Berlon
Thursday January 31st, 2008 6:32:11 PM

"Yes, I know what he's like, Young Theo. I also know what he's like with a little cumin and some chili peppers...."

Once he is done teasing, he returns to the planning. "We could always just blow them up," he says in between munches of eel, "of course then you have to deal with rounding up the waterlogged. Come to think of it, the ship blowing up would be the easy part."

He smiles.

Wrapping up at the Blue Eel - DM Donna
Thursday January 31st, 2008 7:29:03 PM

"This is all we could do for you." Mask's voice says, and everyone in the group turns to see the Cloaks rep at Vauhwyt's elbow. (How does he do that?) "The Battle Leader hopes this is enough. Use your ring if it isn't." The ninja-like House member extends a scroll tube towards Vauhwyt. Inside it is a single Water Breathing scroll.

When everyone thinks to look back up again, Mask is gone.

Theodore & Macaw

"What, particularly, did we get?" Theodore asks. "I suppose we should go somewhere and work on our plan."

He looks around the crowded tavern. "You never know if there are unfriendly ears about."

Up on the rafter, Macaw seems to have dozed off.

Vorelle tries to think. Magic really isn't her forte. "Ummm...some k-k-kind of image. R-Ray of Feeble. H-Heroism. Shape W-Wood." She thinks a bit. "G-gas Form. That's a p-p-potion. Th-the others are sc-sc-scrolls."

Vauhwyt agrees with Theo. She seeks a private place in which to go over the complete details of the plan, and the resources they need to win.

[OOC: Sorry, real life keeps me from spelling out my ideas right now. I'll post again tonite or tomorrow to get it all down.]

Back to the Ship! - DM Donna
Friday February 1st, 2008 5:34:48 PM

The entire war-time crew for the Dark Horse Guild's ship helps to usher everyone out of the tavern and back aboard the ship for that last minute powwow.

Tara points out that going over the generally-intended plan should be all that's needed at the moment, since nobody is going to know exactly how the enemy is going to form up and attack until they actually reach the city.

DM OOC: feel free to post more than once a day, as I will be doing the same. My next intended post will begin on the morning of the invasion of Dirt City.

Hey, I am really having a rough time. Is this game going to end? Are we all to dsie off? How much longer do we play?

I am having a hard time writing anything, not having any idea of why Im writing it. Even in the GG there is some solid.

I guess what I am asking do we bow out of the game with dignity, or is there sopme DM plot to kill us off, or is this all a dream?

ACDM Cayzle

The official answer, my friends, is that the powers that be have allowed closing games a few extra weeks to tie up loose ends and finish current business. I'm pretty sure we have to be all done by the end of the month (end of February), but that still gives us the time we need to end the module.

My advice is to play it straight. What would your character do in the current situation? Your character does not know that the "game" is ending. I know Donna is a great story-teller, and I'm expecting that she'll give us a fun conclusion to our game and a way to go our separate ways with an exciting conclusion.

Vauhwyt
Saturday February 2nd, 2008 9:10:29 AM

[OOC: Questions for the DM are in bold. Also PC names are in bold for better reading.]

Just after lunch on the day before the invasion, Vauhwyt spells out her ideas for how to get the job done with what we have. The chat takes place on the ship, with the crew on the dock to keep alert for spies and enemies. Beekr is with the Dark Horse Guild in the planning.

The liontaur lists the resources the Cloaks gave us:

-- Ring of Communication -- use it to stay in touch during the battle. Berlon has it.

-- Hair, maybe from Darid. Vauhwyt will use it to cast a special avenger spell before we go in.

-- 2 scrolls of Minor Image
-- 2 scrolls of Ray of Enfeeblement
-- 1 scroll of Heroism
-- 1 scroll of Wood Shape
-- 1 scroll of Water Breathing

-- 1 dose large scorpion poison. Vauhwyt will put it on her armor spikes before she grapples Darid.

-- 5 vials of gaseous form potion.

-- Wand of Detect Traps - command word "Foofnikkar"

And we have our friend Beekr to help us.

Here is the plan that Vauhwyt suggests.

After sunset, we cast darkness and take the boat out in flat-boat (smallest) form. The darkness is to try to hide the boat as it leaves from the eyes of any spies. Maybe Theo makes an illusion of the boat still at the dock for a while as we leave, just to throw off people, if he has the spell in his head.

We find a place on the coast just outside the harbor past which an invading fleet must sail. We rely on Tara to figure out where that would be, unless Berlon can cast a divination to figure out the best place to park.

Let's say that we are in place by 6 pm. Tara spends some time telling us what the target boat and Darid look like. What are his classes? Does he have any casters? Are his traps magic or mechanical? What classes are his henchmen?

Casters go to sleep. After 8 hours we gets up and prep spells for an hour. Call that 3 am. Maybe Berlon gets his spells back at dawn? Vauhwyt is not sure exactly how clerics work.

Before dawn, Theo casts minor image to cover the boat with what looks like rocks and seaweed -- something not out of place on the coast. He concentrates on his spell.

