The Ice Palace

DM Kathy

Yanosh perks up considerably at the sight of the rocky passage. His Dwarven instincts tell him that the narrow canyon and the cave entrance are both natural.

Olaf checks for traps, but finds nothing. Aiden, too, looks around, but sees nothing untoward.

Rendal asks your captive if he has been her before. "Yes!" the orc replies. "This is where Ragnhild lives! Ha! Now she'll turn you into rabbits!" When pressed, however, he admits that he hasn't actually been inside. He and most of the other warriors would wait out in the canyon while JKul, their leader, visited Ragnhild.

You enter the cave, and find yourselvs in a wide, level tunnel that leads deeper into the mountain. Yanosh can tell immediately that although the basic shape of the tunnel is natural, it has been widened and smoothed by artificial means.

It is surprisingly warm in the tunnel, though whether from magic or some sort of hot spring is unclear.

The tunnel leads in but one direction, so you begin to move straight ahead.

"The cave is natural though widened." Yanosh softly states. Turning to the others before moving onward.
Yanosh whispers quietly "One must be extra quiet in a cave. Sound travels farther and stronger then you would think. Walk softly and be wary. And dont speak unless needed. Where is Bohdi and his spells now?" Yanosh refers to the message spell used at the valley the other Orcs are at.

As silently as possible Yanosh drews his War Axe and creeps deeper into the Dark cave just ahead of the light used by the Humans.

Lacking Yanosh's ability to see in the dark, Olaf asks the others for some illumination: "yers got anything to see in this tunnel with? Assuming Aiden, Heyoka, or Rendal produce a reasonable means of Illumination, Olaf will skulk ahead of the group but behind Yanosh, also looking out for traps, and trying to stay hidden.

As you step into the tunnel, Yanosh offers some advice about cave exploration in general.

An immediate problem is a light source for the non-dwarves (and non-orcs) in the party. Aiden produces a torch and lights it, but is left with the problem of how to carry it. He finally hits on the solution of giving it to your orc prisoner, who can hold it in his bound hands. He doesn't look too happy to be the light source.

Heyoka and Fisher stealth forward, at home even in this underground environment. The passage is rather a tight fit for the bear, but he manages.

Olaf brings up the rear.

As you move, you look and listen about you. The cave is natural rock, glazed over with a thin sheen of ice that sparkles in the light of your torch. Despite the ice, however, it is warmer in here than it was outside. Most peculiar. And there is an odd smell, pungent and musty at the same time, that none of you can place.

You walk down the tunnel for about a minute before you come to the first intersection. There prove to be several branching tunnels, in a pattern that could well cause confusion in the unprepared.

You have trackers in your group, however, and Aiden and Fisher can unerringly follow the path the Tundra Walkers took--probably mere hours ago. After another thirty minutes or so, Yanosh can tell from subtle changes in the airflow that you are coming to a very large chamber.

Yanosh
Friday January 11th, 2008 1:45:25 PM

Yanosh slows down as he nears the chamber and waits for everyone to get back together. Yanosh knows as soon as their light gets close everyone in the chamber will know they are there. His War Axe slips silently into his hand as he tightly grips his shield and waits for the others.

The torch passes from your prisoner to Rendal, and you all concentrate on moving as quietly as you can. But, as Yanosh realizes, your light will give you away regardless of how quietly you move.

Moving cautiously, you creep forward and enter the large chamber. An incredible sight meets your eyes.

The chamber is vast, perhaps 50 feet on a side, with a ceiling that soars up beyond the reach of your torch--or your darkvision. The ceiling and walls are coated with a fine sheen of ice, which dances with blue-white sparkles of light. And there is light here, aside from your torch, but you cannot tell where it comes from or how it is sustained. Similarly, you are not sure how the air remains so warm with ice all around.

In the center of the room is a rough dais, which looks grown from the natrual rock floor. Atop the dais is a throne, sparkling with gems and precious metal. Seated in the throne is an incredibly beautiful woman. Her skin is so fair as to appear luminous, and her eyes are the color of sapphires. Her hair is silvery white, but her face is unlined, making it difficult to determine her age.

Near the foot of the dais are gathered a half-dozen orc warriors. From their gear, you recognize them as Tundra Walkers.

Blending discreetly into the background are a pair of humans, one man and one woman. Both are red-haired and beautiful, and enough alike that they could be twins. They are dressed as servants, and their eyes have a glazed expression.

