"Was what happened to the golem also an illusion?"

DM RobC - "Mack, what did you just do to me?"
Wednesday November 1st, 2017 6:19:59 AM

The party wonder what is going on. Was it just an illusion? Has the gas affected their minds?

Amidst the confusion ... darkness falls. Utter and complete darkness. Magical lights go out, flames extinguish, and even those with Darkvision cannot see.

It's a little disconcerting.

Then in the darkness a small flicker of light. Something like a firefly flying slowly before the group.

The size of the light grows and grows but the intensity of the light stays soft and warm.

A humanoid figure emerges from the light. Literally steps out of it one foot at a time. The party can see her now: a stunningly beautiful woman with fair skin wearing a crown of twigs. She wears a long emerald green dress, and has many small pearls in her silvery hair.

The light emanates from her and you can even feel its warmth on your skin.

All signs of the golems and gas have vanished, and Squeaver and Khan have lowered their heads in submission.

"My friends. My Wardens. The Tree needs you" she speaks with a softness to her voice the likes you have never heard.

Ladies and Gentlemen: The Fey Queen, Maab.

A strange feeling comes over me. Not being one that has ever been impressed by royalty, or even deities.... I now feel very different. A great amount of respect and awe comes over me. I go down on one knee, bow my head.... "What can we do to help?"

'Osul bows deeply. Imagine a reflexive reaction, but played out over a time frame that would render moot the entire reason for a reflex in the first place.
His eyes do not leave her, though. It is not intended as a challenge -- he simply cannot do otherwise.

My friends. is both nice and generous in equal parts. My Wardens. begs questions. The Tree needs you. We have a role to play, but the tree needs more than just us. It's leaving The Culverwood in the first place seems to indicate this.

"Your people here in the Plateau City speak highly of you and your caring nature, and do their best to emulate this in their own way. Forgive me, but I would have thought that you might have delegated this visit to an Emissary, or a functionary of the Court?"

Atlas is struck with a feeling that he has not experienced before. Like Mack, he has never cared much for royalty, but this is different. He wonders if maybe she has enchanted him. If so, he isn't bothered by it. He quickly tucks away his weapons as he takes a knee and bows his head before her.

Her words have just as much impact as her presence, so he looks back up to address her with the rest of the group. "My sword is yours. How may we be of service to you and the Tree?"

Beordir raises his eyebrows at the new apparition and her news. He looks around at the faces of his companions in bewilderment, "But they never Sent to us. Right? No one else got a Sending from the Tree. I left a scroll there to allow us to be contacted. Did anyone get contacted?"

(OOC I'm sure no one got contacted, but this is just too funny to roleplay.)

Elyngael kneels beside Khan, trusting his instincts, she dips her head "My Lady".

DM RobC - "But they never Sent to us. Right?"
Thursday November 2nd, 2017 7:38:06 AM

The party show Maab due respect with a few questioing what they can do to serve. "Please, there is no need to kneel. Stand that we may speak openly"

Neshi and Armand pay silent reverance, while Elyngael simply addresses the Queen of the Fey as "My Lady"

Armand knows that Maab helped create all the flora and fauna of the Wold. She is the Queen of Fey and the Ruler of the Vales of Twilight. She is one of the most powerful of the Immortal Powers as well. If Alemi was to look for a Power to join the ranks of the Gods, Maab would be near the top of the list.

Beordir is a little confused. If the Tree is in trouble, why weren't the party contacted? It's not like the party didn't leave the means to.

Mack and Atlas how they can serve, whilst Osul asks why Maab herself would approach the party.

"Something is affecting my Tree and it's surrounds. There are changes happening across the Wold and I can't explain what or why. All I can do is try and care for my children while we find out what is going on" There is a flash of confusion across her face, but mainly concern.

Her expression turns to a smile once more as she looks to Osul "You have guarded my Tree, protected it, and cared for those around it. You are my envoys. If anyone can care for my Tree it is the Tree Wardens"

With the hint of a grin Maab looks to Beordir "Perhaps you were sent for but were unable to hear it? The language of nature can be hard to understand" She looks to Mack as she finishes. "But perhaps we can fix this"

Maab reaches out and lightly carresses Mack's head. In an instant he is filled not just with the knowledge of what it is like to be tree, but not just one tree: what it is like to be several different types of trees for entire lifetimes. From seed through sapling all the way into a mature specimen and into eventual decay or conflagration and then the cycle repeats itself. He understands the differences between oak, maple, sycamore and cedar among other species.

The party notice Mack's hair takes on a green tinge, as the fur along Squeaver's spine turns green.

"I hope I have not overwhelmed you." She says to Mack "I saw your dreams pass through the Vale. I understand you would become a shepherd and friend to all plants so I have imparted to you my blessing. Use it in good faith to do good and protect all of my children"

With a deep breath Maab speaks to the party as a whole. "Time is precious. We cannot delay here any further. Gather around and we shall leave"

DM RobC - "Let the journey begin!"
Friday November 3rd, 2017 8:10:49 AM

Osul assumes that leaving is going to be a bit more complicaated than simply walking out of the tunnel.

Talya is thrown but goes with the flow. If this god-like person says its time to leave, that's good enough for her!

Mack and Squeaver are a little dumbfounded but neither seems to fussed by their new hair colors. Atlas is itching to make some comments about it but decides to save it for another time.

Beordir anticipates the travel to place some stress on the party, and suggests everyone try to relax.

Armand suspects it will be less eventful than the way here. He hopes. If the fey are tricky, perhaps their Queen is too?

Neshi is confused as to what this tree is all about. How is one tree worth all this attention? Mack tries to sum it up, but even his description does not do it justice. The Tree of Parting is considered by many to be one of the Wonders of the Wold. It is known far and wide for its hospitality as well as the incredible beauty of its views in all directions.

Elyngael is happy to venture with the party to answer Maab's call. She looks at Elyngael with a warm smile "Child, I ask ALL of you. Since you were young you have cared for my children. Every plant you tended, every animal you cared for in the grove. All your deeds have brought you here"

"Now then" There is no pomp or ceremony. Maab simply claps her hands above her head and produces a blinding burst of light. Instantly the party find themselves standing atop a small hill overlooking the Tree.

Despite it being morning the sky is particularly cloudy and dark. It's like the area is under huge storm clouds but there is no rain or wind. Even the grass around you is still.

Just under a mile away the Tree can clearly be seen. It's boughs reach higher than any castle spire you have ever seen. Its great canopy stretches out and seems to help support the sky itself.

"I will leave you here" Maab declares "There is much for me to look into across the Wold and time may be against us. Farewell, Wardens. Until we meet again"

With that brief farewell Maab turns back into a firefly and zips off into the distance.

SUPER excited to be back at The Tree, I still look quickly to make sure Squeaver is here. But then I also wonder about Gypsy, and the other's mounts. "I'm not sure what we can do at this point, but I'm concerned about those we've left behind."

Atlas takes a deep breath, lets it out, and smiles. All thoughts of the city and Maab vanish almost instantly. "It is good to be home. Neshi, Talya, El, welcome to The Tree of Parting. We fondly just call it the Tree. We have lodging here with plenty of room for the three of you, so make yourself at home when we get there. I know we are still all new to each other, but you'll find the people here are very welcoming. We'll explain everything else as we walk."

Atlas looks about the group and gestures towards the Tree. "Shall we?"

As they walk Atlas explains things to the new folks, pulling in others to help fill in all the things he has left out. He does at one point step to the side and speak with Mack for a moment about the animals they left behind. "They'll be taken care of Mack, trust in Maab."

In spite of himself, Beordir tenses up as Queen Maab turns away from Elyngael. He doesn't even have time to discipline himself into breathing before the handclap is silenced and they have arrived. Beordir relaxes visibly, then looks around surprised.

They are back at the Tree of Parting. The birds are chirping, the leaves are singing in the wind and the sky is blue. "That was fast." But she is already gone. Beordir stands gawking mind whirling about the amazing power he has been a witness to.

Atlas orients the newcomers. They are even further out of place, so Beordir takes a couple of cleansing breaths, then replies, "I need to go see someone about a Sending scroll. I gave it to the steward of our house. Queen Maab seemed insistent that there is trouble. I wonder if he knows anything."

Beordir hitches his pack up and starts walking toward the Tree of Parting.

Over 500ft tall at the branches where the uppermost dwellers make their home, another 200 ft above that, only eagle and squirrels dare to tread. It's branches spread over a 1/4 mile diameter from tip to tip. The trunk it'self is well over 300 ft thick. The tree is magical, and as such storms barely make the branches shake.

Mack: is tickled to be back home, but the storm clouds give him pause, he tries to help 'Osul

Atlas: too is glad to be back and excited to explain the place to their new friends.

Boerdir is a bit disconcerted at the suddenness of their arrival. not to mention up close and personal with an immotal fey. he's ready to get to the tree and find out what is going on.

