"I don't mean to step on toes, Inspector, however there is also form 13 dash 6 of the lands act that needs to be completed" Ahhh... paperwork and laws. Tink is indeed home again "Perhaps we can also have a quiet word later about a related matter?"

No. Just no. There is no way that Tink will be sitting quietly and letting Agatha take any further part in things here. She's still waiting for Agatha to reveal her allegiance to Marteus. It seems like the sort of thing she'd do. If Tink could think of just one law that Agatha had broken, just one, she'd have her in chains so fast that... that...uh... "Shoot, I thought I had something there"

Sesha - 305/320. AC 37
Monday December 9th, 2019 7:31:24 PM

Sesha makes a point to stand with Agatha during most of the preceedings. She knows Agatha is very disliked, but Sesha understands and forgives her, probably because the way she sees it, she would have handled a group like the Iron Dragons exactly the same way Agatha did.

Sometimes, needs must. Even if you know the good guys will .. probably help you ... its prudent sometimes to manipulate them into helping you for sure. And if Serenbeth was at stake? She'd do it in a heartbeat.

She gives Agathas hand a comforting squeeze now and then.

"If you need anything, be sure to come to me. It will probably have the best result."

Beri looks at Tink's frustration. Agatha hasn't exactly been on the Dragon's side, and her actions had put them in very real danger. He reaches out to Tink over the link:
...So, Agatha wants to play the role of a notary? And she's a cohort of the head of Kevintar’s faith? Sounds like a conflict of interest to me. I would suspect that most places would have some sort of law against such conflicts... and Hook City sure likes it's laws...

DM Hugh - The Meeting part Deux
Tuesday December 10th, 2019 12:47:32 AM

Restlin is not in the God Slaying business and conveys this to the assembled group. He speculates that killing a God could cause another cataclysm and that it is better to have Marteus around in a weakened state than a potentially worse alternative.
Garret chomps on his meat on a stick and suggests he’s had enough of dealing with Gods
Wyaar suggests that direct conflict with Gods is not the job of the Dragon Consortium and explains he’d only go directly against Marteus if Queen Ma’ab asked him to
Zane echoes what the others said about taking on Gods. He asks if there are any other questions.
Tink mentions form 13 dash 6 with respect to forms that need to be filled out to set Kevintar’s followers up with land and asks if she can talk later quietly. Tink is still dubious of Agatha.
Sesha stands with Agatha during most of the proceedings. She can empathize with why Agatha made the decisions she did and if she was put in Agatha’s position dealing with a group like the Iron Dragons she could see herself behaving the same way. She tells Agatha to come to her if the woman needs anything.
Beri looks at Tink’s frustration and asks if Agatha being both the cohort of someone forms are being filled out for and the notary of said forms is a conflict of interest.

A child responds to Zane, “Were you scared to travel through the gates and oppose Marteus to his face?”

Auslander says, “I think this one is for you also since I wasn’t there.”

After the child has been satisfied another person raises their hand. He is a tall elf with a hooked nose who says, “Jelatheon Oewellion with the Hook City Herald; May I have an exclusive interview with the Iron Dragons? I want to do a retrospective of your adventuring careers culminating in your most recent adventurer and this meeting on the bridge.”

Auslander says, “I’m not your manager. If you want to grant the reporter an interview you are more than welcome too.”

Zane crouches down and gets almost to the child's level.
"I was more worried that scared while we traveled through the gates. There were a couple encounters on the other side of the gates when I was very nervous that we might not succeed at our mission.
As to facing Marteus, we weren't there to face him.
He leans in closer to the child, then stage whispers, "Now, between you and me, yes, I was scared, I'm only me, a Man, Marteus is a Divine being, he is a God, and a God has awesome amounts of power. I was scared he'd snap his fingers and I'd be gone. Remember this, just because you are scared, doesn't make it so you can't be Brave at the same time. Be brave, Be the Best you can be, and be honest to yourself."
Zane stands back up, satisfied with what he's said. Over the rings, "I could have the reporter talk to Kip...."

Yes, it would be best to meet tomorrow to discuss it. It is a far more complicated tale than you would believe, and we want to make sure we hit all the important points. Or perhaps you would believe it, I know that a lot of our tale is already permanently recorded in the records of Hook City, though I'm sure the full tale you would tell is far more interesting than the summary in any bureaucratic records.

Zane crouches down and answers the child. He tells her about being nervous during some of the encounters and explains that they weren’t there to face Marteus but whispers that he was scared. He encourages her to always be brave and then offers over the ring to have Kip talk to the reporter.

Garret offers the little girl some meet on a stick.

Bosk lets the others answer the questions

Restlin suggest Oewellion meet them at the tower the next day at noon. He feels that this is important as he wants to make sure his legacy is captured correctly.

Beri agrees it is bet to meet tomorrow to discuss tomorrow the interview. He suggests the story is more complicated than someone would believe but they want to make sure all the important parts get hit. He says a lot of their adventures were recorded in the records of Hook City but the reporter probably wants something more interesting than bureaucratic records.

The story done, the question answered the catered gathering of people at the bridge turns into a block party-esque atmosphere. Guilfoyle continues to produce small plates well into the evening and everyone is able to have their fill even any halflings in the audience. Some musicians happen to be in attendance and they start serenading the crowd.

As things start to wind down Auslander seeks out Tink and says “There was some matter you wanted to discuss with me.”

How do you spend the party and the evening after the party? Do you throw and afterparty at the Tower after the bridge gathering? Who do you invite?

The next day around noon Oewellion shows up. He knocks at your door and says, “I believe I am expected?”

After being ushered in he asks, “So what are you looking for exactly in order to grant my interview request? I have no intention of doing a hatchet job if that is what you are worried about and as pointed out yesterday the official records are rather dry. The retrospective I want to write is a noble/ignoble race interest piece.”

Tink briefs Auslander on the events with Agatha. The deception, running off without warning, putting the party in danger, and everything else she can think of. She is very serious throughout her report.

