DM Kathy Sunday November 2nd, 2008 10:37:53 PM
While Zeph and Kiel speak with Dulcet, the rest of the group speak among themselves. Axara explains more of her background. Selemar doesn't get her, believing it's because she's human. Since human Hmark doesn't seem to understand either, though, it may just be that they don't understand women. Or perhaps it's something else.
Rollo keeps a wary eye on the Codex while he works on his project.
"Hello, Zeph," Dulcet greets him. "Kiel was just filling me in on what happened." She gestures for both of you to be seated, choosing a perch for herself on a straght-backed chair. Her expression is sorrowful. "I am sorry to hear of your troubles," she says. "Sebastian has been dealt with, you say. Are the others all right? And, did you retrieve the Book of the Guided Way? I think perhaps you did, but I must confess that my divinations have become very murky of late. The fate of the Codex is no longer clear."
Kiel [AC:18 - HP:26/26] Sunday November 2nd, 2008 10:57:34 PM We aint bringing anything here. So, not to beat around the bush, what's next on the agenda.
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Sunday November 2nd, 2008 11:35:20 PM
OOC: I thought Kiel and Zeph brought the book of Guided Way to Madam Dulcet to read and find a potential way to get rid of it.
Axara hears Selemar's comment and Hmark's reaction and she points to that at Rollo speaks.
"Easier said than done my gnomish friend. Sadly I care about what other think of me. "
Selemar Monday November 3rd, 2008 9:23:41 AM
[b]"I'm not sure why you care. Your race puts a great deal of emphasis on what women should do, or men. it's not our way. You have gifts few men master."
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Monday November 3rd, 2008 10:38:52 AM
Axara looks at Selemar and gives him a tired smile. "We humans do not have the luxury of centuries of lives. We also do not have the natural grace and beauty that elves do. We have limited years to make something out of our lives. May be you did not have expectations growing up. But I did and I did not meet any of them in my father's eyes. I might have some skills but so far they have been useless in preventing people from taking our banana nor identifying a traitor I gave my friendship to. So forgive me if I feel a little down."
She shakes her head and her hair falls back on her shoulders. She readjust her robe to cover her legs and bust and goes back at starring at the embers of the fire.
Zeph AC17 HP25 Monday November 3rd, 2008 10:52:19 AM
Zeph eyes Kiel a little bit. He still doesn't trust Dulcet... yet he doesn't care if everyone knows were here.
"Kiel. I think we can trust Dulcet. I don't think we can trust her servants, or any civilians in the area. Lady Dulcet. We have the book, and we get the sense that you want us to destroy the Codex and the book of the Guided Way will be used in the process. Correct? SO, that is the next step in the process. Zeph says to Lady Dulcet, and nudges towards his backpack when he says the name of the Guided Way book, signifying he has it with him, but trying to not let Kiel see.
Zeph AC17 HP25 Monday November 3rd, 2008 10:53:17 AM
(OOC: Correction: I should have typed "What is the next step in the process?)
Rollo[AC:21 HP:29/29] Monday November 3rd, 2008 11:14:30 AM 'Fathers are fathers no matter how long you live."
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Monday November 3rd, 2008 12:28:52 PM
Axara looks at Rollo and bites her lips and try to contain some tears. "Yes wise riest, Fathers are fathers. Some are kind and caring and accept their children for who they are. Others have expectations and dreamd and cannot stand having a child who is different and wants different things. some fathers give their love inconditionally and some others withdraw their love."
She takes a pebble and throw it in the fire as silent tears run down her cheeks.
Hmark Monday November 3rd, 2008 6:16:51 PM
Hmark stirs uncomfortably as Axara speaks. The young man can't shake the feeling that doing or saying pretty much anything will be wrong.
And so, he doesn't say or do anything.
DM Kathy Tuesday November 4th, 2008 12:09:42 AM Kiel is very cagey about what the group has found. "You didn't find the book then," Dulcet says. "That's a shame. In that case, we should try to locate another copy--"
Zeph interjects at this point, explaining that the book was found, but that the group has security concerns. "I see," Dulcet says. She thinks a moment. "Our next step, then, is twofold. A scholar must be found who can study the Book of the Guided Way and glean the information it contains. I had planned to undertake the task myself, but if you have concerns about security, you are welcome to find a scholar yourselves.
"I have not been idle while you were away," she continues. "My studies have led me to believe that a minor artifact called the Mercy of the Gods will aid us in the destruction of the codex. I would therefore ask you to retrieve it.
"Mercy of the Gods," she continues, "is a brazier sanctified to both Flower and Pantheon. Its last known location was that it was being carried by a group of the devout on a pilgrimage to Aisildur. The pilgrims did not reach their destination, but disappeared somewhere in the vicinity of Shadow Mountain. To find the brazier, you will need to travel to Shadow Mountain and investigate further into the fate of the pilgrimage." She smiles a little. "You probably want horses for this."
At their campsite, the rest of the group continue their discussion.
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Tuesday November 4th, 2008 9:49:14 AM
Axara has turn silent, waiting for Zeph and Kiel to come back.
