DM Jamie Saturday August 9th, 2008 8:43:01 AM Let mebegin by saying it is good to be back. We are all here to have fun and I make mistakes. If I do make a mistake on ANYTHING please bring it to my attention so we can fix it.
As you walk further and further out of the complex you soon hear the distant sound of water falling ahead. The smell is pleasent to the nostrils after what you have been through. As you near the point where the coblestones were cleaned your projection friend slows ans stops, "I can not go any further. This is the end of the complexes physical control."
You can look down and see that the tracks you had made earlier are no longer there. You can also see sunlight further out towards the exit where the cleft was.
You slowly make your way back out to where you had to jump. As you look out you see the lower valley stretch out before you. You can make out the vineyards of your winery. It also looks as if there is alots of activity and repairs being made. You can't see anything specific from this distance, but you can make out alot of activity.
As you sit taking in the view you see a lift coming up from below and a lift going down from above. Make your choice.

Where do the young hero's go from here? Whom do they talk to?
Bendis Sunday August 10th, 2008 12:54:58 PM
Bendis reiterates his earlier question whe n he recieves no reply.
Is there a method of moving between the Teucri sites? Are they linked by teleportation portals or something similar?
Calvierius 23/28 HP Monday August 11th, 2008 10:10:47 AM
"The creature said no teleportation magic works at all in those areas, Bendis. I believe that's how he answered that question."
Looking out over the valley below, Calvierius smiles for the first time in a long time. "Maybe we should return down to our lands and vineyards for the time being. If it is true that the *mumble don't want to say it out loud* might think us too weak to be a threat, now would be an excellent time to slowly husband our strength and perhaps bring in a few more close friends to our cause."
Looking at the Mondidiers in the group, Calvierius's smile fades. "I know what it feels like to lose family, my friends. Know that they shall be avenged, and this creature destroyed. I can feel the wrath of Jancassis building in me."

(hey all I am back, now that I have a new computer.)
Gigi still deep in thought about all that he wrote down as the beings were speaking, his hand periodically moves to where the amulet lays beneath his robes.
Becoming aware of the ongoing conversation, he blinks a few times and then speaks. "I too think we should head back to see what can be and is being done now for those that are now dependent upon us and then we should move on to possibly securing an ally or two.
DM Jamie Monday August 11th, 2008 10:29:46 PM
The illusion replies, "You friend speaks true." His big toothy grin seems to follow you as you move about. He waits at the edge of the clean path and says, "I await your return." He turns and goes back into the compound. As he does you see a broom appear and sweep the path behind him, thereby erasing your passage into the complex.
You stare out across the valley below you and see the activity below. You are at a crossroads right now. On one side is your family down below. You can go down and try to rebuild your strength and gather followers willing to come to your aide. Up above is shrouded in mystery and intrigue, but can also be the biggest payoff as you find powerful allies and take on the enemy head on. You must quickly make a choice. Do you go up or do you go down. The two platforms are about to pass and you never know if the platforms could stop working again, thereby stranding you on this ledge.
Zita Monday August 11th, 2008 11:19:04 PM
Shaking her head, Zita is kind of at a loss. That cock sure smile returns to her face soon though and she glances to the lifts. "Our people need us...but we also will be needing stronger allies." Glancing to both Rosario and Gigi she nods her head. "I would vote to go up...though I doubt the enemy would expect us to go back." Though she is the Duke she also feels that this is as much their decision as hers.
"Let us come to a decison quick." She can feel for those that want to go back and check on families, but can they afford to draw attention to them if they are ok. "Remember that this enemy will use everything it can to get to us...all of us." She glances to each in turn and sighs for she does not want to say it. "We put them at greater risk if we visit them...unless they are powerful enough to take care of themselves." Once again glancing to the lifts she sighs again. "Then again...look at Fabersham...he was immune and he had to be strong." It sends a shiver down her spine and she cannot help but hug herself tight.
Picci Monday August 11th, 2008 11:32:52 PM
"I think we should go forward, too." Picci agrees even as she puts a comforting arm around Zita. "Going back home is tempting--but we already know that our enemy is all over the area there. We're more likely to escape notice if we go somewhere that's unfamiliar to us--if only because the enemy doesn't realize that we thought to do that."
Bendis Tuesday August 12th, 2008 12:15:15 PM
Bendis nods. "I agree, we need to guh-go up. We can't face a foe like this alone. I suppose the only real question is who to trust? Does anyone have any suggestions of possible allies?"
Calvierius 23/28 HP Tuesday August 12th, 2008 12:28:42 PM
"I know of no-one that could be truly trusted. Anyone we know might be an agent of this .. creature .. and we'd have a hard time telling who it was. Still, it is appealing to try and beard it in its den, that is certain. At any rate, I'll follow the decisions made by you Scions."
DM Jamie Tuesday August 12th, 2008 12:49:43 PM Not sure how many posters we are up to again. I know for a while there was alot going on in each persons life.
You all stand on the edge and make the choice to take the lift going up. As it moves closer to your position you see their is someone on the lift.Jeff that is your cue He is not aware of your presence yet. He looks to be just a passenger taking the lift up. He is the only person on the lift and their is no cargo going up.
Do you jump down and suprise him or do you wait, announce yourself, and then jump over?
GiGiHp 22/23, AC 17 Tuesday August 12th, 2008 7:04:16 PM
Looking "down" at the small people below and the swaying lifts, Gigi shudders. "You know perhaps we can just go upward from here without using the lift."
Zita Tuesday August 12th, 2008 7:30:23 PM
Glancing to the lift as it fast approaches she notices the single figure and shrugs her shoulder, most likely loosening up. "Lets just take the lift if it is going to be the easiest." She does not feel like climbing and she is not sure how else they can reach the top. "We also have a single passenger on this one to be worried about." Though she does not really need to, she points to the lone figure.
With a nod to the others, unless they come up with a better plan first...she will jump over to the lift. Her hands will stay near her weapons though she will dip into a bow. "Goodday traveler." Otherwise she will not bother to reply or jump over yet, but hear out the ideas.
Picci Tuesday August 12th, 2008 10:45:37 PM
Picci peers at the person on the lift, smiling a bit hesitantly.
How do you live in a Wold where you can't trust? The vertically-challenged girl can almost feel the flood of hopelessness attempt to drown out her faith in her fellow Woldians, but she squares her shoulders against the spirit-sapping tide. Somehow, some way, she and her family would prevail.
Dextre Wednesday August 13th, 2008 9:51:52 AM
The figure on the lift is a rather tall and skinny sort of fellow. He is clearly a human male, standing just over six feet tall, but he has the looks of a gangy youth with long arms and long legs. His hair is jet black and he looks about, seeming to take everything in around him.
DM Jamie Wednesday August 13th, 2008 12:46:47 PM OC: Who is Dextre? Jim if that is you did you change something on your CS?
I will get in my post during my lunch hour (in 1 hour 15 minutes)
DM Jamie Wednesday August 13th, 2008 2:11:39 PM OOC: I have to appologize for a minute. Right now I guess I am having difficulties and got two names confused. We have a new player Jim and a new player Jeff. Both of them are on the lift. I see that Jeff is posting (please send me a CS jamie.harwick at gmail.com and Jim please post.
As the lift gets closer you now notice a smaller humanoid off to the side resting against the railing. Zita lunges down and off to the side placing herself in front of both passengers. She lands with great pizzah and startles both riders. Bowing she introduces herself.
The other party members look at her landing and wait on the ledge to see what will transpire.
You have at most 2 more actions before you can no longer make it onto the lift
Calvierius 23/28 HP Wednesday August 13th, 2008 4:01:30 PM
After seeing Zita leap onto the rising lift, Calvierius follows suit. "Well, in for a little - in for a lot, eh? I'm Calvierius", he says by way of introduction, "and we'll have a little chat soon. Right now, I'm a little busy worrying that you might be hostile."
Calvierius readies his axe and prepares to defend himself from the two newcomers.
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet d20+6=21 ; d20+1=5 ; Wednesday August 13th, 2008 10:17:41 PM
Rosario jumps down and lands solidly, [jump 21]. Just under 6' and shy of 200 pounds, his short ragged brown hair is in a mat on his head not having been groomed or washed in some time. He wears a chainshirt with a bastard sword on his left and a longbow slung over his right shoulder. The young man in his late teens keeps a stoic face and his eyes move over the pair on the lift rapidly, pausing breifly at weapons they may have. Apparently writing the duo off as nonthreatening he takes a small step back to get a better look upwards and brings his hands up to shield his eyes, but can make out very little. [spot5]
Zita Wednesday August 13th, 2008 11:02:31 PM
Glancing to the smaller of the two she gives him the same bow and nod of her head. She is already moving off to the side and out of the way of the others...it would not be a good idea to be pushed off. Though she figures that she might have a lot of time to think before she hit the ground...it was tempting.
She does glance to Cal and Rosario as the land near her. Though she shakes her head at Cal, but figures that since she has her hands on her own weapons...she is not better. She lets out a slightly strained laugh and runs her left hand through her coppery red hair. "Might want to make a little more room...friends will be joining us." She does not bother to elaborate more but moves to stand near the railing but giving herself room if trouble starts.

Giovanni Wednesday August 13th, 2008 11:52:27 PM
Startled at the sudden appearance of the newcomers to the lift and then the readied axe and menacing look from the human warrior, Giovanni raises his hands and says quickly, "Hey, hey, no need for the axe, really, not needed at all." Then looking at the other human that had ridden up with him, "Except maybe on him, I don't know him, never seen him before he got on this lift, he could be an assassin for all I know." Then making a motion not to chop him in two, the elegantly dressed halfling produces a sealed letter he had tucked in his belt for this precisse moment. "I have a letter of introduction from Dahlia Lightfingers, she said you might need some help and well, I'm here to help. My name if Giovanni Thornhill, bard by profession." Producing his best smile, he hoped his charm and the letter would save his bacon, of course if he was wrong and these were not the people he had been sent to help, he was toast. Ah toast, and bacon, yes. Giovanni's eyes glazed a little at the thought of food, he hadn't eaten lately, and the thought of a BLT on toast started to make his mind wander.

Gigi Glares at Zita as she leaps aboard the lift and then taking a deep breath and sending a prayer toward Domi, leaps aboard himself managing it with much more grace than his exit off the last one, Brushing himself off as he moves up next to Zita, the scarred young man peruses the two other occupants.
Dextre Thursday August 14th, 2008 9:48:37 AM
The taller man steps back nimbly in surprise at the dropping in of people. His hand instinctively reaches to the rapier at his side as he takes up a defensive position. He does not draw it, but watches at the others drop into place.
When Giovanni gestures towards him and mentions being an assassin, he replies nervously, "Assassin? Me? Oh, please!" He regains his composure when he sees that he hasn't been attacked yet. He takes his hand off his rapier and hold it out in greeting, "I'm Dextre. I don't have any fancy letter of introduction or anything. I'm..." he pauses a moment, then continues, "an entertainer. And I'm currently, well, between entertaining positions at the moment."
DM Jamie Thursday August 14th, 2008 1:05:47 PM
The platform sways slightly as the party jumps onto the platform. Some make it look easy... others not so easy, but everyone makes it without falling off the edge. Looking up above you see you still have a bit of a ride to the top. Looking down you see it is a real long drop.
The wind fluctuates from time to time. Sometimes it is a light breeze, sometimes you feel like you need to grab the railing, sometimes nothing at all. It is difficult to enjoy the sun and feeling of being outside when you feel like someone is watching you.
A large crow lands on the railing and looks. Almost as if he is waiting for something. Caw...Caw...
Giovanni Thursday August 14th, 2008 4:44:02 PM
Snapped out of his bacon reverie by the strangers admission of his profession, "An entertainer?" Giovanni refutes. "I've never seen you around and I've played some of the finer establishments." Then the spry halfling thought about it and the way the man was dressed. "Oh, I see. You're a male prostitute."
Giovanni Thursday August 14th, 2008 4:52:48 PM
hmmm...
Zita Thursday August 14th, 2008 8:12:44 PM
Zita brings her free hand to cover her mouth as she stifles the laughter that threatens to break out. The fencing by the two before her is rather funny and though she can keep herself from laughing out loud...she cannot keep the laughter out of her eyes.
Glancing to Rosario she rolls her eyes and then goes back to looking over these two newcomers with a little more interest. She lets her eyes sweep the short one with a little more interest. "You say a letter from a Dahlia....and who would it be that you are searching for?" Her face does not twitch in anyway as she keeps tight reign upon her emotions now. She has seen no reason to stop them from fencing as of yet, though she does glance to the crow that has landed with some obvious distaste. "This belong to one of you?" Her statement is put force with just enough force that it would tell anyone that she is not really asking....but demanding an answer.
Her eyes flick between Gigi, Rosario and Cal...seeing as they might be the best for this. It is simple directions that can be passed without too much attention being drawn. If this bird does not belong to one of them or to their group...KILL IT.
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet d20+1=13 ; Thursday August 14th, 2008 8:58:47 PM
Rosario looks down, nothing above but the sky and the ride to the top. "I am Roasrio." It is stated with a plain enough voice and Rosario takes the letter. A claim to know Dahlia, or more to the point a Wold renown hero. Rosario humphs slightly. Boastful bards, he had seen many such individuals and personally did not like them too much. A great deal of, I'm the best look at me and did I mention how great I am and that I know this person and that person in thier nature for his taste. Rosario, cracks any seal that may be on the letter and opens it to read.
Catching Zita's eyes his own move sideways to keep the crow in view as he awaits the answer from them first. then he would act or address what he just read.
Giovanni Thursday August 14th, 2008 9:58:48 PM
"Roasrio?" Giovanni stifles a small laugh, "Ro..Ass...Rio, right? That's a very unusual name, you must know Dextre then."
Giovanni Thursday August 14th, 2008 10:05:44 PM
"Oh, pardon. The letter is addressed to Zita Montdidier, you must be him, since you took the letter." Giovanni smiled and waited. What would it be, a threat with a sword, a backhand, no, it would be an attempted downward hammer blow to the noggin. Yes, he was sure the rather brusk warrior would resor to that, unless he didn't want to come off as a bully in front of the women, yes, he might be one of those. Giovanni continued to smile, he was enjoying himself, but he knew everntually he would step too hard on someone's toes. he had the heart of a clown and that meant he would undoubtedly say something wrong at the wrong time to the wrong person. Maybe that time was now.
Dextre Friday August 15th, 2008 10:29:29 AM
When Giovanni addresses him, Dextre replies, "You haven't... a what?" He mumbles an aside, "Sounds like someone might be experienced with such people." He quickly continues, "The crow? Indeed, it's not mine. Filthy beasts, they are."
When Roasrio introduces himself, Dextre bows and says, "Pleased to meet you."
As Giovanni continues, Dextre takes a step back to give a bit of room to Giovanni and Roasrio. He has seen fights break out for less, and he had no interest in being involved in one just yet. Unconsciously, his hand wanders slightly under the folks of his flowing tunic.