前sul: proudly tells the newcomers about the grand dimensions of the Tree of Parting.

Yurr'Neshi is a bit unsettled about the trip but speaks the true word about the tree and the storm clouds.

Armand: thinks of the significants of the storm clouds, but there are many. everything from a sign of changing the weather, a mourning god, and eldritch power laying claim to an area, the end of a season or the end of the world. more info is needed.

Elyngael scans the area, quiet, stormy, with a huge fricking tree a-ways away.

Talya?

The treck to the tree is uneventful. strangely so. birds, small animals, even the bugs seem to have went to ground. Hiding? or have they abandoned the area? Osul beats the rest of the party to the tree by a good margin, and it seems like everyone has closed up shop for the day. piles of leaves mound in front of every door and the bustling little community seems strangely subdued. You see Hiflanyl Ilyndrathyl still manning the lifts and he waves to the party as they approach, lowing the bridge to let them up. tells the party that everyone is meeting up at the Triple T and that things have gotten really weird the last few days.

" the strangest thing so far is the leaves, we can't keep them from piling around the doors. Lilliput went into a trance about an hour ago and said that you all would be back within the hour...I'll be dipped in buttermilk if you didn't show up. Elyngael calms her companion, his keen animal senses perhaps detect things that you cannot.

Armand: comments on the leaves, but he can see it himself, in front of every door is a large pile of fall leaves. You notice something else, some of the alternate paths from one level of the tree to another are gone. The layout of the tree is subtly different, almost as if the tree itself has moved.

Mack: is ready to find out some answers.

Yurr'Neshi no special insights, but one. If you had to describe the feeling of the area..the zeitgeist if you will...it's dread, not of the people, but of the area...the world.

Talya being new to the area she just follows along.

Atlas: true to his humor atlas urges the crew to get to the Tree Top Tavern.

Boerdir contemplates the sky and gets nothing. storms happen all the time. but why does this one seem so ominous?

前sul: arrives at the Triple T. most of the adults are inside, the kids outside are playing in a leaf dust devil...but in your air elemental form you do not sense the wind for this kind of thing. it's curious...once in human form...it still looks like they are playing in a dust devil of leaves.

The party makes their way to the main lift, An elevator system designed by Hiflanyl Ilyndrathyl many years ago. it works so smoothly that only now do the veterans realize that it seems to be off. where normally it mates perfectly with each of the levels it's now off a bit, and at the Triple T, you would have had to step across an 18" gap. fortunately one of the adolescents, Bobby you think. stationed by the exit slides a piece of planking across the gap for your exit.

he speaks. You're back! cool Liliput was right! Sorry about the lift, we can normally keep it tuned to the growth and movements of the tree, but the last day or so have been crazy. Everybody's in the bar talking if you want to go on in.

walking towards the entrance to the bar you see a group of young kids playing in what seems to be dust devil composed of leaves. One of the children, a little girl, goes to catch one of the leaves..then jerks her hand back like she's been stung. Within a step or two, the scene goes from happy kids playing to scared kids trapped in a whirling vortex of leaves.

Armand knows little about leaves, so he ignores them and opens the door to the Triple T.

Mack: Knows all about leaves and attempts communication The replies he gets are the green equivalent of hearing a man with a head wound read random words out of a dictionary. the beings are panicked, confused and it's pretty obvious that they don't really know what's going on or really..what they are doing. you get a vague impression that they were trying to ease their anxiety by playing with the kids. something that these beings are not known to do, but then the act of exposing themselves to humans, even young humans only increased their anxiety. Like I said chaos.

Atlas: gets ready to bag some leaves if the halfling can't diffuse the situation.

前sul: Yeah! save the kids, sweep up the leaves....what?

Boerdir reinforces Atlas.

Elyngael discerns the secret hidden nature of the leaves quite easily. OOC: it's okay, if you can post tomorrow what I post tonight, it all works out.

Yurr'Neshi the Triple T's doorway is actually taller than human average. not ducking required.

Talya prepares for attack from the...leaves.

when Mack speaks, the swirling leaves leave the children and begin swirling around Mack. Almost as if they were desperate for some form of communication. Mack: It seems as though a million different voices hum in your ear. each trying to say something, but each talking over the other one.

Atlas: with the whirl of leaf creatures you cannot see Mack or the rest of the tree as you are caught up in the whirlwind of leaves.

Armand: the kids are more the willing to go, and cling tightly to you as you carry them inside

前sul: as many leaves as this seems to be, it is not even a tenth of a percentage of the leaves this tree holds, but its enough to make a veritable wall of leaves outside the triple T.

Boerdir through the flurry of leaves you lead the kids inside.

Elyngael the leaves avoid you as you heard kids inside.

Yurr'Neshi the tavern is packed with people, halflings, a half-orc, many humans, a dwarf or two, some gnomes and some elves. Singles, Families, some drovers and some not readily identifiable. with the commotion going on outside, many are moving to look out the door.

Talyayou get the remainder of the kids inside, the small girl as a sting on her hand, right in the palm where she grabbed the thing. while it was obviously a sting, it's bleeding freely and does not seem to be swelling.

the leaf creatures swirl around Mack in a violent cacophony of chittering voices and screeches, the swirling gets more vigorous, the voices louder and louder until there is a "boom" and the sound of wood cracking on a massive scale from down below. the leaves pause for a breathless instant and then all at once scramble madly back into the boughs from which they came.

There is a pause, with the noise and the swirling leaves gone, it's almost peaceful for a moment. then the entire tree begins to shake violently (DC 13 vs reflex or fall prone.) someone screams "Earthquake" but then Miles, who kept his head and his footing says "NO! look there and points downward towards the lower levels.

On the ground, even from as far up as you are, it seems some people fell from the tree when it shook, they don't look injured but amongst them there seem to be trees walking.

If so, I'll need a quick ride down!" Atlas points at the same trees Miles is pointing at to indicate what he's talking about, then prepares to make as quick a decent as possible. Then a thought comes to him...

"Anyone have a Feather Fall spell to help me get down quicker? We cannot let them hurt the tree!" Atlas is a bit anxious. If something has the ability to shake the tree then it certainly has the ability to crush the life out of him in a heartbeat. Still, it's the only thing he can think of to do at the moment. He steps out of the doorway and replies, "I can get you and me down and 3 other people. I think we'll want druids to come with us."

Not waiting for Atlas to confirm his wishes, Beordir heads for the railing around the walk way they're on and steps through to the outer edge. "You'll need to get real close, preferably within touching distance."

Beordir reaches up to the necklace around his neck and starts reading it's emanations. It's subtle and hard to feel, but Beordir's mind is clear and he feels that spell's resonance.

Elyngael it wasn't something striking the tree, it was the tree itself moving, the shaking is the tree moving to react to the walking trees down below. Appently when something this big moves it makes some strange noises.

Yurr'Neshi?

Talya gets with the feather falling. it's strange though you feel the spell cast, you feel the magic flow, but there is a quickening to it. instead of the normall glow that usualy occurs when you cast the magic is brigher more powerful, but also more taxing.

With the spells cast, the crew make it down to the bottom, along with Miles and several of the Tree Militia.
Ciyridil had potions of FF in abundance. just for needs such as this.

On the ground floor, it's chaotic. You thought that the tree was shaking because it was moving, but tremors shake the ground at regular intervals that have nothing to do with the tree. The Walking trees turn out to be just that! tree-shaped giants with leaves for hair, barklike skin and faces of wood. roll DC 7 vs some applicable skill or INT to figure out what they are....or guess if you want. they are moving randomly. some are trying to heard the folks on the ground, some merely stand and stare blankly. a few move as though they aren't aware of what is before them...or are on a different plane of existence. a couple of those have been knocked over, you are guessing the TOP, while a few more of them look about to walk over anything in their path.

Not really waiting for the answer, he mutters some arcane words close to his chest, with his eyes momentarily closed. When he opens them, the world is overlaid with new colors representing the enchanted auras around him. Beordir turns to look toward the nearest Treant.

Mack: ignores the Treants and instead pitches in to help get the tree dwellers to safety.

Atlas: throws in to help as well.

Armand: strangely for having fallen over 30' in some cases, and more than that in others, except for some of them being freaked out, there are no injuries to speak of. All are very motivated to get back into the tree though.

前sul: You become the wind more completely than you ever have. you are one with the air. and the air is chaotic. As you rise above and send your senses outward you see that not far off, just over the nap of the earth, the weather is going from generally gloomy and overcast to really, really bad. You see funnel clouds lightening, and the rain that is falling is pushing the wind in such a way as you are going to have some gale force winds in less than 5 min.

Boerdir when you cast the spell the world explodes in a wash of color, the Treants look like hollow husks, the sky is blinding with the amount of magic suffused within it and the Tree of Parting is flashing in magic. three long flashes, three short flashes, three long flashes....over and over again.