"After all the trouble she has caused us I would advise against having her act as a notary for Kevintar's faithful. In fact, based on her actions, I would advise caution dealing with her at all. I can't say I trust her nor will again. She put her secretive goals ahead of the dangers and risks to others. Not the sort of person I would trust in terms of looking out for the people of Hook City.

If a notary is to work with this ... organisation ... I would recommend Robert. He seemed an honest fellow. I'd be happy to mentor him if he needs assistance."

Restlin's not there with Tink, but he is in spirit.

He does keep the party going for a while on the bridge. After all, they gathered Hook City's dignitaries and catered it. It would look foolish to just wrap it all up in 10 minutes. He puts on his public face even though he's just bone tired and ready for some downtime.

The next day, he's prepared to meet with this Oewellion bloke. "What are we looking for?" He ponders for a moment. "Make us look good, make sure to highlight how different we all are and how we use that as a strength, make sure we seem like fun people. Because we are...even Bosk."

I think I'll stay out a while. With such a colossal change in the pantheon I am sure there will be a lot of talk going on. I doubt anything is going to happen until the gods sort things out amongst themselves and the results get relayed to their temple heads, but it never hurts to be informed of the way things are shifting within the walls of the city.

Beri heads to the Drunken Lyre for a few pints, reporting back any interesting rumors over the rings, but will return in time to be rested and presentable for the interview.

When he discusses the terms of the interview Beri has a few thoughts as well.
Also, make sure any discussion of the gods involved is respectful. I've been killed by a god before and I really would prefer not to have that happen again. With a shift in power like what happened, it can be easy to let one's feeling towards certain ones slip through, especially when it comes to the gods of testing.

Tink airs her suspicions regarding Agatha and says "Yes well if she is Gaelen's cohort I think she cannot be his notary as well per the city bylaws
I would quote the exact paragraph but seeing as how I'm off duty now I'll had a few rounds. Why don't you send my clerks copies of your notary's resume and we can register him with the selection process."

Garret parties late and can be heard snoring when Oewellian shows up.

Restlin also parties though not as late as Garret. The next day he tells the reporter that they want to look good and how the Iron Dragons though different use that as a strength and lastly he says to make them all seem fun even Bosk.

Zane leaves the party to check in on his Clan of The Bronze followers in the old stable area. He is greeted with cheers of "All hail Ths Bronze One!" and other adorations and he learms from kip that the courier service they've been running has taken in enough revenue to keep them provisioned.

Beri spends the night of the party at the Drunken Lyre. He tells the others of rumors he heard. Supposedly some golden eyed menace is causing problems in Dirt City and The Mailed Fist sent a unit to investigate rumors of a lich. Asife from those bits of info the rest of the convo ks rather boring. The next day the druid is prsssntable for the reporter and suggests that any discussions involving the Gods are repectful.

Oewellian says "killed by a God eh? That sounds like an interesting story. Don't suppose you would like to talk about it?"

As to Restlin and Beri's request Oewellian says I can make you look good and as for fun that party you threw speaks for itself. I can also be tasteful with respect to the Gods. For the part about highlighting how your differences are a strength can you give me some examples? Assuming this interview is happening I would like to start with how you all met and move forward in time from there.

"Most of us weren't there when the Iron Adventurers formed. Bosk was, I think Beri was, or at least joined soon after?" He looks to Beri for confirmation.

"I joined early in the group's history, but the rest of us have shuffled in and out. Bosk can tell you about the founding, as well as how we got this tower. He loves telling that story.

"As far as examples, that's tough. We've been together so long, that we just know when someone's going to do something. If a group of bad guys charges us, our melee folks back off until we casters throw area effect spells at them. If someone asks us a question one person's particularly well suited to answer, we all just stare at them waiting for them to answer it. When there's a story to be told, it's assumed I'll be the one doing it, for example."

Restlin's purposely not turning on his storytelling mode. He's not here to impress this guy, he's here to make sure what gets written is appropriate.

"It's respect, really, that defines us. We are all ridiculously capable people, and we don't waste time second guessing each other. We disagree constantly, and have had tempers flare, but we speak plainly, figure it out, and move on without grudges.

"Though I am still kinda sore about the time Bosk wouldn't let me save the world by taking a bath."

I joined up with Bosk shortly after he started his adventure, and indeed I was one of those that signed the initial paperwork to form the Iron Adventurers... because, in Hook City there is always paper work.

As for the time I was killed by a god, now that's an interesting story!

You see, we were called upon by Gargul himself to deal with a danger that could mean the end to all life in the Wold. A danger that was being brought about by a cult, and we had found out that even Gargul's most devout had been deceived into believing they were serving him. Well, naturally I asked how we could tell we were serving the will of Gargul and not the imposter when the imposter was able to fool those who have devoted a lifetime to Gargul.

..You no doubt have seen the dimple in the middle of my forehead

Beri brushes aside his hear to give the reporter a clear look.

I watched in terror as the god transformed into a giant eye 100 feet tall. I was helpless as I watched the eye crash into me with a force enough to kill a man a hundred times over. I learned that day that Gargul isn't one for subtlety.

I am told that my soul rose like mist from my corpse, my spirit unable to interact beyond sending a feeble whisper. That there is the mark left where the Rolling Eye of Gargul first touched me. It twinges painfully whenever in the presence of the God of Life and Death, but thankfully not if he is absent. It is also a reminder of why I worship Queen Maab and not Gargul.

ooc: Sorry, I feel asleep posting last night.

"There he goes!" "Get him!"... That is how it all began. Hard to believe it was only a few years ago. Let me start at the beginning.

It had been raining for the last three days, and the best thing that may be said about the drizzle that continued into the new day was that it was not the downpour that had been occurring previously. I surved the scene before me: the vast, muddy expanse of space that is right outside the northern gates into the City of Magic-- Mudtown....and I was the newest visitor. The pace was brisk and the action a bit lively, but anyone looking to hire themselves out as guards to the merchants had been directed to this area of Hook City--which the city guard did not regard as part of the city proper, so (short of a murder occurring within sight of the gates or the guard towers of the huge protective wall that surrounds the city) any people who occupied Mudtown were largely on their own.