DM Jamie d20=2 ; Friday August 15th, 2008 4:19:39 PM I had to stop reading for a while and get up from the computer. Funny stuff.
With the conversation going on between the players the crow does not see the double attack coming and is swiftly sliced in half and then fourths befroe it falls over the edge and cascades downwards along with its entrails. This maybe leaves a few of you wondering what they are going to see at the bottom.
You also, having been talking back and forth, do not realize how close you are to the top until you begin to hear the noise of voices coming from above. You look up and see that you are approaching the top of the Plateau. Jamie here again... If something is wrong with the description of the Plateau please correct me. I am reading up on it and there is alot of info to digest.
From here where do you go? Who do you talk to? What will you do next?
Giovanni Friday August 15th, 2008 5:02:55 PM
Giovanni was amazed, here stood two stone cold...raven killers. He could see it in their eyes and returned their looks with a quizzical one as if somehow he just didn't understand what there was to take pride in from killing a helpless raven. "Um, all kidding aside, brave and mighty killers of fowl, if you are in need of my services, I'm here to help and it looks like we might be entering an area of danger up above. I still don't know who this guy is," the now serious looking halfling motioned to Dextre, "but he's not my worry." Giovanni pulled out his light crossbow, which was much smaller than the norm, and readied it for quick use. "Just in case."
Zita Friday August 15th, 2008 8:02:10 PM
Zita flicker her hair back and wondered if this guy was blind. She knew that she dressed and acted like a tomboy, but she did not have the outwards appearance of a boy just entering into his manhood. Glancing with satisfaction at the sudden annihilation of the crow she nods her head, though she has taken no letter yet and has not even admitted to being this Zita person. "I have heard of this Zita you talk about...but the last time I saw her...she was very much a female." There is no hint in her voice of any problems and she sighs as this is getting them nowhere and with the protection around her she was not worried.
She holds out her hand with a justified frown. "I am Zita...though I would suggest you keep my last name to yourself." Taking the letter she will read it over as she waits for the lift to reach the top...they really have no choice. She nods to the others. "Keep on guard and get ready to move once we reach the top...cover first and then..." She simply shrugs as she has figured that far in advance.
Giovanni Saturday August 16th, 2008 12:54:24 AM
"Oh, my pardon my fair lady, I was not addressing you, I was addressing him." Giovanni pointed at Rosario, "I assumed he was Zita Montdidier since he took the letter and opened to read it. I should have known you would have a lackey to check such things for traps and the such. My sincerest regrets mi'lady for you are truly fair to the eye and one would have to be deaf, dumb and blind to mistake you for anything other than a lady most fair." Giovanni bowed gracefully.
Dextre Monday August 18th, 2008 7:36:20 AM
Dextre thinks to himself, "These are some quite violent people. And yet this one calling himself Giovanni continues to taunt them. I think he may find himself quite dead rather quickly."
Dextre takes another step back away from Giovanni to be out of combat range and then looks up to see what he can see about where they are about to arrive. When Zita mentions cover, he shrugs and the bow on his back slides so the grip is where he can quickly grab it. He reaches a hand up and touches the fletching of an arrow in the quiver, checking to be sure they are ready should he need one.
Bendis Monday August 18th, 2008 7:54:43 AM
The potbellied dwarf who had landed awkwardly on the platform just after the others finally gets up, wincing as he puts weight on his ankle. "Ow! Bother! I ruh-really wish we could stop leaping about fuh-for five minutes."
"Um, hello" he smiles at the two newcomers, straightening his spectacles and peering at them short-sightedly. "The name's Bendis." He glances at Zita and Rosario, unsure of how much he should say. "Nice to meet you."
He looks up and sees the top of the Plateau fast approaching. "Um, fellows, I hear voices up there" he murmurs."
Apologies folks, the combination of a transatlantic flight, murderous jetlag and a wedding in the past few days knocked my posting for six. I'm back now though. Hi Jim and Jeff!
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Monday August 18th, 2008 12:25:03 PM
Rosario ignores the halfling completely and continues to read the letter. He then hands it to Zita to read. To the others on the lift, "Let's put the weapons away though friends." he says calmly, "we don't need to make a grand entrance and attract a bunch of attention. People come up the lifts all the time, what they don't do is come up ready for battle"
He glances up to the approaching top side and then, without looking at him, "You're errand is done Giovanni, You're dismissed." He flicks a silver coin at him absently.
Giovanni Monday August 18th, 2008 2:37:43 PM
Giovanni deftly caught the silver coin and pocketed it quickly whilst giving the donor a quizzical look. "Ah, I see." The halfing said a moment later. "You can't read? When I said it was a letter of introduction, it was a letter introducing me to the group, not a letter saying something like, "Hey, how ya doing Rosario you big piece of man-meat." If you could read you would have discerned that from the letter. No matter, doesn't make you any less intelligent, just ignorant." Giovanni smiled.
Calvierius 23/28 HP Monday August 18th, 2008 2:38:27 PM

I'm going to be spotty for a week- I'm traveling. I have Internet thru the iPhone, but my posts will be a little light on RP. That's okay, as calv is pretty tight-lipped.
DM Jamie Monday August 18th, 2008 3:08:34 PM
OOC: Just a quick note to start off with. Let's all remember we are friends here. When I am having a bad moment at work I just think of you guys' commentary. :)
The lift comes to a halt. You are all staring at a group of people. They are assorted humanoids who are waiting to take the lift down. You can't help but look back over where you have come from and gasp at the view. It seems like you are on the top of the Wold and can see for hundreds of miles. You almost think you could see the Southern continent from here if you so chose. You spin back around looking over the top of the plateau and see Plateau city in all its wonder and glory. It could be one of the wonders of the Wold as far as your concerned.
As you pass each other getting off the lift one of the men bumps into you and a box he was carrying falls to the ground and opens. Out rolls a very ornate mask. He grasps for it desparately, but misses it just as it spills off the edge of the lift, tumbling on its way to oblivion.
The man comes upright and begins to turn a shade of red as he turns back towards the party. "I had to have that comissioned for Mask Day. Now what am I to do. It was guarunteed to help me not get selected." Tears begin to fill his eyes as he storms to the lift and waits for it to lower. He continues to mumble to himself and is unconsolable if anyone tries to approach. All you can make out is 10,000 gp was the cost of the mask.
Where to first? Check out the foreign square? the dragon towers? one of the many temples?
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Monday August 18th, 2008 5:24:08 PM
Rosario sighs slightly and turns to the the halfling. "You continue speaking as if any within the sound of your voice cares to hear it. Your attempt to provoke me into killing you will likely succeed at some point as there are certain things you could say or do that will grant you the reaction you are looking and I am not above killing a person of lower station than myself. Your grandest mistake thus far has been that we want you to stay. I have looked over the letter, it seems genuine from other writings I know the author to have penned but it does not change anything. The answer is no, the silver was for your trouble. Good day." His tone as if speaking to a child that continually asks the same question, simple exhausted resignation that he feels compelled to sink to speaking at this time.
Rosario turns and starts moving off the lift.
The bump into the man elicits a slight apology, but does not slow Roy overso as he gestures with his head in the general direction of left with a non comment of "Let's move out of the way before chossing a destination eh friends?"
Giovanni Monday August 18th, 2008 5:48:35 PM
Whatever Rosario had to say had fallen on deaf ears, Giovanni was precariously perched on the edge of the cliff casting a spell to retrieve the fallen mask. "Ready a rope, I may have need of it."

Gigi, watching the show between Giovanni and Rossario elicits a bit of a smile, remembering just how stubborn Rosario can be on occassion when something or someone rubs him the wrong way. Giving Zita a look with a slight roll of the eyes, as if to say it is now going to be up to you to smooth this one out if the new guy is to saty, he steps off the lift and sees the mask shoot toward the cliff, but has absolutely no opportunity to even attempt a rescue before if goes flying over the edge. reaction roll 7 Moving off to the side Gigi carefully watches the gathered crew for anyone/thing suspicious.spot 14
Zita Monday August 18th, 2008 10:30:39 PM
Zita takes the letter and reads it over, not once but twice before she stows it away in a pouch at her waist. She glances over both of the arrivals and shrugs her shoulders again. It might just be to loosen her muscles or it could be a helpless gesture at Rosario's actions.
As the lift reaches the top and they start to move off she watches the mask slip away and over the side. She can see the man's pain written on her face but she cannot bring herself to feel too sorry for him. Glancing to the others that have or are attempting to help with a simple nod of her head. Her hand reaches out and gently graps the shoulder of Rosario. Her eyes speak volumnes more than her words and she nods to Giovanni. "We cannot afford to turn away potential allies...you said it yourself earlier." Her voice is pitched so that only he should be able to hear her, though those closer will also be able to hear her as well.
Glancing back to the actions of Giovanni she lets her hand slip away from Rosario's shoulder and she starts to pull off the rope attached to her pack. With a glance to the others she nods her head and motions her free hand to guard her back. "Cal...I could use your strength." When Giovanni is ready and Cal reaches her she will toss the rope over the side so that it will be ready for Giovanni.

"Zita..." Picci says to the redhead in a low voice, "...I think I have an idea of where we may go...how about the Big Float...?"
Giovanni Monday August 18th, 2008 11:28:48 PM
"I'm away!" Giovanni yells and jumps off the cliff, arms and legs outstretched. Like a rock he falls, straight towards the mask and reaches out with a spell and snags it, bringing it rather suddenly into his grip, or perhaps his body was brought closer to the mask since he was falling rapidly. A quick word of power and he stopped momentarily in mid air and began to gently float downwards, but just as quick he reached out with his mage hand spell and reached out for the rope the fair Zita was readying.
Bendis Tuesday August 19th, 2008 6:15:28 AM
"Nuh-now fellows, please, don't fight" the dwarf admonishesGiovanni and Rosario. "There are enemies enough without creating new ones."
He watches the mask fall with a shudder. It just reminds him of that precipitous drop. Who in their right mind would build a city way up here?
"Ye Gods!" yelps Bendis as Giovanni makes his daredevil leap. His stomach heaving he forces himself to look over the edge. Has their newfound companion hurled himself to his death?

Rosario stops as Zita whispers to him and he glances a short look back at the halfling. "I was wrong." Rosario moves a bit off from the lift and keeps his eys scanning the now likely unwanted crowd and attention. So much for simply slipping in, twice damned halfling couldn't cause a greater scene if he tried. Rosario tries to keep his breathing under control and his hands steady and consciously away from his weapon. Was it wrong to secretly wish the spell to fail? It certainly would make his life easier. Things were bad enough, he did not need the added stress. Rosario needed someone to talk to before he talked himself into complete paranoia.
"Picci. The Float? Can we pull that off, getting there I mean? I do like the idea of sliding right under the overlords nose, but we are a bit cash strapped."

DM Jamie Tuesday August 19th, 2008 2:24:05 PM I appologize for not letting everyone post. Tuesdays are very busy for me and I will try to post as close to 1200 local as possible
Everything seems to happen at once. The box falls and the mask rolls. GiGi tries for it, but is not near quick enough. Giovanni tries and misses as well, but he goes the extra mile. In an act of heroism or stupidity he leaps over the edge of the lift and freefalls after the mask. The man, who had begun to blubber to himself, seems to have done a complete 180 and is now cheering on the little halfling.
The crowd has begun to cheer him on as well. Although you can't tell if they just wanted the little man to jump or really recover the mask.
At about 80 feet the halfling grasps the mask and is able to get out his command words to come to a slow drift down. As he slows, a rope drops from above, being held by Zita, Calvierius, and Dextre.
Bendis and GiGi are now watching the crowd gathering arounf the lift. You overhear peaople talking about the heroism the little man exudes. His dedication to the people. His willingness to help others. After listening to him on the lift you almost smile...
Picci and Rosario exchange an idea about the float while Giovanni is pulled back up to safety.
As Giovanni crests the railing the man rushes over and picks up Giovanni and gives him a big hug. "Oh, thank the gods. You are truely a hero to me and my family today. I don't know what would have happened if this had been lost." He sets down Giovanni and helps straighten his clothing.
"You see it was very expensive and I travel with it since I am back and forth between the float. I don't want to get caught there during Mask day and be forced to pick up some cheap imitation of everyone elses mask that would not offer me any protection and I have a family to think about. How can I ever repay you and your friends for this act of heroism?"
Giovanni Tuesday August 19th, 2008 3:44:54 PM
"It's quite alright, I wasn't trying to be a hero." Giovanni said as he handed back the mask to it's owner. "In fact I daresay it was my fault that the mask fell over the cliff. I was verbally sparring with my traveling companion," Giovanni motioned over to Rosario, "and distracted him and the others to the point where we accidently bumped into you. I felt it was my responsibilty to retrieve the mask, such a work of art it is." Giovanni smiled and brushed himself off before continuing, "but if you feel you must repay us, well, I have to admit, jumping off a cliff does make one a bit thirsty and hungry and I'd really like to know more about the Float and this Mask day you speak of?"

The dark-haired female smiles in a slightly-embarrassed manner.
"I was thinking along the lines of a bit of wisdom that says 'keep your friends close, but your enemies closer'," she admits a bit sheepishly, "I forgot that we would actually have to pay somebody to transport us there...perhaps there's some way of getting ourselves hired on to a caravan or other such operation that needs extra help to transport goods to that city..?"
Bendis Wednesday August 20th, 2008 6:20:00 AM
The portly dwarf shakes his head. "I cuh-can't believe you did that" he splutters to the daredevil halfling. "That's the craziest thing I ever saw! Actually, thinking about recent events, maybe not. But still, cuh-crazy!"
Bendis looks up at his companions. "Yuh-you want to travel to Floating City and face the Overlord? Even if we could get there, wouldn't that just show our hand and get us thrown in jail? I thought we were going to look for allies in Plateau City? Not that you aren't a great help" he hastily adds to the newcomer(s).

As the group reaches the top and Giovanni makes his heroic dive, Dextre steps back with the crowd and watches. He does his best to appear to not to be part of the group that's with Giovanni while looking around the crowd for anyone who seems to be out of place. He even asks a few people if they've seen that hero before.

DM Jamie Wednesday August 20th, 2008 4:01:28 PM You guys make me a little self conscious when half of you don't post. I am going to assume it is RL issues and not me.
As the spectacle is over with people begin to disperse almost as soon as they appeared. Dextre, as you mingle through the crowd you believe you are able to do it with no problems. You find a group of men talking about the incident and make your way into their conversation by asking, "Anyone seen that hero before?" The men stop for a minute and look over at you.
"You know we were just asking ourselves that very question." The older one says, "You know, back in my day if you didn't give out your name or let people know who you were it was considered impolite, but I guess young people don't have enough common courtesy anymore." He spits on the ground to place emphasis on his point. "We don't recognize him or any of the others. Seems like a bunch of kids out screwin around if you ask me." With that he turns to walk off and the others seem to break off in their directions as well. You did notice that at its peak there were about 100 people. And they ranged from rich to poor/common to noble.
Giovanni, the man extends a hand towards you and in a deep baratone that would make a wolverine pur says, "I am Bruce, only Bruce." Looking him over he is of average height (about 5'9") and looks to be portly. He wears colorful clothing and has a beard that is kept trim. His brown hair frames his face that has many wrinkles, but you think they are laugh lines from the way he carries himself. He has striking light blue eyes. Almost white. After shaking your hand he says, "I must take you and your friends out for a grand meal this evening. I am not wealthy by any means, but I do rather well. People need items securely and discreetly delivered to the Float all the time. None of this teleportation nonsense for them."
He turns to one of the men who were with him and it is now clear he is an assistant of some type, "Howard, this is the kind of person I want you to be. Willing to jump off the lift like this young man. Oh, if only you would jump." Turning back to Giovanni he says in a lowered tone, "My cousins youngest. Well, cousin 7 times removed, but family is family. Really does try." Turning back he says, "You are learning though and we have to keep extending your trial period when things like this happen."
"I now have a reason to stay for another day. Oh, blessed Domi. Howard, remind me to take a trip there tonite to make a donation." He turns back to the party, "You will all be my guests tonite at the Blue Ale Tavern in the Gold Quarter. I will go and make the arrangements and we can talk then."
"Howard," he says over his shoulder," ensure they have directions and make the reservations. I am going to the hotel to recheck in. Tonite make sure they give us their best table and that we get the 7 course meal."
With that he turns and walks away. Howard walk up to you and hands you a written note with directions to the Blue Ale Tavern. "I also have a pass for you should anyone stop you to find out why you would be in the Gold Quarter." He says. His voice is very nasally. With that he excuses himself to go make the arrangements for the evening.
Zita Wednesday August 20th, 2008 6:05:51 PM
Zita is busy coiling back up the length of rope she had used earlier and is only half paying attention to things around her. She does catch enough of it to make herself snort, one of those unladylike habits that she has. Glancing to Rosario she shakes her head and mouths a simple sorry.
If she thought she could get away with it, she would move out right now and leave this all behind. She would have rather gotten into the city a more discreet way and not drawn this much attention to herself. She moves over to stand near both Rosario and Gigi, watching with a disapproving frown at the displays that are going around. "Friend or foe...I would rather keep him close...less to worry about." The next is growled through clenched jaws but she still gets it out. "We may have to inform our friend though that we are sort of in hiding and that he should be careful of what he asks for." If anyone so much as suggests going to Floating City again she will throttle them herself. There is fire dancing in her eyes and you might get that sinking feeling that her temperment is going to change or already has, to match her hair.
Oh the troubles of being with a redhead. That and the fact that at times Zita can be like a flipped switch.

Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Wednesday August 20th, 2008 9:41:56 PM
Rosario replies to Gigi and Bendis, "I was not thinking of confrontation. That would be suicidal. Just slipping in thre and laying low to hear what we could, but Zita is probably right and staying away from that particular location for now is a good thing to do." Seeing Zita mouth the apology Rosario shrugs and returns a small smile. He did not believe the halfling a threat in any way save ignorance in drawing unwanted attention to them. That could be corrected, but now they had to go to Gold Quarter and a very public meal. On top of that, this escapade was sure to spread about. Only good thing was the halfling was the center of it and so would follow any descriptions of the event. His sister and other surviving family were not known to be in a halflings company, and so hopefully ther would be no link to them in Plateau city.
Bruce's comments about moving things off the beaten path made him nervous. It was simply agianst his nature, how he was raised. Was this what it would come to? Consorting with smugglers and low life rogues? Father, oh gods his father how he must be disgusted to see such a possibility laid before his son. Vendetta or not, it was repulsive and his stomach turned slightly as his mind continued to entertain the thoughts. Trying to distract himself, "Let's get going and find accomodations." With a nod of acknowledgment he takes the pass from Howard and tucks it into his tunic.
Picci Wednesday August 20th, 2008 11:24:49 PM
Picci nods agreement with Rosario's reasoning.
"I didn't mean that we should go face the Overlord...only that we could...well...watch him...sort of..." Her voice trails off as she contemplates the ramifications of what she's saying.
"Umm...never mind."
Giovanni Wednesday August 20th, 2008 11:56:23 PM
"Many thanks to you Mr. Bruce." Giovanni says with a proper bow as the portly man walks away. "Thank you Mr. Howard." As his assistant hands him the directions to the tavern, and then again as he hands him the pass. Curiously the spry halflings hand traveled not of it's own accord as it remained latched onto the pass as it traveled from Howards hand to Giovanni's hand and then into Rosario's tunic. Standing there with his hand inside Rosario's tunic was a bit awkward. Lettng out a slight cough, he removed his hand from the man's tunic, along with the pass and placed it into his own tunic.
Smiling slightly, perhaps to fill the void of silence after the tunic incident, Giovanni asked in almost a whisper to Zita, "Say, are we supposed to be on the lamb, or incognito, or something like that? With everyone in the group looking out for something, it makes us all look a little suspicious. Kinda like a bunch of shoplifters, you know, when a shoplifters going to steal something, he looks up to see if someone is watching him. Sure sign he's up to something and I couldn't help but notice after my little rescue of the mask, that's what happened here. Is there something I should know about since I'm staying with the group?"
Bendis Thursday August 21st, 2008 5:30:58 AM
Bendis looks at the ground, not sure what to say in reply to Giovanni.
"I suppose your letter of introduction means we should tuh-trust you. Though for your own sake you'd be far better forgetting you ever muh-met us. But this is not the place; we need to find lodgings, somewhere private to discuss this. What do you think, fellows?"
Dextre Thursday August 21st, 2008 8:06:22 AM
Dextre nods at the men in the crowd in agreement and spits after them. "Right." he says. As they walk away, he mumbles loud enough for them to hear, "Inconsiderates. What's the Wold coming to?" He meanders his way back to the group as the man berates his charge. His eyes light up at the mention of a seven course meal and Rosario hears a loud rumbling from just behind him -- where he sees Dextre standing and smiling rather sheepishly.
Giovanni Thursday August 21st, 2008 12:09:10 PM
"Hmm, right, right." Says Giovanni in reply to Bendis' suggestion while tapping the side of his nose with his finger, then pointing at the dwarf. Looking over at Dextre, he asks of the group, but not too loudly, "What about him? He seems to have latched onto us, perhaps seeking a free meal or two, but he has no letter of introduction, nor has he even asked to join the group, he's just... here. And I just met him at the bottom of the lift, so I have nothing to vouch for him."

As the crowd vacates the area you all have a chance to loosly gather. Looking around none of you see anyone of note. You just saw a large gathering of people that crossed all economic and socionomic lines. Between all of you sharing with each other you do come to the ending that most of the attention was on Giovanni.
Looking over the pass you see that on one end their are dirctions and a quick note with a seal placed at the bottom saying you are guests of the Bruce and you are to be left alone. On the backside it seems to be some kind of oversized business card. Seems the Bruce runs a company called "Woldwide deliveries". Their tag line is "When a teleport can't be trusted, you call we haul." The card goes on to say that they deliver anything anywhere as long as the price is right and they always make their delivery time. Never lost a delivery either. They make regular movements between the Float and Plateau city.
Discussion is made about finding lodging and the questions of Dextre's loyalties and if he is even a part of the group are brought up. And they are brought up by none other than the other new guy Giovanni. All come to the relization though that tonite needs to be kept low-key for the most part. Although, maybe new loyalties and contacts can be made this evening in a higher income part of town.
Okay, I want to have lodging settled by tomorrows post so that I can get in a big post about the dinner before the weekend to give you some time to think and to some small extent plan. I think you guys are doing a great job. When we are doing a normal daily post (no combat) I don't mind the multiple posts by players. It helps build comrade. Hope you are enjoying it so far.
Calvierius 23/28 HP Thursday August 21st, 2008 9:41:35 PM
Watching the commotion over the mask, Calvierius does little more than grin and say quietly, "Possessions...". Seeing his companion jump over the edge spurs him into action, however. He quickly lends his strength to the rope to pull the halfling up.
The commotion settled, he follows the group to wherever they choose to rest for the night.

"Me? Huh? I wasn't aware one needed a letter of introduction to meet new people. Then again, I'm not from around here, so perhaps I'm not up on the etiquette for such an area. Apparently," he gestures towards Giovanni, "it's perfectly acceptable to insult anyone you meet around here."
"I am an entertainer, and I am a traveler. As I mentioned before, I'm between entertainment jobs at the moment. At the same time, I am quite effective with this," he swings his shoulder to indicate his bow, "so if you're expecting trouble, I can certainly help out in that arena."
Bendis Friday August 22nd, 2008 7:45:19 AM
Bendis nods politely to Dextre. "Huh-nice to meet you sir. Though, as I say, we should really get off the street before we talk further. An inn should suffice, there are many nearby I think."
As they head off to the nearest inn Bendis whispers to Zita "What do you think? Should we trust these guys?"
OOC: Given the nature of this game (paranoia, conspiracies etc) there really should be some DM assistance with integrating new characters. The letter works OK, but bringing Dextre in is trickier. OOC we know he's the new player, but IC our characters would never just let a total stranger pitch in with them, given what they've been through and discovered. Can anyone think of a way we can fix this?
DM Jamie Friday August 22nd, 2008 8:48:08 AM I will get in a post later today. I appologize for not giving more assitance at the begining. Jumping back in the saddle. One of the premises of the characters is that they are all linked in some way to Fort Silence. Now with Giovanni we at least hace some type of letter of introduction. I suggest that Dextre email me (jamie.harwickATgmail.com) and we work out something for Monday's post. We will just have to introduce it and consider it having been introduced when he first met. If anyone has heartache with that please feel free to email some other suggestions as well.
-Carl- No critisism to you Jaime, I know how hard it is jumping into a game and getting up to speed. Just thought I'd mention it to ensure we don't chase off poor Dextre!
-Jamie- No worries Carl. I didn't take it that way. We will get it all resolved by Monday. Thanks.
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Friday August 22nd, 2008 11:11:30 AM
Rosario drops Giovanni as the halfling holds onto the note and answers his remark on Dextre, "Don't worry about him." Rosario then adresses everyone else, "Let's move to the Dragon quarter and find a couple rooms. Place is crawling with adventurers, no one will take any note of a few more that seem to fit that description."
Rosario leads the group through the streets towards the northern section of the city. (not sure precisely where we came up) And eventually into Adventurer's Square where Adventurers are catered to in most every way and means. Statues of current Dragon Consortium Groups fill the square as stores by the dozen surround it selling everything an adventurer might ever want or require.
Some of these stores include Insignias by Polo, Moneychanging by Gayley, Grubb and Chub Supplies, Sally's Petite Armor, Waldo's Armor, Tuff Stuff for the Barbarian, Paso's Headgear, Jehosephat's Rare and Ancient Emporium, Puula's Components, Krall's Axes, Poles by Shook, Slade's Blades, Sticks and Stones, and many others.
The area is full of inns and taverns as well, which is where the young man directs his lead of the group.
Giovanni Friday August 22nd, 2008 12:34:56 PM
Had Giovanni heard that right? "I'm not from around here" is what Dextre said, the halfling thought to himself. Yes, he had said it, now Gio was more certain than not that the man was an assassin, perhaps even a doppleganger. The style of his dress, his manner, he was hiding something, something sinister. Gio had been warned by Dahlia Lightfingers to trust no one and this man before him, well, he did not trust. He would have to keep an eye out for him and see if he could actually be an entertainer as he had claimed.
As for insulting everyone, another attempt by the supposed entertainer to divert attention off of him and concentrate it on the halfling. Clever, but transparent at the same time. Gio was a little shocked to see Rosario accept him so easily, but then again, he had not impressed Gio when they first met. The halfling hadn't said anything to offend Rosario when they first met, but it was evident on Ro's face that he did not like the halfling. Then again it wasn't the first time he had met someone that didn't like halflings, Rosario was just a racist, like the others Gio had met at one time or another. It definitely wasn't because he was a bard, he had accepted Dextre even though he had stated he was an entertainer, so it was the halfling thing once again.
Gio sighed once as they walked and put a small smile on his face to keep his spirits up. It would be an interesting time the next few days, hopefully he wouldn't be caught with Ro alone somewhere, without the company of the women, he was sure Ro would try something. Gio sighed again, he really needed some bacon to make the blues go away.
Bacon bacon yum Heavenly luxurious The perfect food group
DM Jamie Friday August 22nd, 2008 2:41:26 PM I got a shorter than normal break today so I wanted to make sure this got in. I am going to work on Dextre's entrace this weekend and if you get the chance post with each other over the weekend and get some conversation going. Also, I know there is alot in my post. Just let me know what you did during the small amount of down time you had and we will go from there. This is the last big push I will make the rest is up to you. :) Enjoy.
You make your way to the Dragon square and the first thing that you notice is the grand and shining statues of the current Dragon group, the Emerald Dragons. Each statue is done in an almost exact likeness with highlights of the stone which is their namesake, the Emerald. It is uncanny, the feeling you get entering this portion of the city. Seeing the other groups packed into the square, either coming from or returning to an adventure. Some of those you see are not as regal as you would imagine, but are adventurers nonetheless and some of them are true heros.
After some shopping around at a few of the Inns you are able to secure a good rate at The Red Wyrm Inn. You are able to get 2 rooms for the night that are connected together by a door. Then each room has its door to the hallway. They are on the 2nd floor and towards the back of the establishment.
You all are able to unwind a bit as you get to your rooms. Undoubtedly one or two of you begin by checking the rooms for security, possible extra exits, choke points in the event of an attack, and the like. Even with your damaged spirits though it is hard to imagine someone attacking in a place like this with the plethora of adventures around that are just looking for something to legally vanquish.
The time ticks away and you each spend it in your own way. Some might go down to enjoy the entertainment, some might use it to reflect on the day, some might use it for sleep, and others might look for information. Whatever you do you do not draw attention to yourselves and it seems to those watching for it that no one is paying attention to you either.
As the hour draws near for the evening dinner you gather up and begin the walk to the Gold Quarter. This walk takes you through Gladiator Park. The sheer size of the Area dwarfs any other man made structure you have seen thus far. And the surrounding landscape is just beautiful. It is said there is an ancient magical device in the arena that keep the spectators safe from the machinations of those combating each other, but that is just what you have heard.
You finally arrive at your destination, The Blue Ale Tavern. You note that there is an increased level of security in this part of town. One can only guess it is because of the level of wealth associated with this part of town. It is a shame, though, thinking of the other areas that everyone can't receive the same level of protection throughout the city.
You are welcomed by the man at the front desk, but he seems to cringe a bit as your rag tag bunch walk in. You present the pass to him and he looks at it for a second and then snaps his fingers. A younger looking elf runs up and snaps to attention. The man says, "They are here for the Bruce party." The elf clicks his heels and motions for you all to follow him. You are taken around tables and through several rooms until you come to, what should be near the back of the building.
The room is well lit and has several large tables inside. The walls are painted a deep red and there are numerous tapestries hanging from the walls. Upon closer looking they seem to be tapestries of the different Taur races. There are a few other parties gathered through this room, but one cannot miss Bruce. He is once again dressed in a very pompus and colorful manner. You can see he has already begun eating and he motions to you with a hand glistening with chicken fat. With a half full mouth he says, "Gracious adventurers please join me at the party in your honor." There are seat enough for all to sit and their still be some extra. There are numerous plates of food strewn about the table some of the items seem rather plain for such a setting, but there are others that you have never seen before. "Please, join in. There is no need for total manners tonite, but please do not act a fool either. I don't want to be kicked out of this place too." He says with a smile.
As people begin eating he says to Giovanni, "Mask day is what you wanted to know about? I am never sure how long I will be at the Float when I travel so as Mask day approaches I like to bring mine with me in order to avoid being chosen. It is a long and dusty ceremony, but the jist of it is if you get selected you have to serve the Underlord of the city for 20 years. If you were serving him you are released." He pauses to take a drink of wine from a large goblet. "Some of the jobs you have are monitoring security and recording all of the Wold's history. Everything that has ever happened is recorded down there in the archives."
Giovanni Friday August 22nd, 2008 3:23:44 PM
Previously at the Red Wyrm Inn, Giovanni politely, privately and discreetly inquired of Zita, "So, what is it that I've gotten myself into? You lot seem to be very suspicious and I too was tasked to be very suspicious of those around me by Dahlia Lightfingers. The short of it is, I guess, is what should I know?
Zita Friday August 22nd, 2008 10:44:31 PM
Zita had made her way to the inn and let Rosario bargain for the rooms and ste them up. As they finally got to the room she did not bother to do more than drop her pack on the floor near a bed and then lean her rapier next to it as well. "Wake me in a couple of hours." She feels slightly safer now and knows that the others will be about the room checking it out.
When woken she finds that she is being watched by one of the new guys and when he finally approaches, she crosses her legs on the bed to listen to him. "Rosario...Gigi..." She motions both of them over to her spot on the bed and smiles to Gio and nods. "Your question is warranted...more so than you realize." She pulls out the letter from Dahlia and lays it open on the bed before her. "Dahlia sent you to us and though we might mistrust each other so far...you will be traveling with us." She does not bother to add what the other choice is, but it is written plain on her face...he will die otherwise and not by any monster.
Sighing she glances around the room and then to the other newcomer as well. She motions him over as well and waits for him to draw close enough to hear. "Has this room been silenced?" Glancing to those with powers that lean that was she arches her left eyebrow. If she is told no and it can be put right she will hold off till tomorrow to speak to them...in safety. "I say once again that we might not trust each other and that does not matter for right now...just know that I would rather keep you close to me...friend or foe, it is wisest to be able to watch you." Her smile tells you once again that all of them will be watching you and that future actions will dictate a lot. "Let me first say that we are hunted...by powerful enemies...surely to be killed if we make a wrong move." Her piercing green eyes watch you both intently as she lets Rosario and Gigi go about their own watching as well. "You can stop me now and know no more or get the somewhat fuller version...know this, that even if you know no more you are in danger." She allows them to digest this much and make their decision but will give them till after the party to do so.
The party comes and though not in her finest she is dressed in her more refined clothes. She fidgets as he does not like them and feels so out of her element. Though she left her rapier behind, she still has three or four daggers secreted around her person. She grimaces at the eating habits of Bruce, but it is just an instant and then her training kicks back in...thanks mom. "We shall do our best and be on our best behavior." She cuts a delicate curtsy that maybe a little rusty but still elegant. Though out of place her bearing is one of near royalty.

Rosario makes cursory walk about the room. the Dragon quarter was his choice for a reason and now that he managed to find accomadations in the actual Red Wyrm, he was feeling better about thier chances to at least remain under the radar until they chose to longer do so. An adventurers stronghold such as this area gave them plenty of heroes and those looking to become so named that would jump to thier defence without asking. Merely the chance to smite evil doers would bring them into the fray. The rooms were good, they had an adjoining door and so Rosario for the first time in several weeks at ease. he puts his pack in Zita's room and beckons Betheas and Picci to do the same. "Bendis, Calversius, Gigi, you take the other room with them." Indicating Goivanni and Dextre with a nod of is head.
Before anyone disperses Rosario says, "Anything goes wrong we fall back to this room and from there the window. Remember if you go out, keep a low profile." Rosario then pulls off his sword, bow and armor and lies down for a bit though not letting himself fall asleep, just a comfortable rest at this time.
With evening and dinner approaching, he wakes Zita. When Giovanni asks and Zita waves him and Dextre over as well Rosario is already turning his interest to the small group. Answering Zita, "Don't know if we can Duchie (pronounced Dew-gi), but I think we need to fill them in anyway. If something were going to happen it would have." Rosario then sits at the foot of the bed. His ability to read others though has never been particularly strong. [Sense motive 2] he does keep his ful attention on the pair for anything resembling a hostile move. [spot 10]
Giovanni d20+1=13 ; d20+8=11 ; Saturday August 23rd, 2008 1:48:28 AM
Earlier at the Red Wyrm Inn...Giovanni studied Zita carefully as she eluded to the unspoken threat of not traveling with the group (sense motive 13) and was not sure what to think. She didn't seem that...cold. When asked if he wished the fuller version of why they were hunted, the bard put on his best face and said, "I'm not scared, tell me everything." (bluff 11). What had he gotten himself into.
Later at the Blue Ale Tavern... "Ah, what a feast, this would make my 5 brothers, 4 sisters, parents and 32 cousins giddy with delight. Hah, more for me!" Gio tore into the food as if he hadn't eaten in weeks. "Thank the gods I was able to help you Mr. Bruce, this is most excellent, yes yes yes." Whatever it was, Gio ate it, he wasn't sure of his next meal based on what he had learned earlier in the day, so he was going to make the best out of a good meal. In between breaths, the halfling managed to squeak out a few words, those that were intelligible were, "When is Mask day?" "Are the chosen only those that happen to be in Float city, or are we in danger here?" "Mmph, good." "Bacon!!!"