Elyngael calls out to her companions what she heard from the Treants

Yurr'Neshi stands stunned at the sight of the Tree of Parting moving! he is speechless and stationary.

Talya Between you zipping and good coordination with the people in the tree harnesses are lowered down and the fallen are quickly pulled up.

Mack: casts his spell, the force of it is stronger, almost as if it were air that was suddenly released into a vacuum. the spell strips reality as you know it from you and suddenly you are touching the spirit of being that is ancient, powerful, benevolent and much much greater than your mortal mind. its senses are yours but the fit is off, it is both more limited and much greater than your senses at the same time. your awareness is consumed with the Tree nothing else exists. The sense of this being begins to coalesce into a form. it's humanoid, maybe elvish? but made of wood. It smiles at you and you feel warm inside.

Hello Remack...Mack...I am pleased that it was you who contacted me, I have watched since you came to live on me and of all the creatures that have passed beneath my branches you have been by far the most surprising. it is good that I get to talk to you .

A great Change is coming to the Wold, I know not what it is, but it will change this world profoundly, I fear for my charges in this time of peril, I fear for my Children.

I am old Mack, I have seen the world turn many times, and I think that this will be the last. I will not bloom again come spring, but I have produced my progeny, I was born of magic and sorrow, but the gods have seen fit to let me continue my line, When this change is over, if any survive, care for my seeds, plant them and nurture them in my shadow, for I would have a grove of my kind grow up here, and I need my Wardens and my dwellers to keep them safe, at least until they can keep you safe.

Atlas: is told that Mona is in her shop, trying to make sense of the omens she's getting.

Armand: shivers at the thought of undead treants, but are they? or has the chaos of this dark time merely destroyed their minds?

前sul: The closer you get to the storm the more it draws you in. the power, the ferocity the wild magic...its..intoxicating. Save VS Will or lose control before you can make your way back to the ToP. If you fail you are trapped in the storm until your spell ends.

Boerdir gets back up into the tree to find Mack touching the tree his eyes closed, vines from the tree have grown about him to shelter him from the coming storm.

Elyngael (Whoops sorry bout that, thought you were talking about the Tree of Parting not the Treants. Yes you are on a Treant, you can see the outskirts of the storm coming, it does not look good. Do you go back up into the Tree of parting or do you continue to ride the mindless Trent? ).

Yurr'Neshi This storm is not natural, but it's not a spell either. it's a symptom of something big happening.

Talya shares her insights with the rest of the group

Once everyone is back up in the tree the storm hits. Even the Tree of parting rocks in this wind. wagons are flipped over the edge of the tree, roofed houses have their roofs torn off and everyone has to lay on the floor, because the shaking is so bad you cannot keep your feet, conversation is almost impossible due to the roar of the wind and visibiltiy is almost zero due to the torrents of rain pouring down. it's almost like the world is ending.

DM RobC - "This takes the cake!"
Monday November 20th, 2017 6:04:30 AM

The rest of the party head indoors.

Talya finds a quite spot to do a little reading.

Armand, Atlas and Neshi head to the tavern. If you're going to be indoors during a storm, might as well be a place with some booze. Others have the same idead. There are sounds of nervous laughter from within the tavern. People trying to act brave and talk of this storm as if it were something normal.

Elyngael and Khan now make for the safety of the Tree. There is nothing to be gained by standing in the rain. Nothing to be gained but a cold that is.

Mack feels quite protected from the storm. He can feel the trickle of rain run down his face and feels the cold air on his cheek, but it isn't for long. The vines recede to allow him to move once more. Both he and Beordir notice there is crackly sound to the way the vines wrap back against the trunk of the Tree. It's like the sound of ice snap-freezing. The vines have an almost rock-like consistency and feel to them.

Inside and out the Tree is undergoing a change. Creaking and groaning noises and the wood expands and contract in different places. The changes are fairly consistant. Everything is hardening and going cold. The natural feel, look and smell of the Tree is completely different now. It feels ... cold.

The temperate inside the Tree is certainly getting colder. You can see your breath turn into mist as you exhale.

Meanwhile Osul is outside, moving with the clouds and wind. It's tough but he is still able - barely - to control his direction. Things are getting more violent. The wind undergoes swift changes in direction. The density of the clouds thickens. Above, Osul can see several clouds take the form of humanoids. Large, faceless, shadowy humanoids riding the storm and heading directly towards the Tree.

Tuesday November 21st, 2017 6:07:26 AM

Atlas and Mack look to the sky to try and find Osul. They only see the rain.

Well, with his exceptional sight Mack does see something past the rain. Three very large shadowy figures, flying amidst the clouds and headed right this way. They'll likely be at the Tree in the next 30 seconds. Shadowy figures are almost never good.

Armand tries to calm people down and suggests a little fire to warm the place up. He then tries to tell a story about.. what was it agan.. that time when.. was it in the Culverwood? His attempts to tell a funny story have the desired effect though. Rather than laughing at the story there are chuckles AT Armand.

Elyngael takes things up a notch with what sounds like thinking music on her flute that seems to poke some fun at Armand.

It may be cold outside but the atmosphere in the tavern is a little warmer.

Beordir enters and heads to Armand, voicing his concerns about the cold weather. Things are certainly weird today.

------------

Osul does his best to determine what these creatures are. There's 3 of them alright. It's alarming, but the only thing he can think of is that these creatures are some sort of undead elemental hybrid. That's his gut feel anyway. (Highlight to display spoiler: {I *think* you needed a Knowl Religion check, so didn't go into the detail there. I could be wrong on that though. He goes to light up the one(s) nearest The Tree with a Call Lightning, but something twiching and electric in his brain takes over... he moves to within 180' of the hybrids, and summons lightning at as many as he can within a 30' grouping. If nothing else, 30' tall bolts of lightning will make them more visible to those below.
They deal (with the prevailing conditions) 14, 19 and 17 damage to each hybrid (in turn, one each) if in the area (if the 2nd or 3rd are not within 30' then their bolts are not cast).

At this point, the best he can do is keep this up, and hopefully harass and harang them.

He makes quite the site out on the branches, lightning around him, wind whipping his hair and rain pelting his face. "Not on our watch!"

DM RobC - "Not on our watch!"
Wednesday November 22nd, 2017 5:48:40 AM

Neshi steps in to knock the performances up a notch.

Beordir and Armand discuss ways to protect themselves from the cold. A potion might just do the trick.

The peace and calm that had fallen over the people is broken by Mack's warning cry. The patrons all fall quiet and look to each other.

Mack casts a few spells in preparation for a fight as Elyngael does the same. They gather with Talya at the doorway, ready to protect those inside. The residents are hudling together and looking for things to barricade the doors and windows. "What do we do? What do we do?" They look to the trio for direction.

Atlas goes out on a limb and fearlessly calls out the challenge. He makes quite the imposing sight.

Osul does what he can to both slow these things down as well as alert the others. He calls down the lightning! In the midst of this storm the bolts are thick and strong. Please advise the DC to save against for half damage.

The three creatures drop to the ground landing as thick clouds of black smoke. As the smoke hits the ground the rain and wind immediately stop. The clouds remain dark and forboding and it is still quite cold, but it is bearable. It goes without saying that the weather is erratic today. Perhaps these creatures have had some sort of influence on it? Perhaps these creatures aare a result of it? Or perhaps they are completely unrelated?

From the smoke the figures emerge, standing back up to their full height. They start slowly lumbering towards the Tree. Their path is unwavering and their pace is steady: their target is without question the Tree.

It's been a long and confusing day. So much has happened in the space of 24hrs that there hasn't been any time to consider it all. Maab, the weather, the Tree, the treants, these things. It's more that most would see in a lifetime. Whatever is going on has to be big. Very big.

Atlas feels a bit silly as the strange creatures completely ignore him, and for the fact that he already requested feather fall from the group to get down the first time. He racks his brains to figure out what to do next, then it dawns on him that they are going for the Tree. He says out loud to no one in particular, "Could they really cause the Tree to die? Would it fall?" With that thought, he runs to the Triple T to find Armand.

"Armand, these crazy flying shadow things are about to attack the Tree. I'm heading down there, but I need someone with more brains than me to figure out if we need to get these folks to safety away from the Tree or in the Tree." And with that Atlas is off, calling for someone to lower him in the lift.

He then sets himself into a defensive posture as he feels his shoulders lighten from the potions effect

Atlas worries for the Tree and alerts everyone to the imminent threat. With no quick way down to the ground he settles for the lift.

Armand gives Atlas a little more protection for what looks like a big fight. He isn't afraid to throw the treants to the mercy of these things. Armand is pretty sure he's looking at some negative energy elementals. Real big ones too.

