Part One of That Thousand-Mile Journey... (DM Donna) Monday June 1st, 2009 1:08:32 AM
K'Nara takes a sack from the weapon mage, nodding as she thanks him for his time and trouble. As the requested items are brought forth and delivered by the lovely Mystery, the leader of the Emerald Dragons nods to the copy of the map that they have also been provided.
"What do you think, Ingrge..?" she asks. "We can't get directly to where the map guesses Deg Shanut happens to be...but that distinctive pile of rocks to the southwest of it looks like a good place to center our group teleport, don't you think..?"
On the map, the "pile of rocks" that K'Nara is referring to is a huge stone formation that looks a lot like a snarling orc head.
"There's a road that leads kinda north from there, from the looks of things..." the human blade singer points out, "...as good a place as any to start, yes..?"
Ingrge: AC 32, HP: 123/123, SR 18, Arcane Sight, See Invisibility, Spectral hand Monday June 1st, 2009 5:30:57 PM
Yup that works for me. After that we may need to rely on Argam to locate a possible entry. I am not much for dealing with rocks, unless I am destroying them.
DM Donna Tuesday June 2nd, 2009 1:21:29 AM OOC: There ARE more players to this game than myself and Ingrge's player, right...?
Away We Go..!
The Heal scrolls are given into Argam's keeping (OOC: write that down on your CS, Argam!), and Mystery has three specially-crafted bags made of padded material--there is a red bag, a blue bag and a yellow bag.
"Here...these bags contain five bottles each of Displacement, Remove Curse, and Remove Disease potions." the pretty potions vendor says as she hands the bags over to Ingrge. "Uh...respectively, of course...oh, and they have been--as requested--crafted by a potion brewmaster. Good luck on your journey, Emerald Dragons!"
DM OOC: "Potion brewmaster" means that the above potions have been crafted by a 12th-level spellcaster, so be sure to make note of that on your CS, Ingrge.
K'Nara takes the magic teleportation ring and puts it on.
"Anything else you people want or need?" the redheaded warrior says as she glances around at her fellow Dragons. She removes the ring and hands it to Ingrge so that he can don the ring next.
"Speak now or forever hold your peace..."
LianAC 41, hps 134 Tuesday June 2nd, 2009 7:01:45 AM
"Beyond the loads of potions, the luck and blessing of these people, what more do we need?" He grins
Argam Tuesday June 2nd, 2009 11:19:07 PM
Argam takes the ring and looks questioningly at Ingrge. He puts it on.
"Oh pass it. I gets it. I gets it!"