Gigi, unlike Zita, keeps his sword across his back as they head to dinner, even knowing it isn't the most polite thing to do. In order to make things a bit more palatable he changes his preist vestments to clean ones and openly has his holy symbol out for all to see.
He is unsure of the two newcomers though one was aparently supposed to join them the other, who knew. That in mind Gigi purposely sits himself next to Dextre in order to find a bit more out about the young entertainer.
"So Dextre, you are an entertainer? Do you play an instrument? Sing? Do acrobatics? Story tell? Where are you recently coming from?
Bendis Monday August 25th, 2008 5:31:02 AM
The dwarf hovers nervously as the party are ushered in for the feast. He feels entirely out of place. Should he have worn something different? Where should he sit? What's the correct way to eat lobster?
He sits in silence, rather uncomfortable in these surroundings, and observes.
Dextre Monday August 25th, 2008 8:49:35 AM
When Zita sits down to address the newcomers, Dextre has a hard time supressing a smile. She continues her rather serious statements about trust, and Dextre nods, and tries, but cannot hold back a big grin. When she pauses, Dextre finally blurts out, "You really don't recognize me. You really don't, do you?"
He stands up and says, "Now?" He turns sideways. "How about now? No? Okay, how about this?" He bends a little at the waist and makes a motion with his hands. "Now pretend there's a horse right here. Does that jog your memory? No?" He sighs heavily as he looks around at everyone else. "No one? Back in Fort Silence?"
"Very well, since you're not going to get it, I'll remind you. Now I may have been a little bit shorter then, but that's no matter. Your horses? Yes, I was the one that took excellent care of your horses at Fort Silence! You may remember that your horses were rather well taken care of and may have been able to carry you a bit further the next day? Yes, that was me!"
-----
Later at the meal (where Dextre is armed, but not visibly so -- he isn't wearing his bow or arrows) when Gigi asks about his entertaining, Dextre's eyes light up as he replies, "Oh no, I can't sing at all. Not one bit. I can dance a bit, but then anyone who tries can dance some. Instead, I work with horses. I can train horses to do just about anything I can think up. I've trained some quite stubborn stallions to jump and roll and do all sorts of things with acrobats. I do like those horses." His eyes get a faraway look and you can tell he is remembering a different time and a different place...
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Monday August 25th, 2008 10:30:57 AM
Detxre starts to bounce about and Rosario's brow furrows slightly. The stable boy? His father's voice rolls through his head about the dangers of looking down at people in general and with a small chewing of his lip Rosario straightens his back and nods his head. "And so you are, apologies for not placing you sooner. The last few days have been, well taxing to say the least." Rosario continues addressing Dextre, "Then you know full well why we are cautious, but we now more fully understand to extent that our caution must take and why. Soon you will as well." With that he ocks his head in invitation for Zita to explain the story to both Dextre and Giovanni.
About an hour before the appointment with Bruce, Rosario sends a runner from the Red Wyrm to pick him up a new shirt, pants and overcoat to go over his breastplate. The young man washes his face and hair, no need to shave. Rosario will check his weapons at the door to the Blue Ale Tavern.
DM Jamie Monday August 25th, 2008 5:03:00 PM Thanks for being able to digest so much information at once. You guys are doing a great job.
The meal is exceptional and everyone is able to find something they like. The meal and light conversation continue for a while and the other patrons in the back room depart, leaving your table the only one still occupied in the back. In the distance you can still hear the low murmer of voices and music from the front rooms. When Giovanni asks about Mask Day, The Bruce smiles, chicken fat and wine running down his chin, and says, "Mask day is a great celebration everywhere else in the Wold. Now don't get me wrong, they throw a great party on the float, but if you are on the float you have a chance to get picked. The masks are a way to confuse the magic of the choice into thinking it is grabbing someone else." When asked when mask day is he says, "In several weeks, but you never know when you might get stuck on the Float, especially for someone there as often as me, so it is like insurance."
After a few more moments a slew of waiters and waitresses enter through the doors and clear the table. In their wake are left plates of sweet goodies. Every different kind of cake and cookie lays before you. "Ah Ha!," exclaims The Bruce, "Desert is served."
In between breathfulls of cookie, cake, and some wine the Bruce says, "We will make a quick trip over to the temple of Domi after this. He is my families god and we will pay him homage for the great luck that has befallen us today."

And I must say, your security is most excellent," motioning to the rafters and the concealed men there. (spot=20) "I daresay I feel previleged to have been able to help such a man of importance. Gigi is so entrenched with his food and his conversation with Dexter that he forgets to keep and eye on who all might be around and sees nothing of import. He does brighten up a bit as the visit to Domi's temple is mentioned. Yes I would very much enjoy a trip to the temple. It has been a few days since I have been able to partake of the formal group rituals that I was used to.
Zita d20+3=18 ; d20+5=7 ; Monday August 25th, 2008 10:36:04 PM
Zita had promised them that she would fill them in after the party and is keeping to that word...just in case they might change their minds. Though she did not really remember the young Dextre that much she did remember the horses and nodded her head. There were many fleeting images and she finally realizes that it is indeed him. "I owe you for several narrow escapes back at home." She takes the time to whisper this into his ear at the party as she did not have much time to say anthing back at the room.
Inside she shudders with revusion at the way this Bruce is eating and wonders if all those that think themselves noble eat this way. Still her training allows her to ignore it and enjoy herself...well at least as much as you can while under constant threat. Several times she finds herself noticing guards stationed here and there, some of them even in the rafters and it bothers her. Suddenly she feels rather naked about not carrying anything bigger than a long dagger at her waist.
She makes her way over to Rosario and gives him a smile while holding out her hand. "Care to dance." To anyone else this would seem a normal request, but for those that know her...it is not normal. As she falls into well practiced steps she laughs and leans in a little closer to him, mouth near his ear. "Have you noticed the security?" She does not say more as she keeps dancing for a few minutes more and then lets Rosario go with a bow.

Dextre joins in the food and eats quite a large amount for his size. He is not nearly as messy as The Bruce, but there are various piles of crumbs and remains of food near his seat. When the desserts arrive, his eyes just get wider and he helps himself to large portions of the cakes, not noticing much of anything else going on (Spot 12).
Bendis d20+2=11 ; Tuesday August 26th, 2008 10:24:10 AM
Bendis does the only thing he can to overcome his nerves; he eats. Fortunately eating is something he is rather good at; slowly but steadily a growing space around Bendis is emptied of food, and there seems little prospect of the gastronomic assault ending anytime soon.
So engrossed is the portly dwarf in his mission of consumption that he notices nothing beyond the next plate of pulled pork.

Calvierius eats carefully, almost prissily, working precisely around his plate - first the vegetables, then the potatoes, then finally the (cold by then) meat. By the time he's done eating, he has drank about half his glass of wine. The remainder, he leaves untouched for the night.
His eyes take in the people, new acquaintances and old, as he listens intently to their banter. Occasionally, he smiles or laughs at a quip, but he hardly says three words together the whole evening.

Zita approaches and Rosario knows his sister. Something is wrong. He smiles trying to hold a pleasant every day look upon his face, "I would be delighted."
Rosario knows some basics and steps with his sister, "what is wrong?" "Security? No i had not" Blast I should have. Feeding your face and paying too much attention to the man in front of you. Rosario puts his older brothers admonishing voice from his head.
"He has some other motive, this Bruce. Gods lets hope everone keeps thier fool mouths shut for once." "I do not like the idea of the trip to the temple, but I don't see how we can say no without coming off very suspiciously."

The Bruce leans back in his chair at Giovanni's comment. "Yes, I like to keep myself and my guests safe. You never can be too careful when you worry about what is in the shadows." He leans back forward for his goblet. He takes a drink and then stands, "I appreciate you coming to my little gathering in your honor tonite. It is always nice to meet young people willing to help becasue you never know who they might be when the grow up."

Howard walks out though the door. Spot check DC 18 Highlight to display spoiler: {You see him raise his hand and ever so slightly tap his right earlobe.}
The Bruce gets up and begins to make his way out as well. He motions for you to follow. Although he looks heavy he seems to have no problem moving about and making his way through the tables. His balance and motion demonstrate a dextrousnes about him that you would not expect.
The evening air is perfect although you can smell a bit of moisture in the air, which may mean rain later on. The night has a bit of an overcast, but the moon and some of the brighter stars can be seen through the clouds. The street lights cast just enough light to see clearly, but not enogh to illuminate all of the shadows. Yet, the Bruce walks with no worry, as is shown in his manner and in his talk. He slows his pace for those that might not be able to keep up as he continues to talk about nothing in particular. Just opinions on government, gods, and the wold in general.
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet d20+1=7 ; Tuesday August 26th, 2008 6:41:20 PM
The Bruce has money, and lots of it. He's no noble, but he may be the groups best chance to obtain a good benefactor. There is no reason for him to know all about them, though Rosario does not kid himself about the man's ability to find out. Money could accomplish such things and rosario suspected Bruce had more than one unsavory tie. So he would very soon if not already know who they were. The secret would be a much grander trick. So really it simply came to a point of allowing this man to put himself in grave danger unknowingly so that Rosario and Zita could continue to move agaisnt these creatures. Trade the Wold for one man. it seemed fair enough, but then again, he was not the one being traded. rosario decides he would let the present run its course and try to not think to far in front of it. The others would and could do that better. He would advise on tactical situations and the immediatcey of today.
Having had the ample security pointed out to him, Rosario decides to relax. He could not stop them all and being on edge about them would simply make him tired. So the remaining choice was to ignore them. Rosario collects his weapons on the way out and strolls pleasantly enough next to his sister. "I have changed my mind on this entire matter of the Bruce. We go along. We can talk more later. But I feel he knows us already. Something in this entire thing and what he said, 'you never know who they might be when the grow up.' His money and the earlier part of the day was more than enough. So he knows us let us assume. but he can't know the secret and that is the true king in our little game. As I said let us talk more later tonight."
Zita Tuesday August 26th, 2008 10:23:08 PM
Zita falls into step with Rosario and nods her head with his assessment though she cannot help but frown. "You know that I hate this waiting game." She has never been that patient unless it would award her greatly in the end and right now she could not see the big payoff. This was all too dicey for her taste.
With a sigh she lets it slide away though as she can see no way out of it at this time. Nodding her head once again she does not let her hand stray far from the longdagger at her side, though she is not overly obvious about it.
Picci Tuesday August 26th, 2008 11:30:11 PM
Picci can tell that the cuisine is excellent--certainly the Bruce enjoys eating it. She can't help but gape at her surroundings. Her life at the Montdidier estate was low key, but the setting here is opulent...almost decadent. It makes her feel uncomfortable.

"Well said, Mr. Bruce." Giovanni replied to Bruce's comment about worrying about what is in the shadows and raised his glass to him. Not noticing anything else out of the ordinary (spot=3), Gio finished as his host did and followed dutifully along. After sometime along the walk, Giovanni asked his host, "Mr. Bruce, may I play you something? I would be honored if I could entertain you during our walk." Giovanni brought forth his masterwork lute, since he never traveled without it, and began to play a haunting melody matching the shadows that threatened to engulf them with every step they took (perform=24).

Dextre nods to Zita and says, "I don't like to wait, either. But sometimes, that's just what you have to do. Everything in good time and all that rot, don't you know?
"And The Bruce worships Domi, eh? That seems honorable. At least he's not leading us to a temple of Marteaus or anything, right?"
Dextre seems a little nervous as they walk, watching around, observing, but not noticing or seeing anything other than the shadows.

"We're going? Really? Oh, OK." Bendis is a little disapointed. Looking up he just happens to spot the man call Howard tapping his earlobe. "Is there suh-something wrong with that man's ear?" he asks Picci. Then a thought strikes him. "Maybe he means "Listen". Muh-maybe he means listen to us. Could that be it? Could they have spies on the street eavesdropping on us? Maybe even invisible spies? Or am I just getting puh-paranoid?"
With a last anguished glance at the remaining food, Bendis trots after the others.

Calvierius carefully places his napkin on the table and stands, looking over his clothing carefully and finding no crumbs on it. He sets out behind the Bruce, not often entering the conversation, just keeping his eyes warily flickering over the crowds and his ears perked up as he follows. The unexpected gesture he caught the Bruce in struck him as somewhat odd, so hands never stray too far from his weapons.

DM Jamie Wednesday August 27th, 2008 5:50:23 PM I applogize for the late post.
The Bruce nods in agreement to Giovanni's request and Giovanni begins to play. It is a sad and torrid song that manages to make the nights darker and the shadows bigger. Walking down the street seems like it is taking forever and the way is stretching before you. You know it is just the effect of the song with your current mindset, but nonetheless it is still unnerving.
The Bruce says, "You know, when I was a young boy I wandered the streets of this fair city alone, an orphan. I was treated like a filthy street urchin. When it comes to life and death you soon learn that not everything is black and white. I look at the way the poor and alone are still treated to this day and I know the only way it will change is if each of us does something. You can't wait for the government to do anything."
The rest of the walk is pleasant. Several of you use the time to catch up or have side conversations. It is odd, however, that you have not seen anyone on your walk. Soon you enter the outcast quarter of the city. It should have taken quite a while to get here, but you swear you only just left the tavern. In the distance you can hear the falls as they cascade off into nothing, only to reappear at the mouth of the river.
The Bruce leads the way through this part of the city and to the ruins of the War Catherdral. It is a grand sight to see. You can only imagine what it must have looked like before it fell to ruin. The complex now lays open to the elements, but in the distance you can see torchlight and the sound of fighting. The Bruce turns, "I was taken in by the clerics of the temple when I was a very young child. I mostly took care of the rooms and did the cleaning. They taught me about hard work and taught me the way of the sword, although it took me a lot longer than most to learn it." He says with a smile. The Bruce continues towards the fighting and you see a cleared area in the center with several young men sparring with one another. Some are in armor and one in the middle is without. They are all phenomenal fighters. You look upon with awe as they move and twist strike and parry with one another. The Bruce stands and waits for them to finish or acknowledge him.
The one in the center looks over and catches a blow across the side of the face. The attacker falls to his knees, "Sir, I apologize for not paying attention. Please forgive me." The man in the center says, "No worries, Wilhelm. It should be I who is commending you for a strong strike and taking advantage of my lowered defenses. Now, take the others and retire for the evening."
"Archie, how are you doing?" Says the man. The Bruce turns a little red, "I am fine, Master. I wish you would not call me that. I have not gone by that for some time." He bows slightly and then waves towards you all, "Master John, these are some friends I just met today. I wanted to come and pay homage for my good fortune. They have helped me out a great deal." He waves his hand back forward, "Young friends, this is the head Priest of Domi." With that he pulls out a small sack of coins from under his belt and hands it over to Master John. "I know you have plans on rebuilding the temple. Here is a portion towards it."
"Thanks old friend, and welcome to the temple of Domi. It is a place of refuge and peace now. Just imagine what it will be when it is rebuilt." He looks over the area as if in thought. It is very peaceful and serene here right now.

Upon arriving at the temple looked about at the structure to try to determine how it fell in ruin, whether by manmade causes or natural (spot=18), and then politely bowed to the master of the temple upon their introduction.
"It's not much, but the road I travel takes me to such places for a reason, and who's to question the gods." Smiling, Giovanni donates 50gp to the rebuilding of the temple. leaving him a scant 5gp and change left.

Zita has been trying to enjoy herself as they have their little walk, but things still nag. The fact that some do not know the full extent of the danger is also worrying and she wonders if she should have told them straight away. Shaking her head she glances up to see the ruins that are starting to come into view.
Her senses sharpen a little as she watches the fighters going about their training, but she makes no overt moves to weapons. She has been getting this feeling of lightheadedness much like back in the cavern. She tilts her head slightly to listen and to put her closer to Rosario and Gigi. "Do you notice a difference as if your earring or amulet is attuning again?" She keeps her voice extremely low and figures that it will be cover over by the louder talking.
She does not bother to do much else and feels that alertness is going to be needed. For sure the ring she wears is trying to tell her something and she focuses on that, though trying to leave her other senses to things around her.

Moving into the temple proper, gigi looks around noting if things are as they should be in a temple to Domi or if things are misplaced or not in their proper positions. If things appear to be kosher, Gigi makes his way to the front of the sanctuary and begins his formal prayers.
DM Jamie Friday August 29th, 2008 8:33:12 AM Zita asks Roasario and Gigi if they feel anything different from their devices. Rosario is lost in the moment, but Gigi does feel something. It is not very strong, but their is something there.

Calvierius, silent for all this time, lets his growing dislike of the Bruce boil over, his face twisting in a grimace of anger and sorrow. He gestures at the scars that he carries on his face and arms, and bursts out with:
"An orphan? You could say that, sir. Except that it was not my parents who died, but my wife and infant daughter. Slaughtered as I lay unconscious, from grievous wounds inflicted upon me. It was only due to divine intervention that I survived at all, and was later able to extract vengeance on those who stole my greatest treasure. I am no stranger to the blade or death, or vengeance, for that matter. Somehow, I don't think it was Domi that helped me, either."

Rosario bites back a retort to the head priest. One, he was the head priest and deserved respect. Two going off about his noble birth right how he was of age and his family name was precisely what he could not do. So Rosario simply clenches his jaw a few times and silently thanks Calversius for going off a bit cocked. Allowing Rosario to answer with a bit more tact then he might have otherwise. "Most of us are a few years older than we look my lord. In my case, I am the third son and so have no claim to the family business nor must I go to temple. So I have travelled to the great city to see what the future might be mine to follow." Rosario starts and finishes with a small bow of his head.
"We all have similar stories and have met upon the road."