Beordir is close behind and downs a flight potion. He takes up a defensive stance. These things are coming this way right? Why not let them do all the leg work.

Elyngael is in a shoot first kind of mood. There are people behind her that are looking scared and some shadowy evil things coming this way. If now isn't a time to shoot, when is? Her first shot is true, but the second is a miss. It's gotta be the wind, am I right?

Mack and Squeaver look down. It wouldn't be that much of a jump/fall, but they're not willing to risk it right now. (Make a DC15 Acrobatics check and you'd 'only' take 1d6 non-lethal + 2d6 lethal)

The creatures easily shrug off the lightning assault from Osul, but take a surprising amount of damage regardless (Double damage. All saves made). The clouds are proving more than capable of delivering a solid charge. That could work both ways however.

Talya waits for the party to act before putting up a solid fog spell right in the way of the first enemy. Given their size she isn't able to affect more than one but at least it will slow it down a little.

Two of the elementals walk around the solid fog while the third is still in the fog.

They are close enough now that they are able to focus their energies. The negative power emanates from them catching a few of the treants in their range. Splinters fly from the treants but they still stand.

NE1 and NE3 are 70ft away from the Tree and closing. They seem to be ignoring Osul's assaults and pressing for the Tree.

NE2 is 100ft away from the Tree and still in the sollid fog.

No map needed. The DM will rule in your favor where there is ambiguity.

Atlas paces as the lift lowers. With Mack and Squeaver on the roof it's a fast ride. The trio make record time, arriving at the base of the Tree with a loud *thump*

Neshi shows off some acrobatic skillz, walking, tumbling and summersaulting down the tree. Once on the ground he reorients himself and throws a javelin of lightning at the closest figure but the javelin misses its mark.

Armand *hopes* his shot will do something but it too misses.

Elyngael has better luck. Her first shot is a good one, but it doesn't do the damage she was hoping for. These things just don't have a weak spot (Immune to crits)

Talya casts a glitterdust spell in their way, but it doesn't stop them. They just keep on coming.

Armand digs into his bag of tricks. NE1 is damaged (a little) whilst NE3 pauses for a moment, unable to see.

Osul saves the lightning bolts for later. He suspects they will be needed again soon. He starts casting another spell.

NE1 presses ahead, now only 30ft away from the Tree. It unleashes an unholy blast of energy. Atlas, Mack, Squeaver, and Neshi: Will Save vs DC22. Fail=30pts negative energy damage. Pass=half.

The nearby Treants burst apart as splinters fly about.

"What have we here?" asks the stranger who suddenly appears from behind the tree. He isn't a particularly handsome or intimidating human, but he's dressed in a magnificent crimson and gold suit, complete with a matching top hat. "Negative energy elementals, eh? Old ones too by the looks of them. You folks sure you're up for this fight?"

The stranger starts digging around in a pouch on his belt before continuing. "Never much like folks fighting my battles for me, but you lot look like you need a hand. Ah, here we are..." He pulls out a licorice root and runs it along the shimmering, prismatic, really expensive looking sword that hangs naked on his hip. He pops the shaving into his mouth & vibrates slightly. A rush of nervous energy flows from him & energizes the party.

"I'm Restlin, by the way. This terrifying creature next to me is Sesha. The consortium asked us to come check out what's going on around here."

Teleportation was a funny thing. It was so flashy, so sudden, but so so silent. Happily humming an upbeat, girly tune, the arrival of the dark elf girl was both sudden, and unexpected. And much quieter than that of the flashy human wizard next to her.

Both feet firmly on the ground, she lifts up a slender foot, taps the toe of her supple boot on the floor beneath, and stretches. Only when she spots the giant elementals thrashing people and things around her, does she stop humming.

"That doesn't look right."

Sesha observes their location. They seem to be on the ground level underneath the Great Tree, as she's heard it described. The folks in front of her and Restlin had formed a defensive line, and there was at least one flying around. There were quite a few people here, and all of them were hurt.

"So much to do, so little time.", she starts humming again, and casts a spell. A white nimbus of healing energy starts flowing around her, and anyone within 30ft of her, namely everyone on the ground level, heals 76 damage.

Atlas pushes forward through the pain, but it distracts him from his own attack.

Osul buffs his rhino (not a euphamism) and sends it in to charge. It's horn doesn't connect with the elementals form.

Elyngael keeps up her arrow assault with one striking true.

Armand warns the others, fearing this may be a battle the party just cannot win. He scrapes the bottom of his barrel of tricks and tries to command one to flee. Would you believe it? It actually works! (Nat1 on Will Save! Nice time for that one).

Armand draws on his heroic reserves to cast a Holy Smite spell. Elemental 2 took a little, but Elemental 3 takes the brunt.

Beordir flies over the railings - and the elementals - to land behind one and deliver a shocking grasp. His casting doesn't provoke an attack, but his movement there does. (Hit AC36. Beordir takes 16pts damage + 8pts negative energy damage Highlight to display spoiler: {That gets healed almost immediately. See below}Beordir must also make a DC18 Fort save or take 3 negative levels!) He does manage to shock the elemental though.

Mack just gasps as the wave of negative energy sweeps over him and downs Squeaver. (Highlight to display spoiler: {Potions have a CL equal to the minimum level required to cast the spell. For your specific ones: CLW=CL1, CMW=CL3}

The party are in a bad state, and are barely holding these elementals back from destroying the Tree and all who reside there. Things are always darkest before the dawn though.

Wardd smiles on the Tree of Parting this day, as two well-seasoned travellers approach.

One is Restlin - a mendicant of Wardd, who trusts in chance and luck. Just the kind of person Wardd would send. He quickly assesses the situation and finds a way to help bolster the attacks of the party with a Haste spell.

The other is Sesha - a bloodwitch of Serenbeth. Feared by evil, misunderstood by some, loved by many. She calls on the power of Serenbeth to heal the good and harm the wicked. Those on the ground are healed for 76pts, whilst the nearest elemental implodes. It's black miasma drawn back into a single focused point that then explodes outwards!

After healing 76pts damage, those on the ground now take 28pts damage! (Ref Save vs DC22 for half). The other elementals look a little stronger.

Neshi is ready to fight back now and casts an Ice Storm, managing to hit both elementals at the same time.

Elemental 2 turns to clobber the rhino. (Hit AC31 and AC34. Rihno takes 57pts damage)

Elemental 3 is no longer blinded. It pushes ahead and is now within its 15ft arms reach of the Tree. It tries to bury Neshi with a blow to his head (Hit AC33. Neshi takes 20pts damage + 15pts negative energy damage. Neshi must also make a DC18 Fort save or take 3 negative levels!)

Reflex: 36 - no damage (ring of evasion)

He hops back up to his feet, leaving himself somewhat exposed (AC this round is 18/9/15), but he seems to pay little attention. He starts digging around in his pouch again. "Too big for telekinesis to work, and I don't have Tink's fancy time stopping magic," he grins as he pulls out a small bottle shaped like a woman with her hands folded in front of herself. He opens the bottle & places a drop on his tongue before turning to the elementals & spitting a stream of sticky fluid at them. He helps himself to a nip of the syrup before returning it to his pouch. "...but I can do that!"

Atlas turns to attack the elemental closest to the Tree. He clearly hits with his first swing, but the damage doesn't seem anything like he would expect. He is clearly bothered by this as he manages to fumble his second attack.

Having noticed his actions are much quicker than normal Atlas turns to see the new folks talking to them. "Welcome strangers! When you get a second, look up at the beauty of The Tree of Parting and know that you're doing a good thing by being here to help. Monday November 27th, 2017 2:00:50 PM

Sesha looks at Restlin, her face singed by the gush of negative energy.

"Yes, Mage-Priest. I think they do explode."

Still though, he had given her an idea. She begins casting a spell, and only the last couple of words are articulated clearly.

"Time Stop."

Sesha watches the world slow, a curious sight. She makes her way to Atlas, and whispers in his ear. "You're doing plenty of good here, young warrior. Don't lose heart!"

She draws her dagger and grips it, then rips the blade across her palm. She uses her own blood to fuel her next spell, with little more than a wince at the pain. She half walks, half dances around Atlas, and enchants his sword, squeezing just a little blood over it's blade. She dips back behind him with a chuckle, and puts a small and slender hand on his shoulder.

"Creatures made of energy aren't quite as scary when you know what you're facing, warrior. Take comfort and be strong in the face of its shadows. They won't hurt you while I'm here."

Sesha casts Death Ward, a spell that makes Atlas immune to negative energy, energy drain, and negative levels. Any negative levels he's already taken are now suppressed. The sounds of battle start to creep back into her ears, and she gets in position, near her Mage-Priest once more - as her spell ends.

Standard: Time Stop.

Time Stop Rounds = 2

1= She casts Greater Magic Weapon on Atlas' weapon. His weapon is temporarily enchanted to +5 to hit and +5 damage. The effect lasts for 24 hours.