The woman atop the throne smiles. "Ah. More visitors to ease my weary hours. How nice. Do come in."

Lovely as can be,

Will you listen to my harmony,

I will not bear,
Us to be apart,
my darling dear,
See as I sing this harmony,
You can see we are quite in harmony,
with you and your team,
we come to beam,

Olaf fingers the dull metal coin about his neck, nervously. He takes a long moment to take in the features and mannerisms of the man in the back of the room.

In a brief whisper to Aiden [ bluff 8 to send a "secret message"] Olaf mentions, "If we be needin' any confusion, just let me know... Otherwise, I'll be on yer backs." He then readies an action to cast Protection from Evil on Aiden if the woman on the throne starts casting a spell.

A slight nod was his only reply towards Olaf. This was definitely a strange sight, one that he actually wasn't quite sure how to react.

Taking a step forward, "we seek the Shield of Domi..." he said in a strong voice "To return it to the village of Ice Peaks..." he continued in his thick, Twin Tusk accented voice. His eyes darted about, making sure that he would minimize the chances for any other surprises.

He was definitely wary as it was obvious that they (especially the female on the throne) were well aware of their coming.

Rendal respond's to the beautiful woman's greeting by breaking into song. He attempts to weave a fascination effect into the lyrics. The female servant seems to succumb, and stares at Rendal with a rapt expression on her face.

The woman on the throne seems to have some kind of natural resistance to magic. [Ragnhild has Spell Resistance. Please make a caster level check to determine whether your song affects her.]

Heyoka is quite certain she has never been here before, nor has she heard of anyplace quite like this. The cavern itself appears--and probably is--a natural phenomenon. But the ice walls, the warmth, the light, the throne, all whisper of magic.

Yanosh prepares for battle, and Olaf prepares to defend his friends from magical attacks.

It is Aiden who responds to the woman's greeting, by stepping forward and stating the group's business there.

"Ah, yes, the Shield," the woman replies. Reaching out, she plucks a small statue from its resting place near the throne. Looking around, you now notice that other items are tastefully displayed throughout the chamber, each on its own unique stand. The woman smiles at the little statue. "An amusing little item, to be sure," she continues. "And procured at no small expense." She nods in the direction of the Tundra Walkers. "Tell me, what are you willing to give me in exchange?"

Yanosh
Tuesday January 15th, 2008 12:16:02 PM

Growling softly Yanosh bites back a reply that could end it all in bloodshed. And awaits Aidens reply.

Olaf
Tuesday January 15th, 2008 5:43:31 PM

Olaf grunts as he thinks about the implications of the Ragnhild's trophy collection. Something inner sense suggests that the cost of the shield in her terms might be more than they're willing to pay. "Exchange, huh," he mutters.

Switching to Orcish, trying to get a comment out of the Tundra walkers, he inquires in a slightly louder tone, "They're all trophies, ain't they? Them redheads, are they trophies, then? Ha! Are you Tundra Walkers trophies as well?" He starts to chortle at the thought.

While seeming relaxed, Olaf maintains his stance near Aiden...readying an action (again) to cast Protection from Evil on Aiden in response to any casting by Ragnhild.

Aiden
Tuesday January 15th, 2008 6:04:48 PM

Aiden continued to look around, quite wary as this woman carried an incredible aura of magick and power. To rush her would be folly...and as his eyes continued to look around, an idea began to form.

"You appear to favor objects of art..." he said brusquely. Shrugging, "they seem pretty for your " as he struggled for a better word, something other than 'cave' or 'lair', "home."

A sly grin appeared, "but there are other forms of art...including those of words." His eyes twinkling further, "many of us are going to travel to lands far from here, and what greater art is there but the words and tale of you spreading through other countries and continents?"

Looking towards Rendal, and giving a small nod as a queue, "and he is very good with words and song.." shrugging, "among the best I've heard...." he added unabashedly.

(OOC: *laugh* I know I'm reaching here...but hell, we have a bard, and several of the group is going to be transplanted into other campaigns....might as well run with it, or at least try to...

What the heck...I'll throw in a hero point if possible...it's not like I can carry them out of the game...*grins*)

Yanosh remains alert, but keeps his silence for now.

Olaf attempts to taunt the Tundra Walkers. "Careful, little man," one of them replies. "If you run with the wolves, you could get hurt."