Beekr, Mookie, and Macaw keep alert in the skies to see when the invasion fleet is approaching. With luck, maybe we can get five minutes to a half hour of warning. Beekr has to be careful to stay unseen, if possible.

Vauhwyt asks Beekr what he can do so far as hiding or shapechanging or seeing a long ways away. Does he have telepathy? From how far away?

So with at least five minutes warning, we start in with the casting.

Vauhwyt casts Message to keep people in touch as much as possible. Range is only 150 feet. At five people per spell, maybe she will cast two.

Vauhwyt casts Alter Self on Mookie, putting him in monkey form. He reads one of the illusion scrolls, taking over hiding the ship so that Theo can cast and go.

Vauhwyt casts her special Nemesis Insight spell.

Vauhwyt
Saturday February 2nd, 2008 4:23:54 PM

Revision to the previous post. Berlon said he needed things or time at his shop. So we might go there first before going to the boat.

Also, we need five empty waterskins.

So far these have been long duration spells, so the timing is not too crucial. Also not to crucial -- Berlon casts Water Walk on Vauhwyt and either casts or reads the scroll of Water breathing on all five of us -- that's at least two hours of water breathing each, which is plenty.

Theo, Oni, and Berlon might cast other long-duration buffs and such to help themselves now.

Vauhwyt also reads the Heroism scroll on herself now, and applies the poison to her armor spikes.

Timing gets a little trickier now. When the ship is about 5 minutes out, Vauhwyt casts enlarge person and expeditious retreat on herself. Huge Vauhwyt may well capsize the boat, so she may be water walking just off the boat at this point. Theo casts Invisibility on Vauhwyt.

Vauhwyt prays that Theo can cast invisibility. If not, she will have to cast Reduce Person and Darkness and try to sneak to the ship using her hide skill.

Berlon has to cast Owl's Wisdom on Vauhwyt so that in a few minute she will have a high enough wisdom score to read the wood shape scroll.

With the warning from Macaw and Beekr (Mookie is in monkey form concentrating on the illusion), we need to know when the Crimson Skull -- the target ship -- is within 500-750 feet. At that point, Oni, Vorelle, Berlon, and Theo drink the gaseous form potion.

The trick with gaseous form is that you move VERY slowly with it. Too slowly to catch up to the ship in the short duration of the potion. So after assuming gaseous form, fly into these four empty waterskins! Vauhwyt will carry the skins, and bring you all along as she expeditiously and invisibly water walks to the ship.

At the ship, Vauhwyt reads the Wood Shape scroll. That will take a UMD check, and she might have to try twice. The heroism will help.

She makes a hole in the side of the ship. Then she activates the trap wand. Then everyone (still in gaseous form) enters the ship through the hole. And then Vauhwyt drinks her potion of gaseous form and also enters the ship!

Once inside the ship, hopefully any close-by traps will be outlined by the wand. We'll be playing by ear at this point, trying to find traps, get to Darid, and fight!

Oh, and after Vauhwyt gets on the ship, please cancel the water walk!

That's the plan!

Answering Questions (No Battle Yet) - DM Donna
Saturday February 2nd, 2008 5:31:16 PM

Tara has already described Darid to the group: a very skinny halfling with dark brown hair and brown eyes that resembles "a little evil scarecrow." She can repeat that Darid has one particular henchman, the six-and-a-half-foot tall half-orc who is rumored to be a monk of some kind. His other henchmen are ones that he has picked up AFTER Tara's brief stint with him a year ago. (Don't forget the information that Liam told you about what little he was able to find out.)

Berlon should be able to get whatever spells he wants for the upcoming battle as long as he rests and then prays/meditates.

Tara has also stated that Darid uses a mix of both mechanical AND magical traps--and that he tends to use ones that are particularly nasty and/or humiliating in nature.

Beekr can fly. He sees much more acutely than humans do and should be able to provide an EXCELLENT lookout for the approaching enemy ships. He has no telepathy...and he cannot change his shape. Theo (I believe) was privy to some information about the avoral that he has yet to share with the party.

Vorelle

"H-h-how d-do we st-stop? B-being g-g-gas?" Vorelle asks.

She really doesn't want to turn into gas, but she's willing to do it if that's what needs to be done.

You stop being gas just by concentrating on stopping (a standard action, IIRC), explains Vauhwyt.

Dawn of War - DM Donna
Sunday February 3rd, 2008 11:08:11 PM

The eastern horizon of the Wold begins to morph from being the shades of blue-black that make up the night sky to the purple-mauve the heralds a rising sun.

Dawn is breaking, and there is a fog that hovers in the air, slowly swirling about the surface of Dirt City...and its immediate waterway.

The crew of the Dark Horse Guild's vessel is ready. The other contingents that the chosen Battle Leader seems to have managed to talk into defending the city are ready. Beekr stands ready to take flight on the orders of Berlon.

Soon the light is such that the avoral is gliding high in the sky, his acute eyes scanning for signs of the invading fleet.

It's only moments later when Macaw relays a message from Beekr: a mass of ships sailing towards Dirt City, with most of the ships manned by a mix of goblins and lizardfolk. There is a very excited tone to the familiar's communication...Beekr sees one particular ship, which would ordinarily be lost amongst the other vessels. However, this ship has clambering all over its deck a big half-orc dressed in the simple robes of a monk...