I had left the bad memories of my hometown behind me and was concerned with staking a place in this locale--specifically the track that was called "Hire Road." The "road" was a muddy, wide swath cut between several rows of wooden buildings that were lined with adventurers seeking positions with the merchants that have to wait outside the walls of the city until their number is called. There were several people that traversed the road, obviously merchants, as they all seemef to peer at the various mercenaries with intent eyes. The easiest way to tell the difference between the merchants and the mercenaries was that most of the merchants were being carried over the ever-muddy ground, usually in specially-crafted litters or chairs mounted on horizontal poles, although there were a few who seem to be levitating. Occasionally one or another of these merchants beckoned to one or another of the mercenaries and began to speak in earnest with them about becoming "gainfully employed".

As I scanned the chaotic scene, I heared a yelp and turned to see a running little boy of about 3ft. in height being pursued by several people, who are shouting to each other: "There he goes!" "Get him!"

Myself and several other strangers stepped in to prevent the murder if the little boy....well... He ended up being a handling thief disguised as a little boy, but because of how we handle the situation a merchant hired the lot of us and the rest is history.

I believe I am the only remaining member of that party, but we together formed a protection group. We faced a well know group known as the Iron Band, and Beri joined our group at this time. After our next job we officially became know the Iron Adventurers. This was in no small part due to a half-orc in our group known as Maikill. He figured that Iron was strong, and the Iron Band was strong. Therefore we needed Iron in our name to be strong. No amount of arguing would change his mind....

Anyway, since then members have come and gone until the final group you see before us came together. I will let the others tell of their addition.

DM Hugh - The interview
Friday December 13th, 2019 1:03:06 AM

Garret continues to sleep as the wold is not at stake for once.
Restlin explains that aside from Bosk most of the group wasn’t there at the group’s inception. He explains that he had joined early but the rest have shuffled in and out and suggests Bosk can tell about the founding and how they got the tower.
The Mage Priest then starts talking about how the group members complement each other listing off how when they are attacked the meleeists hold off until the casters can get off their area of effect spells, that if someone knows the answer to a question they just look at that person till they do and lastly explains he’s the designated storyteller but he doesn’t turn up the charm. The mendicant explains they are all capable people and while they disagree they speak plainly and figure things out. He then mentions the time Bosk wouldn’t let Restlin save the world by taking a bath.

Oewellian had been jotting things down in a journal while Restlin was talking. He looks up from his writing and says, “The time Bosk wouldn’t let you save the world by taking a bath? Don’t think I had heard that one. Also follow up question, were you and Matron in Waiting Sesha an item at that time and how did she feel about your bath plan if she was?”

Zane explains he joined the group, left to search for his parents then came back. He still believes they are no longer deceased and is continuing to search for them.
(OOC: I thought the cult had a guy who turned Zane’s parents remains into Bone Golems or because the golems are destroyed was their evidence the parents were resurrected?)

Oewellian says to Bosk, “If you can give me any information you have on your parents I can do what I can to put the word out in the Herald that you are seeking them out.”

Wyaar explains he joined because his queen told him too then mentions the time Restlin got stuck in a rope trick when every one else was muddy and wet.

Oewellian responds, “Could you elaborate on that story, Wyaar?”

Beri gives full details of the time that Gargul killed him for questioning the God including the resulting dimple that was created when the giant eye of Gargul crushed the druid. He explains that it aches when in the presence of the god of life and death and that that is the reason he too worships Ma’ab and not Gargul.
Oewellian says, “Well that is certainly a one of a kind mark. Not everyone can say I was killed by a God and brought back to tell about it. I’d understand if you didn’t want that part entering the record.”

Bosk explains how the group first formed by stopping the murder of what appeared to be a young human boy running through a local road where mercenaries gathered. He explains that the boy turned out to be a handling thief but a local merchant was impressed with how they hired the situation and they were given a job. He also explains that they became known as the Iron Adventurers when they defeated a group known as the Iron Band and a former member of the Iron Adventurers, a minotaur named Maikill was adamant they had Iron in their name because it was strong and nothing could dissuade the Taur from the notion so it just stuck. He defers to the others to tell how they joined.

Oewellian notices how some of the members appear to be missing and says, “Are the others not coming? I’ve heard interesting things concerning Garret and I’d like to converse with him more if possible.”

He says, “If they are coming while we wait perhaps in addition to elaborating on some of your anecdotes that were brought up could you tell the Herald about your most difficult adventure and your most rewarding one?”

Tink returns from her discussions with Auslander. The poor man had obviously had a little too much to drink. Robert - Auslander's notary - is who Tink had recommended. Perhaps Auslander had a different Robert in mind?

Oewellian has asked some interesting questions.

"I'm not exactly sure what it is I can provide that hasn't already been said.

There was one fight that I was quite proud of. We were fighting some colossal inter-dimensional monstrosity that was attacking the Hooks of the city. Garret managed to deliver the fatal blow but since it was in the air at the time it would make a huge crater when it hit the ground, potentially causing many injuries. I was able to get to it in time, slow it's fall, and ride it's corpse to the ground and assuming the landing pose. It would likely have been more impressive if anyone could have seen it at the time. Unfortunately I was invisible for the whole thing"

He wanders through the main room where people are talking without really opening his eyes and stumbles into the kitchen. He crashes around a bit as he seeks out some bits of bread and leftover meat.

He makes his way back into the main room, munching on the stale bread. He looks around and perks up a bit when he realizes that they're telling stories. "Hey, have you heard about the time I rode on a dragon? Actually, it was more than once, and I'm not talking about a nice, sort-of tame dragon like Bosk over there..."

Restlin hand waves the bath issue away. "It's a personal grievance, not one for posterity. As for Sesha and I, I think she was still feeling me out. Our relationship took some persistence, but we clicked right away.