Zeph AC17 HP25 Tuesday November 4th, 2008 11:07:45 AM
Zeph looks at Kiel again, worried as to what the Ranger's opinion may be at his next action.
"It would be a waste of time to search for another scholar. But you must understand that we are finding it hard to trust anyone, especially being that you hired Sebastian in the first place." Zeph says as he reaches into his backpack and takes out The Book of the Guided Way.
"Confirm what we must do to destroy the Evil Codex and it will be done." Zeph says, respectively.
Then, as an afterthought. "Could you purchase some items from us that we picked up along the way, and then just trade them to a merchant yourself? We don't want to be seen by many townsfolk, you understand, so selling our items through you may be the best option." Zeph says, thinking of the cart still full of loot.
(OOC: So, I still have the loot list that Sebastian made before he turned traitor. Want me to add Sebastian's items to it and do the math to see how much everyone gets?)
Selemar Tuesday November 4th, 2008 11:57:50 AM
Listens to Axara, and tries to figure out humans.
Rollo[AC:21 HP:29/29] Tuesday November 4th, 2008 2:01:57 PM
Rollo enjoys the night air.
Kiel [AC:18 - HP:26/26] d20+3=10 ; d20+4=22 ; d20+7=11 ; d20+7=23 ; Tuesday November 4th, 2008 2:15:22 PM Did I say the book wasn't found? No, I said we weren't bringing anything here. Gives Zeph an Icy glare when he produces the book
Fine. I will go back, inform the group and get a list made. In the meantime, Zeph, you stay here with pause them and Axara will return with the list.
And with that said, Kiel gets up without another word or gesture, lets himself out of the home, mounts Phoenix and heads back to the group, in a round about way, watching closely for anyone following.
DM Kathy Tuesday November 4th, 2008 11:39:15 PM
Dulcet accepts the book from Zeph, with a cautious glance at Kiel. "I will need time to study this," she cautions you both. "I won't have an answer for you right away. But I will be glad to devote my efforts to it."
Regarding the loot, she says, "If you are concerned, perhaps it would be best if I simply bought the items from you. I can dispose of them to various merchants, quietly, over time. Also keep in mind that there is an entrance to the Catacombs in town. You should be able to slip in and out of there without drawing too much notice."
At the camp, you see Kiel arrive on Phoenix.
Kiel [AC:18 - HP:26/26] Wednesday November 5th, 2008 2:47:29 AM
Once arriving, and making sure he wasn't followed, Kiel ties off Phoenix to the wagon, then goes to the campfire, hunkering next to it while warming his hands. An obvious look of displeasure across his face.
After pouring himself a cup of waterever is there, and taking a swallow, he turns to the others and relates Everything.
Guess it's goosechase #3 time. And that freaking Zeph, why doesnt he just hand her everything and get it over-with.
After draining his cup and pouring him another, and draining it, he turns to the others: Ok, someone make us a list, also, put everything in the wagon that needs to be sold. Seems he is gonna sell it all the her so we arent seen in town. And make a list of provisions you think we will need for this jaunt including a huge load of grain, hay and water casks for the horses. Oh, did I mention, she's gonna provide everyone with a horse. My advice, take it even if you are planning on using the wagon for transportation. Fresh replacement steeds wouldn't be a bad idea.
While he waits for the list and the wagon to be situated with the sellables, Kiel tends to his faithful steed with a good rubdown, and feeding.
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Wednesday November 5th, 2008 11:16:03 AM
Axara listens to Kiel in silence. When he is done, she shakes her head "Kiel, do not be so harsh on Zeph. It makes the most sense to use Madam Dulcet. She is a person of Good. You might question her judgement regarding who she hires but her intentions are good.".
She pauses, waiting for Kiel's reaction, hoping she has not offended the man.
"Regarding the wild goose chase, if it is what it takes to protect my Mother and Sisters from harm, so be it. Trust me I would rather take hot bath in pearl tub but I decided to keep them safe. Who will be riding the cart back to Madam Dulcet?"
Selemar Wednesday November 5th, 2008 3:27:05 PM
"Dulcet might be good, but she's lost the book and trusted Sebastian. I'd say we should hurry there before the book vanishes again."
Gets in the cart
Hmark Wednesday November 5th, 2008 10:34:47 PM
"I'll go," Hmrak volunteers in response to Axara's question.
"Basically, we need a horse for everyone, and food and water for what, ten days?" Other than that, we still got everything we took to the monastery."
With that, the archer gets up to accompany Axara back.
Zeph AC17 HP25 Wednesday November 5th, 2008 10:51:58 PM
Zeph looks at Kiel as he leaves and then speaks to Dulcet. "We have an issue with trust now... as you can see. Please forgive him. We will go and try to retrieve the Mercy of the Gods and bring it back here... that is if I can persuade my group to not simply throw the Evil Codex into a volcano... what would be the repercussions of that by the way?" Zeph says.