Theodore & Macaw
Monday February 4th, 2008 10:39:50 AM

"If we use the warp wood scroll to get into the ship, how do we sink it afterward? Instead, how about I cast a levitate spell on you so you can get to the deck. That way, we can save the scroll for after we're off and put a nice hole in the bottom of the boat for it to sink."

"Once on board," he continues. "Then we essentially carry on with the plan. Try to find Darid, sneaking about while invisible and such. If we get caught, I can cast some spells that should create enough chaos and distraction for us to continue on. To get off the boat, I'll cast a dimension door taking either Oni or Vauhwyt with me. Before I do that, I'll cast fly on the other taur so they can fly back to the boat with Berlon and Vorelle on top of them."

"How about that?"

LAST NITE

Before the fleet gets in, Vauhwyt tells Theo that she likes his ideas, and we should definitely use them.

That means Oni can carry and use the Wood Shape to hole the ship, and Vauhwyt does not need that Owl's Wisdom after all.

WHEN THE FLEET IS OUT OF SIGHT BUT MAYBE 10-30 MINUTES AWAY

Vauhwyt casts the following spells as soon as she hears that the fleet is in sight:
- Alter Self on Mookie.
- Message x2 (connects all so long as they stay in 150 feet of Vauhwyt)
- Nemesis Insight (scroll down), using Darid's hair. Does the spell fail?
- She puts her poison on her armor spikes.
- She reads the Heroism scroll (shared with Mookie until they part company)
- She casts Darkness on a small ring and puts it in her pocket where its effects are hidden away.

Vauhwyt asks Berlon to cast the Water Breath and the Water Walk. Also to use the communication ring to let Liam know that the invasion fleet has been sighted, including how many ships, etc.

Mookie reads the scroll of Minor Image and takes over hiding the boat. His UMD check is 22 -- he casts it on the first try.

WHEN THE CRIMSON SKULL IS A FEW MINUTES AWAY

Vauhwyt casts Expeditious Retreat, Jump, and Enlarge Person on herself.

She asks Theo to cast the Invisibility and Levitate spells on her.

She waits for everyone to be ready, then says, "Drink those potions and then hide here on me in my waterskins."

She casts Prestidigitation to make little lights to direct the gaseous friends where to go -- since she is invisible at the time!

SPELLS USED:

3 of 4 second level spell slots
0 of 7 first level spell slots (2 of 7 after casting Jump and Ex Retreat)

Vorelle and Champ
Monday February 4th, 2008 4:40:11 PM

Vorelle tries to rest that night, but pre-battle nerves make it difficult. Champ, picking up on his friend's distress, also has a hard time settling down.

Both ranger and dog are jittery and excited in the morning. Vorelle pets Champ a little harder than is strictly necessary, and wonders for the thousandth time what it will feel like to turn into a gas.

Champ barks at Mookie.

Berlon
Monday February 4th, 2008 5:21:35 PM

"Let's see if I have this right..." Berlon muses. He casts Water Walk on Vauhwyt, and then opts to use the scrolls to give everyone Water Breathing.

He scratches his head trying to remember everything, and then remembers, casting Owl's Wisdom on Vauhwyt as instructed.

Then finally, down the hatch! He drinks the Gaseous Form Potion, and burps slightly after he downs it.

Spells Used: Water Walk, Owl's Wisdom

Oni
Monday February 4th, 2008 6:51:53 PM

Oni looks at Theo.

"I have heard the phrase 'when pigs fly.' Bever heard it as 'when centaurs fly.' But so be it. Seems Vauhwyt has everything planned out.. Just tell me exactly where and what you want me to do."

Thar She Blows! - DM Donna
Monday February 4th, 2008 8:06:29 PM

The fog is definitely able to help the Dark Horse Guild maintain the illusion surrounding their own boat...although Tara bites back a choice curse or two as she has to navigate through the obscuring mist.

SPELL EFFECTS IN THE ORDER IN WHICH THEY ARE CAST:

- Mookie is now a monkey.
- Everyone is now effected by Vauhwyt's Message spell.
- Vauhwyt's Nemesis Insight spell appears to be active, as she isn't struck down by the displeasure of Jancasis for invoking the magic for a "frivolous" application.
- Not a spell effect, but Vauhwyt's armor spikes are now sufficiently poisoned.
- Everyone in the party benefits from the Heroism scroll spell.
- Vauhwyt has a ring with Darkness on it in her pocket.
- Vauhwyt now has Water Walk effecting her as well as Owl's Wisdom thanks to Berlon.
- Mookie is now in charge of maintaining the illusion on the Dark Horse Guild's boat.
- Vauhwyt is the beneficiary of Expeditious Retreat, Jump and Enlarge Person...although the boat rocks when she becomes Huge, it stays afloat.

Theo hasn't cast anything yet--he's only had the opportunity to ask about it.

Vauhwyt has NOT yet become invisible, and so doesn't need to cast the spell to direct the gaseous people into the wineskins. (Operative word: YET.)