Atop her throne, the woman smiles at Aiden. "Fair words, to be sure," she says, "but I do not seek fame. Indeed, I value my privacy." She waves a hand to indicate the items in the room. "These are only the more....tangible part of my collection. I am also interested in other items of value." She smiles at her red-haired servants. "Souls, for example. A rare delicacy for a seeker of power such as I."

She gazes around at you. "So. Which of you is willing to trade me your soul for this thing you seek?"

Yanosh
Wednesday January 16th, 2008 3:41:48 PM

Unable to be silent any longer Yanosh strides forward a step.
"None of us will trade you for something that belongs to you not." The Dwarven Cleric glares at the Walkers, "And wolves are easily killed."
And again to the woman on the throne, "This time Witch we end this. No more deals." Yanosh refers to the cave where they met the Ice Witch.

Axe and shield ready Yanosh awaits the end of their trek.

Yanosh's answer is a fairly unequivocal "no", but if the woman atop the throne feels threatened by the axe, she does a good job of hiding it. The Tundra Walkers, however, put their own hands on their weapons and growl menacingly.

Olaf continues to study the servants. The man does not respond to his query. Looking at the pair of them, Olaf senses that there is some intelligence there, but the two seem to be under some sort of compulsion.

"Pull?" says Ragnhild in response to Aiden. "I pull nothing. I take only that which is freely given." She pauses to caress the statue. "Your people set quite a store by this little item. If you were to return it to them, their happiness would be assured. Perhaps even the differences that threaten to divide your tribe could be overcome. You yourselves would be heroes of your people. [OOC: Sorry for the late post; I completely spaced on doing this last night]

Yanosh is still spoiling for a fight, but Olaf and Aiden still have hopes of resolving this peacefully.

Ragnhild smiles at Olaf. It's not an entirely pleasant experience. "I do not care for games of chance," she replies. "Still, you're on the right track."

She turns back to Aiden. "What will you offer?" she says again. "All your happiness, perhaps? Your first-born? Though I don't like children much. A year and a day of your memory? Come, I thought you were heroes! What heroic sacrifice are you prepared to make?"

Mulling it over, and listening to her words, Aiden realizes that, even as this creature is something out of legend, the price she asks must also be something out of myth or legend. Your courage, your love, your memory--something intangible that is nevertheless very valuable to you.

(OOC: crap! I don't think the last message went through)

Aiden started to see what was happening, and turning towards the others, he felt pride. They were willing to face death for a village that none of them hailed from, or even spent more than an evening within.

Turning back to the witch, he spoke loudly, and firmly. "They offer nothing...it was not their quest or village." Firmly, he continued, "it is MY burden and therefore MY price to pay..."

"I shall tie myself to the lands of the Vein, not being able to go to any new or strange lands, but forced to stay. I will...in short...bind myself to the land and its wishes for as long as the statue lies within the possession of those of Ice Peaks and its descendents, and the balance of nature is kept."

(OOC: just as an aside...Aiden has always wanted to LEAVE and explore outside of the Vein, especially since the adventure with the Bloodpack. So this is essentially robbing him of what he has always wanted to do...)

Ragnhild smiles. "Very well," she says to Olaf. "Your luck, and your friend's wanderings. A bargain."

"But--but, Wise One!" the leader of the Tundra Walkers speaks up. "My men and I suffered much to bring that to you--"

"SILENCE!" Ragnhild roars, and her voice echoes off the glittering ice of the chamber. "You and your men will be recompensed for your trouble," she continues. She is no longer shouting, but her voice is no less intimidating. "That was our bargain, and I shall keep it. The Shield is mine, and I will do with it as I will." A tense pause. "Do you question that?"

"Er--no, Wise One," the orc replies. The Tundra Walkers retreat, muttering, to one side of the room.

"Make your pact with your land," Ragnhild says to Aiden. "Return here when it is complete. I will take your friend's luck at that time, and give you the Shield in return."

Yanosh
Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 3:11:17 PM

Growling to himself Yanosh is both proud and dismayed at Aidens sacrifice.
Keeping an Eye on the Tuskers Yanosh prepares to leave with the rest. Never lowering his shield or axe.

Olaf
Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 5:45:38 PM

Olaf has one more question for the witch, now that the deal is almost sealed. "Tell me then, Ragnhild, what about those fair humans over there. They don't seem to be in their right mind---was that the result of a bargain, or did you do that 'gainst their will?" Otherwise, he too prepares to follow Aiden.