Then Zeph thinks some more and looks at Dulcet, "I'm really trying to keep the group going down the right path... but it seems that everyone has a different opinion as to what the best, even now I bet Kiel is badmouthing me for giving you the Guided Way book. Do you have any leadership advice so that I could get everyone on the same page? I fear the failure of this mission if they decide its best to hide the Evil Codex, rather than destroying it like you plan for us to do." Zeph says, worry in his voice
DM Kathy Thursday November 6th, 2008 12:39:53 AM
[OOC: Addison, can you set the loot list to public?]
At your campsite, you discuss your needs for the upcoming journey. Travel will be easier if everyone has a horse. Will you trust Dulcet to acquire these for you, or will you risk the farmers' markets in the Valley? Similarly, will you be buying your own grain and foodstuffs, or relying on Dulcet to obtain them?
Finally, does anyone want to obtain or upgrade any magic armor, weapons, or other magic items? That needs to be done at the Catacombs.
Dulcet winces a little at the though of throwing the Codex in the volcano. "Well, that would probably destroy it," she tells Zeph. "The magical backlash would almost certainly annihilate anyone standing close enough to have thrown it in. Probably, the volcano would erupt, killing anything nearby. There's a chance, albeit a remote one, that it could touch off a cataclysm that would destroy the entire valley.
"Let's call that Plan B, shall we?"
When Zeph asks about leadership, and moving the group in the right direction, Dulcet smiles sadly. "Zeph, nobody can make anybody do anything. Your friends must choose their destiny, as you must choose yours. Give them the benefit of your wisdom and experience, and listen when they try to give you theirs. Remember that, as there are many paths to defeat, there can be more than one road to victory."
She clears her throat briskly and rises to her feet. "There. That's the best I can do with cryptic wisdom. Look after each other, and do your best."
Zeph AC17 HP25 Heroes Loots2 Thursday November 6th, 2008 10:04:49 AM
Howabout now? Does it work?
I presume the way we were going to divide loot was that any claimed item's value is subtracted from the total they would recieve from the final split correct? So, for example, if everyone would end up recieving 500g from the total sales, and I accepted the MW Rapier at 300g, then I would only get 200g correct? (This is only example numbers, not actual)
Also, does anyone want Sebastian's potions or we gonna sell them?
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Thursday November 6th, 2008 10:59:34 AM
As Selemar and Hmark jump both in the wagon, Axara climbs down. "We cannot leave Kiel alone with rollo and the banana. We need 2 sets of eyes watching each other. I will stay if needed. "
OOC: What are the potions?
Selemar Thursday November 6th, 2008 2:27:07 PM
"Or we can all go"
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Thursday November 6th, 2008 3:42:19 PM
Axara giggles and the laugh is a welcomed sound after the dread of the past few days "Elven Wisdom at its best. LEt's all go!!!!"
Hmark Thursday November 6th, 2008 8:51:57 PM
"That works for me, too" Hmark responds, eagerly. The man is clearly pleased that the group seems to be working on becoming more cohesive. "Personally, I've been riding Dulcet's pony here for the better part a two weeks with no problem. I say let's take the short cut an' let her equip us."
As for the loot - "I'd kinda light that magic mithral shirt," he remarks. "I got non-magical one (Mithril Chain Shirt) I can give back."
Zeph AC17 HP25 Heroes Loots2 Friday November 7th, 2008 12:45:01 AM
Kiel got the magical mithril chain shirt remember?
Also, the items from sebastian are in the link. a CLW pot, hide from undead pot, sleep scroll, and comprehend language scroll
DM Kathy Friday November 7th, 2008 12:46:12 AM
Gathered together once more, you make a final tally and distribution of the loot. You decide to allow Dulcet to acquire the animals and supplies for you, and begin dividing and claiming the treasure.
Looking around, you can also see that your party is understrength. Perhaps it might not be a bad idea to recruit another swordarm or two--if you can find people you can trust.
[OOC: If anyone wants to claim a prior acquaintance with Feyjarl or Garret, you can go ahead and post such in character, or you can discuss it via email. I recommend using email to divvy the loot.]
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Friday November 7th, 2008 9:18:19 AM
Axara returns with the group to see Madam Dulcet. She is happy to see the witch but the recent events weight to much on her mind for her to speak.
ooc: Will take the CLW potion if no one else want
Kiel [AC:18 - HP:26/26] Sunday November 9th, 2008 11:14:30 AM
checking in
DM Kathy Monday November 10th, 2008 12:11:29 AM
After a couple of days, you return to Dulcet's to pick up your horses. Kiel has Phoenix, of course, and Dulcet is willing to continue to let Hmark use Stardancer and Zeph use Shadow. Wintershine, however, is needed at the estate.
Dulcet has acquired a grey pony for Rollo, and two mares for Axara and Selemar; one roan, the other chestnut. [You get to name them. If you want to.]
She also has feed and supplies for you, though not many. "Much of your route will be pretty well-traveled," she explains. "There will be inns on the way, and towns where you can buy food."
She also has the coin for the goods she is to sell [although you guys need to determine the exact amount. It's up to you to decide who gets what, and which items you're selling.] "Is there anything else you need?" she asks.