How many healing scrolls of what level?
Donna, you're just in time to send out a scathing posting reminder...now that I've posted.
Gunther Wednesday June 3rd, 2009 1:02:45 AM
The warrior makes positive that he gets two Enlarge Person potions like he asked for previously, and he also asks for a couple of vials of alchemical silver.
As the rings are passed around, Gunther gives K'nara a quick kiss and makes sure that Delilah is ready for the teleport before he puts the ring on his hand and then passes it to Lian.
OOC: Man it's been a long time. I can't remember how we handled getting Delilah to teleport with us.
DM Donna Wednesday June 3rd, 2009 1:07:03 AM OOC: Gunther may add the potions described in his latest post to his CS; and there are FIVE scrolls of Heal, scribed by a 12th-level caster as per Ingrge's request (posted on May 31st.) Delilah, I thought, has a special collar that had a Hand of Glory attached to it, right..?
Watch That First Step...
Mystery the potions 'n' notions lady makes sure that the Emeralds have the scrolls and potions requested and then steps back, looking with great interest as the last of the group dons the ring and hands the jewelry back to K'Nara.
"Off we go, then!" announces the chestnut-maned fighter, and she puts the Teleportation Ring on her finger.
POOF!
A split-second of mind-numbing vertigo and the entire party finds themselves in an area that has the tough and sprawling landscape typical of the area of the Wold known as the Scab. As the brief but intense magic effect of instantaneous travel clears from the minds of the Emerald Dragons, the party immediately notes that they are standing in the shadow of a large hunk of rock that stands a good twenty feet or so tall...and that the rock looks very much like a vaguely-misshapen but definitely snarling orc's head.
There is a wide dirt road (perhaps thirty feet wide) that--according to the position of the sun--runs in a southwest/northeast direction. The sun hangs low in the sky...there is perhaps three or four hours of daylight left.
"Everyone got all their fingers and toes..?" asks K'Nara, shaking off the last of the light-headedness from the teleportation and removing the ring from her finger. "I do believe we're supposed to try followiing this road northeast in order to try to find an entrance into the Twisted Run we are to investigate..."
LianAC 41, hps 134 Wednesday June 3rd, 2009 3:32:30 PM
Lian shakes out the cobwebs and looks around. "Wow, nice place. Could use a broom though. Hey, do you suppose the weather will remain nice?" He looks at the nasty clouds over head.
Gunther Thursday June 4th, 2009 12:50:25 AM
The warrior stores away his potions and then heads out. It takes all his will power to keep his breakfast still in his stomach. No matter how many times he teleported, he never could get used to the feeling. Leaning perhaps a little too much on his dire lioness, Gunther shakes his head and gets his bearings. Spotting the rock formation he grins. "Hey K'nara...dat vould look really nice back at de Castle! Ven ver'e done here, do you tink Ingrge could teleport it back vith us?"
OOC: Nope on the Hand of Glory, but I could get one. I think maybe last time Ingrge just cast Teleportation on her.
DM Donna Thursday June 4th, 2009 2:34:24 AM DM OOC: The teleportation issue is one that I should have paid attention to, but this is my boof, so Delilah gets a "free ride" this time. This will be an issue on the ED's return trip, however.
Country Roads Take Me...Somewhere...
Since there are no objections and no other suggestions, the Emerald Dragons begin to follow the road northeast.
"Gods, I wish Olana or Falin or Milo were here," K'Nara says aloud with a bit of a reminiscent sigh, "I really miss being able to send them scouting a bit ahead of us...walking this way, any hungry old giant or dragon can just come right up to us and have us for appetizers or something..."
LianAC 41, hps 134 Thursday June 4th, 2009 4:49:36 AM

Ingrge: AC 32, HP: 123/123, SR 18, Arcane Sight, See Invisibility, Spectral hand Thursday June 4th, 2009 7:07:16 AM
Ingrge watches with amusement as Arham fumbles with the ring for a moment and then redies himself for the moment of truth. He is still taking in a deep breath when they seem to have arrived at their location all in one piece ans alive. Thinking to himself, he again wonders how as a mage he can absolutely hate and not altogether trust teleporting and wonders if he will ever get over his fear.
Ok K'nara let's be off.
Argam Thursday June 4th, 2009 1:35:44 PM
LIterally checking his fingers and toes, he then looks up with a grin.
"That was awesome!"
He grins around looking for someone to fist bump, but then realizes he's being a newb so he calms himself and looks chagrined.
"NE is is then."
He pauses, then points to each in turn: "Blade, Weapon Mage, Monk, Fighter. Who has point? I assume you're all going to get in a square formation around poor li'l me?
"Forge and stone, I'm gonna have my hands full healing you guys!"
DM Donna Thursday June 4th, 2009 10:29:51 PM
...Suddenly...!
K'Nara is in the midst of retorting to Lian's rather silly "spider sense" comment when everyone in the area is interrupted by the sound of another "poof!"...and the appearance of a very familiar-looking, red-headed, bow-toting elf. The jaw of the Emerald Dragons' leader drops open in utter shock.
"Falin..???" she gasps, unable to believe her eyes.
Gunther Thursday June 4th, 2009 11:15:44 PM
At K'nara's call, the warrior breaks out into his goofiest grin. He sprints toward Falin and give him one of his patented bone crushing hugs. "You sly dog...you're finally back!! Vat have you been up to?!!"

