28th November 1996 TO PRESENT
Chapter 1: Sage Kenither engages the adventurers 28th November 1996 Wherein we meet Gareth, a brutishly repulsive man with muscles upon muscles; Jus, a handsome and nimble elf, bedecked of many weapons; Kolath, a weatherbeaten dwarf, and servant of Alemi; and the handsome and colorful yet wimpy mage known as Nonam Firstorlast -- and they learn of their first opportunity for a joint adventure.
Chapter 2: To the ruins of Elzid's tower 12th December 1996 On the way to the demolished tower, Nonam and Jus discuss books, as Gareth asks them to use smaller words. Raised on the family farm, we learn that Gareth enjoys getting out into the wide world, where he does not feel so tied down as when he used to work the plow.
A fellow named Gideon arrives on the scene, with some information on the evil wizard, Elzid. Gideon desires help to find his misguided childhood friend, Erilyn, who apparently had been in a relationship with the wizard.
At the ruins of the tower, the adventurers find a damaged gargoyle, corpses of a man and a woman, apparently adventurers, each with a swollen puncture wound in the neck. They pick up other bits and pieces, including a book - The Making of a Good Tyrant.
Earning jeers from Jus the elf, the heroic dwarf Kolath Swiftaxe grumps off the scene (never to be seen again), shortly before a half-orc, Kolok, arrives to offer his assistance.
The non-bookish Gareth finds in the Tyrant book a letter from the wizard discussing his infernal dealings, and 'nasty spells' to be found in the tome. After passing off the book to Nonam, Gareth notes and examines a cauldron up on the hill. Nonam looks over a book entitled Demonchildren: Childrearing in Hell (same book different title? different book??). Jus finds a jar of rose petals.
Some invisible creature attempts to poke Nonam in the neck, but instead stabs his backpack. The investigators try to locate the stabber(s), calling for a parley. Although no one responds, a rock dislodged reveals a dark hole in the ground.