My father, Boomis Billingstone, (smiter of 43 with his own fair axe and twelfth cousin of King Grugal Billingstone), son of Bambus Billingstone (smiter of 12), son of Bokby Billingstone (37), son of Brottle Billingstone (hero of the battle of Clagogan Hall and smiter of 59), son of... uh, sorry. Anyway, my father decided it was time I went out a-smiting, and so, well, here I am."
Zita Monday September 1st, 2008 11:30:00 PM
Zita continues to keep her mind and thoughts on the ring, trying to find out what it is that it is doing or what it might be trying to tell them. The others can take care of the talks for right now and at least Rosario knows the need for secrecy. Though she is getting little response to her seekings, she tries not to let the flustrations show on her face.
To all others she is just seemingly interested in the surrounding area of the ground that use to be a temple and is now a training ground.
DM Jamie Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 10:36:16 AM
John is winces slightly at the verbal lashing given by Calvierius,"Well, I appologize for hitting a nerve young master. Do not think that your suffering will now go unnoticed. I can see their is great rage in you. The key is to temper it so it does not end up consuming you. It looks as if your friends are doing good by you."
Turning to Rosario, John says, "Well, nice to make your acquaintance. You are all lucky to have found one another and been able to travel together. The roads seem more dangerous lately. More reports of attacks and other such things. We have dispatched soldiers in all direction to just travel in the hopes of making the roads a bit safer." He smiles for a moment, "Pray you continue to look younger than you are. Sometimes it can help you. I also notice you seem interested in the sparing. If you like I am sure I can find someone to spar with you?"
"Ah, the dwarves, always with their lineages. It is good you know your background and where you come from master dwarf. And it is good to know that their is someone willing to help keep an eye out for the younger races."

Bendis Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 3:19:09 PM
Bendis nods, smiling, wondering if he's said too much. Still, this fellow seems nice enough, and surely their enemies can't be well informed enough to realise that there's a link between him and the Montdidiers. No, he chides himself, he's just being paranoid.
Zita Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 9:09:27 PM
Zita covers a yawn though she is not truely tired and shakes her head. There is a bit of suspicion in her mind and gut right now that they might just be in trouble. It seems to her that her ring and the earring went silent when in the presence of that thing that attacked them earlier. Almost as if they were trying to hide their presence from the thing and help them all out.
Nudging Rosario she shakes her head and tries to appear rather tired, not a hard task as she is kind of. "Maybe some more rest." She once again covers a yawn that is not really needed. She would love to kick back and relax, but also speak with those bearers to see if her suspicions are founded or not.

The young priestess has nothing to add to the topic of lineage and ancestry, as she technically has nothing to point to, ancestor-wise. Instead, she listens and looks, trying to discern anything that may prove useful later on. (OOC: Picci's voluntary Listen and Spot checks are 20 and 14, respectively.)

Perhaps a small band of young men and women looking to make thier way in the Wold could help?"

Giovanni Highlight to display spoiler: {Not sure if you saw my answer up above. It fell apart when Domi was killed and then has just continued to wither away due to the elements and time.}
John looks over Rosario, "You have a good heart about you and your offer is appreciated and may be accepted. You never know when someone might be needed that would not be recognized as a cleric or paladin of Domi. Sometimes subtlety and deception are the best methods to find your enemy."
John looks at Zita and for a moment smiles, "I see that it is late. Please, go and get some sleep and come back when you are rested. Perhaps we can find something for you. There have been several questionable attacks at the lower plateaus. Little reports about coordinated attacks, but when I sent men they came back and reported there was nothing of the sort going on. If you feel up to it you can check those out."
The Bruce turns and winks at the group. "Yes sir. It is late. I should get these guys back to their rooms." He bows back at John, "Good night." He turns and begins ushering you guys back the way you came.
Giovanni d20+11=27 ; Thursday September 4th, 2008 1:07:01 AM
Giovanni bows and says, "Goodnight your Grace and thank you for your hospitality." Along the way back to the rooms, Gio brings forth his lute once more and plays a more uplifting tune. (perform=27)
Picci Thursday September 4th, 2008 1:17:32 AM
Picci finds that she is humming along with the bard's tune and nods her appreciation of the music to Giovanni. She will heal up anyone who may need it before going to bed.
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Thursday September 4th, 2008 8:42:45 PM
Rosario simply nods and tries to point his face in a different direction from the Bruce and from John as soon as he can. Too much talk about deception, subtlety and more from both of them. All of it was touching close, too close to what they knew was after them. Rosario takes a few steps and throws out a nice yawn as an excuse to cover his mouth and try to hide the welling discomfort and unesase.
Dextre Thursday September 4th, 2008 8:46:29 PM
Dextre stays back in the group and avoids answering the question about his heritage, being quite embarrassed by his own history. He stands at the back and watches and observes. When directed, he melds with the group and heads back to the rooms.
As Giovanni plays, Dextre hums along and steps in time with the music, clearly enjoying it.
(Note: Back from trip, will be posting regularly again).
Zita Thursday September 4th, 2008 11:28:39 PM
Zita give the cleric a bow and then smiles. "Well...we cannot keep excepting the hospitality of our host for too long." She nods her head as she looks to the others and then shrugs. "We were going to look for work and we did talk about staying together...at least for awhile." She continued the whole sherade that they had met up a few at a time and were now traveling together out of necessity.
When the rest turn to leave she falls into step and this time covers a true yawn that she cannot stop.
Bendis Friday September 5th, 2008 8:32:35 AM
Bendis ponders the party's predicament.
"We're in a tuh-tough spot. We've learned of the enemy and the strongholds, but we have no real way of striking back. We don't know who to trust. At this point, what is our objective? Staying alive is a good priority, but beyond that, what next? Do we just run, or are we committed to fighting back, and if so, how?"

Item Bearers Highlight to display spoiler: { as you leave the sight you feel your items again. They are not speaking, but it as if they were supressing their abilities. It is hard to explain and they are not offering any answers.}
The walk back towards the inn goes uneventful. It is a relativly quite evening. Through the walk every so often you hear movement in a shadow, but it turns out to be a cat or other animal. The Bruce leaves you at about the halfway point muttering somehting about having to leave for home in the morning. "I will find you the next time I am in town. In the meantime if you need anything just contact Master John."
The In is still quite active even at this hour of the night. Several adventuring groups are just getting in. One group looks really bad off. They are younger looking and several have bad wounds. One of the members in particular has been carried in on a stretcher as they begin asking for help. A man in leathers steps forward and kneels next to the unconscience adventurer and says a few words. Their is a strange green glow emanating from the leathered man and the adventurer begins to breath deeply as you see the open flesh on his legs reknit itself and heal. The man checks on the other adventurers to see the severity of their wounds. He does the same on them and then seems to blend back into the crowd.
Your rooms are ready and still in the manner you left them.
Zita Friday September 5th, 2008 11:19:31 PM
Zita hurries back to the room, though she does watch the man for several seconds and tries to make notes of his work. As she gets back into the room she moves over to drop heavily on the bed, feeling exhausted and very tired all the sudden. She absently rubs the ring that she wears and tries to puzzle some of it out, maybe a losing battle but she must try.
When she can get a chance to speak to Rosario and Gigi she gets them to come over to sit with her. "I think my ring is hiding itself again. Do you think it is another of those parasites?" She has that feeling as the ring did not seem to feel the need to hide before, except for in their presence. Reaching up she rubs at her temples, trying to relieve the pressure there.
Giovanni d20+11=20 ; d20+1=7 ; d20+11=27 ; Saturday September 6th, 2008 3:10:15 AM
Giovanni settles down and slowly plays a tune, one that would lull himself to sleep (perform=20). Casually he looks about the room to see if anything is out of the ordinary, but notices nothing (spot=7). His eyes heavy, he begins to drift off, then... the rumble in his belly betrays his hunger. The walk back had made him hungry again, unfortunately he was low on cash. Maybe the innkeeper would allow him to play for his food. Gathering his lute, he said, "I'm going downstairs to earn a meal."
Approaching the Innkeeper he asked humbly, "Would you be amenable to barter my playing for some of your food and spirits?" Gio shows him the masterwork lute and strums a few complex chords for him and smiles through tired eyes.(perform=27)
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Saturday September 6th, 2008 1:51:24 PM
Rosario mentally notes the earring 'waking up' as they leave Master John, but also the ruined temple. He is glad for the easy walk back and in spite of himself, he finds his right hand tapping the hilt of his sword in time to Giovanni's playing.
Rosario notes the banged up party, after dropping off some things, maybe he could come back down and find out a bit more of what they ran into. With a look and a nod of his head towards the wounded group he silently asks Picci if she could help.
At the room, he unbuckles his weapon and pack and places them both on the bed. A raised eyebrow goes in Giovanni's direction More food? Amazing
more to come from Rosario....
Dextre Saturday September 6th, 2008 3:05:45 PM
Dextre heads to the rooms as well and nearly falls to sleep while Giovanni plays. The chair scraping across the floor as Giovanni stands up wakes him quickly and he grabs to his rapier in the excitement of waking up suddenly. Just as quickly he relaxes his grip on the rapier and looks around. He says to Giovanni, "Headed downstairs? I suppose I'll follow you down."
When the arrive downstairs, as Giovanni speaks to the innkeeper, Dextre heads over to the younger group of recently injured adventurers. When the opportunity presents itself, without interrupting them, Dextre walks up to the group and says, "You fellows sure looked a bit rough there when you arrived. What happened?"
Bendis Monday September 8th, 2008 12:01:29 PM
Bendis gazes at the battered party in wonder. These boys have taken a beating all right.
"Wuh-wuh-what happened?" he asks the healer in leathers.
Picci d20=9 ; Monday September 8th, 2008 11:14:42 PM
Picci's attention is more focused on the man who came forward and performed the healing magic, watching the proceedings with very great interest. (OOC: the d20 I rolled resulted in a 9...I'm not sure if Picci needs to Spot (which adds 4 to the roll), or make either a Heal check (add 8 to the roll) or a Spellcraft check (add 4 to the roll) to discern what the unknown healer is doing.)

Zita, Rosario, Gigi, and Calverius retire upstairs for the night to talk amongst themselves and get some sleep. The others, whether they stayed downstairs or came up and then went back down, begin to mingle downstairs.
Giovanni approaches the innkeeper. He is a rather tall fellow, even tall for a human. His firey red hair is long and unkept and his green eyes look deep and old. He smiles down at you and says, "You can play for as long as you like, but I warn you it can get a little rowdy in the later hours. I will give you some drink and some food after I see how you do." Giovanni climbs onto the stages area amongst geers and laughing. He stands in the middle with everyone looking at him, places his fingers to the strings, and plays. The effect is stunning. Slowly, as the music weaves this way and that through the crowd, they all go silent and pay attention to Giovanni. The music seems to becoms a sort of innate magic that is weaved through this place. Music is the silence in this place tonite.
Dextre and Bendis go over to where the adventurers are recouping from their wounds and begin to ask several questions. At the begining they are very hesitant to talk about what happened. You can see a sort of wild fear in their eyes. Liek the look of someone who can't believe what they have seen. You can tell they have suffered wounds that can not be hearled by magic, only time. "I don't want to think about it anymore." Says one of the older looking men. He can't be over 25, but the others all look so young. "We were attacked by something on the lower plateaus, but we aren't sure what. It was dark and we never saw it. We were waiting for the lift to lower and bring us up. We had to wait in the dark since their was no one at the station. Adn then, before we knew what happened we were laying there bloodied and one of our companions was missing." His head drops into his hands as sobs begin to come uncontrolably. One of the others in the group. A younger woman says, "Gweneth was to be his wife." She approaches him as do the others and they all hug together.
Picci,Highlight to display spoiler: {As you watch the man do the healing you see something you have never seen before and never expected to see. Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Tuesday September 9th, 2008 8:36:49 PM
Rosario shakes his head to Zita, "I did not notice anything really until we left the area and Master John's presence. The gods can not possibly be so mad with us that the person Giovanni helped leads us straight to another one of them things can they?"
Roy's face screws up in a wholly insatisfied look, "Maybe the items can sense an aura from some people who might be able to sense them back and to protect themselves and us they shut down? Hell I don't know, but I do know we can't just sit around this inn forever. We need to move and work on things as we go. Besides, we cannot afford it. I think we should move to investigate these strange attacks on the lower plateu. The enemy is looking for us." Rosario draws his weapon slowly, scanning the upper most edge for burs in the light, but Zita is close enough to her brother to know his mind is elsewhere. his next words seem to almost channel Antonino, his father. "Time we did in kind."
Rosario completes the draw and moves to sit on a bunk and oils and sharpens his weapon before retiring, barring further conversation
Giovanni Tuesday September 9th, 2008 9:44:56 PM
Giovanni notices some of his companions with the group who had begged for help soon after they came to the inn, but it was nothing more than a glance. His heart and attention was with his music. His eyes closed, he could imagine the rolling hills of his home in Spring, the songs of the bird and whispering wind, the telltale fluttering of the dragonflies. If ears were eyes, his audience could also see it in their minds eye.
Zita Tuesday September 9th, 2008 11:21:00 PM
With a sigh, Zita nods her head. "You are most likely right..." She gives him a slight smile that tells you that she is still worried but will put off to the side as something she cannot solve at this time. "Not that we can do much about that right now." She looks around the room to those that are left and leans back against the headboard, this time letting out a more content smile.
She can tell that Rosario is contemplating something else and as he makes to work on his weapon she nods her head. Letting her eyes close she listens to the sounds around her and tries to just enjoy the moment. "You know that I do not like the idea of hiding either." She opens one eye to lazily view her brother and then nods her head. "Tomorrow we will start our own search...maybe these attacks are the way to start." Her thoughts turn to the group downstairs that had been busted up pretty bad. For some reason she cannot get the man with the green glow of healing? out of her head.
Bendis Wednesday September 10th, 2008 4:29:11 AM
"Guh-goodness" mutters Bendis, "How awful! I'm so sorry for your loss, sir. I wonder what the attacker could have been. I know you couldn't zsee anything, butdid it make any sounds as it attacked? A smell perhaps?"
Dextre Wednesday September 10th, 2008 9:06:44 AM
Dextre says, "Oh my, I am quite sorry to hear that. These are indeed dangerous times, are they not? But one would hope that those who are not seeking adventure will not soon find it." He places his hand gently on the man's shoulder and says, "If there were anything I could do for you, I would help. I am truly sorry for your loss."

Bendis and Dextre the group is really distraught over the whole thing. The big one who was sobbing is apparently the leader. "I am not going out anymore", he says. "And I suggest the rest of you go about your lives now." He gets up and walks out the door, his huge frame shudders with sobs and his head hangs low as he walks out the door. The others kind of look around at each other like they can't believe what just happened and begin to disperse. Only one of them stays behind shaking his head as if he is upset about something. Picci blinks, stunned. To wield healing energy without invoking the blessing of the gods..? The very idea was extremely radical. Her obsidian eyes shift around the perimeter of the room, her flagging energy suddenly rekindled by the comprehension of this newest mystery. Where had the stranger disappeared to..? She just had to find out and speak to him! OOC: Picci's Spot check is 11.
Caele Loregaard Wednesday September 10th, 2008 7:09:26 PM
You see a man sitting on the floor by the fireplace with his back against wall. He is small by human standards with a lean, wiry look about him. He has about a weeks beard growth on his somewhat diry face, Long and unkempt sandy blond hair draped around his shoulders and face make it difficult to see him clearly in the already dark room. He certainly looks someone who has spent every waking hour outdoors. A few streaks of grey can be seen in his hair and beard.
His clothing and gear appear very well worn, somewhat dirty but quite serviceable. He appears to be woodsman by the look of him and his garb; one of those wild men who live with nature and not civilization.
The man puts a a small metal goblet down and reaches for a pouch around his waist. He undraws the pouch and drops it; his weathered right hand shakes uncontrollably for a moment. The man pauses and reaches down with his left hand. A patch the size of half a fist is missing hair right at the top of his head. An old wound from a past battle no doubt. He produces some sort of ground plant from the purse and starts bandaging and mending his bloodied right arm.
The small man is armed with an old looking longsword and a shortsword; one on each side waist. A equally old looking quiver with beautiful arrows is not far away with its very beautiful Elven longbow companion. The man has at least four daggers showing on his person as well.
The man looks up to appraise the room. He breathes long, practiced breathes; his heavily mended studded armor rises slowly each time.
Finally, a long green hooded cloak has been discarded and lies in a pile with his backpack and other effects.