Falin Friday June 5th, 2009 5:11:39 PM
Never having enjoyed teleports, Falin looses his footing as he appears and drops to the ground. He stands and dusts himself off just time time to receive the bone crushing hug from his friend Gunter. "I have missed you too." Is all he is able to wheeze out before Gunter releases him.
Falin stretches out his back and arms a bit from the crushing blow he received and then stands looking at the group with a smile on his face. Even though it has only been a few months he looks older. His skin looks paler than you remember and the deep red of his hair looks like it is washing out. He looks thinner and he has a slight darkness under his eyes.
He makes his way over to the group as he meets outreached hands and says, "It is great to see you all again. It feel like ages have past since I was last in your company." Falin eyes the new addition to the group.
He stands back again for a moment and closes his eyes as he takes in a deep breath and then slowly exhales. He open his eyes back up. "It is good to be in open spaces again. I had finished with my mission and had finally made my way back. Sturtavent was informed of my return and had me teleported to Orc's Head Point so that I could catch uo with you."
Falin asks no one in particular, "So, what is it we are doing here?"
He then walks over to the new addition (Argam) and extends his hand. "My name is Falin Darkshine. Nice to meet you."
Ingrge: AC 32, HP: 123/123, SR 18, Arcane Sight, See Invisibility, Spectral hand Friday June 5th, 2009 8:40:28 PM
Falin!! Good to see you. What's going on you ask?
Well, we seem to be on a jaunt to stop an invasion. Which is normal for us I guess, except this will be an invasion of super lycanthropes. Which is scary enough, but apparently if bitten the victem changes within minutes of being bitten. However, we really don't know where they are really located. Which is about normal also, however they seem to have completely conquered a dwarven clan without anyone noticing it and sent scouts into Plateau City.
With a grin, he looks around the others. Have I missed anything?
Falin 2nd Post Friday June 5th, 2009 8:50:09 PM
Falin shudders for a moment remembering his time as a lycanthrope. He absentmindedly rubs his right shoulder. The same shoulder he was bitten on and received the dreaded disease.
"I spent a long time depressed about the power I lost. I can still remember the feeling of strength I possessed in that form. I can still feel the satisfaction I got from literally tearing my enemies limb from limb." His eyes widen a bit as he gets excited talking about it. Saliva begins to run down from the side of his mouth.
He closes his eyes for a second and brings his breathing back down. He wipes his mouth with the back od his hand. He opens his eyes and you are looking at Falin again. "It was a hard monkey to get off my back. I would literally listen for reports of lycanthropes because the thought actually crossed my mind to get infected again." He looks around at the group, "If it had not been for you all I would have folded to my addiction."
He looks at Ingrge with a smile, "If I start to get weird I expect you to put me in my place by whatever means necessary."
DM OOC: edited for spelling.

A Welcome Re-Addition
Argam's investigation of the large and disturbingly accurate rock formation of a snarling orc's head reveals that it is a completely natural formation--or a very cleverly-applied use of some rock-shaping magic. However either of those events may have occurred, it happened eons ago.
"Falin!!!" K'Nara's voice and expression are surprised and yet overjoyed at the same time. She lifted the Elven Sharpshooter off his feet and swung him about in a small arc before setting him once more on his feet, laughing with delight.
"Falin, you don't know how glad I am that you're here again!" the leader of the Emerald Dragons tells him emphatically. "I only wish it were under better circumstances!" She releases her friend and steps back to allow Argam to introduce himself to Falin before adding to Ingrge's update:
"These lycanthropes seem to have picked a kind of...super-wolverine form for their transformation...and they may already have infected an entire clan of dwarves to their disease. We're hoping to find some way into their stronghold--once we find it. We could use your sharp eyes to help us, Falin."
Gunther and Delilah d20+19=21 ; Sunday June 7th, 2009 11:43:38 PM
Pleased that their old companion has returned, Gunther gets back to the business at hand. Using his headband, he speaks with his lioness. "Delilah, do you think you could find those terrible smelling creatures? We need to find where they are girl." He urges the lioness to try and track the creatures by smell (Handle Animal=21), not knowing whether she will once more have a strange reaction to the scent.
DM Donna Monday June 8th, 2009 1:54:41 AM
Delilah obviously understands exactly what Gunther is asking of her...she growls a rumbly complaint and sniffs around the immediate area.
Please have the lioness make a Tracking (or is it Scent for animals..?) check.