Aiden
Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 10:51:10 PM

Aiden nods, apparently his plan was going well, at least at that moment.

True, he did not want to give up exploration. But he was also leaving himself as guardian of the land, and with the condition of peace and the statue being within Ice Peaks...He could serve as protector for what he valued the most.

Looking towards Heyoka, and Yanosh, "I shall need your help in this..." for it was going to require the help of the death god, and nature gods, to fully tie himself to the land, for at least however long this sorceress who battled time, survived.

(OOC: basically trying to set himself up as a balance to her)

DM Kathy
Thursday January 24th, 2008 12:59:20 AM

Ever wary, Yanosh keeps a sharp eye on the Tundra Walkers as your group retreats to the tunnels. The orcs eye him back, bold challenge in their eyes.

Aiden, too, departs the Palace, calling on his companions for their aid.

Olaf lingers to ask after the two servants. Ragnhild turns to glance at the red-haired pair. "Some bargains are better than others," she says with an unsettling smile. "If it makes you feel better, though, they entered it of their own free will. Their service is not indefinite, and they will be restored to their faculties at the end of it." She turns and settles herself on her throne. "Now, perhaps you had best go with your friends. I must pay my orcs their promised price."

You again navigate the maze of tunnels to find the entrance. It was nearing dusk when you arrived, and it is full dark now. Outside, the blizzard still howls.

Do you go out and attempt the ritual now, trusting in the Powers of the Vein to watch over you, or do you camp here until morning when (hopefully) the storm will have blown itself out?

Yanosh
Thursday January 24th, 2008 10:50:24 AM

Not sure how he could help Aiden, Yanosh looks worriedly at his Wunjo. "Friend Aiden, I do not know how I can help you in this. But I will do what ever I can. I am sure with Garguls help we can achieve what it is you want."
Looking out of the cave entrance into the storm Yanosh has a feeling that now may be the time to complete the task Aiden wants.

Aiden
Thursday January 24th, 2008 7:14:40 PM

Nodding towards Yanosh, "aye friend Yanosh, I agree..."

He wasn't facing this new challenge or binding with dread, but with acceptance.

Once they were outside, and away from the witch, Aiden revealed his plan. "I believe that Celsiun, and Gargul would both want to prevent the witch from tampering with the balance any more...by calling upon a bind to the land, I hope to counter whatever evil she brings, and perhaps both for the balance of not only the Mountain, but the Vein as a whole."

Grinning, "it may be because I don't know the gods, but perhaps they will like to hunt in a pack against the witch who plays with souls and people for whims of her enjoyment."

"But before I do, there is one thing left for me to do ..."

And with that, he casts (for the second time ever, willingly) the spell Speak to Animals. *Packsister...I do not know how much you understand of what I am going to do, and there is little time for me to explain. For the safety of the pack and the lands, I am going to make a promise that will very much change me, and leave the two legged pack, possibly forever.*

His heart was in his words as he hated to be separated from his friends, especially his four legged companion, *and where I go, and what I do, I cannot ask of you to join me because I truly do not know what will happen.*

(OOC: Oh yeah...going to aim for the height of the storm on this one.)

Olaf
Thursday January 24th, 2008 9:47:49 PM

"Well there, Aiden, friend, I'm thinkin' there's a little I can do to help ya along. You see, I'm a bit bound ta the land myself. It was a deep blizzard, when I found Celsiun guiding me, and I suppose it always was a binding between me and t' land." He pauses for a moment in recollection, then shakes his head slightly and continues. "So I'm thinkin' to make devotions to the Vein in the peak o' the storm with ya, acting as yer guide, if ya will." His uncertainty, and earnestness, is plain upon his young face.

"I know we ain't know each other long, but we'll see through this, no doubt. Get yerself ready, and we'll begin when you give the say so."

DM Kathy
Friday January 25th, 2008 1:43:06 AM

You talk it over, and agree that the height of the storm is the perfect time. Before proceeding, though, Aiden wants a word with Packsister.

"You are my Pack," she replies. She speaks the language of barks, soft howls, and growls that wolves speak to one another. For now, Aiden can understand her. "And I am your Pack. The Pack will endure." She nuzzles Aiden affectionately.

Preparing yourselves, you step out into the howling blizzard. It is cold beyond belief. Visibility is zero. Even though you are accustomed to harsh conditions, being out here for too long is most unwise. Best to begin as quickly as possible...