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Monday November 10th, 2008 1:20:22 PM
Axara looks at the Riders such as Kiel and Zeph. "Am I supposed to be able to ride that mare? I have never learned how to do that. Will some of you be kind enough to teach me the basics?'
She looks at the horse she has been assigned to and shakes her head. " I feel sorry for you poor philly, being stuck with me. And do not worry, I will insult you by given you a name. I will call you "Miss Mare until you decide you want to tell me your name. I am Axara."
The horse looks at her completely ignoring the strange talk.
OOC: Axara has no rank in Riding, just a +1 in DEX. Can she ride?
Zeph AC17 HP25 Heroes Loots2 Monday November 10th, 2008 3:16:18 PM
Ok. So the total value of everything found and everything sold (from replacing pieces of armor ect) would be 8910gold. Divided by 6 would be 1485 each. Then you just take that and subtract what you claimed, and add what you donated back to the group. For example, Kiel claimed the Mithril Chain Shirt +1 for minus 1890gold but donated the Mithril Chain shirt back for plus 990 gold. Here are my totals, everything claimed is on the sheet published on google.docs. Now, you can still sell anything you want to the catacombs and you keep the full amount.
Zeph AC17 HP25 Heroes Loots2 Monday November 10th, 2008 6:40:20 PM
Zeph sees everyone come back up to Lady Dulcet's house with the cart and takes out some ink and paper and begins writing everything down.
"Ok, so Kiel claimed the Magical Chain shirt, I claimed the Masterwork Rapier and Composite Longbow. Selemar Claimed a Masterwork Longbow." Zeph says to himself as he looks at his paper, his companions, and the cart full of items.
Then Zeph produces the list and a list of how much each item is worth (90%) of its value and he shows the list to Dulcet.
"Its a total of 5908.5gold. I got it divided up who gets what amount." Zeph says, wondering if this is nearly enough to support the magical items a group undertaking such a task may need.
Selemar Monday November 10th, 2008 7:04:04 PM
Chooses the chestnut, and names him Sativa.
Zeph AC18 HP33 Heroes Loots2 Monday November 10th, 2008 7:22:53 PM
Ok, and after looking over Sebastian's loot list one last time, there were a few things I overlooked. Most importantly, he had 440.1gp on him. Which means everyone should add 73.33gp to their total I listed up there. My mistake.
Also, there are a few more items he had. He had an antivenom potion, some parchment, candles, ink, and a few more mundane items, and some sunrods. I will just include that with our group loot that we are not selling, rather than recalculating it all, k? Everyone can use that mundane stuff.
Hmark Monday November 10th, 2008 8:17:46 PM
To Hmark, Dulcet's continued prodding about needing anything else sounds like a hint. The man decides to take a shot.
"Well," he hesitates. "You wouldn't happen to have a healing wand, wouldja?"
DM Kathy Tuesday November 11th, 2008 12:22:51 AM Selemar chooses the chestnut mare, and names "him" Sativa. Hey, she's a horse; she won't know you're calling her "him." :)
Axara, then, winds up with the roan mare. The sorceress declines to name her new mount, calling her simply "Miss Mare." She also expresses doubt about her ability to ride.
[OOC: Just riding a horse, at a walking pace, along a road, doesn't require any ranks in Ride. If you try to do something fancy--ride in combat, say, or jump off while the horse is moving--that will require a Ride check.]
Zeph parcels out the last of the found items. [Thanks for doing the math, Addison.]
Hmark asks about a healing wand, and Dulcet regretfully shakes her head. "I don't normally use them, you see," she explains. "If you want to buy one, though, I'm sure you could find one in the Catacombs."
As you make your way back to your campsite, Selemar catches sight of a familiar figure. Garrett Goodbarrel, a halfling monk, started his adventuring career at the same time as Selemar. Garret spent quite a bit of time with both Selemar and his sister, and proved himself to be a loyal and trustworthy companion. Just now, Garrett is looking about him as if unsure of his next step.
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Tuesday November 11th, 2008 8:36:47 AM
Axara looks at the 1,513.33 gold pieces she got from Zeph. "This is the gold of blood and treason and human follies in the name of love. Will it curse me if I use it? Will it curse my mother if I give it to her? Can gold be cursed?"
Rollo[AC:21 HP:29/29] Tuesday November 11th, 2008 11:44:54 AM "A curse to you is a blessing to others, I'm sure the poor would happily accept your money as a blessing."
Rollo goes back to staring at the pony handed to him, lost in thought.
(ooc: Currently posting in Catacombs for a riding dog)
Zeph AC18 HP33 Heroes Loots2 Tuesday November 11th, 2008 1:01:58 PM
Before Zeph leaves with the group to the next destination, he turns to Dulcet and says, "Is there a map of the area we will be traversing? Also... is there any way we can contact you in the case of an emergency or we lose our path? Or rather... is there anyway you can contact us?" Zeph questions.
(OOC: My character sheet is updated for the most part I think and I rolled for stuff in the L&B)
Kiel [AC:19 - HP:34/34] Tuesday November 11th, 2008 3:51:36 PM
Takes the time to groom Phoenix. Feed and water his friend and allow him to free graze to his heart's content. While his steed grazes, Kiel will unpack and repack his equipment, clean his weaponry, and clean and oil the tack for his horse.