DM Donna Monday June 8th, 2009 10:43:09 PM
Where To..?
"If Delilah here doesn't find anything," K'Nara answers Falin's logical question, "Then we'll be following the road northeast."
Please roll that check for Delilah.

Hunting High and Low
Delilah does her best, but she finds no recent traces of anything similar to the creatures that attacked in the city.
"We're hitting the road, then..." K'Nara says. The party sets out on foot (as none of their usual mounts were teleported with them,) following the fairly wide road northeast. The Emerald Dragons travel deeper into the area of the Wold called the Scab, and as they do so, the spellcasters in the group gradually become more and more aware of the buildup of a distinct feeling of oppression--as though something invisible were being pressed down upon them from above...and yet there is nothing to be seen or even physically felt. After everyone pitches in to set up the party's camp, the simple dinner of rations and hot brewed herbal tea, and blankets are laid out as the resting places for the ED's, the various members of the group stand their watches.

Who Watches the Watchers..?
The watches set by the Emerald Dragons unearth nothing more threatening than crickets and the occasional call of a night bird or three. By the time dawn breaks the following day, K'Nara is halfway through her usual blade singer training routine. Argam and Falin wake to see the chestnut-maned human dance and swirl her oversize sword with deadly grace. (This assumes that Falin fell asleep at all, of course! ;D)
After breaking their fast and taking care of any other last minute needs, the party sets off along the road. K'Nara tells everyone to keep their eyes peeled as they follow the winding road ever deeper into the Scab. It is nearly mid-day when the travelers finally see something other than the local flora and fauna:
A tall stone wall rises from the earth here. Thick tarps spread gently down from a central post, forming a barrier between the sky and the outpost beneath. Several chimneys rise from the structure. A pair of south-facing iron doors stands closed, and no activity can be seen in the building nor on the muddy path that leads up to the western wall.
The outpost is a circular structure, a good one-hundred-thirty (or so) feet around. The stone making up the twenty-foot-tall outer wall looks quite solid and gives the impression of having been standing there forever. The central peak of the roof looks to be about thirty or so feet tall. The building in the middle of an open area that is about a thousand or so feet around. The plain is bordered by the forest that is to the south and east, and the foothills of the Scab to the north and west.
The party is still within the shelter of the thinning forest, but will have to emerge out into the open in order to approach and investigate the structure that, in all likelihood, is Deg Shanut.
Falin d20+22=24 ; Thursday June 11th, 2009 6:24:36 AM

There is no niche or cover for Lian to duck into--at what point does he turn visible again..?
LianAC 41, hps 134 Monday June 15th, 2009 5:24:24 AM
OOC: I'm under the impression the ring is active for a time equal to the duration of the spell. 7 rounds or so. SO Lian would not CHOOSE to be visible at any point but he will time it so that each time it deactivates, he is against the wall and takes a standard to activate it again.
DM Donna Monday June 15th, 2009 10:37:20 AM
Lian's Recon (Part 2)
The invisible monk manages a complete circuit around the 130' diameter structure, his keen eyes noting that the stonework is solid and the only visible doors into/out of the place are the wide, cast-iron double doors in the western side of the outpost. He manages to make it to a point just outside the only doors when he gets the overwhelming feeling that his ring's duration of inviisibility is about to give out.
The doors are set into the stone wall with a bit of a door frame around them, but the door frame doesn't really stick out from the wall a whole lot...becoming visible here would mean that Lian would definitiely be visible from the dirt road and even from the cover of the forest fringe where his friends are currently located. There are no other niches nor anything near the wall that could even remotely provide cover for Lian.
Lian will become visible right in front of the doors to the outpost unless he chooses to move elsewhere.