Yanosh
Friday January 25th, 2008 11:40:05 AM

Yanosh kneels in prayer to Gargul. Asking him to guide and protct Aiden. To give Aiden what he asks for and to bind him forever to the Vein. This is not in making an undead just tying the spirit of one to the land to keep another in check forever. One must keep check over the Ice Witch.

Aiden
Friday January 25th, 2008 3:34:02 PM

Aiden, knowing the bite of the cold, knew that it was time.

Taking out his axe, he slammed in one head into the ground, and then gripped the other end, as he then genuflected to Baerfel, the mighty mountain of the Ice Peaks.

With head bowed low, he said in a strong voice in the language of orks, his natural (and first language)

"Mighty Baerfel...Celsiun...to you three powers I speak to. I have given my word to tie myself to the land of the Vein so that the artifact of Domi's could be returned to the peaceful people of Ice Peaks. I will serve as guardian of the land, and to balance the sorceress who had the statue stolen and plays mortals against each other. I shall serve you and tie myself as long as the statue is within the possession of Ice Peaks, and there is peace. Should war or evil outbalance what is natural, I shall serve to tip the scales, as is what should be. She abuses your powers and the shelter you provide her to play with the spirits of others.

Domi...hear and help us...your servant Garrett died to help return the statue. Aid us in returning the statue to where it belongs, and to bring vengence upon those who first abused your power.

And mighty Gargul...your servant Yanosh speaks of what we need to do. Somehow I wish to make sure that there is always a being to counter this person who plays with the spirits and desires of mortals...and being human, unless aided, I shall not live long enough to prevent her from doing such atrocities again.

And so I give of myself..."

With that, he cuts his hand to allow his blood to fall to the ground...

And he was ready...for good or ill, for what the gods were going to do. Would they ignore such a presumptuous request from a mortal who had never truly called upon them before? Or would they grant his request, albeit in a strange or unforeseen way, since he had fought for each of them in some manner or another, to maintain the balance of the witch?

(OOC: Aiden had done quests (albeit not for them but for what they represent) for each:
the retrieval of the statue for Domi (and helping her cleric), the killing of the walking dead (favored enemy...helping Gargul out), and maintaining the balance (Jack Frost quest, and going after the shadow spirit that had killed the forest spirit)). *laugh*...why do I see myself being (A) given frostbite, (B) turned into a frog or (C) getting a terminal case of dead?)

DM Kathy
Sunday January 27th, 2008 11:55:29 PM

In the icy teeth of the storm, Aiden calls on the Gods and Powers of the Ice Vein, seeking to bind himself to their will and to the land they serve. Nearby, Yanosh offers up his own prayers in aid of his wunjo.

Reaching the end of his plea, Aiden cuts himself, and his blood flows sluggishly in the extreme cold. Drop by drop drips off his hand, and is whirled away by the raging winds of the blizzard.

Several things begin happening at once. First, the storm ceases to rage. You look around, and find yourselves in a kind of protective bubble. Mere feet away, the blizzard continues to pound with full fury, but within the bubble all is calm and peaceful.

At the same time, Aiden's hand, the one he cut, begins to blacken and shrivel. The fingers twist in on themselves as their essence seems to drain away, and the rest of the blood pours out in a final gush. When Aiden looks down at his hand, he sees that it is twisted, blackened, withered. Useless. He has no feeling in the hand, and cannot make it do anything. The process does not hurt, but the lack of feeling is somewhat unsettling.

He has little time to dwell on it, however, for even as his feeling in his hand vanishes, he begins feeling other sensations. It takes him a moment to come to grips with it, but he realizes that he is feeling the Ice Vein. All of it. As his feet rest on the soil of the vein, he finds he can send his awareness out into the land he now serves, and know what it needs. He can't see everything all at once, but he can shift his attention and focus in on particular areas pretty much at will. He dwells for a moment with a rabbit, riding out the storm in a snug hole, then stalks with a wolf, braving the snows to ease the hunger pinching his belly.

When he turns his attention to the mountain beside him, however, he finds--a void. A space where his senses seem unable to go. He knows there are at least two humans and a group of orcs inside the mountain, but his new senses cannot find them. They are hidden--from the land, from the Powers, and now, from Aiden.