"That whole adventure was a big deal to Sesha, seeing how it ended up culminating in her current title. I'll let her elaborate if she'd like it on the record.

"If you want to know about the most dangerous adventure I think we've faced, that was a time before most of us were here. I think just Zane, Bosk, and Beri are the only ones besides myself that were around for it. There was an illithid demigod that had..." He looks to Bosk. "Well, it had caused some past trauma with us. I'll leave it at that unless Bosk wants to elaborate. That's not my story to tell.

"Anyway, we were stuck in a pit with this gargantuan, tentacled beast. That pit was crazy deep, too. Took us over an hour to walk down into it. Looking back, the fight didn't last too long. They rarely do. It was able to knock several of us out, though. We'd get everyone healed up just long enough to press the attack before the beast would put us down again. I got the bright idea to fly far above it's head and drop an anchor feather token on it. It was a stupid idea, but that must have been a lucky token because it turned into the biggest anchor I've ever seen. It crushed the illithid right before Zane ripped its heart out.

"Another minute and we would have been out of healing magic. We'd just be 8 more souls consumed by it. I've fought liches, ancient dragons, intelligent asteroids...none of it scarier than that demigod."

"I first met the Original group when I was on my way to Hook City from The Monastery. That's where I was raised, a temple of sorts, but not to any God, a Temple to personal perfection. They taught me from when I was found floating at sea by a fisherman who dropped me off there. I still have some trouble keeping what they call balance, but I'm happy with what I've achieved.
Well anyways, i was almost to the edge of Mudtown when I fell into a hole that opened up beneath me. When I stopped sliding down the slick tunnel, I was in a tomb like place with a group of strangers, by the time we fought our way out, I had been accepted as a part of the Iron Adventurers. After that we were tasked with clearing out some ratty old Tower.
As to what Restlin said about the pit, I will also add, I think was a HUGE spider creature before we got very far in."

Beri shrugs his shoulders.
You can tell that story, being killed by Gargul is a big part of my story. Besides, if Gargul wanted it kept private he wouldn't have left his mark square in the middle of my head. However, that's also the reason I'd be careful to respect the gods in the article, next time he may be in the mood to bring someone back afterward.

Sesha smiles a little, reminiscing.

"It took a lot for me to decide that even pursing an adult relationship was okay. I was attracted to the mage priest, but not fully in love. Not yet. I don't even know when that happened."

She thinks a moment.

"I'm still incredibly young for my kind. To put it in perspective, it would be something like Restlin here dating a fifteen year old human in his twenties. Also, I aged quite a bit... to this point.. in a matter of hours. When the Chaos Bell pulled my party through it, I was still very much a child. Even by human terms, I was twelve."

She grins.

"Thats what the hard part was. Figuring out my age, surrounded by short lived noble races. I've figured out a lot in the few years since, but if Hook had interspecial dating laws, Restlin here might have been picked up by the authorities."

Bosk laughs at the mention of the Illithid. I remember that. The cursed thing was not even worthy a death by my blade. I pulled a rock hard fruitcake out of my bag and beat it with that before Restlin crushed it...I also had an old bet with someone who dared me to use it as a weapon. I figured beating a demi-god with it would make a better story than your run of the mill criminal.

As far as respecting the gods, everyone must remember that they are just like us in that they have friends and enemies as well. Should you overthrow a god they have thousands of followers and other gods who might choose to exact their revenge. You might also create an opening for an even more strict power to rise up in the ranks. As a general rule it is better to let the gods handle the affairs of gods.

When it comes to our other adventurers, the newer members had their own group before the gods brought us together. They might not have been Iron Adventurer's at that time, but their stories are are still an important part of our formation.

DM Hugh - The interview
Monday December 16th, 2019 1:28:27 AM

Tink brings up a fight they had with an interdimensional monstrosity attacking the Hooks where although Garret delivered the final blow, Tink was able to get to it, slow its fall and assume the landing pose all while being invisible.

Oewellian asks Tink, “Do you find being invisible the most useful status to have on a battlefield?”

Garret crashes into the room chewing on some stale bread looking like he just rolled out of bread. He asks Oewellian if the elf had heard about the times he road dragons and not the nice kind like Zane. Oewellian looks at the halfling, sniffs, puts on a polite mask and says “Well, there were some dry accounts in the historical texts from the archives, but I’d love to hear the tales from you in your own words.”

Restlin waves away the bath question, explains a little bit about his relationship with Sesha eluding to the adventure that culminated in her title being hers to elaborate on and then tells about the time they fought an Illithid demigod. He tells about how it would knock some of them out, they’d heal then it would wound them again before Restlin dropped an anchor feather token on its head and crushed it.
Oewellian says, “A feather token you say? Fascinating and what an unorthodox strategy. Did you use any other unusual means to prevail in other battles?”

Zane explains that he met the original group when he was on his way to Hook City from the monastery. He explains he fell down a hole and when he stopped sliding he was in a tomb with a group of adventurers and when he exited he was part of the Iron Adventurers. He also mentions the huge spider on the way in to the illithid battle.

Oewellian says to Zane, “Just how big was this spider? Have you encountered larger spiders since?”

Wyaar brings up the time Restlin tried slaying a dragon with a shaving razor but it turned out to be a good dragon.

Oewellian says to Wyaar, “could you elaborate more on that story?”

Beri gives Oewellian permission to leave the Gargul story in there.
Sesha explains it took a while for her to decide that persuing a relationship was ok. She doesn’t know when she fell in love with him. She also explains that she is young for her kind and that she aged quite a bit in a short time when interacting with the chaos bell and that it took her awhile to figure out her age surrounded by the short lived races.

Oewellian looks at Sesha with an odd expression on his face, he finally says, “Oh cousin I’m so sorry for you. I know that there exists a schism between my people and yours but to grow up as you did must have been difficult.”

