Trying to find out more about the Peninsula? Good, there's plenty of places around here. Let me show them to you.

(Here are some Notes on distances on the Elennian Peninsula and environs.)

First, Let's focus on the land I call home: The Kingdom of New Elenna. It sits on and around the orange stack of plateaus in the southeast of the Peninsula of Elenna. There are three plateaus, known as the upper, middle and lower. The area around the plateau stack is called the lowlands. This is a pleasant kingdom was ruled by Claudia I, a female king, until her death. Now that she's gone, Sturtevent the High Lord Mayor of Plateau City seems to run the show. Everyone keeps calling it the kingdom even though we don't have one. Who knows how that will work out.

To the northwest of the plateaus are the Red Hills. This is wild country. All of the riff-raff (demi-humans, monsters, etc.) are crushed in here along with Izen (also known as the Badlands), Culverwood, and The Scab. Since the escape of some of the dragons from Dragon Bay to the northeast, this area has become very dangerous indeed. To the southwest of the Red Hills is the Territory of Izen. Home to the citystate of Dirt City, and the newly formed Emerald Kingdom (once ruled by the green dragon Parnoth). This area is known for its forests, scrub, swamps, and limestone caves.

North of Izen is one of the seven magical forests of Yrth: Culverwood. This preserve is the single most dangerous location on the peninsula. Declared by the FreeStaters to be a Monster Preserve, it is home to isolationist Elves, Drow, and magical creatures of all kinds. This wood tends to capture travelers by magically altering the landscape to appear that it goes on forever. The unwary traveler will usually disappear never to be seen again (or see again for that matter.) The green dragon Parnoth laid claim to the southern reaches of Culverwood in the Emerald Kingdom until the famous adventuring group Emerald Dragons finally put an end to his evil and his life.

The Scab to The Northeast of Culverwood has the same properties. Some say these mountains were placed there by The Gods of Wold to prevent travel to the Cataclysm Lands on the other side. The Peaseblossom River originates here flowing on through Culverwood and beyond.

To the west of The Scab are the Windbourne Hills: home to many small kingdoms known as The Free Staters. Each kingdom is ruled in its own way and many a petty war is fought there. Many adventurers retire there taking over a small kingdom or rescuing one (a nicer way of conquering one). These kingdoms extend westward out of the Windbourne Hills to the Condorit River. The borders here are too convoluted at this height to describe and are constantly changing anyway. West of the Condorit River is The City-State of Osto. Formally known as The City of Thieves until the rise of Dirt City, this city traces its roots to the survivors of the war criminals from The Settlement/Invasion War at the time of The Fourth Cataclysm. The criminals were doomed to die in the Cursed Swamp. Those who escaped founded Osto.

The Center of The Peninsula of Elenna is dominated by Shadow Mountain. This mountain’s height has never been determined. It is known that it extends up beyond the air envelope of The Wold. To the west of Shadow Mountain is the infamous Wall of Kaazul. This was placed by The Gods of Wold to prevent the Aisildurian-Free-Stater’s War 350 years ago. No one may pass through the wall except a being who has absolutely no evil intent towards anyone on the other side.

North of The Wall of Kaazul is the Kingdom of Fargunia. These unusual people do not live as family, but in child units of 4. It’s really too complicated to expound upon here, but I would advise knowing the culture before venturing there. North of Fargunia is the barbarian lands of Zarthmoor. This area is complicated by The Cult of Isumbre. The two peoples have an uneasy truce that consists of something like this: If The Followers of Isumbre leave a city they are killed and if the Barbarians of Zarthmoor enter a city they are converted. Don’t visit there.

South of The Wall of Kaazul is the Empire of Aisildur. This is the only people to exist as a continuation of their former government. This is a Theocratic Monarchy and only by the strictest measures has there expansion been kept in check. Peace on the plateau might be possible if the Aisildurians were not in the political arena. Most of the surrounding kingdoms and city-states are allied against them. This organization is known as the Free-Stater’s League.