Even with the foggy conditions, Tara is pretty sure she recognizes the Crimson Skull. She reckons she can maintain a position off the port bow of the enemy ship.

NOTE: the enemy ships are within sight of the Dark Horse boat now--be careful speaking as sound carries VERY well over water.

Theodore & Macaw HP 33/33 AC 16 (mage armor, gaseous form)
Tuesday February 5th, 2008 9:32:39 AM

Theodore starts casting spells, in this order: Mage Armor, See Invisibility, Stoneskin. (On Vauhwyt): Levitate, Invisibility.

He looks out over the water at the Crimson Skull. "Macaw, you'll stay here with the crew. Let them know when we're ready to come back so we can get out of here quickly, if need be."

He takes a deep breath as the tinglies begin to climb up his neck towards his hairline. "I'm ready."

Spells Active:
Mage Armor: 7 hours, 59 minutes, 6 rounds
See Invisibility: 79 minutes, 7 rounds
Stoneskin: 79 minutes, 8 rounds (took the 250gp off character sheet)
Heroism: 50 minutes

Vauhwyt  d20+17=29
Tuesday February 5th, 2008 4:33:15 PM

Vauhwyt is glad to get so many spells, not to mention the pleasant surprises like stoneskin! Sweet!

She uses her prestidigitation to direct gaseous formers into place. Then, when all is ready, she steps off into the water and heads out to the Crimson Skull! She heads toward the front of the boat, so that when she levitates up, she won't get left behind. She is moving silently. If she can catch the boat moving at half speed (35 = 70 feet per round), she will, in order to stay quiet. Otherwise she'll go faster (70 = 140 feet per round) and take the -5 to her checks.

Move Silent: 29 or 24 if she has to move more quickly.

[DM sanity info to come later]

A-Sneakin' We Will Go - DM Donna
Tuesday February 5th, 2008 6:35:49 PM

Berlon squints furiously and makes out the figure of a big beefy half-orc on the deck of the ship that has been identified by Tara as the Crimson Skull.

Theo casts Levitate and Invisibility on Vauhwyt. (DM OOC: The other spells--including the Stoneskin--Theo cast on himself. Nice try, though, Cayzle. ;D)

Even though Vorelle is the only player who posted that she was drinking her potion and becoming Gaseous, the other Dark Horse Guild members follow the plan and gulp their elixirs, too. (DM OOC: remember that you only have ONE of those potions left now, please.)

Vauhwyt uses Prestidigitation to guide her misty friends into their wineskins.

Vauhwyt then levitates over towards the Crimson Skull. As she is heading towards the enemy while it is (more or less) heading in her direction, the invisible wemic reaches the port bow of the ship in a mere two rounds, hovering at a spot that is about five feet above the surface of the water--the deckrail of the ship is perhaps five feet higher (maybe a little less) than her head.

"We'll be there in an hour," Vauhwyt hears a confident voice speaking in Common from the deck amidships, "Then Dirt City will know my true power...they'll be made to see what fools they've been to deny me my destiny."

There is an answering grunt.

"Come, then, Staven...let's go see what Shleesa's divinations show for the battle to come!" There are footsteps that seem to come a bit closer before fading away.

What the Huge Invisible Levitating Wemic Avenger Sees - DM Donna  d20+8=24 d20+2=21
Wednesday February 6th, 2008 6:00:40 PM

Vauhwyt is able to levitate up in time to see the skinniest halfling in the world marching over to the portal that obviously leads to the officers' area of the ship, closely followed by an over-muscled half-orc. In her haste to see the Dark Horse Guild's nemesis for herself, however, she brushes a little too close to the side of the Crimson Skull: the cap of the wineskin holding Vorelle softly scrapes against the damp wood.

From the perspective of the gaseous Vorelle (who cannot Spot anything as she is inside a container), the noise is akin to the ominous and overloud scraping of the door to a crypt being dragged open in the middle of a deserted cemetary at the midnight hour...it's all she can hear at the moment.

From the perspective of the understandably paranoid Vauhwyt the brief brush against the side of the ship is just like the screech of a banshee announcing the doom of the party.

She sees Darid and Staven pause at the door--did they hear? Or are they halting because Darid has to try one, two, three times before getting the slightly-swollen door to belowdecks open..?

Darid and Staven pass through the now-open door and let it fall shut behind them after going through it. The door itself doesn't quite shut.

(One round of time has passed.)

Oni, Vorelle, Theo, and Berlon are in gaseous form carried by Vauhwyt. Vauhwyt is invisible, hovering off the side of the Crimson Skull.

PCs can easily fly off Vauhwyt at any time if they like. They could even peek out I would think. But in gaseous form you are wispy, like smoke, not invisible. The DM did say a couple times that it was foggy, so you might be able to peek or even emerge and remain hidden -- especially if you made a decent Hide Check. But in gaseous form your move rate is only 10, so you are slow slow slow.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and I had assumed that Vauhwyt had put the caps back on, but Cayzle's post brings home the logical fact that capping the skins would not be something wise...so Vorelle could have peeked out and seen...that skinny little halfling and the half-orc monk(?) go belowdecks.