Oh, Look--It's the Welcome Wagon!
Gunther, Ingrge and Argam (by virtue of not rolling at all) are too distracted by other things to see what the rest of the Emerald Dragons see: two figures streaking from the cover of the forest towards the doors of the outpost...and Lian! Gunther, however, hears Delilah's VERY agitated voice, thanks to the magic of their wreaths:

To Battle..!
K'Nara's lips compress as she fumbles for her bow.
"Dead!" she says tersely, figuring that if the group can get to the bottom of this mess, they can plead the case for resurrecting victims later--the diminished capacity of the Emerald Dragons at present called for minimizing the chances for fallen foes to immediately come back and attack the group after merely being injured.
DM OOC: I need to know what kind of arrows Falin is firing at the two blurry and very quick figures streaking towards Lian. I am ruling that--right at this momen--the pair of unknowns are 300 feet away from the EDs in the trees and about the same distance away from Lian.
Both Gunther and Delilah give chase to the newly-emerged foes, shaving their Move distance off the 300' or so that is between the EDs and the running enemy.
Ingrge's spell, however, has the most spectacular results: the two running figures suddenly fly up into the air--anyone watching could swear that they resemble a pair of unfortunates who have run off the edge of a cliff and were plummeting to their nasty demise...only these two are falling up.
DM OOC: Kent, kindly email me as to your opinion about how a Reverse Gravity spell is going to effect a couple of were-wolverines who are not going to encounter any sort of ceiling or overhead obstacle whatsoever. I suspect that these two aren't going to survive the encounter, but I would like your opinion on that, anyhow. Thanks!

The two foes floating in the air plunge towards the ground, their sudden descent making it impossible for them to avoid the massive damage of Ingrge's very-well-timed Cone of Cold spell. DM OOC: they both missed their Reflex saves. They also both hit the ground with a bone-crunching sort of "splat".
And, miraculously, Foe #1 is still moving, attempting to lurch to his feet.
By this time, Lian, Gunther and Delilah are all within about fifty feet or so of the remaining foe, who is now on the ground.
"Wow..." K'Nara says, squinting at the single foe left standing (well, almost standing--just give him another round...) "...looks like this one ate his Woldies cereal this morning..."

Delilah, by virtue of reaching the only moving foe left (after Ingrge's well-applied spells), does, indeed, manage to rip the were-wolverine to pieces. Soon the lycanthrope is scattered about the landscape, returning to its dwarven form as the last spark of life leaves its body. The other, unmoving form is that of another dwarf, dressed in clothing that blends into the backdrop of the forest.
The sun is shining on this otherwise rather gruesome scene of battle. The only movement comes from whatever the Emerald Dragons provide, and the stirring of the grass as a gentle breeze ruffles the blades...

Lian casts his spell over the mangled corpse that Delilah left behind. Falin's eyes and ears remain alert but nothing and nobody else is seen (so far.) The ex-dwarf's remains stir and its one good eye pops open, rolling in a macabre fashion before it settles and focuses on the monk asking the questions:
Are you aware you were infected with lycanthropy through the of Black Tooth Venom? "In-fect-ed...? I've never been sick a day in my life...my late life..."
Was the Black Tooth Venom forced upon you? "I...I used to be...without power...I woke up one day...with the power..."

Who's In First...?
K'Nara glances at her compatriots and then nods to Falin.
"Go on up, then, and use your ring to let us know what you're going to do when you get there."
This is the description of the outpost as the group sees it from the outside looking in (or, at least, trying to look in):
Falin will be able to see that the tarps being used as overhead cover are very thick and sturdy, and they are constructed to leave gaps of about three inches or so between the chimneys and the cloth.

Is there smoke coming from the chimney? Is it warm to the touch? Can Falin make anything out from between the tarp and the chimney?
Falin reports back on anything he sees.

DM Donna Tuesday July 7th, 2009 2:56:26 AM DM OOC: The group's mission--given to them by the High Lord Mayor of Plateau City, Sturtavent himself--is to go to Deg Shanut, a dwarven outpost that is feared to have been attacked or even wiped out by an army of lycanthropes who favor a humanoid wolverine form. Their brand of lycanthropy happens to be very nasty, as it effects the victim in a matter of minutes as opposed to a matter of days or weeks. There is some rogue sort of druid that is rumored to have something to do with the spread of this evil disease, so the EDs also need to confirm whether or not the rumored druid is involved.
The Eagle Has Landed
Falin's sharp eyes take in his surroundings--the tarps that serve as the roof of this outpost are very sturdy and in excellent repair. There are a total of five different smokestacks that poke up in various places through the canvas. None of the chimneys have smoke issuing from them. None of them are warm. Falin gets glimpses of walls, alleyways, and various areas that appear common to outposts...but the limited space of the gaps makes it nigh-impossible to see much detail. However, in his careful scouting, Falin can be sure of at least one thing: he has discerned neither movement nor noise from beneath the canvas roof.
"We'll wait until Falin tells us what he sees before deciding to send you up, Gunther." K'Nara says to him with a faint smile.