2= She casts Death Ward on Atlas @ CL 20. The effect lasts for 20 minutes.

Armand is still in the Tree next to Elyngael. How high up are we? I mean spells are hitting but if we wanted to get to the ground how long would it take?

Armand prays, "Lord Gargul hear your supplicant and grant me the power to stay the draining energies of these evil creatures." and activates Ward Against Death.
Ward against death (8th) 30ft aura protect against death for (rounds=lv) immune to death effects, energy drain, negative level drain.

Ward against Death (having used 1 round many days ago, yet still the same day in the Wold) round 2 of 8.

Armand wonders since part of the Tree is now encompassed in the protective energies of Lord Gargul how it will affect things...

He makes his way toward the lift ropes, keeping Elyngael, Talya and any others on the branch still in his circle. "I think maybe we need to get down there, we can't let these things near the tree." He contemplates grabbing a rope and sliding down.

It's not enough and he is buffeted further over, but comes back to wobble on his feet.

He's near one of the elementals, but not the one closest to the Tree, as injured as he is, if he steps away, he's surely going to get cut. he again rubs the amulet under his shirt, using it as a focus to center a quick defensive enchantment.

Remembering that these things have strong protection he shifts to a more forceful stance and thrusts his rapier at the one nearest to him. Unfortunately the disorder of everything around his is distracting and time is doing something funny, so his blade goes wide.

Osul calls down the lightning on the elementals

Mack makes a strategic retreat. It's like running away but manly. He gives Atlas a boost on the way past though.

Ever the lucky one, Restlin avoids the damage completely. Drawing on the equivalent of mouth-wash he slows the elementals right down. If only he had one of those time stop spells.

Wait. Sesha does! On casting it she sets to buffing Atlas quite considerably. He now has the benefit of haste, death ward, greater magic weapon and guidance. With that much he's practically an Iron Dragon himself.

Atlas is very grateful that the party have support. It might not be the best time to admire the beauty of the Tree but he encourages the duo to do so. With all the buffs he does more damage than he was expecting.

Neshi casts a spell to protect himself from any further negative energy waves.

Talya sends a ball of glitterdust towards NE3. It takes on a glowy look, but isn't blinded (Will Save 28=Pass)

Beordir tries to attack the elemental, misses, and circles around it.

Elyngael has less success this time around with her arrows. She prepares to head down to the base of the Tree with Armand.

Armand follows the suit of the others and casts Death Ward.

With Death Ward in place, Armand and Atlas seem almost immune to the attacks of the Elementals. Almost.

Elemental 2 is slowed and only has Beordir in range. It tries to knock him out once and for all (Hit AC36. Beordir takes 14pts damage + 3 negative energy damage)

Elemental 3 is also slowed but tries to attack Neshi (Hit AC35. Neshi takes 13pts damage + 7 negative energy damage)

Those on the ground are in trouble. Another Elemental explosion could be the death of someone....

-----------
NE1 - Blown to bits
NE2 - 71 - slowed
NE3 - 117 - slowed and glowing

NE2 - 30ft from Tree
NE3 - 15ft from Tree

The DM is being a bit kind this round seeing as he feels pretty good about his final exam. All of these things work this time around:
- Protection from Energy could not normally be used to protect from Negative Energy
- Circling around an enemy is still moving out of a threatened square and would normally provoke an AoO
- Time Stop normally doesn't allow you to target creatures with "any attack or spell". It's been a thorn in Tink's side that she can't buff her friends when using this spell.

Sesha frowns. People are getting hurt, and while letting the young warriors exercise their own demons is only going to make them stronger, no experience was worth a visit to the afterlife. She uses her enhanced movement, granted by Restlin's haste spell, to cover whatever point of distance necessary to put Beordir in range of her healing spells.

She casts Mass Cure Critical wounds again, affecting as many friendlies as she can. (If an enemy gets caught, that's fine too, but I wouldn't want to exclude a friendly. If only one person can be reached taking the position between putting Beordir on the 30ft edge, then she will move to heal Beordir and catch an enemy instead.)

Wow.

The party start coordinating their attacks and when they do so the elementals just do not stand any chance whatsoever.

Swords, searing light, polymorph, elemental rays, arrows. Great Gargul's beard I'm sure there's more, but just wow.

The elementals follow the same fate as their predecessor, releasing a wave of negative energy in their wake. Fortunately there is a Bloodwitch on hand who is able to tend to every wound.

It's eerily quiet now with nothing to fight.

The sky still looks incredibly overcast and these dark clouds twist and turn quickly across the sky. The rain has stopped and the wind near died out.

It's just so quiet though.

Still haven't taken much advantage of the fact that teleportation between the continents works again." He stoops & runs his hands along the bark of the tree. "Been busy."

The nimble Mendicant shoots back up & turns to face the party. "Anyway, what's been going on here? We've seen shadow orbs that lead to other dimensions, strange consorts healing rifts between worlds...whole bloody Wold's going nuts, it seems." He looks up and around. "Is it always this quiet around here?"

Atlas approaches the newcomers with a smile that shows how happy he is to be alive right now. "Thank you. I cannot imagine that we would have been successful without your help. However, your presence at just the right moment also brings up a ton of questions. Do you happen to have a moment to join us at the inn so that we can talk and figure out what the heck is going on in the Wold?

"Oh, and where are my manners. I am Atlas Sunowl, a warden of the Tree of Parting. I'll let the rest of our group introduce themselves."

Sesha watches the elementals dissipate. She busies herself patching up the wounds of all the final injuries caused by the death throes of the enemy. She absent-mindedly summons a Fiendish Dire Badger, and sics it on her Mage-Priest, without warning. He didn't get a chance to show off his more explosive talents, and she wanted everyone to know just how powerful the High Mage of her house was. It was good for her brand. The evil dire badger uses Smite Good and attacks without mercy.

"Impress us, consort. What method shall you choose to slay this vile beast?" she says, as she fusses over the last couple of cuts on Atlas. She looks up and smiles at the human, and pats him on the shoulder. "There's a million answers to that question, Atlas Sunowl, but we will do our best. Show us to your inn."

She sneaks a look over her shoulder, to check on the badger-fight.

Fiendish Dire Badger hits AC 12 for 5 damage.

He draws Shiny (his muscles seem to swell a bit as he does so), closes his eyes, and drops the sword. It falls clean through the badger's skull, leaving it convulsing on the floor. He lands, and a quick twist of the blade sends it back to wherever it is witches summon stuff from.

The blade comes out clean, polished and razor sharp. "Shiny 2, monsters zero," he declares as he reattaches the blade to his hip.

Restlin finally gets to see the fabelled Tree of Parting. He runs his hand along the bark. It feels cold and rock like, not at all like a normal tree would or should. One day he may get to show off his legendary maximised fireball

Will Restlin ever get the chance to blow something away? Apparently.. yes.

His dearly beloved summons a dire badger. You should see what Sesha summons when Restlin ticks her off!

The badger had a good 6 seconds in the Wold before it is easily dispatched and sent back to wherever summoned creatures come from.

Atlas is the first to introduce himself and thank the pair for their intervention.

Mack and Squeaver (the albino squirrel with a green stripe down its back) also look to the injured.

Armand takes a seat at the tavern and orders a stiff cider. He tries to comprehend all the things that have happened today and the day isn't even over yet! There may be some harder drinks needed.

Beordir does his introductions but turns his eyes skyward. The sky just looks so threatening. There is no rain, no wind, but he just has this feeling that things are faaaaaar from over.

Elyngael stays quiet, scouring the area for signs of any other approaching foes. All the treants exploded when the elementals burst. There are a few horses running about that have escaped their ties. Other than that she cannot see another living thing.

Neshi makes his way back to the Tree, still in a little pain from the battle. He's grateful for the newcomers aid.

Osul is intrigued. The Dragon Consortium asked the Iron Dragons to personally come to the Tree of Parting to check in on the Tree Wardens? That's got to at least say something about the party's reputation.

Talya is as confused as anyone. It's just been one of those days. Actually to be fair, there has probably never been a day like this before. Meet Maab, see mindless treants, the Tree of Parting animates, negative elementals attack, meet 2 members of the Dragon Consortium. Yep. Big day.

The party along with Restlin and Sesha make their way to the Tree Top Tavern. Armand is most of the way through his cider and Ciyradyl (the female elf tavern owner) already has some more warm ciders ready.

The fire burns but the room is still a little chilly. The warmth the Tree typically provides has gone. The patrons are quiet but smiling. You can hear them whisper and see them point. The Tree Wardens AND the Iron Dragons under the same roof. There's an awful lot of "hero" going on!

