Since then, a small house of Woldian Surface Drow have been found nearby (the Ust Delmah game). And a dwarf miner found a vein of mithril somewhere north of the Crying Woods, and an expedition was sent to make a settlement and mine at Bryn Baraz (The Uncharted Lands game). Now, all of that is recent history -- within the last five years, say. Now, there have been raids on caravans to Byrn Baraz.

Anyway, the Bryn Baraz expedition most likely left the Float on turtle-ferries traveling northeast, then made their way through the Woods to the foothills of the mountains, and then travelled between the mountains and the fringes of the Woods north. They did not see the drow settlement nor did they meet any reptiles. After leaving the fringes of the forest and striking out northeast, it took the caravan about 20 days, going say 10-15 miles a day across hilly badlands, to get to Bryn Baraz.
Although it is true that "civilization" did not extend out of the Elennian Peninsula for a very long time, it is also clear that a few people -- prospectors, fur hunters, hermits, and the like -- were thinly scattered north, east, and south of the Crying Woods. Before the Float popped in, those few were REALLY isolated, since it would take a land trip over the Scab to get back. Since the Float appeared in the Crying Woods, now there really is a Big City within a much more reasonable distance of the hinterlands. And so the population of loners, hunters, and the like has "exploded" -- that is, gone from under a dozen to hundreds in the last five years. Some are villains and bandits, of course, but some are preying only on nature, not on their fellow noble races.