Vauhwyt

The liontaur sneaks over to the door, not touching any traps. Once there, she drinks her potion of Gaseous Form. She id pretty sure that that will free all her friends from their own hiding places. Or evict might be a better word. She motions everyone through the gap and into the chamber.

"The Parlor is Open!" said the Spider - DM Donna
Monday February 11th, 2008 9:04:25 PM

Just as the wemic uncorks her potion bottle, there is a slightly-muffled announcement that resonates from within the wineskin holding Berlon (who, if this DM recalls correctly, is the one with the Ring of Communication):

"This is K'Nara Illutu, leader of the Emerald Dragons...this is to let everyone in the Consortium know that the Emerald Kingdom is finally a nation freed from the tyranny of Parnoth the Green, and that the Emerald Dragons pledge themselves to the safety and security of all of its people."

The door to the decks below is cracked open so that gassy people...er...people in Gaseous Form...may go through.

(And, yes, as there are no caps that were screwed into place on those wineskins, the other people in Gaseous Form may move about at will.

One more round of time has passed.)

Oni will move through the door in Gaseous Form. All the while wondering who K'nara and these Emerald Dragons are.

Berlon
Tuesday February 12th, 2008 8:13:56 AM

After he follows with the others, Berlon maintains his gaseous form until he sees the others change back. He'll also let someone else get into the details about the Emerald Dragons, and wonders if they should play back that message for a certain pirate...

Play "Misty" for Me - DM Donna
Tuesday February 12th, 2008 6:42:49 PM

Everyone billows in through the door and into the narrow corridor beyond--the corridor is maybe four feet wide by twenty feet long and looks to be about high enough so that Vauhwyt and Oni (in their non-gassy forms) would likely have had to hunch over a bit in order to keep their heads from hitting the ceiling.

There are two doors on the right, two doors on the left...and one door straight ahead. Each of these doors look like very ordinary wooden doors.

Everyone must make a Listen check versus DC15--success means you can hear conversation coming from behind the furthest door from you on your right.

Hearing voices from one of the doors on the right [Listen 26], Vorelle begins floating in that direction.

As she moves, she looks at the door itself. Are there any cracks that the gaseous party might be able to flow through? [Spot 25]

Sounds & Sights - DM Donna
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 4:07:08 PM

DM OOC: a little early, I know, but I have to do this while I have access...

Everyone can actually hear the talking, but some (like Oni and Vorelle) can hear it better than others, and they can also immediately tell that the voices are coming from behind the farthest door on the righthand side of the hall...anyone else might think the speakers are behind the door that is opposite the one the party just "misted" around.

The conversation is in Common. The party's attention to the topic obviously begins in mid-sentence:

"--not anticipating any unexpectedly skilled opposition, but the numbers are there, though." Vauhwyt recognizes the voice as belonging to Darid.

"More than numbersssss, Sssssskull." a hissy sort of voice answers. "The Dark Lord warnssss not to underessssstimate the foe...elsssse thissss will be a tessssst you sssshhhhhall not passssss."

"Yes, you told me that before, Shleesa." Darid's reply is rather dry. "Which is why I've made sure to secure my little bit of extra...shall we say...'insurance'..? As long as I keep it safe, then nothing will happen to me but winning the battle and crowning myself Prince of Thieves!" There is a smug sort of chuckle. "Those fools will rue the day they didn't make me Prince."

Vorelle (and everyone else who looks) can see that the doors in this hallway are not watertight, so that it is, indeed, very easy for gas to seep around them through the cracks that occur where the door meets the frame.

If not, then Vauhwyt will cancel the Enlarge Person -- a purely mental action that she can do while gassed.

Either way, she follows Vorelle under the door in search of Darid.

Classical Gas - DM Donna  d20=6
Thursday February 14th, 2008 8:56:00 PM

CLARIFICATION (as requested by Cayzle...from Tuesday, Feb 12's post): "...the corridor is maybe four feet wide by twenty feet long and looks to be about high enough so that Vauhwyt and Oni (in their non-gassy forms) would likely have had to hunch over a bit in order to keep their heads from hitting the ceiling." This would refer to Vauhwyt's non-Enlarged height.

BACK TO THE ADVENTURE:

Gas begins seeping into the room that is about ten feet wide by twenty feet long--it looks to be some kind of mess (dining room), as it has a few tables set side-by-side within it. Inside the room are Darid, Staven the half-orc and two others: a bald human who looks to be wearing chainmail and a lizardfolk who looks diseased and has a holy symbol hanging about their neck.

Anyone making a Knowledge [religion] check versus DC10 or better will recognize the lovely unholy symbol of the beloved Marteaus.

The lizardfolk speaks:

"The time of tessssting isss at hand, Darid...are you ready..?"

So far none of the room corporeal occupants seem to have noticed the fog creeping into the room along the floor.

Vauhwyt is worried about the tiny passageway. She is worried about how to get the door open. She is worried that the halfling's escape artist check might beat her grapple. She decides to stay huge for now.

She cancels the gaseous form. She grabs her Darkness stone from her pocket and drops it. She grabs for the halfling.