He then says, “Do you want me to strike that scandalous bit about your age and Restlin from the record? Given this city it is possible in some corner somewhere there is some forgotten interspecies dating law and probably better not to chance it.”

He then says, “I don’t suppose you could tell us more about the Chaos Bell?”

Bosk elaborates on the Illithid encounter explaining he used some hard fruit cake as a weapon. Encourages the respect of the Gods by explaining they have friends and enemies too and lastly reminds that the newer members had adventuring groups before they joined the Iron Dragons.

Oewellian says, “Yes, Bosk raises an excellent point. For those of you who were parts of other groups besides the Iron Dragons what were some of your more memorable adventures from your other groups and how did your former groups compare to the Iron Dragons?”

Restlin narrows his eyes in mock aggravation with Sesha. "Lady, you were twice my age and had gone through a lot more in your life than I had. If anything you were robbing my cradle."

He leaves the story of the Chaos Bell for his companions. It was more their story than his.

"Unorthodox strategies? Well, there's this little guy..." Restlin digs around in his pack until he finds what he's looking for: a small rubber pig that squeaks when you squeeze it. "I named it Waddles. The Death Dragon Cult...guess we can talk about them now...had an intelligent asteroid they'd made named Soma. This pig used to be its nerve cluster. Its brain, basically. This spell's not supposed to be permanent, but magic's weird in Jericho space.

"We were in Jericho space, by the way. Not that you'd have an easy time flying an asteroid around on the Wold proper.

"As for that dragon, it was on my luck quest." For this, Restlin slips into storytelling mode.

"I'd gotten it into my head that I was gifted with good luck, so I got turned on to worshiping Wardd. I knew I'd have to prove myself, so I decided to go on a luck quest. One of the items I picked at random to take along was a straight razor.

"We met this blue dragon. He wasn't nice, but blue dragons rarely are. We made a deal that one of us would fight him one on one. At that point in our careers, it would have killed us all. Bosk or Zane stepped up to fight him, but the dragon said that he got to choose. So, he chose me.

"I hadn't thought this whole one-on-one thing was a good deal in the first place, so this made me pretty cross. I knew I was going to die; won't bother telling you otherwise. It was the most one-sided fight I've ever been in. Decided to go out true to the luck quest, though, and attacked it with this..." He walks over to the mantle and takes a wooden case from it. He opens it to reveal an unassuming razor. "Got one good shot in that bounced off his scales before he casually sliced me open and carried me off, very dead.

"Next thing I knew, I'm in his treasure room very not dead. Then this dragon has the gall to ask for a favor: it wanted me to fix his grandma. She was a gold dragon that had been turned into a gold fish. All it took was a greater dispel magic spell. Could have saved everyone a lot of trouble if he'd just asked up front.

"I did get to ride him, though. I think that puts me as the first dragon to do so. Also gave me Shiny here." He motions to the chromatic, gleaming sword on his hip. "Used to be an umbral blade. Helped a lot with that demigod I just mentioned, but it was a real bummer. Always going on about following me into darkness, calling me master, so I fixed it. It doesn't talk much, but it's always in a good mood when it does."

As to the spider's size, I seem to remember it being BIG, the body being 10-12' long and 8-9' high, then you add on 12' long legs. Let me tell you this, I made sure there were no spiders in my room after that, and it took me a couple years to get past killing every spider I saw after that.
Two years ago, that changed right around this time of year actually, I was visiting the Giggling Ghost and opened up a random gift."

Crawling out of one of Zane's pouches on his belt, comes a fuzzy spider that climbs up onto his shoulder and sits there.
'Meet Skitterz."

Later that night, long after this nosy reporter's gone, Restlin exits his room and descends. He climbs down the smooth stone steps he carved years ago, until they become rough and lead to the grotto Sesha calls home in the Iron Tower.

He'd pondered doing this at the Ghost, but quickly realized making it so public and thrusting Sesha unexpectantly into the spotlight wouldn't be her cup of tea. He announces his presence by clearing his throat and tapping on the cave wall. He calls on the rings if she's out of earshot.

"You know I dabble in jewelry as a hobby," he starts when she decides to acknowledge him. "Did you know I've spent years in every civilized destination we've gone to looking for flawless moonstones? Common ones are everywhere, and cheap. Flawless ones are very difficult to find." He produces a sandalwood box, well oiled with a golden hinge. He opens it, producing a small, platinum band with a single diamond solitaire surrounded by flawless moonstones. It's carefully designed to not snag on pockets or in pouches, and is sturdy enough to take several hits without scratching or breaking. It looks unassuming, but anyone with skill in appraisal or jewelry can tell it's worth a great deal of coin (in no small part due to it being a hand-crafted original made by everyone's favorite Iron Dragon). It also has 10 luck points stored on it.

"It took a while, and we've had a lot on our plates with saving everyone's lives. I think time may be on our side now, though." He kneels and presents the box. "So I'm hoping it's a good moment to ask if you'll do me the honor."

Restlin suggests it was actually Sesha that robbed his cradle before deferring the tale of the chaos bell to others. When asked about unorthodox strategies Restlin introduces Oewellian to waddles and explains it used to be the brain of a nerve cluster in a living asteroid in Jericho Space.

The mendicant then goes into more depth concerning the story of the dragon and the razor explaining that he was on a luck quest and had found the razor so when pitted against a dragon in single combat he figured he might as well test his luck. Luckily, it was all a ruse and the mendicant ended up in a treasure room where he could help the dragon by dispelling a curse that turned its gold gramma into a goldfish. The Mage Priest demonstrates he won shiny as a reward and also explains that he was actually the first Iron Dragon to ride a dragon.

Oewellian says, “Interesting. So did you folks get to go to Jericho space often in your adventures or even places stranger than Jericho space? Besides waddles wasn’t that trip where you guys picked up the Starblazer? And then later you acquired that other crystalline transport?”

Garret accuses Oewellian at not being that good of a story teller.