When the others start arriving with their new mounts, Kiel will tend to those animals as well, allowing them (the animals) to know there is someone here who understands and can care for them. To calm them some.
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Tuesday November 11th, 2008 4:47:36 PM
Axara admires how well Kiel takes cares of Phoenix nd the attnetion he gives to the other horses, including Miss Mare. She tries the petting and feeding but the results are somehow quite different than when Kiel does it.

DM Kathy Wednesday November 12th, 2008 12:10:00 AM Rollo takes a quick side trip to the Catacombs for a riding dog, even as Axara wonders aloud about the source of the money in her pouch.
[OOC: Just as a reminder, a first-level wand is 750 gp. That would be, for example, Cure Light Wounds for divine casters; Magic Missile or Mage Armor for arcane casters. Or, hey, Entangle. Just pointing it out while you're near an entrance to the Catacombs. :) ]
Kiel spends some time getting to know the new animals. Those who observe him closely may notice a new, stronger bond between him and Phoenix.
"I have no maps of the roads near Shadow Mountain," Dulcet replies to Zeph. "You are probably familiar with the map of the entire peninsula, which at least shows the relationship between where we are now and where you are heading. More than that, I cannot offer." Asked about maintaining contact, she replies, "With your permission, I would like to scry on your journey. If I see that you are in trouble, I will attempt to contact you. You also have those among you who can summon a small animal to deliver a message." [That is, the Animal Messenger spell, which is on the druid and ranger spell list.]
Selemar, meanwhile, is speaking with his old friend Garrett ]who, alas, does not have permission to post to the board yet]. Garrett mentions that he is between adventures at the moment.
You are all aware that your group is a little understrength.
Zeph AC18 HP33 Heroes Loots2 Wednesday November 12th, 2008 1:14:18 AM
Zeph nods at Lady Dulcet's words. "I have no problem with you scrying. Actually, I prefer it. As long as noone objects." Zeph says, with a wink to the old witch.
Zeph notices Selemar speaking to a little halfling and raises an eyebrow in curiosity. "You two seem to know each other." Zeph says to the pair as he walks up, noting the odd state of the halfling's hair must mean he is of some monkish order. "Mind if I ask where you are from good sir?" Zeph says, addressing the halfling politely.
After pleasantries are exchanged, Zeph will venture to the catacombs real quick.
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Wednesday November 12th, 2008 11:07:49 AM
Axara immediately turns defensive as she sees the newcomer halfling. She looks at Kiel for his reaction.
Selemar, how do you know the newcomer?
She turns to Garrett ""Dear Sir, why would you ahng around with a bunch of adventurers with nothing to do and waiting for their next mission?"
OOC: in the catabombs getting some potions and may be a wand. Will update the character sheet tonight.
Zeph AC18 HP33 HeroesMundaneItems Wednesday November 12th, 2008 11:30:48 AM
(OOC: Here is a list of mundane items I collaborated, taken from Sebastian's old list. This is stuff that we didn't sell that I am assuming we are just leaving in random sattle bags as we travel. Never know when we are going to use 400 feet of rope.)
Hmark Wednesday November 12th, 2008 1:32:42 PM
Hmark nods in mute acceptance of Dulcet's offer to scry the party.
Back at the ranch, he gives the newcomer a wave. "I'm Hmark," he says. "Welcome to the nuthouse."
Turning to the rest of the group, he suggests "How 'bout we all pitch in some of this coin for a wand of healing, while we got it lying around?" He hands Rollo 125 gp.
"That should cover my share".
Kiel [AC:19 - HP:34/34] Wednesday November 12th, 2008 5:53:01 PM
While out with Phoenix, Kiel spots a stranger in the camp. And tenses. Phoenix notices Kiel's demeanor and turns to face the newcomer as well, snorting and stomping his right hoof into the ground repeatedly.
Pointing in the direction of the camp, Kiel's mouth moves but again, being he's out with his trusty steed, noone can actually hear what is being said, but immediately the horse charges forward. galloping up to the camp and coming to a stop between the halfling and Axara. Snorting a warning to the newcomer.
Kiel purposely moves back into the camp, near the wagon and his gear, and watches with great interest.
DM Kathy Thursday November 13th, 2008 12:15:31 AM Zeph and Axara also depart for the Catacombs. Hmark suggests that perhaps the group will want to pitch in on a healing wand, and offers up his own share of the item.
You all speak to the newcomer, Garrett, who explains that he was raised in a monastery at the edge of Cinnamon Valley. He knew Selemar in those days, and indeed did some minor adventures with the druid.
Kiel watches the stranger with interest. Unbidden, a thought pops into your head, a recollection of a fellow you knew a while ago. Feyjarl, his name was. You remember him because he is, as far as you know, the only other person in the Valley who wields a two-bladed sword.