Having retired upstairs with Zita, Rosario and Calverius, Gigi ponders the ear ring thing for a bit. Well Zita, I felt a little something with the amulet as we entered the temple area but then dismissed it as It did not continue, but I certainly felt it "wake back up" after we left. I put it down to perhaps a magical suppression around the temple area but I suppose it could have been a self defense mechanism. Was the question asked of the guardian about how we might tell if we were near one of these creatures?
As the visions begin Gigi tries to focus on the amulet and if he felt anything just prior or during the viewing, trying to sense if there is a way of telling when the artifacts are going to activate and do something (knowledge arcana 5), but has no inkling what-so-ever.
Giovanni d20+8=25 ; Wednesday September 10th, 2008 8:25:39 PM
Giovanni humbly accepted the praise of his audience and devoured the food and drink given by the beneficent innkeeper. Those who knew him, knew he was a loudmouth sometimes, but never when it came to his music. It was the one thing he didn't suck at and he was grateful for it's comfort during hard times, so he never acted brash or too good for those that bothered to listen, enjoyed his playing and wanted to converse with him afterwards (diplomacy=25).
Bendis Thursday September 11th, 2008 6:29:54 AM
Bendis approaches the stranger by the fireplace. There is something about the attack that worries the portly dwarf, and he means to find out more. He clears his throat, pushes his spectacles up his nose and speaks.
"Um, excuse me sir, you were with the party that was attacked, is that right? You seem an experienced adventurer. Is there anything more you might be able to tell you about who or what attacked you? Oh, my nuh-name's Bendis, by the way."
Caele Loregaard Thursday September 11th, 2008 10:39:06 AM
The man looks up at the tall, balding Dwarf for a good 10 seconds and then he slowly (cautiously) gets up. Caele has cleaned and dressed his wound and the bleeding has stopped. He motions Bendis to a pair of chairs near the fireplace and he takes one himself.
Caele ties his hair back into a pony tail and leans back. It is obvious to Bendis that this man's not a man after all. An Elven half breed and an older one at that. Bendis might guess him to be over 60 by the look of him .
The half-Man looks at Bendis and speaks in an ever so slightly deeper voice than one might expect for his size. "Well." He pauses for a moment. "I can only assume it's that damned rogue priest of Gaal we'd been hearing stories about." He pauses for a slight moment,
"But frankly we can't say for certain who or what hit us."
Caele slowly reaches for his wine skin as they talk, slow enough so that Bendis could easily see what his intentions were under the table. He takes a sip and looks over at Bendis.
Dextre Thursday September 11th, 2008 11:37:37 AM
Dextre smiles at Giovanni's performance and acceptance by the crowd. "No wonder he thinks so highly of himself," Dextre thinks to himself. "He's actually quite good."
As Bendis heads over to the fireplace, following the one remaining member of the attacked adventurers, Dextre goes with him. He stands a bit behind Bendis, but close enough that he can hear what's being said without appearing to be intruding on the half-elf.
Zita Thursday September 11th, 2008 6:11:34 PM
The images are wisps of smoke that she tries to keep ahold of but they pass through her fingers. As she comes awake with the need to keep herself alive, she is already reaching for the rapier at her bedside. Her hand has already wrapped around the hilt as she slowly tries to calm her breathing.
Her eyes flicker around the room as she grasps onto the last little thing that she can remember. It was the downstairs that she sees at the end of her dream...or was it a dream...maybe a warning? Then her eyes settle on the spot that Cal had been at and she swears, even as she is sliding out of bed. "Gone...betrayed or not...I will pin his ears back." Her temper is getting away already and she is figuring the worst...then again, she finds it better that way. At least if she finds out that her worst was not true, it can be a small blessing.
Though not taking the time to make her dressing look good, that is exactly what she is doing. Soon she is fully dressed and rapier belted on as she strides across the room. Absently she kicks the bed that Rosario is in, as well as those of anyone else that is there, even if he is awake. "Cal is gone." Her eyes are still flashing and the way her hands are clenching into fists, it is easy to tell...she is angry

To his own honor he is glad that there are few to witness the spectacle. Rosario looks to where Claverius was and then back to Zita. "Blast." is all he can muster to say. "I'll a far slight worse Zita if he's not just downstairs having a drink." Rosaio calms slightly as his waking mind gathers a bit more and informs him that immenent danger is not upon them and he looks more squarely at his sister. Things were far more connected these days and the fact that he, Zita and Gigi all popped awake at the same time is not lost on him.
"Something is going on downstairs. Do you to dream of the wounded man?" Hearing the confirmation he nods, grabs his pack and moves to the door. Only after he opens it does he remember the bastard sword in his right hand and he returns it to its sheath. We should go down and check with the others and see if who we saw is there." rosario heads downstairs.

She glances at Rosario, a hard stare that tells him not to take away her focus just yet. Slightly behind him she is carrying all her gear in the pack she holds in her left hand. "Yes...lets have a look." For at least a little while she is not going to let go of the last bits of anger that rage in her body.

Gio graciously accepted the praise of his admirers as he sat and ate as much food and drank as much wine as he could. Looking over as he was stuffing his face, he noticed some of his group in deep conversation with a stranger, a half-elf by the looks of it. He looked the man over for anything odd, out of the place, just in case (spot=18).
Caele Loregaard Saturday September 13th, 2008 6:10:51 PM
Calele sets his skin down and looks over the others in a casual, yet methodical fashion.
"I was with one group of others that had banded together to investigate some attacks on the Low Plateau Some common folk and a few travelers were hit--or so we were told. This Gaalian priest" he pauses as if remembering something and continues, "This 'priest' was supposedly responsible. We came through a few hamlets and found homes being repaired. "
The man's face turns into a slight angry frown and his gaze narrows; "Those folks were scared--I just know it; they were hidin' the truth of the matter. Each and every one of them were tight-lipped, doin' 'add-ons' and 'redecorating' or some nonsense--that's all we could get out of them when we asked about what we saw. None of them would admit there was an attack."
He takes another light drink and his demeanor lightens somewhat. "We were invited to stay a few days by the Montdidier's; nice folks but a bit uppity for my taste. One of our comrades became ill though, a woman. A man named Luke-the agreed upon leader decided we should take her back 'Up Plateau to a skilled healer. I wasn't able to do much good for her. I'm a lot better at settin' broken bones and mendin' gashes then I am with odd headaches."
The half-elf relaxes a bit all the while looking around at and beyond everyone ever so often. "So, as we were headin' back we were assaulted. I don't know what hit us but it was damn crafty and hidden well--whatever or whomever twas. When I came to, we were tore up pretty good. Our priest took the worst of it. When we regained our senses we realized that the woman Laura was gone."
Caele's face turned angry again. "And I can't believe her betrothed isn't going to look for her! What kind of man wouldn't risk hell and high water to look for his bride to be? Or anyone needin a helping hand?" He looks around to them and answers his own question. "I'll tell you what kind of man--a damned coward, that's what. As soon as I patch up here I'm going to find her and..." He pauses again and speaks with a low, determined voice, "and 'deal' with whoever took her and attacked us."

Waking with the others, Gigi looks to the other two. Is it too late to give these blasted things back? I would like just once to get a decent night's rest. I assume we are going down stairs? Do we have tiome for armor or are we just grabbing weapons?
Bendis Monday September 15th, 2008 8:09:26 AM
Bendis listens wide-eyed to Caele's story, nodding along as the tale unfolds.
"A priest you say? Tightlipped? The Montdidiers? Guh-goodness!"
When the half-elf is done Bendis leans back and twists his fingers nervously in his beard. His words tumble over one another in their hurry to get out, as he peppers the ranger with questions.
"So, you never did find this priest then? Duh-do you think it's him who kidnapped Laura? Yuh-you're quite right, it's shocking that anyone would just leave her to her fate, worst of all her supposed beloved. How do you plan to track them? Question those villagers again perhaps? And the Montdidiers. Goodness. Did you get to visit the Montdidiers in the end? How did you get an invitation from such a prestigious family?"
Bendis glances about as subtly as he is able, wondering if any of his companions are nearby who might reckognise this fellow, or corroborate his story. Dextre is nearby, which is a relief, but neither of the Montdidier children, which is not. Where could they be, he wonders.
Dextre Monday September 15th, 2008 10:07:17 AM
Dextre nods as he listens to the story, but does not say anything. He looks around the room again to see if he sees any of the other adventurers that had entered with Caele, especially the one Caele named as Luke, the big leader who lost his fiancee.
DM Jamie Monday September 15th, 2008 5:07:03 PM Hope everyone had a restfull weekend. I know I can't wait until this semester is over with. I am taking a break after it so I can focus more on the game and give you guys a good experience.
Rosario, Zita, and GiGi head down the stairs to the main room. As you pass the front desk the inn keeper holds up a note and says, "You scarred friends left this for you before he left."
As you continue on into the main room you see that the others have seemed to congregate around a man that you saw both with the injured group earlier and in your vission. Bendis seems to be really intent on listening to the conversation. Giovanni is still eating and it looks like he has a bundle of food on the table before him. Dextre is off to the side, but he seems to be listening to the man as well. He looks about the room looking for something. DextreHighlight to display spoiler: { You don't see any of them. Picci you keep looking around for the man with the green magic, but are unable to find him. It is as if he left the bar in all the comotion.

Caele calms down after a few moments and regains his quiet composure. He looks the Dwarf over as he speaks, listening to his questions. "My dear elder," he begins respectfully, "Our band never saw this renegade; if we did see him then we didn't know who he or she was. "
The woodsman adjusts his bandage slightly as he answers more questions--apparently the cloth was attached a bit too tightly. He works the bandage over again some. "About Laura's captors--and I hope she has been kidnapped and not murdered, but I can only assume she was needed for some purpose. But to plainly answer, yes I think that 'priest' is the kidnapper."
Caele sighs and shakes his head slightly. "I should have known better about this previous group. I could see it in there eyes, in a manner of speaking. Those kids don't have the stomach for a fight; at least not yet they don't." He pauses for a moment, "Except for our priest. Got guts I say. I guess it doesn't surprise me that the rest of'em didn't want to continue. It takes a while to dance with Death in order to learn the steps; as I'm sure you know all to well Master Dwarf. But damnit, I still say Luke is a coward. A courageous man is still a fearful man--but he still acts and does the right thing when he must."
He moves onto the next inquiry. "The Montdidiers? Hrmm, well come to think of it, I didn't have much to do with the 'negotiations' and all--I guess Luke and the priest did most of the talking. Anyway, we were there just last night. I heard Luke telling the ladies that we were investigating the attacks I mentioned earlier and not too long after some more conversation of which I didn't hear much else. Well, they invited us to stay with them about 45 minutes later. And of course, everything went to the Hell Hounds after that."
Zita Monday September 15th, 2008 8:13:04 PM
With a raised eyebrow she takes the note from the innkeeper and opens it after stepping to the side. She is still mad as can be and not at all happy about anything else...but maybe Cal had a good reason to leave so fast. She sighs as her anger is slowly dwindling as she lets it go. Her mother always told her it was not always good to think in anger or act with it either.
Glancing around for the rest of the group, she passes the note off to Rosario and Gigi to read for now. Especially since both of them are right there with her, but the rest will have to be told in due course...once she found them. Just a little fire of anger remained and she holds onto that as she does not want to hold onto the other feeling that is also there...fear.
Giovanni Monday September 15th, 2008 11:02:32 PM
"Mmm, bacon. Bacon stuffed bacon, with bacon crumbled on top, with a side of bacon." Giovanni smiled the smile that reached his eyes.
Picci Tuesday September 16th, 2008 12:44:28 AM
The petite cleric frowns as she fruitlessly scans the crowd--her quarry is gone and she hasn't the slightest idea of how to find him. Sighing, she turns around to rejoin the others, overhearing Giovanni's happy treatise on the joys of bacon.
"Don't forget a bacon chaser, Giovanni," she suggests impishly, winking at him as she passes. Picci returns to where Bendis is having his conversation with the man known as Caele.
"...so..." the sable-maned girl says, looking brightly from one face to another, "...what'd I miss..?"
Dextre Tuesday September 16th, 2008 8:23:59 AM
When Picci and the others arrive, Dextre quietly brings them up to date on the story that Caele has been telling. He then adds, "None of the others are here that I can see, Caele is the only one left of the group. The others, well, just appear not to be cut out for adventuring."
Bendis Tuesday September 16th, 2008 5:23:17 PM
Bendis nods along as Caele speaks.
"I, um, I'm not so sure I've learned those steps so well yet" mumbles the dwarf, straightening his spectacles again. "To be honest all that fighting quite unsettles me, but you're quite right; when the fight is worth fighting one cannot falter."
Looking around he spots his companions arriving in the bar. He raises an eyebrow, as if to say "Well? Are you coming over to find out more?"
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Tuesday September 16th, 2008 7:01:23 PM
Rosario glances over the note and then hands it to Gigi. "He still should have told us." Rosario remarks to Zita, but he seems content to let at least that drop now. Stepping from the stairs and easily picking out Bendis, Rosario turns that direction. That was one of the men with the wounded group. Be a nice change if he had some useful information on what was going on down there before roy convinced the others to follow him down.
Rosario nods at bendis's raised brow and moves to sit fairly close to the stranger Caele. "Rosario" he says in a steady toned greeting as he extends his hand while seating himself. Dextre fills in the quick of the story, Rosario listens, trying to keep his adrenaline under control. the hunt and fight was getting near, a purpose a strike point, an outlet for his pain and anger.
"So you ready to go back down?"
Rosario is a human male in his late teens, has short dirty brown hair and is rather plain looking at best. About 5'11" and 190 pounds. Right handed with no scars or other discenrable features out of the ordinary. He wears a Chain shirt under a well tailored tunic with a bastard sword at one hip and a composite longbow over a shoulder.
DM Jamie Tuesday September 16th, 2008 11:58:08 PM
The party gathers around Caele as he tells his tale and answers questions. As the night continues the crowd in the bar dwindles down to near nothing. Soon you notice their are not many more in the bar except for you. It looks like the barkeep has even turned in for the evening.
What should the group do now?
I am trying not to post until everyone has gotten a post in. Sorry for the short post. It got late fast.
Giovanni Wednesday September 17th, 2008 12:27:34 AM
Having finished eating and drinking, or more aptly, forced to stop eating and drinking because the kitchen and bar had closed, Giovanni and his lute retired for the night to his shared room. Visions of sugar plums would dance in his head that night since he hadn't partaken of any desert, much to his chagrin. What kind of place would close so early, before the seventh meal, he thought to himself. Patting his tummy, and talking softly to it like it was a child, he drifted slowly away to dream of large women.
Bendis Wednesday September 17th, 2008 10:42:23 AM
Bendis says to the wounded ranger "I for one would like to huh-help you find out more, even if your departed comrades would not. If my comrades are in agreement, of course. It's late, let's rest, and discuss the matter further in the morning."
He rises, smiling. "A pleasure to meet you sir."