Oewellian looks at Garret and says, “I am a fine story teller and would direct you to the Hook City Herald back issues to see evidence of my skill. However, I’m not in story telling mode write now. I am in fact finding mode. I’m trying to make you guys look good as your Mage Priest friend Restlin asked me too. In order to make you folks look the best I’m trying to compile all sorts of interesting notes about your adventures. I am writing a noble / ignoble interest story about you all from your humble beginnings to the others who joined along the way. It will of course culminate in your saving of the Wold but I’m trying to pepper it with interesting points along the way. Now you mentioned you rode not nice dragons a couple of times. I have dry historical texts from the hall of records that talk vaguely about the times you lot have tangled with dragons but it doesn’t say on such and such date in such and such place Garret Goodbarrel wrestled a dragon or anything like that so if you want to elaborate on your dragon wrangling prowress now would be the time to do that and it can get added to the record.”
Zane explains he hadn’t adventured with other groups but he had went on walkabouts several times. He then explains that the body of the spider was 10 to 12 feet in length and 8 to 9 feet high with 12 foot long legs and that for a stint of time the Taur had made sure he got rid of all spiders in his vacinity at least until he opened up a gift of a fuzzy spider named Skitterz that rests on the his shoulder.

Beri explains that he too hadn’t been with other groups as he was with the Iron Adventurers from the beginning.

Oewellian says to Beri, “As a druid who has been adventuring with the Iron Dragons from the beginning was it especially hard to be based in this urban setting? I mean you folks obviously built this tower castle to suit your tastes as part of your dragon ceremony but before that when you were coming up and making your way in the world was it hard to feel that connection to nature in a magical city?”

Bosk elaborates the spider was large enough to swallow a taur whole.

Oewellian checks his notes and says, “Oh yes magical city; Do you have any memories or stories from your run-ins with the various magics, teucri artificacts, etc. this city happens to be home to? What of your run-in with the chit machine?”

Sesha watches Restlin quiety for a moment, then takes the moonstone ring from the box. She holds it up, admiring it. Then she looks down, and admires him.

Their whole relationship he had been perfect. When she needed space, he respected it. When she needed attention, he gave it. When no one else understood her impetuousness and anger, he not only understood it, but accepted it as a part of who she was.

She takes a knee, across from him, and slips the ring onto her finger. She places her hands in his, locking her slender fingers through his.

"I accept your token, Mage Priest, and will do you this honor. In return you have my heart, for as long as yours beats, and likely much much longer."

She smiles and stands, then retrieves a small cloth wrapped packet from under the pillows in her bedroll. She returns and offers it to him, unwrapped.

"It's a much more macabre trinket than yours, my husband, but I do wish you would treasure it. It quite literally nearly cost me my life."

The ring is quite clearly carved from bone, jointed in some areas, carved with dancing runes scrawled in undercommon. There is a small ruby set in what appears to be the divot of a knuckle.

"Red is the most ostentatious color I can think of, so it fits you Restlin. The ring itself.. well.", she hesitates for a bit, not entirely sure of her gift. "There was an old spell bloodwitches used to know, forgotten to us now. We could remove our own little finger, preserve it magically, and it served as a phylactery of sorts. Now that the old magic is gone and things are different, it serves no real purpose, but I still consider it important. It symbolizes my life, in a tiny, delicate way. So there's no one else whom should hold it, but you now."

She blushes a little, and looks up at the door. Closed, and secure.

"We've got some time, husband to the Matron of House Avon. And heirs don't produce themselves..."

Actually, I started life as a rogue so that wasn't an issue. But one day I looked around and realized that the old ways were no longer a part of this Wold. There just wasn't a way to keep doing what I had been doing. When it was brought to my attention that my old job role just wasn't possible anymore I figured as long as I was going to retraining myself for a new role I'd go all the way and try my hand at being a druid.

Beri's ears perk up at the mention of certain artifacts.
Teucri artifacts... the chit machine... I am sure that any stories involving such things would have resulted in a stern warning from that they are never to be spoken of and would need a signed statement from Auslander to discuss... but I'm guessing anyone asking such pointed questions has already permission. Is that correct?

"Dock? More Zane's thing. Not trying to minimize Dock, mind you. It's a remarkable device and was instrumental in our last mission. Zane really took a shining to it, though.

"As far as weird spaces, the weirdest had to be that fight with Korrine. Physics didn't behave itself during that battle. We basically only existed in four physical spaces at any given moment, but that space was large enough for an ancient umbral dragon. It's hard to explain. Two ants could stand at opposite corners of what should have been a 50' long platform and been able to smack each other. There are probably arcanists who could spend their careers experimenting with that space, but we made sure it wasn't accessible anymore. It was for the best."

Restlin briefly considers the fact that Sesha, very literally, has him wrapped around her little finger. He chuckles to himself and admits that it's more or less accurate in a metaphorical way too. He puts the thought aside as the lights dim and the music swells.

Garret keeps squinting at the elf journo not sure if he believes him before finally relenting and telling about the time he made the dragon go where he wanted it to go.

Beri explains to Oewellian that he started out as a rogue and later converted to Druidaism. The man’s ear perks up at mentions of the Chit machine and Teucri artifacts and the Druid brings up that discussion of that topic generally come with stern warnings and a written order from Auslander in order to even discuss.

Oewellian reaches into his satchel and takes out an envelope stamped with Auslander’s seal. He hands it over to Beri and says, “Go ahead. Open it. You will find I have been granted permission to discuss your run-ins with the Teucri artifacts. Things have been relatively quiet here for a while, life has settled down with the end of the chit machine and the Sargrass crisis kind of put things into perspective a little. The authorities are starting to think that maybe secrets aren’t all that they are cracked up to be and it might be time for transparency in some things.”

Restlin explains that Dock is more of Zane’s thing and that while not trying to downplay the remarkable nature of the construct that Zane really took a shine to it.

Restlin then explains that the battle with Korrine was probably the oddest space they had ever been in, going so far to describe it as best he could.

Tink sits back quietly while the group reminesces.