Sesha, Blood Witch of Serenbeth
Thursday November 30th, 2017 1:13:59 PM

"Excellent posture, Mage Priest. Perhaps I should pencil you in as our Sword Master as well? It would be more work for you, but it would cut down on salary costs I think." Though her voice was neutral, the twinkle in her eye and the suppressed smile gave away that she was anything but indifferent towards her wizard.

AFter the introductions are finished and they are taken to the inn, Sesha sits herself by Restlin at the table. Warm drinks were definitely the way to go. Sesha takes the warmed cider and thanks Ciryadel quietly, the drow was always a bit uncomfortable around the more fair skinned elves. After having been to the lands where her people and theirs spilled blood, it made things awkward, for her at least.

She retrieves a tiny cauldron from her belt, and sets it on the table. She dumps the cider inside, chants of bit of magic, and the drink suddenly bubbles with fizz, and changes in color to a very bright shade of pink. She takes a sip from her straw, and smiles brightly.

"That is more than acceptable! So, first things first."

With everyone gathered in one spot, she takes a final look around and casts the cure spells necessary to heal the Tree Wardens. (Sesha cast cure critical earlier that should have affected most everyone. If not, I have a butt ton of cure spells left. With DM permission, feel free to heal to full.)

"Now, to answer O'suls question. Yes, the Dragon Consortium have been sending the Iron Dragons to many places in the Wold. They don't tell us much, other than to request our presence. I have my own theory though, that they are using us to make sure that important landmarks or artifacts are safe."

She takes a quick look around and considers the Wardens each carefully, as if assessing them the way a queen might inspect her guard.

"Or perhaps, as the thought suddenly occurs to me, they are using us to make sure these sites are adequately guarded by heroes such as yourselves."

Her sudden thought exercised, she carries on.

"There were some magical gates in the float, places of import in Hook City, the Tree here, a ship over a dead gods burial site in the southern isles, and even the a small village of halflings in the Crescent Valley."

She takes a sip of the fizzy drink, then continues.

"In each place there are signs of something big happening, usually involving the Powers of the Wold. A being with power over death and one of the moons was closing portals to protect against some coming threat. In the halfling village I mentioned, V-Eldfjll is trying to literally move itself into their domain, fleeing from .. something their witches call the "Doom of the Wold." I suspect, here at the tree, there is likely some power under threat as well. Would you care to tell us your story?"

That pink stuff was pretty good, but too sweet in large amounts. Restlin drinks the cider as is. He wonders where Sesha heard about this stuff with the halflings in Crescent Valley. Wherever she learned it, she seemed to know a lot of specifics. Almost as if she wrote a paper on the subject.

"Yea, then there was that consort of the undead queen shutting the gates between The Float and wherever else that portal went." He wonders if she managed to offend the Wardens with her words. Lady was fierce, smart, and beautiful enough when she wasn't cutting bits of her face off, but she had a knack for saying the wrong thing.

He waits to hear what's been going on around these parts.

Not liking to be the center of attention, I relay the message I received from The Tree quickly, so I can get back to a quiet spot in the room.

"I was able to briefly bond with the tree, and it passed on this message to me:

"

A sadness comes over me. I sit back down in a quiet spot, and see if they make hot chocolate with Irish creme here.

"By the way.... Thank you for the healing, Sesha."

Atlas listens intently as Mack tells of his bond with the Tree. The idea that the Tree they had sworn to protect was dying on their watch is too much. He takes a long drink of his warm cider, sets it down and wipes his mouth with his sleeve. With his emotions being tugged in many ways he speaks up.

"Mack, thank you for sharing the message. I know that must have been hard for you." Atlas takes a breath and looks around at the group. "I swear I can already feel the change in the air around us, but it is probably my imagination." He shakes his head, still surprised, saddened, and confused.

Not sure what to say Atlas pauses, tapping his fingers on the table while looking down at his mug, clearly thinking. After a bit he looks up at Restlin and Sesha. "Thank you for bringing your message. I'm not exactly sure what to make of it at this time, but I feel that we have a duty to fulfill. I don't know if that is to stay here and protect the people of the Tree or if it is to seek out the greater evil that is infecting our Wold and try to put an end to it. Is there any insight that you have in regards to how we can best serve the Tree's request and the Wold at the same time?"

Armand is stunned and saddened by Mack's words. He contemplates what he said.

"Mack did the Tree give you seeds already? We will need to safeguard them. The other thing is we should probably tell Ciyradyl, and Folbre, and Laughingwater, and then I guess they will need to consider how to break the news to the rest of the residents."

He pauses and ever practical says, "And then we need to find out, when the Tree dies, what happens exactly, I mean a lot of normal dead trees stay up for a long time, how soon do we need to start moving the living quarters out of the Tree?"

He shakes his head and stares into his empty cup.

"Sesha the news you bring is certainly far from happy times. Ominous more like. I know Maab came to us and brought us back to the Tree saying we were needed here. But beyond that there was nothing really said of the how, why, and such. I guess we will try to be vigilant here. I wish there was some way to keep each other informed, with what was happening in The Float. I wonder if something similair is going to happen to all the major locations in the Wold. Hopefully there are people there to make a stand. It sounds like you Iron Dragons can travel around pretty easy, but I doubt you'll have much time from the sound of things. You will probably be in the think of things."

DM RobC - "I suspect, here at the tree, there is likely some power under threat as well."
Friday December 1st, 2017 6:12:47 AM

Sesha feels a little awkward around Ciryadel but she doesn't pick up on anything in return. Curing wounds is a simple task, and when done Sesha contemplates the motives of the Dragon Consortium: were the Iron Dragons sent to check on important sites, or to check that they were appropriately guarded? An interesting thought.

Restlin sits by and listens to Sesha, and waits patiently to hear what the party have to say.

Mack is the first to respond. Not quite knowing what to say he repeats the words of the Tree itself. It's a bit of a sad moment.

Atlas feels quite emotional about it. He may not have been the on eot speak with the Tree but he can feel the change it is undergoing. He's a man of action though and asks the duo for their opinion: should he defend the Tree or go on the offensive?

Armand is just as stunned. He probes Mack for further information and wonders what they should do now. How much time does the Tree have left? What should they do afterwards?

Elyngael is more that happy to volunteer to find this trouble. She is keen to show that there is ranger blood in her veins. But where to start?

The day is drawing to an end (finally!). The weather outside still looks unpredictable. The mood inside the tavern is considerably merrier. People have practically queued to buy a drink for the heroes. Families are slowly returning to their homes to check what damage may have befallen them.

"My goodness, you sure are a serious bunch."

Restlin flags down that elf with the cider. Obviously this was going to be a multiple-drink affair. "Ok, first thing. We're dealing with Powers here. That's Powers with a capital P. This dusky-skinned beauty next to me worships and receives her power from a 'dead' (Restlin makes little air quotes) Power, and she's one of the most powerful witches in The Wold. Point being killing a Power so that they don't come back is no small feat. They may sleep for a really long time, but they operate on a different time-scale than you and I do.

"Second, even if you can't save the tree yourselves, there's no shame in asking for help. I mean...Sesha and I slept through the dendrology portions of our studies, but there's always Peerimus down in his grove by Heranmar. There's a good chance he's really busy with what's going on, but this is a pretty important tree. Surely there's something he can do to help. He's not easy to get a hold of, though...

"I know. Sesha, hold my cider. I need to go talk to a turtle."

Restlin looks around, taking in details of exactly where he is. "Save my seat, everyone." He starts to cast a spell, then pauses & looks around. "Seriously, don't let anyone sit here." He finishes his spell and vanishes, leaving Sesha to discuss her wealth of knowledge about Powers.

Sesha, Blood Witch of Serenbeth
Saturday December 2nd, 2017 6:20:57 PM

Sesha watches Restlin whisk himself away, then promptly stands up and sits in his chair. "He is my consort, and I have informed him he will serve me as both husband and High Arcanist of my House, which I am due to inherit from Matron Mhalice when the consortium sees fit for me to retire from my current post. It would do him some good to remember he shouldn't tell me what to do, in front of company, at any rate."

She does answer Atlas though.

"He isn't one to hesitate on an idea. I think his biggest pet peeve is holding his fireballs while our more lawfully bent allies make sure it's okay for us to fight the people we often find ourselves in conflict with. It's a long list, that.""

She takes another sip of her concoction, then considers Atlas and his second question.

"Unfortunately, there isn't much more to explain. The history of the Wold is full of dead, banished, sleeping, and otherwise disenfranchised gods. I'm sure if they are able to suffer such a fate, then the smaller and less omnipotent "powers" of the Wold are just as susceptible. The thought that something is threatening not just the powers, but the gods as well, means that whatever is happening is an event of heavenly proportion. Which means that until we mortals know exactly how to help, all we can do is put out the fires as they pop up."

She thinks about her own words, then adds.