Well I see the hand of Domi in this sudden parting and meeting. Particularly as we had the vision and he seems to have had a run in with the same branch of Ga'als priesthood that we did. We need allies and as they say the enemy of my enemy .....
Zita Wednesday September 17th, 2008 8:45:13 PM
Listening carefully, she takes in the whole story though she is sure the man would rather not tell it anymore. To hear him speak of going back out brings a smile to her face, though if it is one of pity or maybe agreement...that is to be seen. She glances to the others but keep her own voice silent for now. There are a number of things that will need to be discusses, but that is something to do in the morning. Sleeping on it would be advisable, though she is not sure she will sleep much more this day as she has too many things to think about even now...maybe a catnap.
Her eyes flash and she is still mad at Cal for his parting without a word. He could have at least done that much and let them know what it was that had drawn him away. For some reason, his note is not the most comforting thing and it could well be that the enemy would use him in the future......and they would not look to help him for they thought him ok.
When they finally return to the shared room she only spends bits of her time sleeping, most of it is spent thinking over what she has heard. What she knows about the surrounding area. Her brain is trying to come up with a place that this cleric could have taken the lady and the thought that a man that supposedly loved her...would leave her to die. He had better hope that she never meets him again...her anger was already pressing hard on her and it would not do well for him.
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Thursday September 18th, 2008 10:23:55 AM
Rosario asks if the man has a place to stay in the inn already and if not volunteers Giovanni's room to him. "Might have to hit the floor but better than the common room." Rosario escorts his sister upstairs with Gigi and takes a watch of a few hours before calling it a night and waking Gigi for a early morning shift.
Rosario is not upset about the story of the man not going after his future wife. He doesn't know the whole story and though word beloved kept being thrown around it might not be true. People marry far more often for reasons that have nothing to do with love than they do for love.
DM Jamie Thursday September 18th, 2008 12:26:31 PM
The rest of the evening is uneventful. You all get a good night's rest. The sun pours into the room and you all get up at your respective times. Everyone that went to sleep in the rooms are still there. You can all smell breakfast wafting up through the floorboards as you get your gear together for the day. Some are worrying about Calverius and others are thinking about bacon. Still others are worried about kidnapped party members.
Now, it all stands to you. Do you stay in town and try to do anything or are you going to help your newly acquired party member. What will you do? What will become the foundation of your destiny?
Giovanni Thursday September 18th, 2008 1:49:11 PM
Giovanni wakes up blearly, "Hmm, breakfast." Rubbing his eyes and gathering his things together, he says to Zita sleepily, "So care to tell us the rest over breakfast, what we've gotten ourselves into?"
Dextre Thursday September 18th, 2008 3:24:22 PM
"I think this man needs help, and I don't see any reason we shouldn't help him, do any of you?"
Caele Loregaard Thursday September 18th, 2008 8:56:36 PM
ooc: backtrack to the previous night's conversation if that's ok.
To Bendis: "I thank you for your offer and will consider it. But first, I want to know more about you and your comrades.
To Rosario : Caele greets Rosario pleasantly enough but doesn't shake hands with him.
Giovanni/DM Caele sleeps outside if there is a secluded enough wooded area not far away, If not then he will reluctantly sleep in Giovanni's room in no private rooms are available.
DM Jamie - No problem. There is a park nearby in the city. I would guess a 30 minute trip from where you are. If Caele would feel more comfprtable he could do that and just be at the inn in the morning.
Dextre Friday September 19th, 2008 8:11:47 AM
As they set up for the night, Dextre nudges Bendis and says, "Seems a bit suspicious, doesn't he? You offer to help him against someone who attacked him and he says it depends on whether he likes us or not? I wonder if there's more to this fellow's story than he's said so far."
Bendis Friday September 19th, 2008 10:14:26 AM
Bendis shakes his head at Dextre's comments.
"I'm not so sure. Don't get me wrong, It's good to be wary, given our situation. Buh-but that's no less true for him; we could be anyone, why should he trust us? For all he knows we're a bunch of cutthroats just waiting to get him on his own so we can steal his purse. He's gruff and grizzled, but I get the feeling we can trust this fellow. What's more, he talked of the Montdidiers, and strange goings-on around that area. I think we need to investigate, it may well be linked to our own goals."
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Friday September 19th, 2008 2:39:54 PM
Rosario nods as Bendis talks. "I agree, he does not know us from a hole in the ground. I wuld be more concerned if he was jumping up and down to place his life in the hands of a total stranger, which would be us. I also think we should investigate, but I want to stay clear of the area of Fort Silence. " Rosario gives a glance to all of them, "He was jumped at the lift, not the Fort and we really don't need to be stomping about and get recognized. Away from Silence we can simply be adventurers who heard of the trouble and here we are. Agreed?" the question is aimed straight at Zita.
After the conversation, Rosario heads down for breakfast and if he can find him will approach Caele again, "Mind company?"
Zita Friday September 19th, 2008 7:40:24 PM
Zita nods her head in reply to the spoken question by Rosario and then turns to the situtation at hand. She glances to each and sighs, looking to all of them. "Feel free to fill in anything that you think to be important...but I am going to keep this short for now." She turns her attention back to those that are newest to the group and are in the greatest need to know of the danger that faces them. "We are being hunted by an old evil it seems. Though we have only seen what appears to be like a parasitic worm that takes over the body of those it comes in contact with. It appears that it enters the brain and takes over the person, killing that which was the original person. My family was in possession of a few rare items that might have something to do with stopping them or at least slowing them down." An abundance of emotions pass across her face, usually replaced by either pain or anger...maybe a little longing as well.
"Now we seek to solve the bigger mysteries of this and stay one step ahead of those that seek to kill us. To be honest, we can trust noone really till they prove themselves and maybe not even then. Still, we cannot afford to distance ourselves from allies either...but we have little way of knowing who they might be...or what exactly it is that we are fighting." She looks to the others to add in more details, but this is enough to tell those that are new...that they are in deep trouble. Holding something rather dangerous and valuable that an enemy is seeking.
Giovanni Friday September 19th, 2008 7:57:45 PM
Worms. Giovanni's appetite was gone. "W-wu-worms you say? Umm, so where are these worms coming from, I mean, they can't be like little nightcrawlers and the like, can they?"
Dextre Saturday September 20th, 2008 9:45:33 AM
When Zita speaks, the color drains from Dextre's face. "Worms? Taking over people's bodies? Wow." He looks around at the others to be sure they're not playing a joke on him. "I just can't imagine..." He looks down at the ground and says no more for the moment.

Caele returns to the inn sometime mid morning and looks for the tall Dwarf Bendis. He is fully dressed, packed and ready to leave... somewhere.
DM Jamie Monday September 22nd, 2008 4:55:13 PM
The morning welcomes most with the kiss of sunlight, others, the smell of bacon. Breakfast is great and bountiful for those of you there. Explanations are made for the newcomers reguarding worms. And the morning beckons for action and movement. You can feel that all to familiar stir in your muscles and joints. The need to do soemthing, but what? Will you investigate the attacks perpetuated by the priests? Could be the same group you stumbled upon early on in your adventure. Memories of that night flood back to those of you that were there. The attack at Dahlia's, the death of Fabersham, the run back to Fort Silence and what you found there. Seems like it was only yesterday.
Zita Monday September 22nd, 2008 8:19:34 PM
Zita shrugged as the others added bits and pieces. "Worms was the simplist way to explain it, though you are right that it does not exactly fit." Her frown darkens her face as she cannot find a better description for them. "As for how they get around." All she can do is simply shrug as she does not remember that being asked or answered...but she feels that they are transported to their victims in someway.
Shaking her head she is soon ready to leave with the rest of the group and will head down for breakfast. Though she does not feel much like eating, she knows that nourishment will be needed as she will need her strength. "Let us eat breakfast and then decide on a next step. We all might think better on a full stomache." With that in mind she heads down to the main room to get some breakfast and settle her mind.
With a hundred thoughts flying through her mind she absently picks at her food, eating but not really bothering to taste anything. When she cannot stand it any longer, though she did hold out longer than her friends have seen her do in the past...she pushes the plate away. "Should we check out this kidnapping that happened? It might be important to us, but at least it will give us something to occupy us for a time." She feels that to be busy right now would at least allow her to forget...even for a little while would be a blessing.
Dextre Tuesday September 23rd, 2008 7:12:08 AM
"I am quite wary of fighting something that cannot, apparently, be fought. But those who are taken over by this thing -- is there nothing left of them? If not, I will have no regrets destroying them."
When Zita mentions the kidnapping, Dextre speaks up again, "Yes, I think this kidnapping, or whatever it was, should be investigated quickly before the trail grows too cold."

Can you guys let me know if you are getting my emails. Thanks.
Zita gives a good description of the enemy to those who are new and brings up the Kidnapping of Caele's former party member. The consensus around the table is to help with the search for her.
As the meal is finishing up Caele can be seen waiting over by the fireplace. He nods in acknoledgement when the is spotted.
The party loads up and begins the trip back to the lift so they can proceed down. The morning looks good, but some clouds can been seen off in the distance. Perhaps tonite it will be overcast. The trip to the lift brings it's own form of challenges. Their are shops and shopkeeps fighting for attention as you walk past. "Come in and try this, it is the latest thing...", "Come and try a sample. I promise you will not be disappointed.", and "Grows your hair back or your money back. are some of the phrases you hear on the way out.
As you approach the lift you see a few other individuals gatherd waiting to head down. Looks like a family with a load of food in a donkey pulled wagon. There is an adult human male, an adult human female, and 2 human female children. The children are quietly playing with one another while they wait for the lift to arrive. As you approach the male turns to you and in a bit of a country accent says, "Morning ladies and gents. You are in luck, we have been waiting near and hour, but the lift fast approaches now and only maybe a few more minutes."

Gio waited quietly, he never liked playing in the morning so the thought of a tune was out of the question. Besides, he barely ate half his breakfast, the thought of worms still present in his forethought.
Zita Wednesday September 24th, 2008 8:09:18 PM
With a frown on her face she waves off Rosario and shakes her head. "I ate enough but I am not too much into it this morning." As she listens to the others talk and agree upon helping out she nods her own head. She has an idea that she needs to lay out before all of them as she is not sure about how to go about it. "I know there is a process of coloring hair, mundane as well as magical. My red hair stands out a little and it might be a good idea to change it. Any ideas of what is needed for that." She glances around the table and smiles. "Magic might not be the best idea of course...too many ways to detect it." When the rest are finally ready to leave, though she would have loved to of gotten her hair taken care of...she is along for the walk.
She moves along with a purpose, only turning her head now and again to look at wares as they pass. Trying to make it appear as if she might be interested in shopping instead of what they are about to do. As the finally draw near the lift, she takes note of the kids and the people but lets the others worry about that for now. Her own mind is going back over some of the things that she has learned that might allow her to change her hair color. Something that will take a good number of washes to get rid of so there are no accidental mishaps.
Dextre d20+1=17 ; Thursday September 25th, 2008 6:33:49 AM
When Zita speaks of coloring her hair, Dextre speaks up, "Well, I do know of a few tricks that I've seen done. If we're in a hurry, though it's messy, just a bit of dirt would help. No, I know that's disgusting, but in the right amounts, it's not all that bad. It might itch for a little bit, but it does the job. On the other hand, if we can check with the bartender and see about a few ingredients, like some blueberries or cherries, you'd be surprised how easily those can bring down the coloring there. Here, if you'd allow me, I can help out a bit."

Bendis is distracted more than once by the shopowners hawking their wares, and has to be chivied along by his companions. "But he said he could grow my hair back!" he wails as he's hauled away from a stall.
Arriving at the lift he feels his stomach start to turn cartwheels again. "Ohhh, why is it always heights?" he groans, keeping well away from the lift edge.
He replies to the fellow who speaks to them with a slightly greenish tinge to his face, "The sooner this is over with the better. Do you do this trip regularly? I cuh-couldn't bear it. Just the thought of this lift brings me out in a cold sweat."

Caele does not speak to any of the shop keepers as they pass but does look for anything out the ordinary and attempts to scan the area and listen to the ones that talk to Bendis. (Sense motive 17).
While approaching the lift and meeting the family and man he gauges the entire area as thoroughly as possibly (Spot 12). He also tries to get any sense of any hidden agenda the man has. (Sense motive 7)
In any event, he refuses to go down the lift with the family and asks the party to not go down with them as well. If they oblige, he will meticulously inspect the pulleys and cables as the family goes down. (Spot or Search 19)

In between the trip from the shopkeepers to the lift Caele will speak quietly with Bendis. "So tell me dear elder, why have you and your party been dealing with The Bruce?" Caele will look for any deception or false motive from him whatsoever. (Sense Motive 14)
Bendis Thursday September 25th, 2008 5:45:07 PM
Bendis looks a bit crestfallen at being called "elder", but does his best to cover it up.
"The Buh-Bruce? You know him? It was quite by chance really, we bumped into him getting off the lift, and the Bruce dropped his mask of the edge of the plateau. Giovanni over there actually leapt off the side of the plateau to get it back. Crazy." The portly dwarf shudders at the recollection.
"After that the Bruce couldn't do enough for us. Threw a buh-big buh-banquet for us and everything. But we don't really know him."
Zita Thursday September 25th, 2008 8:42:45 PM
With a wrinkle of her nose she shakes her head. "How many bugs am I going to attract with either of those?" Not that she hates bugs, but the thought that she would be a magnet for them does not settle well for her. With a glance to several of the others she shudders as she remembers many a long day spent shoveling out the manure piles. All the different bugs, flies and assorted other things they had found...god, even thinking of it now conjured up that smell.
As she stood and waited for the arrival of the lift she glanced around, looking at this or that but not taking too much precautions...though she knows that she should. To be honest, she was getting tired of running...though she would like to try a little bit of hiding. Not bothering to say anything she had even thought about cutting her hair and keeping it short...though she would never pass as a boy.

Rosario spends most of his time pulling Bedis from hawker to hawker. "Dragons to slay master dwarf, remember we have dragons to slay. No need to regrow your hair. Flames will just take it out anyway."
Rosario makes a couple adjustments to his gear, namely his weaponry. "Good Morning." he replies to the man, adding, "If there is room for all of yes, thank you for offering." Rosario will small talk the adult male, little things like are they moving, where are they headed, not pushing just curious. Answers from Rosario are vague, he will introduce himself as Antonino and fortune and glory are calling him from home. The rest are in his company, no he does not think he is in charge, actually they havn't gotten that far in introductions and planning come to think of it. Anyway good luck and fortune to you and take care.
At the bottom of the lift after wishing the family well, Rosario looks to the rest for an answer to Dextre's question. "As long as it moves away from Silence." is his interjection on the matter
Zita d20+7=25 ; Friday September 26th, 2008 9:44:51 PM
Zita makes her way onto the lift as the family makes room and she nods her head to the man and woman. As she stands leaning against the railing she watches the young girl playing and smiles. It would be so great to be that carefree again. Shaking her head she glances in the direction that is indicated and takes in the form of the bird, though it rankles her to allow it to survive she just sighs.
Letting Rosario do all the talking that she is not too good at she spends her time lost in thoughts of her own. Plus she is calming herself for the things that are ahead and she wonders what the kidnapping was all for. Was it a lure to get them to come out of hiding? How would the enemy know that they would do so, if it was?
When they finally reach the bottom she moves off to the side and looks around a little herself. Silently she wishes that her skills were a little more oriented to the outdoors, but she thinks she can do in a pinch. Without a word of warning she is soon searching the ground for signs of footprints and struggle that might have been left behind. Despite the length of time that has passed she figures that it is worth a look. The weather after all has not rained and this area being rather sheltered should allow for some signs to still be present.

Realising that Rosario is speaking of metaphorical dragons (at least, he hopes he is), Bendis follows along after and sits dead centre of the lift, eyes screwed shut, as they descend. When they reach the bottom he crawld off the lift, and it is some time before his pounding heart slows to a remotely normal speed.
He glances about, blinking shortsightedly, and gets to his feet. "Suh-so, where now?"

The breeze blows slightly as you watch the family you rode down the lift with go on their way. I has been about 24 hours since the crime occured and the areas has been devoid of any rain. From looking around their seems to be little disturbed. At least, that is how it looks until Zita happens upon some odd looking tracks off to the side along with some pipe droppings. Looks as if someone had been sitting here waiting. About 6 of them. They emptied their pipes and then there was alot of movement. Looks like a rather one sided fight and then someone was dragged over to the back side of the lift house. At which point they were carried off and placed in a cart. The cart tracks head off into the local fields.
Zita Monday September 29th, 2008 6:35:18 PM
A smile spreads across her face as she stay kneeling in that one space for a few minutes. "I think that I might have something of interest." Still in that same position she points out the tracks, pipe droppings and then the signs of a struggle of some sort. With a critical eyes she will move the group along a little to follow the signs...coming across the tracks of a cart.
Glancing to the group she cannot help but smile. "Glad you brought me along huh?" There is a flash of enjoyment in her eyes that tells you that she is enjoying herself. Even with all the people that must have been through here, this would most likely have been out of the way for anyone. "I would say at least six of them...maybe seven, but I only count six distinct prints." Glancing in the direction of the wagon tracks she cannot keep that same smile from lingering. "So...how you want to play this?" Yep, she finds the tracks and makes the others make a decision...and to think she is having so much fun doing it.

"So, what did you do before visiting Fort Silence?" Bendis asks his half-elven companion.

She does get a slightly pouty look on her face though as noone seemed to want to play along with her game. Not that she really needed a pat on the back or anything, just that they all seemed to want to protect her too much. Then again, she is the new Duke and she lets out an audible sigh.

The path leads on into the valley. A few times you can see that the wagon doubled doubled back around as if they were afraid someone would follow them. The day moves on and as dusk begins to settle you happen upon a diserted campsite. Looks like they left a while ago. As you look around and get your bearings you also notice that you have begun to turn back towards where you came from. In the distance, on a hill, you can see Fort Silence (Caele this is the place you and your party stayed at before the girls was taken). As the sun goes down you can see the lights being lit around the fort. As night falls an errie silence decends upon the area.
Giovanni Wednesday October 1st, 2008 4:36:24 AM
"I'm not liking this one bit." Giovanni whispers to the rest. "Lets make way for the Fort if we can make it in short time, otherwise, best probably to hold up here. Maybe no campfire, dunno, this place is creeping me out."
Dextre Wednesday October 1st, 2008 9:14:19 AM
Dextre says, "Well, this place is where the other folks camped, and there weren't that many more in that group than we have. Seems like this would be a reasonably safe place to camp. Of course, if they're long gone, I wonder if we won't have to push along harder to catch up with them."
Bendis Wednesday October 1st, 2008 12:05:24 PM
"Cuh-camp? Shouldn't we press on?" asks the dwarf, concerned. "If the perpetrator of the crime is heading for Fort Silence, surely we should make haste? The longer we leave the trail the cuh-colder it gets. Can you follow the tracks in the dark, Zita?"
Zita Wednesday October 1st, 2008 7:50:44 PM
Glancing around the camp she once again locates the track and their direction is enough to send cold chills down her back. "Fort Silence..." She should not have to say more for those that know what they are facing. This is one place that she had not thought of coming back to for awhile at least.
Her head turns to regard Bendis and she shakes her head. "I can but only with enough light to see...my eyesight at night is not that good, though....." She glances up to see how well the moon is going to light the way as she might be ok with just that. After all, she would hate to hamper the nightvision that she already has with a brighter light. With other things on her mind she moves to check the place that the fire was made and see if she can estimate how long ago they left. She will even check the tracks as well, as they sometimes can reveal things like that as well.