This roof covering looks like it is overlapped quite a bit and too thick to just cut through. I really don't have anything in my bag of wonders to do anything. I feel pretty worthless, but I do have to admit the view from up here is spectacular."
Falin takes a look around just in case anything is running up on the group again.

Falin, in taking another look around, happens upon something about the roof on the eastern side of the outpost: one of the tarp panels has been sliced along the seam, so that it is possible for a being about the size of a human to go through the roof into the area below.

Lian is anxious to bust some lycan head.
The Emerald Dragons take up their stated positions--
Lian goes around to the western gate (DM OOC: I must apologize--the western gate was there on the map and I even made a reference to it, but I had completely forgotten that it was there, instead concentrating on the southern entry doors...however, neither of the entrances into the outpost are magic at all, so Lian didn't detect that anywhere. Both of the gates were locked, so Lian will be keeping his eye on a closed, locked set of doors that are also made of iron but sized to allow vehicles like wagons and such in and out of the place.)--the monk readies himself for whatever may come bursting through.
Gunther squeezes himself through the opening, silently cursing the tight fit that the more slender Falin effortlessly popped through. He lands (rather heavily) on the rooftop of a two-story building (#6 on the map)--the two adventurers are flanking the chimney of the building.
After Ingrge casts his spell and gets the door open, Delilah immediately bounds into the outpost, advancing to the corner of a narrow, single-story building (#5 on the map). She pauses to scent the fetid air of the place as K'Nara, Ingrge and (behind them) Argam fill the now-open southern doorway.
So far, Lian's western gate remains closed.
WITHIN THE OUTPOST: The area behind the exterior walls of Deg Shanut is dark and silent What little light exists filters in from the gaps in the tarps covering the outpost and the opened gate of the place. There are lamposts that dot the outpost, but they stand dark. Two large, fenced yards can be seen through the murky-appearing air (they flank the western gate), as can a low-lying central stone structure that connects to a building on the outer wall. A two-story wooden building that looks like an inn hugs the wall near the southern gate. Nothing moves in the area, and the air--while noticeably warmer than outside--reeks with the stench of death and rot.
Everyone in the party must make Spot and Listen rolls, please.

K'Nara (not Spotting nor Hearing anything unusual) manages to not gag at the stench that greets her, Ingrge and Argam. Her short laugh at Lian's comment comes out more like a cough.
"If anyone can smell us above and beyond the carnage, Lian," she replies via her own Dragon communication device, "I'll shake their hand...or equivalent limb."
Lian (as he is still behind a closed and locked set of doors) doesn't discern anything unusual from where he's located.
Anyone located within the outpost who has a Spot and/or Listen result of 25 or more, Highlight to display spoiler: { For a split-second, you get the feeling that there is something (or someone?) on or around the roof of the circular structure in the very middle of Deg Shanut (Building #4)...but staring at the structure doesn't seem to reveal anything out of the ordinary.}
"Even from up here," Falin's voice comes over the comm channel, "I can see there's been a battle waged--nasty one, too, to judge by the lovely scent left behind."
Gunther, from his vantage point, can see that the west gate out of the outpost is flanked by a pair of fenced-in yards. The yard north of the gate looks to be a corral with a stable (Area #1), while the yard south of the gate seems to have a wagon or two in it (Area #2). Being up on top of the two-story building also allows the big cat trainer to see that Building 4 is attached to Building 3 via an enclosed passageway of some kind.
Ingrge, upon advancing to the corner of the two-story building, is able to peek around the corner of it and see a sign hanging on a perpendicular arm on the wall--the hanging sign depicting a frothy, horned mug marks thais as an inn. The front door of the place (located right beneath the sign) is busted in and nothing appears to be moving inside. Delilah (to the left of the weapon mage) continues to scent the air, watchful but not unduly agitated by anything (yet).
An eerie silence continues to blanket the interior of the dwarven outpost.