"I think that's the important perspective to keep. Each time one of us succeeds in preserving the sanity or vitality of another Power or Awakened region of the wold, that's one more being that we keep in the fight against whatever is coming. I hardly think that these odd happenings will suddenly end and this is just a weird pattern of attacks and monsters. Rather this is all just a byproduct of whatever is happening to spook the pantheons and frighten the semi-divine. When whatever - it - is, gets birthed into our World, screaming and tearing and hungry, it will be many times worse than what we are experiencing right now. "

She touches her holy symbol of Serenbeth, a preserved white rose she keeps on a pin in her hair.

"And the more gods and awakened and powers we have to pray to for help, the better off we are. That's why Restlin has gone back to speak to Torm, a Turtle who is also a venerable priest and the wisest creature we've met in our considerable travels. If anyone can help you save your tree, it's him."

We have heard stories of the Dragon Consortium, and the more good we do for the Tree the more focused we have become on the fight for good in the Wold. That has me wondering if we might ever be considered for membership. I'm curious how your group went about joining. Were you approached or did you seek it out? What great deed did you do to achieve your membership?"

Sesha, Blood Witch of Serenbeth
Monday December 4th, 2017 4:56:16 PM

Sesha sighs, and thinks about how best to field this one.

"We had just returned from a lead on some Teucri artifacts. The whole of Hook City is and has been bound to Teucri technology, as it hangs suspended on giant hooks in the sky that keep it from falling. The hooks aren't really connected to anything at all, they just float there."

She motions with her hands, trying her best to show what a floating city might look like.

"So whenever there is a cache of knowledge on the Teucri located, Hook City bureaucracy tries to get there first, since so little is known about the artifacts that keep thousands of people suspended in the air. Aside from their artifacts and edifices, they left very few traces behind. Hook City sent us to try and find a way to repair some of them that had failed. While so engaged, we stopped the ressurection of an old menace named Grendel the Cruel. When we returned home, the Consortium was waiting for us."

She takes another sip and frowns, apparently dissatisfied. "Not enough bubbles."She waves her hands, and more bubbles and fizz appear, and she settles back into her chair.

"They held a fancy dinner and invited us to join. Everyone else thought it was a good idea, but I knew firsthand what happened to groups who failed in the Consortium tests. Or at least, in my opinion, what happens. They told us they had been watching us, and wouldn't reveal their sources. Their network is huge, and I've come to expect that there's nothing I do they don't know about. "

She adjusts her legs, then continues. "So from there we went on a number of missions for them, culminating with our acceptance after investigating some things in Fae Skemir, Queen Ma'abs realm." She thinks a bit, then adds. "It's weird you know, when they send you into a situation with so many ramifications. What if you fail? I couldn't help but wonder if Valdor Dragonstone was just going to jump out of the woodworks and rescue us, but he never did."

She sighs, apparently there was a rough memory in there somewhere.

"So they'll come for the Tree Wardens too, I imagine. To see if you want to become something more than defenders of your realm, but rather defenders of all realms. The correct answer is not always yes, you should make sure your group is cohesive and ready, and trusts one another implicitly. My first adventuring group, the Shadow Guardians, failed the same trial we were assigned in Fae Skeimer. The acceptance missions have a way of breaking fragile bonds, or cementing strong ones. Just make sure you are ready when they do come knocking."

Hook City sounds like place out of time. The whole place floating in the air. That is so far removed from the woods Beordir has lived in. Plateau City was also interesting. There were a lot of people, but most of them were polite. Still...the Tree was much more like home.

"It sounds like you and your...consort are not home very often. Though you do get to do more good than staying at home and learn many new things....Hmmmm. Now I see why you say it's a tough choice."

Beordir is quiet after that revelation, thinking to his family a long way across the Sea of Green.

Atlas listens intently as Sesha explains, leaning forward on the table and practically hanging on her every word. A slight look of disappointment crosses his face when she finishes, but he quickly smiles and his mood seems much better than before. He sits back in his chair, keeping his hands wrapped around the mug on the table. "Thank you for sharing your story with us. Sometimes I swear I'm still that 10 year old boy that loved listening to grandpa tell stories by the fire. However, I must admit that I'm also concerned our time will not come. As a group, we've had a lot of turnover. Our core is getting stronger, with 'Osul, Armand, Beordir, Mack, and I having built a strong bond. I would trust them with my life. It's those last few rooms at our hall though. Maybe Elyngael, Tayla, and Neshi find it in their destiny to join us for longer than those in the past."

Atlas looks over at the three of them and smiles again, "Not to put too much pressure on you or anything." He follows it up with a wink so they know he's just playing around.

Atlas thinks for a moment, then turns and asks another question to Sesha, "If we were to decline the initial offer, would there ever be a second chance, or is it a one-time offer only? You did mention that your first group failed, so you certainly had a second chance. However, saying no is different than trying and failing."

Mack: thinks about tree seeds and hamburgers, but in thinking of the seeds he has an inkling that it will be something that he will know when he sees it,

Atlas: realizes that he has perhaps molded himself into the image of a hard-bitten warrior a too much. but how much is stress and confusion and how much the slings and arrows of the world? Sesha's explanation helps a bit.

Armand:, Talya and Elyngael all realize that great change is afoot, and that the future is far from certain, and while one sees profit and the other sees duty, both come to the same conclusion, that there must be some record, while the third believes that rather than a record, there is information to be gained. . luckily Arnos Faulk already has a seat at one of the tables and is, in his engaging way, teasing stories out of Dungarth and Boolia. it seems that strong drink will loosen the tongue.

前sul: cannot help but worry about the tree, and seems anxious to do something.

Boerdir think about how the current troubles will be reflected and received back home. He is respectfully stunned at the responsibility inherent in being a member of the Dragon Consortium.

Yurr'Neshi feels much refreshed by Sesha' healing. but still troubled inside by the tidings they bring.

The Dragon Consortium members bring a sense of calm to the Triple T, They are the Dragon Consortium after all. Where once there was nervous babbling and nervous energy in this place, it has calmed down to a tired worry, drink and food flow. The tree folk hang off the newcomers every word.

Sesha, Blood Witch of Serenbeth

Sesha regards Atlas cooly. He was curious, this one.

"Atlas, she begins. "You seem to have a desire -to know-, rather than just hear. Among my blood-kin, that is dangerous. Among my people, that is respected." She wonders how much to explain about each part, then decides she will just let the story flow and he can interject as he sees fit.

"When I adventured in It'lal, in the northern continent, I was one of the Shadow Guardians. I was assigned to a good-will party, our mission was mostly to help It'lal recover both its power, and its reputation."

She grins.

"We made great strides. At first, things were great. We were seven .. surface drow.. as we knew ourselves to be called then, and one halfling. We rose quickly, fighting our way through the Wolds evils one by one, doing our best to teach others that the drow were not all evil as the most extreme examples of our kind. Ekeing out a life on the surface was difficult."

She tilts her cauldron upside down for a moment, then places it back on the table, empty.

"I was still very young, and the Matrons had taken an interest in me, which meant much scrutiny. It was more than I could bear. I got into a terrible spat with one of them, and I was removed from the Shadow Guardians, for the span of an entire year. During this time, I was sent on a number of tedious diplomatic affairs, I supposed aimed at teaching me my place, or patience."

She adds with a note of sadness.

"I kept up with my friends through the giggling ghost, all the while stuck in a trading post of a place called Brynn Baranz. I kept up with all the developments. They discovered an ancient drow shifter named Defias in Fae Skeimer, who helped them on their first consortium mission. They acquired a companion, a surface elf, and from there things began to fall apart."

Sesha pauses, looking to make sure there's no one around she might offend.

"Fae Skeimer is a place of terrible truths. The split amongst the elves was a terrible thing. Racism, fear, and tribal warfare erupted there, and as a way of appeasing their gods, the surface elves commited terrible atrocities while blaming the twilight elves - my ancestors through blood -, as we learned they were called, for everything. Eventually, the war became two sided, and hate was the common currency of the time. It was during the final moments of uncovering these truths and faced with their consequences on the history of the Wold that the Shadow Guardians fell to infighting, racial hatred, and arguments. They technically succeeded in their mission, but hatred was in their hearts and they failed their test. Shortly after, shamed and angry with each other and themselves, they disbanded and scattered to the four winds."

With some measured constraint, Sesha keeps her anger at a simmer.

"I still don't know how much to blame the Dragon Consortium, I think they knew the Guardians shouldn't have gone on that trial yet. But the Wold always needs heroes, and the consortium is the furnace that tempers their steel. Sometimes though, the blade is flawed and shatters in the kiln."

She smiles, as happily as she can.