(If the DM will not allow both drawing the Darkness and dropping it AND starting the grapple, then Vauhwyt will only start the grapple.)

Her touch attack to grab Darid, including a +2 for heroism, a +2 for being invisible, and a +2 for her Avenger spell, Nemesis Insight, hits a touch AC 23.

If the Darkness is active, then her miss chance roll is a 83 -- no problem, since a miss is a 1-20.

Her Grapple check is at +5 BAB +2 Str +8 size +1 feat +1 MW armor spikes +2 Heroism +2 Nemesis Insight = +21. Her grapple check is a 26. Her grapple damage is 2d6+2+poison. Her damage is 9. If this is stock large scorpion poison, then the fort save DC is 20 and the damage is 1d6 Str.

Oni suddenly appears inside the room that has four occupants in it--finding himself face-to-face with Staven the half-orc. Staven suffers 12hp of damage, as he is totally Surprised by the attack.

Theo suddenly becomes solid as well...but then successfully turns Invisible.

Vauhwyt also become a Huge Invisible Wemic who manages to also drop a stone that suddenly envelopes the entire area in Darkness. She also manages to grab hold of a tiny person who struggles furiously to Escape her grip...but his 21 versus her 26 means he is definitely not going anywhere at the moment.

Vorelle and Berlon are still gassy...er, Gaseous.

Everyone in the room was surprised...and they're all still in the dark, too, thanks to Vauhwyt.

For what it is worth, note that the quote "Darkness" unquote spell creates "shadowy illumination," not pitch blackness. Total darkness gives a 50% miss chance, but "Darkness" gives only a 20% miss chance.

If does, however, make sneak attacks impossible, because you cannot sneak attack a target in the concealment of Darkness.

Vauhwyt keeps grappling, trying to pin the halfling. Her grapple check is a 22 -- a natural 1! That is a failure! But she makes a heroic attempt to keep her grip and -- comes up short! The last time she dug down deep in a pinch was in that fight in the Arena, staving off that sleep spell. She's got nothing left (No more hero points!).

Well, she fails to pin the slippery fellow. But he will still have to beat her grapple DC to escape the grapple.

Oni feels one out of his two attempts to strike Staven actually connect.

Vorelle hovers about in Gaseous form.

Vauhwyt is simply NOT having a good day. She feels Darid's wild wriggling loosen him from her grasp...however he isn't free (only rolled a 29 versus the wemic's 30).

Berlon remains in Gaseous form.

Theo is now Shielded as well as Invisible.

As Vauhwyt is currently grappling with Darid and they are both definitely touching each other, Darid uses the opportunity to invoke a Curse: he curses the wemic trying to subdue him with Incompetency. Vauhwyt must make a Will Save versus DC16 or be the subject of a Bestow Curse spell effect that calls for -4 penalty on attack rolls, saves, ability checks, and skill checks.

Oni suddenly finds himself being subjected to a Flurry of Blows from Staven. Three blows hit AC13, 19 & 16 for damages of 10, 11 & 7 respectively.

"Sssstand and be tessssted..!" hisses lizardfolk cleric, who lifts up a rusty, pitted-looking morning star and swings it down on Vauhwyt's left flank, striking AC29 for 10hp of bludgeoning damage as well as invoking a Fort Save versus DC17 or Vauhwyt will instantly contract Filth Fever, suffering a 3-point loss to both Dexterity and Constitution! (Owies--the cleric made the roll to see if she could actually connect with the wemic!)

Vorelle
Tuesday February 19th, 2008 11:50:05 AM

Vorelle winces as Vauhwyt gets attacked from all sides. She cannot sit (or float) by and watch this happen.

She finds a spot to re-materialize, concentrates, and becomes solid once more. Quick as thought, her axes are in her hands.

Tuesday February 19th, 2008 3:37:02 PM

Vauhwyt tries to resist the curse: Her Will save is +8, and the heroism gives an extra +2, so that's a +10. Her roll is a 16 -- exactly what she needed! Wowsy!

Her fort save is also a +8, +10 with heroism. She rolls a 12! She is sickened! Her Dex drops from 19 to 16. Her Con drops from 14 to 11! Her max hp drops to 49! She has taken 10 hp damage, so her hp are now 39 of 49!

But the disease does not affect her grapple ability or grapple damage. She tries to pin the wriggly Darid: a 38 on the grapple check! That should hold him! She holds his mouth shut so he cannot talk. Hopefully all he can do is try to get free (and if he gets free, he only moves from pinned back to grappled, not all the way free!), and her Grapple DC remains 30.

The successful grapple attack also inflicts 8 hp damage.

Now that she has the halfling pinned, Vauhwyt wants to get out. "The doorr! The doorr! Open the doorr!" she calls, her accent strong with emotion.

Oni continues to knock the fear of the good gods into Staven.

Theo's Magic Missiles introduce the lizardfolk shaman to the world of pain--if the shaman wasn't acquainted with it already.

Vorelle becomes solid--and the room that much more crowded--her weapons at the ready.

Vauhwyt maintains her grip on the struggling Darid (just barely.)

Upon hearing Vauhwyt's desperate command, Berlon, too, becomes solid and lands on the floor closest to the door.