[OOC: I apologize for the slowness of the pace right now. I'm still trying to figure out a way to work Zak's character in. It isn't easy, because we have a lot of people playing the Lone Wolf. Also, I'm giving people time to finalize their characters and visit the catacombs. Also also, Jeff doesn't have permissions to post yet. Zak, can I get you to make a test post, please? I don't want to go through this again. :) ]
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Thursday November 13th, 2008 10:51:50 AM
Axara smiles as Phoenix put himself between her and the halfling. She pets the beautiful horse and whispers to him "You are such a wonderful animal. Kiel is indeed lucky. Thanks for protecting me. "
"I am going to The Catacombs now, likely to get a little wand to spark a few things. "

Zeph AC19 HP33 HeroesMundaneItems Thursday November 13th, 2008 11:02:07 AM
Zeph emerges from the catacombs with a slight new shimmer beneath his tunic.
"That took way to long." Zeph says as he notices the horse being aggressive towards the Halfling and Axara walking away.
Zeph raises an eyebrow and looks at Kiel. "Overly protective are we? I hope we aren't this aggressive to everyone we meet- we may have the entire valley hating us eventually." Zeph says with a smile, then he walks over to exchange more pleasantries with Selemar and Garrett.
Rollo[AC:21 HP:37/37] Thursday November 13th, 2008 12:18:04 PM
(ooc: If we are throwing in for the CLW wand please hand over the loot, otherwise I'm gonna finish my catacombs goodness.)
Zeph AC19 HP33 HeroesMundaneItems Thursday November 13th, 2008 12:35:13 PM
(OOC: I would give you gold for the wand... but I am at 0 gold. barely had enough for a +1 upgrade on my armor. Can I just give you 125gp out of my party loot next time we get stuff? Like an IOU?)
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Thursday November 13th, 2008 1:14:32 PM
Axara comes back from the Catacombs and go see Kiel. "Notice anything different?" She pulls out a wand from her robe and smiles. ------------------------------------------------------ OOC: Axara gave Zeph 14GP. She forgave the debt when she saw his 12 packs abs.
I can go in for my 125 and advance Zeph share.
Kiel [AC:19 - HP:34/34] Thursday November 13th, 2008 3:08:11 PM
Smiles at Axara...
Then whistles to Phoenix, and the horse turns, looks at Kiel, turns back and snorts at the Halfling, then turns and walks over to Kiel, nudging him until he gets a treat.
Stay here boy, eat and drink some more. I will be back.
And then Kiel heads off to the town, taking his armor and bow/arrows with him.
Garret Goodbarrel Thursday November 13th, 2008 3:55:38 PM
Walking up towards Selemar, you see an average-sized halfling leading a large dog with a saddle. He has no shoes and no shirt -- he wears only a pair of worn, tan pants that are fastened with a rope around his waist. His hair is black and tied up in a high topknot. The sides of his head are shaved. On the sides of his head, and leading across to his eyes, there are various dark but colorful tattoos. There are a few small bags hanging from his waist and he wears a small, obviously not full backpack. Diagonally across the backpack is a metal-tipped pole.
As he reaches Selemar, he raises his hand in greeting and says, "Hail Selemar. It has not been long, has it? Last time I saw you, it looked to me like you would never leave that woods of yours. I hope you have been well!"
When Zeph asks, Garret replies, "Hello. I am Garret Goodbarrel. I am from a very small place in the Windbourne Hills, there." He points off to the northwest. "There's not so much of a town there, just a place away from the cities and towns. It's the main headquarters, if you will, of a quite reliable messenger service. Perhaps you have heard of messages from the monks of Sole Hill?"
When Axara speaks up, Garret turns to her and says, "I'm sorry, we have not met. I am Garret Goodbarrel. I'm not 'hanging around' so much as I've nowhere to be at the moment. I have been given leave by my master to explore and learn more of the land and of people. I saw an old friend of mine, Selemar, and came over to say hello -- it's nothing more than that, I assure you."
When Hmark waves, Garret waves back and says, "Well met, Hmark! I am called Garret." He looks around at the others and says, "I'm not sure this looks much like a nuthouse, but if you say it is, then it must be."
When Kiel trots up on his horse, Garret watches with interest. As the horse stomps and snorts, Garret looks at it and nods. When Kiel leads the horse back towards camp, Garret winks at Axara and waves to Keil, "Hello. I am Garret. That's a fine horse you have there."

Rollo collects the cash and heads to make his purchases.
Hmark Thursday November 13th, 2008 5:20:40 PM
Hmark just gives a friendly grin, and waits for the group to get ready.
Kiel [AC:18 - HP:34/34] Thursday November 13th, 2008 10:06:52 PM
Walks back without his bow and arrows, sporting a suit of exceptional looking studded leather armor and a finer looking two-bladed sword.
Giving the halfling a "look", Kiel goes straight to his gear by the wagon. Checking it, then he places his weapon in its holder. Then resumes his training with Phoenix. Inviting anyone who wish to learn some basic understanding of horse care for the future trip. And some riding lessons so the journey wont hurt as much.