Oewellian says, “Well if you can answer my question about the Teucri artifacts and Chit Machine I will not take up more of your time. You folks have been more than helpful and I think I can write a piece that will be worthy of your legacy.”

(OOC: assuming someone will answer the question tomorrow and we will conclude the interview; besides Zane taking off for visiting the monastery and Sesha and Restlin making it official with an exchange of rings anyone else have any unfinished business to attend in game?)

Sesha accepts Restlin’s token and offers one of her own. Her’s is made of bone, jointed in areas with undercommon scrawled in places. It has a single large ruby set into it. She explains that it is the remnant of a spell that no longer functions when things changed for bloodwitches and that for her it symbolizes her life

The next morning Zane tells the others he will meet them at the ghost. He explains to Dock that if Zane is needed the ship should let the Tribe Leader know. He then stows his duffel and tells Kip to set course for The Brothers of the lotus and the Way of the Dragon

Kip says, “Aye!”

As the Starblazer begins to settle to the ground just outside of The Temple of the Lotus and the Way of the Dragon temple, Zane leaps from the rail and spreads his wings, landing lightly, for such a weighty 'Taur. At least he doesn't break any of the paving stones.
As he approaches the Temple's head monk, Zane calls upon his training in his youth, and greets him in as a respectful manner as he knows how. As he givers his Bow the ancient Monk, raps him between the horns with his cane.
As Zane reaches up and runs his head, the old man says, "I expected you months ago, where you been you ungrateful whelp?" This said by a hunched over bald old man.
Zane replies, "I've been a bit busy the couple years, first In Jericko Space, then with my new Tribe, I guess. I already informed the guards they're with me. Then we had that darned Red Grass stuff and an Escaping God to deal with. But yes, I meant to be back sooner...."
One of the monk trainees brings in tea and performs a ceremony, one Zane knew, but could rarely pull off without making a mistake. At one point Zane catches one of the cups as it was falling and puts it back where it should have been, and nods for the youngster to continue. The Old man almost smiles...
Afterwards the youth leaves the room, slightly embarrassed. "There are things which must be taken care of, they are your responsibility as will others once I continue my journey. I have a list."
Leaving things unsaid, he produces a scroll, on with is written a lot of tasks.
Zane bows and heads out, a few hours later the tasks are done and The Starblazer is one crew member shorter.
"Kip, set sail for the Float, The Iron Dragons, at least those that go in person, may need a quick get away."
Zane stays behind at the Temple because he knows there's more at hand, not the least of which is getting the Kobold Youth settled in and the Brothers used to the Idea that a Kobold is not target practice....

Well, the chit machine is a sad story. You see, there was an attempt to steal it and she was "damaged beyond sanity" . In the end we were able to talk her down and she realized she needed to do something she referred to as "rebooting" and to await repairs. We haven't heard the latest news, clearly we still don't have chits in circulation, but hopefully enough repairs were made that the poor thing's sanity has returned. Being the strictly confidential nature of the chit machine, news hasn't even reached those of us that were helping that night. If Auslander filled you in on that for your article, an udpate on her sanity's recovery would be appreciated.

OOC: Tink has no unfinished business left. As long as Agatha doesn't get a position of power, she can retire in relative peace

DM Hugh - The interview
Thursday December 19th, 2019 10:03:47 AM

Sesha heads out for the Giggling ghost.

Garret wonders into the kitchen and returns with meat on a stick. He offers a half eaten one to Oewellian.

Oewellian looks at the halfling’s offering and says,”No thank you, I ate before I came.”

Later on Garret wanders over to his favorite meat vendor thinking about the statue that captured his group of adventurers

Restlin agrees it is time to retire for the night and head for the Ghost.

Beri explains the story of the chit machine and that she was the victim of a robbery attempt and this damaged her sanity beyond repair. She said she had to do something called rebooting while awaiting repairs. The druid asks for an update on the Chit machine’s recovery if the elvish reporter was privy to more information.

Oewellian says, “I’ll do what I can”

He then says, “I bid you all good evening. Hopefully I will have something to share with you all soon.”

Zane meets with the head monk of the temple he studied at. The old master asks the Taur why it took him so long to return. Zane fills the monk in on his most recent adventures.

He then sees to the list of tasks the old master has set for him before ordering Kip to take Starblazer to the Float.

Kip says, “Aye, sir”

Zane stays behind to see to the settling in of the Kobold youth.

Meanwhile back at the Tower Torm and Auslander show up to visit.

Auslander says, “I hope the interview with Oewellian went well.”
Torm says, “HOW...Is...THE…...RETIRING...LIFE….SUITING...YOU...ALL?”

Restlin catches Auslander on the way out. He's never been close to Torm, though he respects the turtle, but Auslander's been a steady ally for years.

"Auslander, my favorite bureaucrat. Interview went fine, but my throat's all dried out from answering so many questions. Come to the Ghost with us. Drinks are on me."

Beri turns to Master Torm
I don't think retirement has really set in yet, but I've been planning to start work on my own Druid grove once things settle down. I'm also hoping I can do something about that barren muddy waste outside of Hook City, plant some grasses with a good root network that can be a foundation for other plants and wildlife to return to it.

He then addresses Auslander.
Good afternoon, the interview went pretty well. He did bring up an interesting question though, has any progress been made with the chit machine? Is here sanity starting to return? Or is she still shut down?

Zane goes about re-acquainting himself with the Temple and it's workings.... He introduces the Kobold to the other initiates and when asked what name he wanted to go by, the Kobold said "Maak". Zane handed him over to those in charge of that part of the place, and is glad it's not him.
The enthusiastic kobold might make it, but each must discover their own path.
As he is headed back to the Old Man's rooms, he's dumb struck....
A mural, or rather A MURAL in lettering 3 times the size. In the middle is a picture of Zane, starting near the bottom left and going up, over and down the other side is Zane's story, at the bottom right is a spot left unpainted as if his future has yet to be decided.... Next to the mural is a door over which is written Beyond is The Way of the Dragon and he can see there are full contact combat areas, something the Temple never had before, it had been all defensive training when he was a young boy here.
He rejoins the Old Man and they chat well into the night. Afterwards Zane retires to a guest room that's been set up for him and as he falls asleep, he enters the Giggling Ghost.....