Staven uses his hands and feet to attempt to hit Oni--the blows hit AC15, AC20, and AC22 for 10/10/7 hpd respectively. Perhaps Staven should utilize his "Wholeness of Body" to improve his eyesight and/or aim.

The shaman hisses in pain, but maintains the attack upon Vauhwyt's hindquarters, the morningstar rising and falling again--and missing completely (OOC: rolled a natural 1 for the hit.) Thank goodness, because the wound in the wemic's flank stings and burns enough already.

For the Wold's scrawniest halfling, Darid sure puts up a heckuva struggle--however, his efforts are not enough to free him from Vauhwyt's single-minded mission to capture him. (OOC: Darid got a SUCKY Escape Artist check of 22 versus Vauhwyt's Grapple.)

And then there's the fourth member of the evil little band--oh, right...that OTHER guy! He has been fumbling with a pendant that he's wearing--but the struggles between Vauhwyt and Darid have knocked into him just as he was handling the pendant...and a single, glittering gold marble goes sailing through the air in an arc that seems to capture everyone's attention...

"Uh oh." says the human.

Anyone attempting to intercept the marble as it descends must roll bare-handed melee versus AC 19.

Vauhwyt decides to simply keep squeezing. "Vorelle! Berlon!" she calls as she squeezes, "Get this lizard guy! Or cure me!"

She continues to inflict grapple damage, grinding her armor spikes into the halfling as she holds his foul mouth shut. Her grapple check of 27 does the job. Her damage is 13.

She has now inflicted 9+8+13 = 30 hp damage on Darid.

Cayzle pouts and has a little tantrum
Thursday February 21st, 2008 5:10:56 PM

as far as I can tell, EVERYBODY -- both DM and PLAYERS -- is ignoring my darkness!

EVERY attack (except grapples once initiated) should come with a d100 roll, and fails on a 1-20!

You could argue that it does not matter, since everyone has the same 20% miss chance, but the thing is, if the battle goes longer, I have more time to squeeze the stuffin' out of Darid.

Sorry for ranting!

Oni's blows result in the half-orc he is beating on slumping to the ground.

Theodore Highlight to display spoiler: { After miraculously catching the glittering "marble" in midair, the spellcaster is able to get a closer look at it by squinting REALLY hard in the Darkness caused by Vauhwyt's bewitched coin. However, Theo's studying and skill make him reasonably sure that he now holds an ACTIVATED sphere of Delayed Fireball.}

Vorelle finds herself raining blows upon the human that had lost his marble.

Vauhwyt continues to grapple with Darid, whose struggles are getting markedly weaker. (OOC: the poison on the wemic's spikes have weakened the halfling, robbing him of 4pts Con.) He continues to attempt to get out of her grip, but also continues to have horrible luck doing so (OOC: only got 26 on his Escape Artist check. Why can't Vauhwyt be doing something that calls for Darid's trapmaking ability??? ;D)

Berlon reaches out and smacks where he believes Vauhwyt to be, muttering the benediction to invoke Remove Disease, thus removing the detrimental effects of the shaman's strike.

Staven is out cold on the ground.

The lizard cleric swings that morning star, missing Vauhwyt in the Darkness. (OOC: I remembered to roll THIS time! Ha! oh...dang)

The human that Vorelle is smacking around now hurriedly tries to draw a sword.

Darid's struggling is getting weaker.

Sunday February 24th, 2008 12:50:55 PM

Vorelle smacks her opponent around three out of four times. It seems VERY effective, as one can hear the ping-ping-ping sounds of little round metallic objects hitting the floor. (AC19 to hit the human.)

Oni's attack bounces ineffectually off the hide armor that the lizardfolk cleric is wearing. (AC20 to hit the cleric.)

Vauhwyt's strength and determination keep Darid her prisoner.

Theo inexplicably races out of the room, down the passageway and over to the door where he manages to hurl the glittering "marble" overboard.

The human that Vorelle is damaging shrieks a very bad curse word in a high-pitched voice, adding in Common: "All of the missiles just got yanked off the necklace! We've got to get out of here!" Then he attempts to run--he manages to see his way in the Darkness well enough to not get tripped up by furniture or bang into people, but his retreat is not a straight line, so both Vorelle and Oni get Attacks of Opportunity on him.

"Foolishhh human! Relying on sssssuch tricksssss!" hisses the lizardfolk shaman, who moves to withdraw from the room. The shaman also avoids tripping all over furniture and/or people, and Oni can get another AoO on this one's attempt to leave the scene of battle.

Darid finally manages to break away from Vauhwyt (made a 35 on his Escape Artist check), and begins shrieking at the top of his lungs: "ENEMY ON BOARD! ENEMY ON BOARD! OFFICER'S MESS!" He then disappears from view.

Monday February 25th, 2008 10:24:42 AM

(OOC - Note to DM, Theo has see invisibility active, so he should be able to see anyone, or thing, that's invisible.)

Theodore hears the commotion coming from the room where his friends are. He spies out the door leading onto the deck to see how many of the enemy there are.