Lian gets to casting Bull's Strength on himself and Gunther.
Gunther--as he is on top of the roof of a two-story building, will have to make two Climb checks versus DC10 to get down off the roof safely. Delilah's answer to Gunther: "I smell potential prey--a horse wounded and near death...it should make a great meal..."

"Laughter?" echoes K'Nara, frowning. "Not a good sign in the middle of a deserted outpost. However, it's up to you: do you want to transform into a gaseous cloud and see about it yourself...or come back here and hope that Ingrge has found a way for all of us to get into that building together..?"

DM Donna Tuesday August 11th, 2009 12:40:14 AM DM OOC to Lian's player: K'Nara can't directly order Lian to do or not do something, because she is being NPC'ed until such time as the current DM is no longer the DM for the game. Lian is going to have to decide how he is going to proceed from this point. As an NPC, K'Nara has the ability to point out the obvious: should Lian go into Building #3 (or any other place) in Gaseous form, he won't be able to communicate using his ring until he's back in his normal corporeal self. Now all the monk needs to do is pick his course of action.
More Exploring

Lian floats there, as gas, looking at the inhabitants of the building. What is happening within?
DM Donna Thursday August 13th, 2009 4:33:41 PM DM OOC: my apologies, players, Real Life hung me up a bit. On with the game..!
The gas cloud that is Lian swirls across the exterior of Building 3, seeking out any opening that will allow him inside. As he is naught but mist, he easily infiltrates the half-inch gap in one of the windows, As he coelesces into a central mass of mist, Lian is able to notice the following: Highlight to display spoiler: {The dimly-lit interior of the fifty-square-foot building has many rows of stacked containers--crates, boxes and pallets of goods. Lian finds himself in an upper loft-like area that runs along the south wall of the building. The loft is about twenty feet wide...and the noises of people talking and even laughing come from the area that makes up the ground floor of the building.}
Ingrge's spell reveals there are four rectangular windows on the second level of Building 3...one of which appears to have a gap big enough to admit the gas cloud that is Lian, though it isn't big enough to allow the Arcane Eye to squeeze through. However, the air recon also reveals that there is a large entry door on the ground floor of Building 3, in its southwest corner, connecting the Building to Area #1--the Stable yard.
Delilah remains in place and Gunther neither sees nor hears anything out of the ordinary.

Lian will drift below to see what is to be seen.

Ingrge looks around at the others, starts walking toward Bldg 3's door and asks. Well are we just going to sit here and waste my scrolls or are we going to get inside and do what we came here to do?
DM Donna d20=5 ; Monday August 17th, 2009 10:56:41 PM
Lian--Highlight to display spoiler: {your Gaseous Form spills down the wall, unnoticed by the beings making the guttural grunts and laughter as they root through various boxes, cases and crates that were very likely at some point in time once stacked as neatly and orderly as the ones in the loft. Moving amongst the wreckage of busted containers and the goods that used to be in them are about a dozen or so goblinoids, each of them wearing what appears to be studded leather armor and chattering to each other as they poke through the contents of the building (but Lian doesn't speak their language, so he can't tell what they're saying).}
"C'mon, guys," K'Nara tells the others as she follows Ingrge's suggested lead, "Everyone follow the elf." She grins at the weapon mage with a wink of her hazel eye.
LianAC 41, hps 134 d20+11=26 ; d20+27=30 ; Tuesday August 18th, 2009 1:41:20 PM
He observes all of the goblinoids for several minutes, finding all the spellcasters, if any.
Then the monk drifts to just behind some containers large enough to hide his natural form nearest the dozen gobs, dismisses the gaseous form (if he can) and activates his ring of invisibility.
(Spot 26, Move Silently 30)
DM Donna Tuesday August 18th, 2009 11:26:00 PM DM OOC: ooooo...I'll be back after I find out if Lian can dismiss his Gaseous Form or not...

