Freedom's Landing Recap (DM Cayzle)
Thursday January 5th, 2023 10:27:38 AM

When our heroes met the group from Freedom's Landing, there were some suspicions at first. However, Trellus was friendly, and Grindar's history as a personal friend was key. But before much more than greetings could be exchanged, a dark enemy intruded. It was a force of dark druids and their plant creature minions. They had come, evidently, to disrupt this gathering and stop whatever coordination was intended.

A great battle ensued, and Grindar was slain! The dark druids were killed or driven off, their plants defeated. But the death of Grindar did cast a pall. Grieving, 'Osul, Trellus, and Moridark had little to say before embarking on the journey home. But they did communicate several key pieces of information:

- The Culverwood actually is comprised of several layers. It seems we are on the top layer, and as you go down, the layers get darker and darker.

- It seems that some of the denizens of the darkest layers wish to darken every layer, and there has been a struggle among the layers. One agent of change has been a number of black-sapped trees trying to kill normal trees and others.

- The Wardens learned, through commune with nature spells, how to travel between the layers.

- A group of druids and clerics of the Culverwood performed a ritual to darken the Culverwood.

At the conclusion of the battle in which Grindar fell, the remaining three Wardens set out for home.

Discussion turn to heading back.

Trellus remains silent.
The man takes in the trees, the river, the whole of the Culverwood.

After several moments, he nods to himself and turns to 'Osul and Moridark.

"My friends, we've woven quite a pattern. You gave me a way out of that pocket plane, and saved my life on multiple occasions.
But, I think it is time to say goodbye. I'm going to try and return to the Sargrass and learn more about my old home."

He nods formally to both.
"Thank you. Many shadows to you both."

With that, the blond man turns and heads off down the road.

"Many Shadows, Trellus!"
"Farewell, Moridark!"

At The Tree, 'Osul sets his affairs here in order. After seeing and speaking with many residents (and explaining the circumstances as best he can to a few), and settling things with James, he gathers up his things, reverts to the shape of a Russet Hawk and after one last flight around The Tree, peels off north towards The Wood.

[i]Despite the early ending, I have greaty enjoyed the last 8 years playing in this game. My thanks to the various DMs and players who have been part of this journey!

Moridark briefly embraces Trellus and Osul. The mage says nothing as he fights back the tears. He quickly turns towards the tree and gives he’s a wave to the only home he has known before teleporting away.