If there are more than four bad guys, he will step out onto the deck, and move away from the door, with a bit of phosphor and a crystal prism in one hand. He draws an arc with his other hand and the phosphor disappears as a circle of flowing colors appears above the deck of the ship. (Cast rainbow pattern; Rainbow Pattern)

If he sees any invisible people (for example, Darid), he hollers for his friends.

Vauhwyt sees the fireball beads tumble to the floor, and shouts, "Wowsy! Head for the hills!"

She cancels the Enlarge and moves 70 feet (up to 35 feet squeezing at half speed) out to the main deck.

If she needs to tumble around or through people or obstacles, then her tumble checks are 23 and 25.

As she moves, she takes out a Grease scroll.

At least that takes care of sinking the ship, she thinks,

On deck, and hopefully out of the blast radius, Vauhwyt may be subject tot he Hypnotic pattern of colors Theo made. If so, her Will save is a 21.

She shouts to Theo, "WHERE IS THE INVISIBLE HALFLING??"

She readies her scroll. As soon as Theo points, she will cast it on that area, hoping to slow down the halfling.

Damage on Darid: 42 hp.

Vorelle attacks...the air...with a vengeance, but without hitting anything but air, either.

Oni's attacks yield similar results.

Theo sees that there are crew members beginning to converge on the entrance to the decks below (about seven so far)...he casts his spell--and sees Darid scurrying up the hall onto the deck in time to arrive smack dab in the middle of the Rainbow Pattern spell.

Suddenly there are eight halflings standing around on the deck, Fascinated by the "preeeeetty colors..!" (Every one of them blew their Will saves.) One of the halflings, of course, is Darid.

Vauhwyt emerges from the passageway onto the deck--and sees the Rainbow Pattern, too. Fortunately the spell seems to have used up its effectiveness on the Fascinated halflings (including Darid.)

SUDDENLY a Fireball boils up out of the water beside the ship! Theo notices that it is in the general area where he tossed that Delayed Fireball bead earlier. Fortunately, between the water and the fact that the Crimson Skull is still sailing towards Dirt City, the ship suffers no damage.

Oni, Vorelle and Berlon are still belowdecks with the attempting-to-flee lizardfolk shaman and human, who are right behind Vauhwyt...who is blocking the door.

The shaman is the closest to the wemic and strikes out with that ever-present morning star, hitting AC12--meaning that the blow neatly misses Vauhwyt.

The human is a little too far away to be able to reach Vauhwyt this round.

Theodore HP 33/33 AC 20 (mage armor, shield, stoneskin, dodge vs lizardman)
Tuesday February 26th, 2008 1:56:44 PM

"There he is," Theodore says to Vauhwyt, pointing at the invisible Darid. "Don't attack him or you'll break the spell. Just try to grab him. When you do, I'll cast a spell that will allow Oni to fly. He'll tie a rope to you and fly you off of the ship with Darid. You still have levitate on you so he'll just be dragging you along with him. Then I'll cast another spell on myself, Vorelle, and Berlon to bring us back to our ship."

Throughout these instructions, he continues to focus on his spell that is keeping the sailors and Darid occupied. "Make it snappy, please. I'm fairly vulnerable, right now."

Combat Round 7 - DM Donna
Thursday February 28th, 2008 3:47:47 AM

Oni's weapon strikes the lizardfolk shaman, who shrieks, grabs the unholy symbol that is hanging around their neck and then suddenly disappears with a "pop" of imploding air.

Theo and Vauhwyt work together to capture the Fascinated Darid.

Vorelle lays the smackdown on the human, who apparently doesn't have hit points worth a darn, as he goes down like a sack of wet levee sand.

Berlon produces a length of silk rope and holds it out for Oni.

"Didn't I tell you all before..?" the gnome says a bit smugly, "...you can never have enough rope!"

Everyone who was effected by the Rainbow Pattern spell is still utterly entranced by it.

Theodore HP 33/33 AC 20 (mage armor, shield, stoneskin, dodge vs lizardman)
Thursday February 28th, 2008 9:23:06 AM

Theodore sees Vauhwyt successfully snatch Darid and Berlon steps up to offer Oni a length of rope.

"All right," Theodore says, moving to Oni. "Let's get out of here!"

Theodore ceases concentration on the Rainbow Pattern. (Spell remains for 8 more rounds)

To soar and glide high in the sky

Theodore finishes his incantation and touches Oni with a black feather. (Casts Fly on Oni.)

"Quickly, now. Tie the rope about Vauhwyt and fly back to the ship. The rest of us will meet you there in a moment."

He then calls out to Berlon and Vorelle. "Touch my hand and I will take us back to the ship. Our task is done, here."

Oni, Vauhwyt and the Fascinated Darid lift off with the Drowtaur towing the other two thanks to the silk rope.

Berlon joins Vorelle in touching Theo.

SUDDENLY there is a great roaring sound and the entire ship rocks violently--Berlon, Vorelle and Theo must make a Reflex save versus DC 15 or be knocked off their feet (thus breaking contact) by the sudden eruption of gods-know-HOW-many Delayed Blast Fireballs below in the room everyone so hastily abandoned.