As an afterthought, Kiel turns to Axara saying: You might want to go see about buying a proper tent this time. Matter of fact, hands her 15gold get a couple 3 if you can. Wouldnt hurt, especially since where we are going to be heading.
Then resumes his teaching.

Zeph looks at Garrett and then looks at Kiel I guess I could learn how to take care of a horse. Zeph thinks to himself.
Then Zeph looks back at Garrett and Selemar. "Well. We are a bit undermanned... and if everyone agrees and Selemar can vouch for you... you seem honest... I wouldn't be opposed to you joining our cause and mission." Zeph says and puts out his hand to the Halfling.
Besides, I like his happy demeanor. This group needs something like this. Zeph thinks
Then Zeph goes over to Kiel and tries to pick up tips on how to take care of a horse.
DM Kathy Friday November 14th, 2008 12:26:43 AM
After a few moments' hesitation, newcomer Garrett introduces himself. Zeph offers to let him join the group.
[OOC: If you think it's too early for your characters to be trusting anybody, you could always just tell the new characters that you're heading for Shadow Mountain and could use an extra hand or two. It's the truth, but not the entire truth. :) Up to you, of course.]
You become better acquainted with your horses, and discuss the logistics of pooling some funds for a curing wand.
Some of you, of course, have already visited the Catacombs. As the sun sets at your campsite, a messenger approaches, garbed in the livery of Catacombs staff. As she enters your camp, you see it is a young girl with a bright smile and a cheerful disposition. "Delivery from the Catacombs," she says, striding blissfully into the midst of your armed and jumpy group. "Got a magicked shirt for Zeph," she says, reading the tag. "Here you go. A wand and a potion for Axara," she continues, handing them over. "Watch where you point that thing," she jokes. "And a magicked sword for Kiel," she concludes, gingerly holding out the two-bladed weapon. "Domi's toenails! How do you even carry this thing?" Her packages delivered, she give you a cheery salute and departs.
As the sun sets, you begin to think that you can be underway tomorrow. Possibly with a quick stop beforehand at the Catacombs for a curing wand.
[OOC: Last call! :) New adventure starts with Sunday's DM post.]
Kiel [AC:18 - HP:34/34] Friday November 14th, 2008 1:00:56 AM
Taking said sword from the messenger after her querry, Kiel deftly spins it in front of him, then back and forth, from side to side and around his back. Stopping it level with the ground in front of him, balancing it in 1 hand.
Looking at the messenger he smiles and says: I don't know. Never touched the likes of this weapon before. /winks at the group
After checking on Phoenix 1 more time, Kiel rolls out his sleeping roll and blankets, places his armor within reach and puts his new weapon again, within easy grasp. He says his good-nights and wanders off to slumber land.
<a href=http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dms6j97_11ghbzgfc6>Garret Goodbarrel</a> Friday November 14th, 2008 8:54:03 AM
When Kiel gives the basic lessons on horsemanship, Garret sort of looks over, trying to hear a little about what's going on, but at the same time keeping his distance, as he feels that Kiel isn't too comfortable with him just yet. He can't resist listening in just a little, however.
As Zeph welcomes him, Garret smiles and shakes his hand. "Why thank you very much. Indeed, old Selemar and I have had a few adventures in the past. We won't talk about the giant centipede part, though will we, old pal?" he says as he nudges Selemar. "I'm not sure what your cause or mission are, but I'm out for exploring and adventuring, so I'd be thrilled to join up with you, so long as you're not planning on staying here and camping for a month or three."
When the items are delivered, Garret watches Kiel with the sword with interest. Garret says, "You're quite good with that sword, sir. I hope that I will never find myself on the wrong end of that sword, or yourself."
Axara[AC: 17 HP 18/18] Friday November 14th, 2008 9:10:39 AM
Axara gently refuse the gold from Kiel. "Thank you but I have enough left, even after becoming Zeph's lending machine", she winks at him, "I have enough to buy myself a tent and be able to rest and change in the privacy of of it. "
She listens to Garrett and looks horrified when Zeph mentions cause and mission. "Let me clarify things, Garrett. We do not have a mission right now, which is why we are camping doing nothing. Our cause is like all adventurers cause: search for riches and fame. We will be going to Shadow Mountain because we feel we can find some of it there. But it is likely a wild goose chase. So if you don't mind wasting your time with adventurers without a mission, feel free to join.
----------------------------- OOC: Axara will buy a tent - No need for the Catacombs as it is not a magical item, right?
<a href=http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dms6j97_11ghbzgfc6>Garret Goodbarrel</a> Friday November 14th, 2008 11:05:44 AM
Garret smiles at the mention of Shadow Mountain. "Oh, indeed? That sounds wonderful. I have explored much of the lands here to the east and I know the hills, but I have never been near Shadow Mountain. I would quite enjoy going there with you, whether we find riches or not!"

Hey, remove the < > and replace them with [ ] should read Garret Goodbarrel
also, add your ac and hp's to the end by [AC:# HP:#/#] after HP, the first # is your current and the second # is the max you have, ie I have 34/34, after getting hit for 5 next post would read 29/34...makes it easier for Kathy to keep track, and you too.