DM Donna Wednesday August 19th, 2009 3:17:13 PM DM OOC: Lian cannot dismiss his Gaseous Form; he'll be a bunch of mist for a total of twelve minutes. I'm ruling that about three minutes have gone by so far.
LianAC 41, hps 134 Thursday August 20th, 2009 4:18:34 AM
He drifts out slowly toward the goblins from between the crates, like smoke.
DM Donna Thursday August 20th, 2009 9:05:06 PM DM OOC: K'Nara cannot actively direct the group, as she is being NPC'ed. Ingrge will have to post which way the group will be attempting to enter Building #3. The choices are:
1. Entering Building #4 and taking the northern door that appears to lead into the enclosed passageway between Buildings #3 and #4. 2. Entering Area #1 and going through the only visible door on Building #3's exterior. 3. Some other (as yet undescribed) method of entry.
LianAC 41, hps 134 Friday August 21st, 2009 4:27:53 AM
Lian would guide the group in, but is waiting for the mist to dismiss itself. He still lingers near the floor until he is about to reappear, when he will move behind the boxes.
Ingrge: AC 32, HP: 123/123, SR 18, Arcane Sight, See Invisibility, Friday August 21st, 2009 6:06:25 AM
Ingrge leads the way to building 4s door, wondering where Lian could be and how they can communicate with his whilw he is gassy.
Ok Guys and Gals shall we do this the dirty way or the more dangerous way?
DM Donna d20=9 ; Friday August 21st, 2009 8:43:52 PM
Choices, Choices...
"Dirty or dangerous..?" Falin quips with a half-smile. "Since when has that been an 'either/or' option for us..?" The sharpshooter's brand of humor elicits a roll of the eyes from K'Nara and a bemused blink from Argam.
"We're at the door, Ingrge," K'Nara says, "What's the difference between 'dirty' and 'dangerous'..?"
WITHIN BUILDING #3...Lian Highlight to display spoiler: { As he continues to wait out his time as a cloud of gas, Lian remains unnoticed by the beefy goblinoids ransacking the contents of the place. One of them--perhaps the biggest of the lot--is grumbling and grunting at the others as he (at least, Lian's pretty sure it's a "he") points to different places to pilfer. Another of the goblins stops what he (again, the gender is a guess on the monk's part) is doing and suddenly crosses his arms over his chest, his tone and pose petulant as he addresses the boss goblinoid. The Boss scowls at this show of mutiny, barking at the Mutineer and shaking a threatening fist at him.}
LianAC 41, hps 134 Monday August 24th, 2009 4:17:54 AM
DM Highlight to display spoiler: {The monk floats out toward the goblinoids and begins circling starting at their feet, circles the group, in a corkscrew type manner, feet to heads and back to the floor. (He does this when he is relatively sure he has about a minute before transforming) When he has their attention, be slowly moves towards the front of the building.}
Ingrge: AC 32, HP: 123/123, SR 18, Arcane Sight, See Invisibility, Monday August 24th, 2009 7:24:01 AM
Dangerous is we just pound it open. Dirty is I send a delayed blast fireball under that door crack send it to the middle of the room and set it off and then we walk in. I suppose if you want both we could enter before set it off, though I would prefer not......
DM Donna d20=7 ; Monday August 24th, 2009 9:57:18 AM
Getting It Just Right
Lian: Once the misty monk is on the ground floor, he notes that there are two obvious doors that lead out of the vast warehouse space: a door in the middle of the south wall of the building, and larger, wider door in the southwest corner (it's on the west wall itself, actually.) Which one of these will Lian consider "the front"?
"I prefer the direct approach myself," K'Nara states her opinion, "If only because we still haven't heard back from Lian and so we don't know where he might be when that delayed fireball would go off."
LianAC 41, hps 134 Tuesday August 25th, 2009 2:44:33 AM
Having not solidified and hearing nothing from the group, Lian moves outside and finds the group. He circles the Emeralds and guides them to the side which the goblinoids are. They should know he is the mist.

I too have been around the Wold since 1998. I think there are about 6-8 of us left. At one point, until we got on Google docs, I kept the PC of all of the Wolds PC sheets on my computer and kept it updated every 6 months or so and filed al dead, inactive and left the Wold PCs as well. I may have a copy of some of that on one of my externals somewhere, butI have had several crashes and new computerssince then.