Yanosh continues to pray for Aidens protection from evil influances. Seeing his hand shriveling and blackening concerns the Cleric of Gargul. Praying harder Yanosh asks that he and Aiden are doing what is right for the Vein. Yanosh tightens his grip on his Axe just in case something has gone wronge and yet another Wunjo will need to be destroyed as a frozen undead.

Olaf  d2=2
Monday January 28th, 2008 9:43:56 PM

Olaf stares in shock at the bitter cost Aiden has paid. Determined that it be for some good, and unaware of the feelings Aiden now has, he implores the Immortal Power.

Holding the dull metal coin about his neck, he ponders in deep thought for a moment, then flips it. "Tails" he grumbles, "I guess the straight approach it'll be."

"Celsiun!" he shouts into the suddenly silent bubble. "Guide us!"

Aiden
Tuesday January 29th, 2008 12:10:37 AM

Aiden, slowly rises to his feet, his eyes wide in surprise (and shock) as they stare at his hand. Then slowly, he begins to laugh.

His eyes sparkling, "not quite what I expected...price nor prize...."

ooc: can he feel the others (aka Yanosh and packsister on it...and their general health/needs?)

DM Kathy
Tuesday January 29th, 2008 2:36:54 AM

Yanosh and Olaf, each in his own way, pray for their wunjo. Both feel the urge to look--really look--at Aiden's transformation.

Although his hand is blackened and shriveled, nothing about Aiden appears undead. On the contrary, his eyes are bright, his cheeks have a healthy glow, and there is a slight smile on his face. More than that, though, there is something--altered--about him, although not in a bad way. You feel a sense of strength and rightness just being near him.

Experimenting with his new senses, Aiden finds he can indeed sense the condition and needs of his wunjos and Packsister. His friends are worried about him. Packsister needs to empty her bladder. Their needs are simple, and easily cured.

Looking around, you can see the protective bubble beginning to dissolve. Snow is once more whirling about you, and the temperature drops abruptly.

Time to decide what comes next....

Yanosh
Tuesday January 29th, 2008 3:44:37 PM

Seeing that Aiden looks better then what he first thought Yanosh asks,"Is the deed done Wunjo?" Placing a hand on Aidens arm Yanosh looks into his eyes as if trying to see for himself if Aiden is really there or not.Shield over his back Yanosh never released his grip on his Axe, just in case.

Aiden
Tuesday January 29th, 2008 5:37:53 PM

Looking over to Yanosh, "yes..." he smiled, "it was done..."

"I may feel the land..." he replied, his voice back to the 'gruff' aspect that the ranger had carried for so long, "but I think we'll feel the cold even more..."

"Once Olaf is ready, we should return quickly to the cave and retrieve the statue."

Looking at Packsister, he leaned into her so that his voice was a whisper (and would not embarrass her), "I do not know if you understand me anymore since the spell is gone...but you can relieve yourself..."

Olaf
Tuesday January 29th, 2008 10:04:24 PM

Olaf nods in assent, but keeps a slight distance from the "gift" of the land: Aiden's blackened hand. "Aye, back to the cave. I've got some particular luck to share with her."

"If we need to keep a vigil in the cold, I can help with that, too. But let's finish this."

DM Kathy
Wednesday January 30th, 2008 12:58:42 AM

As the blizzard begins to rage about you once more, you retreat to the shelter of the tunnels. Packsister leaves your group momentarily, but rejoins Aiden just inside the entrance.

Once more, you make your way through the tunnels, becoming more familiar with the twisting path you need to take. Aiden's new-found senses still do not reach into the Ice Palace, though he can still fell the rest of the Vein about him.

You return to the Ice Palace to find things much as they were before. The orcs have departed, but Ragnhild lounges atop her throne, attended by the two blank-faced servants.

The minute you step into the room, Aiden feels a wash of nausea come over him as he is cut off from the Vein. No longer can he feel its creatures or its places, and the effect is like a blow. His senses reel and the room spins about him.

Ragnhild does not seem to notice. "Back so soon?" she says. "It is done, then? Or, did you change your minds?"

Heyoka
Wednesday January 30th, 2008 9:43:04 AM

Having been left out in the entryway to do her meditating (i.e.-unconcious!) she slowly comes to. Without moving, she considers her surroundings, listening for what has been going on. Fisher, with his usual concern, has not left her side. Seeing her move her head even the tiniest bit, he immediately lifts his, his eyes fixed on her face.