Rosario scowls, there were two places he did not want to go. Fort Silence was at the top of the list. "We would be seen, recognized and would alert the enemy to our exact location as word spreads that we had returned to Silence." The young man shakes his head as he speaks, "We are not going to Fort Silence." Rosario takes a couple steps closer to Zita and lets out a long sigh. "We simply can't Doeche." he says to her quieter but still audible to any nearby.
Rosario looks for something resembling a flat grassy spot and drops his pack. "Giovani is probably right on the fire too. I think we stay as discreet and therefore dark as possible. Pick up in the morning and see if the trail breaks away." Please let it break away Pantheon he silently prays. Drawing his sword, Rosario moves about 15' away from his pack, "I'll take first watch."
Caele Loregaard Wednesday October 1st, 2008 9:18:21 PM
Caele looks around at the group as he is pondering something. He clears his throat and nonchalantly makes a gesture when they have his attention (An old hand sign that normally only a guild thief would recogonize). He waits an equal amount of time for any type of response and then speaks.
He looks squarely at Rosario, "The woman Zita is a fine tracker and I'd wager she can stay unseen when she wants. The Elder speaks correctly in that we must go on. But.." He pauses slightly. "It would be nigh impossible to follow tracks--even on a fully moonlit night. Now if we had dogs it might help. I agree--stay here and camp. They know we're here and they know we're following them."
He turns to Zita. "You look soft but I don't think you are. I'm going to go observe the Fort. Any information you might have could be helpful. I don't know what history...", he pauses "or trouble you have there, but I might be able to gather some information and watch the fort for a while(if it's not too far away). I may be able to find out something useful."
And then to the rest of the group, "And I don't suggest you stay in this very spot. Get into a copse of trees aways off and stay there. Cold camp, double watch. Take my word on it."
He gets ready to sneak off to the Fort.
Dextre Thursday October 2nd, 2008 8:48:15 AM
Dextre listens to the discussion. When Rosario puts down his pack and mentions he'll take first watch, Dextre starts to look about for a flat spot without rocks to sleep. As he is sitting down, Caele makes his speech and mentions the trees and the double watch. Dextre nods and looks over at the trees gently swaying in the trees. Without getting up he says, "Double watch? If you're that worried about this place, then whoever did this kidnapping must be in with this enemy at Fort Silence, eh? Otherwise, they wouldn't have made it through the night."
He looks around and continues, "There's no sign of fight here, is there? Ah, no matter. I'm willing to take the first watch with Rosario anyway. I'm not that tired yet." He moves his things over under a tree, first looking up to be sure there's bird or animal about to leave a message on his pack. Then he checks his weapons and looks around.

"I'll take first watch with you, Rosario," Picci pipes up, "That way I'll have time to pray for the intercession of the Powers of Good first thing in the morning." Then she smirks. "After I've made us something to eat."
The jet-tressed girl sets about gathering the ingredients for a camp stew made of the preserved foods the party has on hand, utilizing her expertise in the culinary arts to make the food as appealing as possible. And as you begin to make camp the sun finishes its decent into the evening. Night comes on quickly. The moon is low on the horizon and is in the first stages of becoming full. It arcs over the silhouette of Fort Silence. It provides anough light to see, but not make out details. Nevertheless, the torches around the fort are still lit and from this distance those of you around the camp can see humanoid shadows moving all around the fort. For distance purposes the fort is probably about 1 - 1/2 miles away.
Zita pokes around the campsite looking for clues. You find nothing that would show signs of a fight or of anything out of the ordinary. The coals from the campfire are cold. You do not find any signs that they ate. Search DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { It is odd, you don't actually see any signs they stayed for any length of time. You merely see that a fire was started and put out at some time. The grass was flattened out as if people were here, but you find none of the common signs of people being here. No droppings, no remaining scraps of food, nothing extra burned in the fire, you also see no evidence of pack animals.}
Picci is able to whip together a stew of sorts from the surrounding vegetation, but the taste is rather bland. It will sustain, but not very happily.
Caele, you begin your trek towards the fort. It is not very far off and depending on how close you plan on getting easily approached. Please let me know what you are doing, how you are doing it, and what you might be looking for. Please make the necessary associated rolls and let me know the results.
For everyone else, the evening grows eerily cold. Little warms remains in your bodies. It is a damp cold. The night is silent and the stars begin to come out. There is an ever so slight breeze and you can hear it blow through the vineyards. Those of you who grew up here can remember being out on nights like this when you were younger and the feeling of freedom it gave you to be out this late in the vineyard. Being able to play and run through the rows. Now, however, that memory is forever marred by what you now know. In the distance you hear a long lonely howl. Its sound speaks to you of longing to find other like itself. And then from another spot a series of yips. As if saying you are not alone, just follow our voices in the dark.
Zita Thursday October 2nd, 2008 8:07:26 PM
Zita sighs and looks to Rosario with a nod of her head. "I know...but I cannot let those woman be taken without at least trying." Her eyes glance back into the darkness, not really liking the idea of being here or waiting either one. "I found no signs of these bodies eating or anything else. There were no signs of pack animals either...so we might have the wrong trail. Or they traveled on leaving decoys behind." She finds herself seated upon a rock, legs tucked up and hands holding her knees.
She glances to Caele and nods her head. She lets him in on a lot of the details about Fort Silence, though nothing of why they are hunted. For now at least he did not seem interested, though that bothered her a little as well. She watched his retreating back with a bit of worry and fear. With a last shake of her head, she let it go and just sat to stew over things.
Eating was not that hard and the food was not that bad, maybe a little tasteless but if you have eaten rations before...it was better. She does listen to the songs that sing out the night and she finds them drawing even to her. Though she likes the city enough, she has been raised in the wilds as well...or at least as much of the wilds as Fort Silence could give.
Giovanni Thursday October 2nd, 2008 9:24:34 PM
"Hmm, if the Fort is so close, why not spend the night there instead of out here in the cold." Giovanni shuddered a little as he wrapped himself in his blanket. He had missed mid morning meal, lunch, brunch, supper and now dinner was a bland fare in the least. He wished he had saved a little of the repast he had yesterday, but hadn't thought that far ahead. Rummaging in his pack, he pulled out some jerky he had squirreled away and slowly chewed on it, thinking of happier days.
Bendis Friday October 3rd, 2008 8:37:33 AM
Perhaps as a subconcious stratagem to block out the cold Bendis turns the current situation over in his mind, coming at it from as many angles as he can think of. Even the uninspiring food is consumed without complaint, the cerebral dwarf's thoughts a million miles away.
How, if at all, might this curious kidnapping be tied in to the Wold-shattering revelations they have uncovered? Were it not for the mention of the Ga'alian priest the dwarf would be inclined to think none at all, but he remembers all too well the curious link to Aisildur in the recent attacks on the Montdidiers. After all they have uncovered, that aspect of the mystery remains as impenetrable as ever.
However slim this lead, they must pursue it. They lack the power to confront the evil they have discovered. They don't know who to trust with the information they have found. All that is left for them is to uncover as much of the conspiracy as possible, in the hope that some vulnerability presents itself. And the fact that the trail is leading them back to the place where it all began suggests that they may well be on the right track.
So: why the kidnapping? Why were the villagers scared to speak to Caele and his companions? Was Laura a random victim or a specific target? And to what end? Sacrifice? Ransom? Or...
A sudden thought strikes him, and a chill spreads through him. Oh no, it couldn't be... could it?
"Oh gods...
Fuh-fellows, I think I might have a theory as to why that woman was kidnapped. Think about it; these parasites, these Th'lemen, they invade a host, right? And thereafter that host is utterly suh-suh-subsumed, a vessel for the Th'lemen, but indistinguishable from the orginal buh-being. And the Th'lemen, or S'thado, have some sort of plan to infiltrate and overwhelm the Wold, correct?
Well, how do you think a worm-like parasite manages to invade a host? If I were a parasite I'd infect someone in power, then use my subordinates to act as my agents, bringing me fresh victims to infect. Those victims in turn could go out and infect someone new: as they worked their way up the, ah, food chain (pardon the expression) the Th'lemen might cast aside the old shell and transfer to a new one. In that way they might quickly gain access to a person of power; a captain of industry, a high priest or a king. Start with a stable boy, move to a knight, then to a general. Absolute power in three steps.
Perhaps that's what's happened with Laura: perhaps these priests of Ga'al are led by a Th'lemen infected master. Perhaps their goal is nothing to do with Aisildur, but with the personal agenda of the Th'lemen leading them. Or worse, perhaps the entire heirarchy of the Aisildurian priesthood is compromised.
Whatever the extent, that would mean that Laura has been kidnapped in order to be infected with a Th'lemen. Maybe she knows someone the S'thado wish to target. or perhaps a person who knows a person.
Now, if that's the case, we'd be walking right back into the jaws of the enemy by continuing on our course. But on the puh-plus side, knowing our target, we might to once again disrupt the plans of the S'thado in so doing."
The dwarf tugs nervously at his beard and gazes into the starlit sky.
"Of course, I may well be wrong."
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Friday October 3rd, 2008 4:38:06 PM
Rosario's nose wrinkles, "I know Zita's skills." he answers. "What makes you think they know we are here?" Rosario will listen to whatever answer is supplied and then adds his agreement that moving off the actual trail and campsite is a sound idea and with that he moves a few hudred feet away. As the young man walks past Giovanni he just shakes his head, "We simply cannot and that will have to satisfy you for now."
Rosario leans back and watches the stars as the others settles and then stands to wander about the perimeter. His weapons remain in thier holders and he varies his pace and route so as not to be easily timed, or at least that is the idea. The night was fantastic and it seemed so much further back then 5 years when he was dropping out of his window and running off into the black of the fields to pick berries and grapes. 'Never did make anything more than a rather nasty juice.' he says quietly to himself while looking to the stars with a smile.
Rosario looks back over his shoulder and takes a few steps closer to Bendis as the dwarf works the problem verbally. Rosario tries to follow best as he can, by Pantheon Bendis could talk "Bendis. could you possibly sum that up for the rest of us?" Bendis does and the light flickers on slowly in Rosario's head. Rosario thinks it over for a few moments and then offers the advise of his father, "One of the best ways to survive a trap is to spring it. Given Bendis is right we keep going." he nods to Zita and then goes back to his route.
His mind drifts to Caele moving up to Fort Silence, to home. Home blazes, to his land and holding while he is forced to piss away here in the dark cold of night. Rosario spits on the ground in disgust, but regains his composure after a breif pause staring into the distant torchlights. No he would see things made right again. The family is looking to him and he will see it done. His right hand clenches, snapping and popping as it does so.

The watches go well. There is hardly any noise surrounding you and the moon soon goes back down leaving the night black. The chill goes away after some time as well.

"Quite right Picci. We should stay together at all times. Perhaps I should have mentioned that before Caele left..."

"So, with your experiences with those, well, 'worms' so far -- I understand they take over the host completely. Do they also take over the minds of the people, so that the new, um, 'shells' that are infected have all the thoughts and memories of the people, too? Because if not, I suppose we could come up with a secret phrase that we could always have to know if one of us had been infected and taken over. But if they do, well, I don't know any way to know that any one of us isn't infected at any moment..."

Rosario answers Dexre a melocholy tone to his voice. "We believe they subsume the memories of thier victims."
With the morning, hopefully Caele came back :) Rosario looks to Zita to pick up the trail unless Caele's recon turned up information that changes the general plan from continuing to follow.
Zita Tuesday October 7th, 2008 4:38:26 PM
Zita finds the waiting the hardest and though she tries to busy herself with this or that task, she really does not have much heart for it. Still she is ready and wiling to take a watch and even lend a hand when needed.
Otherwise she spends most of her time in silent meditation, though what she is meditating on is only clear to her.
DM Jamie Wednesday October 8th, 2008 12:02:06 AM Still waiting on Caele
CaeleHighlight to display spoiler: {, I am writing as if you made it up and back. You crawled through alot of the vineyard and finally made it to the clearing at the edge, about 300 feet from the fort. For the time you spend there you can see their is a constant guard. You can't tell if they are trained or not. You recognize a few from your stay.}
The night goes well. Those of you on watches notice their is movement all night at the fort. Not alot, but you can see their is some form of protection all night.
Caele returns after a few hours.
The sun rises in the morning and with it comes the warmth of light. The trail continues towards the fort.

"So, into the lion's jaws" gulps the dwarf. "Has anyone got any ideas about how to handle this? Should we just approach, or try to sneak in, or should we wear disguises?"
It's hard to imagine how one might effectively disguise the bearded, pot-bellied, spectacle wearing dwarf.
Dextre Wednesday October 8th, 2008 8:23:00 AM
"Having not been there during your last visit to the Fort, I'm wondering -- how, well, 'well-known' and welcome are those who were there? Are they going to demand your heads as soon as they see you? And what of the worm creatures? Do you assume that there are many that have taken many of the people at the fort?"
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet Thursday October 9th, 2008 12:18:43 AM
Rosario bites his lip a bit as he seems to be trying to come up with the right words to answer Dextre. It takes him a few long minutes before he nods, apparently having decided. "We do not want to go to protect those of Fort Silence. They will know us on sight and word will be through Fort Silence that we have returned before we even reach the wall. The more people who know our location, the more danger we and all of those around us are in. I do not think anyone at home has been taken, but if we return they likely will be. The enemy hunts us. We have slipped away and he is looking fo us. Anywhere except Fort Silence, we can just be adventurers. I can assure you Dextre, no one at Fort Silence would demand our heads."
Rosario wants to tell him more, it is obvious, but he stops speaking and looks to Zita with a nod and then gesture to start on the trail. Trust, such a simple word, but one the young man does not believe he will ever speak or give again. That was detroyed that night and was far to fragile a thing to be rebuilt.

Zita nods her head and lets Rosario have his lead on this one as she does not know exactly what to say. There is no way that she is going back to Fort Silence till all this mess is taken care of and she is assured of the safety of everyone.
With a last sigh she moves off to see about hunting those tracks again and see if she can help them to follow them. Of course she is more than willing to wait long enough for the new guy to show back up. She is feeling tired and stretched to the breaking point and this shows in her abilities with signs this day. Plus she cannot even bring herself to come up with any ideas of locations nearby that might be useable.

Dextre thinks a moment, then says, "I suppose then, perhaps we should consider quite extensive disguises again? Anything to make it less possible for the enemy to know our location would be better, would it not?"
DM Jamie Thursday October 9th, 2008 9:06:56 AM Game announcement: Got an email from Jerry last night. We are going to be suspending the game until we figure out what we are going to do. We are looking at canceling the game and absorbing characters into other games where you would adjust your character level or we are looking at the possibility of making a new permanent game and combining your game with the other one that is considering canceling. Jerry sent the email out to everyone if I rememebr correctly (I am at work right now). Please think about what you would like to do and email Jerry back with your thoughts.

An elf lingers just on the edge of vision. He seems to be watching Rosario. ;)
Rosario AC 18 HP 29/29 Sheet d20+2=17 ; Friday October 10th, 2008 1:23:52 PM
Rosario looks about, another long day of not much. The perfect kind of day, if you were Bendis. For Rosario the call to arms and the excitement and rush that came with combat made the time inbetween torturous. Perhaps he could convince Zita to go with him to The Floating City and become a gladiator. There he would hone his skills and plot the death of the Overlord. Vengence would be his and Justice would be served by his fathers sword.
DM Jamie Friday October 10th, 2008 8:41:29 PM
The morning breaks and you are all breaking camp. The movements go quickly and soon you are all ready to go.
As you begin down the trail towards the fort the devices begin to flood your minds with images. To those of you who were not there the first time the effects are a bit unsettling. It is like you are caught in someone elses memories and visions. Soon you are all lifted above your bodies. You can see yourselves moving down this path... or is it you? Something is different. It seems to be the day before. You see the campers from the previous night. They are trampling down as much grass as they can. They are heading towards the fort. Then their is a rushing of air and you are looking down at yourselves again. You can see Zita out front leading the group down the path.
Suddenly you can see a group of men numbering about 20 slowly make their way towards you through the vineyard. You try to yell, but you can't. Then you move towards the fort against your will. You can see from the uppermost window the woman who some of you once called mother. Smiling as the group nears the trap.
You are then pulled to the roof. Your grandmother is there. She looks right at you and with panic in her eyes says, "They have taken over the Fort. Almost everyone here has been infected. Run. Run as far and as fast away as you can. Spread like wildflower seeds in the wind. In one years time I will come for each of you. In one years time we will reveal ourselves to them."
You feel the rushing of air again as you are hurtled away from the fort and you come crashing down into your bodies. You are back to just leaving camp again and getting ready to move down the path. In the distance you think you can see a group of workers making their way into the vinyards. Looking about you all turn and begin to disperse, remembering the words of the grandmother and each of you understanding what must be done. Without a word you all turn and run.
In the distance from the fort you all hear a scream...