Bosk laughs. It is not retirement so much as a changing of roles and giving the next generation their turn in the lime light.

Garret says, “oh...Torm”
Restlin catches Auslander on the way out and invites the stalwart ally to the Ghost.

Auslander says to Restlin, “If you insist.”

Torm says, “CAN…………..I……………….COME………..TOO?”

Beri informs Torm that they haven’t really had much time for retirement to set in though the man is hoping to start his own Druid Grove and hopefully do something about the nearby wastes. He then asks Auslander about the Chit machine.

Auslander says to Beri, “She’s still rebooting. Honestly I’m not sure how long it will take for that process to end or when we can expect a technician to appear. We found some leads in the ancient texts about some things called ‘autorecovery’ and ‘boot disk.’ Autorecovery sounds like what we want but why anyone would want disk shaped boots and what they have to do with the Chit Machine is beyond me. Those Teucri were a strange people”

Torm says, “THE…………….CHIT…..MACHINE….IS….UNNATURAL….STILL…...THOUGH….LOSING….ONE’s…..SANITY…...IS…...TOUGH”

Bosk laughs at Torm’s question telling the turtle it isn’t retirement so much as giving the next generation their turn in the limelight.

Meanwhile...at the monastery Zane sees that Maak the Kobold gets where he needs to be. He notices a new tapestry that is partially unfinished and partially of him before eventually settling down for sleep and entering the ghost.

Sesha does stop and give a wistful look towards the tower. She hadn't known it yet, but there won't be much more time spent here. At least not for her.

There was a family to raise, house to run, and a goddess to revive. Elves were long lived, but there was a lot to do.

Bosk gives everyone a final wave. We should be headed to the Giggling Ghost for our retirement party, but the can always reach us at our tower. Thanks to the portal Hook City provided us, I will be here for the Dragon Consortium or working at my vineyard in the Taur Isle. It has been a blessing serving this city, and we look forward to guiding the next generation of Adventures.

Epilogue

DM Hugh
Monday December 23rd, 2019 12:11:23 AM

Our heroes head to their retirement party at the giggling Ghost.

The headline of the Hook City Herald reads the following : The Iron Dragons: A Complementary Band of Unique Heroes.

From the article:

It started with a There he goes. Get him. Bosk and a group of adventurers who no longer journey with our Iron Dragons stepped in to prevent the apparent murder of a three year old boy only to see things turn out that the victim was no boy and was in fact a thief. From there they got a protection gig facing off against the Iron Band and it was during this time that Beriothian now a druid, then a rogue joined the party. After our heroes had defeated the Iron Band, Maikill a half-orc who no longer journey's with the Iron Dragons insisted on taking the name Iron Adventurers because Iron was strong.

Enter Zane a minotaur initiate to a martial arts temple he took a wrong turn and fell into a cave with the Iron Adventurers. A giant spider, and some adventure later and he became part of the group.

Zane did leave when receiving a tip about where his parents might be as he is still searching for them, but nothing came of it and he returned. He is still searching to this day. Any leads can be delivered to Zane at the Iron Dragons' Tower.

Though the roster has changed through the years the Iron Adventurers who later became the Iron Dragons have always been good to our city. Though at times things seemed kind of dire. They once fought an Illithid demigod who was damaging the party as fast as they could heal. If Restlin hadn't have dropped his feather token on the thing and gotten lucky with how big it had gotten this story may have been looking extremely different.

Their adventures had often ended up taking them to exotic locales or strange places. One time Restlin fought a dragon in single combat using a razor on a luck quest. He lost of course but the whole thing was just a sham as the dragon wanted Restlin to dispel his grandmother who had been trapped in the form of a gold fish. Other adventures have seen them in Jericho space where they fought a burning whale, a living space station and found the flying ship Starblazer. The living space station was once again defeated by some quick thinking by the Mage Priest Restlin when he turned its brain cluster into a piggy toy. They also fought an Umbral Dragon Korrine on a plane with odd physics and went dimension hopping in their most recent exploit where they saved the Wold. In fact these dragons seemed to have faced dragons a decent number of times despite their rarity with Restlin and Garret riding on dragons, though in Garret's case who found himself wrestling with dragons on a few occasions.

There have been highs and lows in the Iron Dragons illustrious careers. The day when everyone was getting muddy save for the mage priest with his rope trick, the day when the poor chit machine lost her sanity. They are still waiting for her to reboot and the technician to come. The day when Beriothian was slain and brought back by Gargul the Lord of Life and Death for not respecting Him. Let that be a lesson to all of us to be on our best behaviour when meeting with Gods. Beriothian sure learned respect and has the divet in his forehead to prove it.

There were good things too. Sesha became Matron in Waiting of her own house. Zane made friends with both Dock a crystalline ship and a tribe of kobolds that worship him like a deity. They were of course gifted their tower residence by the Dragon council and what a wondrous tower it is. Tink pulled off a really cool move while invisible and defending against threats to the hook, landing the corpse of one of the assailants safely away from folks in a cool pose that no one could see because she was invisible.

What is next for the Iron Dragons? Well retirement. They'll serve as rotating dragon stones for the Dragon Consortium. Zane will see to the monastery where he trained, Beri will start a druid grove, Sesha will take up the mantle of Matron. Her and her consort Restlin will presumably work at producing heirs. Bosk will serve Gargul, Wyaar will serve Ma'ab, Tink will serve Pantheon and Garret well he'll continue to enjoy meat on a stick and telling of the time he rode on a dragon.

So friends next time you see an Iron Dragon tell them thank you for they have saved us and the Wold several times over and if it is Garret, buy him either a meat on a stick or a Garret if you have the coin to spare.