Yanosh
Wednesday January 30th, 2008 2:35:45 PM

Striding towards the witch. "It is done. Let us have the Shield of Domi so we may end this." Yanosh barks harshly at the witch. Axe and shield raised some in case of any kind of trick.

Olaf
Wednesday January 30th, 2008 3:56:06 PM

The young blonde man steps in front of Yanosh, gently putting his hand on the dwarf's shoulder. "Not done quite yet, friend," he softly intones.

Stepping forward, Olaf says to Ragnhild, "Of Aiden's binding, he will say---though look to his hand for physical proof of Celsiun's approval. Of my particular luck, which I have promised to you, let us speak." He reaches about his neck, and takes the dull metal coin off its leash. Brandishing it high, he continues, "Ragnhild, in this coin was my particular luck found, and in this coin it is bound. Take it, and be done." That said, he offers it to her.

DM Kathy
Thursday January 31st, 2008 1:05:32 AM

Heyoka and Fisher join the party as they return to the Ice Palace. Yanosh opens with a bit of Dwarven diplomacy, and Olaf offers the rest of the payment.

"I accept your luck, which you give me freely," Ragnhild says. She gestures, and the male servant moves to pick up the small statue and bring it to you. Since Aiden seems indisposed, he hands it to Olaf with a little bow, accepting the coin in exchange. "Please accept in exchange the Shield of Domi, which you have long sought." She waves her hand in dismissal. "And, since we have no further business, I would ask that you leave my realm. It seems no longer to agree with your friend."

Thus, you depart the Ice Palace for the last time--with the Shield of Domi safely in your possession at last.

Heyoka
Thursday January 31st, 2008 8:39:42 AM

Puzzled by the turn of events, she looks curiously at Olaf, holding the Shield proudly.

"What happened? Last I noticed, we were about to have a big fight. Did I get knocked out or something?"

Aiden
Thursday January 31st, 2008 2:41:26 PM

ooc: apologies, by the time I got home from work, the post was up.

Aiden seemed quite numb and in a way, out of sorts when they had entered the different realm. Once they had exited, he seemed to awaken.

"Strange..." was all that he could say. "Where we were was not part of the Vein..." His eyes seemed to lower, as if embarrassed, "my apologies.." the last word awkwardly coming out, "for not dealing with her, but it appeared that the binding was strong."

Yanosh
Thursday January 31st, 2008 2:59:43 PM

Once the Shield of Domi is in their possession Yanosh qeickly geusters everyone towards the exit. "Now is the time to leave. Come let us get the shield back to Ice Peaks." With that said Yanosh will lead the group out once the storm has stopped tearing at the land.

Olaf
Thursday January 31st, 2008 8:32:46 PM

Olaf squints at the elven druid, nods, and says, "Heyoka, aye, good to have you back. We were all effected by that strange chamber, it seems." Then, he looks at the prize, the shield they have worked so hard to get, and the price paid for its return. And he spits on the ground, stamps his feet, and handing it to Aiden, continues, "I'm thinkin' its time to get this back to where it belongs. We've got a long, cold trip ahead, and the orcs may well be waitin' for us."

With that, he moves to scout the way into the deepening cold of the storm.

DM Kathy
Friday February 1st, 2008 1:48:33 AM

United again, and with the Shield of Domi in your possession, you leave the Ice Palace and head back into the storm. Aiden feels instantly better on his return to the Ice Vein. He can only imagine what it would be like to try to leave for any length of time. His fate and the Vein's are truly entwined now.

When the storm finally blows itself out, you camp briefly to rest before starting your return to Ice Peak village. Although the journey is long, it is not nearly as difficult as it might have been. Aiden's new-found senses make it quite easy to avoid predators, orcs, and others that might halt your progress.

It is therefore a mere week after you begin your journey that you find yourselves once again in the familiar warmth of Ice Peak village. Some things have changed in your absence, but much remains the same. And everyone is overjoyed to have the Shield returned once again. A feast is held in your honor, and you are proclaimed heroes of the village.

Whatever else your adventuring careers hold, you now carry with you the quiet confidence that--at least once--you were able to fulfill a long-sought quest and bring harmony to your village once more.

Hey guys....

It was a good run (I think we were really coming together quite well there...)

Good luck folks (Kathy you definitely rocked as a gm!), and hopefully I'll be seeing you guys in future games (once my personal life straightens out a bit)

Kathy...just out of curiousity, what were the game mechanic results (I might bring Aiden into a game I'm dming tabletop along with the witch...)