(ooc:For sake of time. I'm assuming delivery of my goods will occur in the same fashion as the others.)
When his Delivery arrives Rollo can not believe his eyes. He was never expecting to see his old friend and companion, "Sir Cornellius!"
The gnome ran up to the large Riding Sheepdog and shook his furry paw."Eberyon must have sent you sensing the quest ahead. Eberyon be praised."The gnome leans in and whispers something to the dog as he points to the various members of the party. The dog does not show any sign of comprehension. Rollo continues down the line and stops as his finger lands on a stranger in their midsts.
Whose this guy? He seems a trustworthy height. He seems monkish, or...Monkey! A clever disquise. No doubt he was sent by Eberyon as well, a denizen of the monkey tribes of Ploot (I mean the nose is a dead give away) given halfling form and sent to this realm to further his plans. Why else would he appear at this precise moment, in this precise space, in this precise 5x5 square? It all makes sense, finally the fates have turned in our favor.
How does he know Selemar?
The gnome and Cornellius approach the newcomer, and extends his hand."Rollo Nimbus, guardian of the fey and loyal servant of the fey king." Rollo indicates the riding dog."And this is Cornellius Burpaw the fourth, decendent of the noble burpaw line and fearless knight of Eberyon. Have you come to join our noble collective fine 'halfling'."?" THe gnome gives a knowing wink to Garret as he says the word halfling.

Selemar swore he heard a chuckle from the wolf at the mention of the centipede, and tossed him a glare that reinforced the bear threats.
"Yes, we shall not mention that, or the little run in with the bullywugs, that you are so fond of forgetting." Selemar smiled, a rare sight indeed.
He is pleased to see his old friend and even more so that he is willing to come along. Finally someone he could trust.

If night comes before the group sets out, Zeph will take the first watch so that he may read by the dim dusk light.

Feyjarl Talvalin [AC:17 .. HP:20/29] Sunday November 16th, 2008 8:26:31 PM
Feyjarl came to again, shaking his head to clear the daze he was in, it was now early evening, he calculated that he had been sleeping there for almost 6 hours. It was a miracle that he hadn't had his throat slit while asleep, or been eaten by a bear. Checking his wounds, he noted that the salve he had rubbed into them seemed to have done the trick; more or less. The healing salve however, was now empty and discarded.
He sat up against the tree, looking around him at the corpses of the bandits that had attacked him. Searching through their pockets revealed nothing of any worth, and no information on them either. They were a raggedy bunch, and had relied on brute force and the skill of their bowman to take him down. Thinking of the bowman made him inadvertently touch his side where the arrow had struck him. It was still sore, although the wound seemed to have healed now.
The attack had started while he was riding through the forest the morning before on his way to any sign off life. His band had been killed, struck down by arrows coming so thick that the sun had been blackened out. Realising the futility of fighting an enemy they couldn't even see, Feyjarl had given the command to retreat. He and one other had made it away alive. He instructed the other to return to Zhang and inform her of the loss, and the location of the attack so she could bolster a response. The attack had to have been Gropp's doing; a fierce adversary of Zhang's.
Feyjarl had ridden for 30 minutes directly away from the site of the massacre and had then circled around to try and confirm who their attackers were. Pretty much exactly where he thought the attack had been started, he had been struck in the side with an arrow, knocking him off his horse. The fight then started with two bandits, with Feyjarl constantly manoeuvring around so the bowman couldn't get a shot at him. Fending off the bandits had been fairly easy, and the bowman had eventually given up trying to hit him from range; instead dumping his bow and charging into combat with an axe. From that point on the fight had pressed on, with the three bandits surrounding him.
The bodies were quite a sight. One bandit's head had almost been severed completely off, another split from his left shoulder almost fully across the body and the last, the bowman, had the string from his bow so tightly wrapped around his neck that it had cut through the skin and was lodged tightly up against his windpipe. Feyjarl, spat at the corpses, 'Zhang would have been proud of his worksmanship.
Flexing the fingers on his left hand, he checked the area around him and then pulled off his left arm greave. He frowned, 'Perfect! Yet another scar, I look like a damn road map of Hell.' He pulled the greave back in place, shaking his head.
Picking up his weapon, he cut a piece of clothing from one of the bandits and used that to clean it.
He flicked his head to one side, crouching down quickly, his vision blurred out as wracks of pain shot down his side...
Had that been the sound of horses? He put the tree between himself and the road and hoped they weren't a scout force for Gropp's bandits.....
DM Kathy - some clarifications Sunday November 16th, 2008 9:13:28 PM
[OOC:
No, you don't need to go to the Catacombs for a mundane item; just deduct the gold and add it to your character sheet.
It is not necessary to post your AC and current hit points unless we are actually in combat. Of course, if you just want to leave them there as the default, it doesn't hurt anything.
In the Wold, clerics can serve Immortal Powers instead of gods, if they choose. Ebyron is such a Power. Powers are not quite as strong as gods, so their clerics don't get quite the same benefits. For example, clerics of Powers only get one domain. So Adam was quite right to just pick the one.]