"That is how the Shadow Guardians failed. I think it is no coincidence I was sent to the same place they floundered. Thankfully, my bonds with Restlin, Tink, Garret, Bosk, and Beriothan, the only Iron Adventurers at the time, were strong enough to see us through. I didn't even want to join at first, until I learned that Valdor had brought a dead god back once already, and I thought perhaps he might teach me to do the same with Serenbeth, my cherished Little Spirit"

"So, in the morning, if that comes with at least a side serving of daylight, we search high and low for seeds. Yes, literally high and low."

Sesha's discussion about the Shadow Guardians - the tales of the (plural) drow and the hobbit - puts him to mind of the (plural) drow and the liontaur.

"... but not until after meditation. And the more gods and awakened and powers we have to pray to for help, the better off we are."

"Hey your majesty," he says to Sesha over their link. "Torm (and maybe Tink) and I are down here to check out this business with the dying tree. The Wardens should steel their patience and come have a chat with him." Once they arrive, he makes introductions. "Wardens, this is Torm, High Priest at the temple of Ma'ab in Hook City and probably the wisest being I know. Torm, these are the Wardens, tasked with keeping the Tree safe."

Then, the mage priest finds somewhere comfortable to sit & watch the proceedings. He was curious to see how the Wardens handled the situation.

At the prospect of something exciting, he decides not to pepper her with questions. He whispers under his breath, "Patience, you need to learn patience."

Heading down with Sesha and the group, Atlas is surprised to see the turtle. "You were not kidding."

As the turtle talks Atlas listens, but it is a struggle not to jump in and finish it's sentences. Once the turtle finishes its thought Atlas responds kindly. "Welcome to the Tree of Parting. Mack: is still quite caught up in thinking about the Tree's legacy and hasn't had time yet to include an ancient giant wise turtle into the equation.

Atlas: shows patients and restraint far in excess of what even he himself thought he was capable of, and in doing so makes a good impression on the newly arrived Testudines.
Armand: As fascinating as a story about the prairie fire of '43 is, the arrival of a paragon of wisdom trumps it quite handily.

前sul: is drawn out of his obsession with finding the tree seeds by the mention of Torm.

Yurr'Neshi finds his curiosity piqued at the thought of meeting Torm and husltes down to the tree bast to meet him.

Restlin arrives at the base of the tree with Torm in...tow...the party all make their way down to meet and greet him.

The skies are still overcast, but the wind is still and it is quiet, spoken words seem to disappear as soon as spoken. an effect due in part to their being few hard surfaces for the sound to bounce off of, but also it's more noticeable now because nothing chatters, chrips whinnies or whines in the world around you. if it were not for your heart and your breathing and the noise of those around you it would be dead quiet...

Feeling a bit more relieved that the tree isn't actually dying Neshi eyes the seed and the sapling with some concern. Stepping forward, Neshi asks a simple question of Torm.

" The Tree didn't manage to mention anything about where it might like his progeny to be taken to did it?"

"As I recall what little I know of trees they generally do not want to compete with their seedlings and tend to spread them a fair distance away if they can unless they are actually near to the end of their span of years....

Of course ew are talking about a "Power" and just some plain tree, but..."

Sesha tugs Restlins sleeve.

"One moment please."

She crosses to Atlas, and slips a ring off of her finger and presses in into his palm. The ring is fat, made of bone, with a carving of a snake dyed with black ink wrapping around it's circumference.

"My name among the Ga'alin translates, literally, to black snake. Please accept this token as my well wishes for you Atlas. I felt like we connected a little, perhaps."

She waves and runs back to Restlin, squeezing his arm.

"Take us home, Mage-Priest. I'd like to spend some alone time with you before we get dispatched again. Farewell Tree Guardians!"

The words of the assembled heroes and the... turtle... are kept safely scribed upon Talya's finest parchment. Ready to start the journey to plant the Tree's children, she fastens her bag and mutters aside to Yurr'Neshi.

"Things certainly don't stay boring around here, do they? We've only been here awhile and we're already leaving on world-changing business. I suppose our Consortium pursuit will have to wait."

Atlas watches the proceedings with interest, not exactly sure what to say. He decides that letting the others do the talking in this case is probably best.

As he deciphers what he has heard he sees Sesha approach. He is completely caught off guard by her gift and kind words. Reverting back to that awkward person from earlier, he struggles to find words, but he does eventually recover with some grace, 悩ou have caught me empty handed and tongue tied.. He pauses to take a breath, then continues, 祢 can honestly say that this is the most honest and rewarding gift I have ever received. Thank you my lady Sesha, you are a unique, beautiful gift to this world and I consider myself fortunate to have been graced by your presence this day.

Another pause, Atlas racks his brain for something from his youth. Then it strikes him. 埜e have a saying back home when friends part. I haven稚 said this in years, but if I remember it correctly...May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May Serenbeth hold you in the palm of Her hand. He bows his head to her as he accepts her gift, then says under his breath, 祢 might have personalized that a bit.. He looks up, winks and smiles just before she runs off.

Mack: finds that his imaginings are not quite reality, The seed for such a mighty tree you would expect to be grand in size or magnificence. It looks like a Buckeye, lustrous reddish-brown and about the size of a halflings fist. The sapling is even less impressive, except for its leaves, barely 6 in tall it's three leaves dwarf the tree itself and are shaped somewhat between a fig trees leaf and a maple, one thing is for certain, they are designed to suck up the light.

Atlas: with honesty and sincerity accepts Sesha gift, even a warrior can be smooth every once in a while.

Armand: continues to record the event.

前sul: wishes there were more progeny, but is still humbled by that there any at all.

Boerdir laughes at Macks levity. his relief is profound though when the turtle comes back out with the seed and sapling.

Elyngael prepares her self for the sacred honor of planting the Trees progeny.

Yurr'Neshi asks good questions, where is the best place to plant the seed and sapling.

Talya has more than she could hope for to write about, and now to do.

With the Turtle Torm out of the tree carrying seeds of the trees progeny, The consortium agents prepare to depart, their duty done and a bit of quiet time calling their name. A few questions have yet to be answered, but things seem to be winding down at last.

Beordir leans back on the rail and remembers, [b]"Well, we know the Tree was attacked by three air elementals. We also know that normally, creatures do not readily travel from their native plane to ours. We know there is a storm off to the east that lingers as no storm has. Torm knows the Tree fears something in the world and we trust Torm's word."

"Questions I can come up with off the top of my head : Who called those elementals here? Is there some sustaining magic that could transfer more outsiders to the Tree? What controls the placement of that storm? Anyone know any powerful entities for the Elemental Plane of Air."

He looks around to see who else has questions.

"I leave the nature things to you and Mack." He tells 'Osul.

He looks around. "I for one am quite tired. It's been a long day. Before we set out finding a spot to plant the sapling, I could use some rest to refresh my spells. If you recall, this day began with us investigating the sewers in Plateau City, encountering that strange golem, encountereing Maab herself and being transported here, or near here, then walking back to the Tree, those strange leaf creatures that accidentally attacked the child, then the storm blows in with those negative energy elementals, then the two visitors, and the Turtle Torm. It's been quite the eventful day."

He sighs and stands up. "Plus! Our mounts are still back in Plateau City! Unless Maab somehow transported them as well and we just have not seen them around. That puts all of us back on foot and narrows our choices for how far we can safely travel. And by safely, I mean how far we can get from the Tree since I think we need to hang around here and provide a defense. Something obviously wants to eliminate it for some reason."

He pauses and seems momentarily lost in thought. "I wonder, if when a new power or god or entity comes on the scene if it somehow must take power from what is already there, sort of like a balance or something." He shrugs. "Oh well, that's way above my level of philosophical and religious thinking level."

It's DM point dispersal time! so many points! it's like point Christmas all up in here!

first off everyone gets 1000xp for the current adventure. Plus another 6500XP for the last scene in the sewers.

when everyone awakens in the morning there is a large pile of gold, gold wiring, gems and other valuables piled neatly on the table with bow and a note atop it. The note reads.

Wardens,

In my haste to get you to where you could do the most good I inadvertently cheated you of the rewards that come from defeating such foul creatures as you did. I have remedied that plus a bit for your trouble. -M.

He pauses briefly when he notices the pile of valuables on the table. Surely Mack will be around to collect it all soon enough. He continues on outside without disturbing anything.

He heads down to the ground so he doesn't disturb anyone. He does seven laps around the Tree to warm up. Given the temperature, he decides to work through the seventeen forms of Running to Death as they are all vigorous.

Finally in an appropriate state of mind for study, he returns back upstairs only to find Mack fast asleep on the pile of valuables. That didn't take long.

Once upstairs he recalls that there's some uncertainty about what is critical today. With his mind clear, Beordir studies some of his spells, but chooses not to push himself fully. Then he packs his bag in case he needs to travel quickly expecting to need study time later. Finally, he heads back downstairs for breakfast...

Unaware of the happenings in the head quarters, Armand continues to get stories at the Triple T.

Elyngael (Lynnette D) AC: 20 (T:14, FF:16), CMD 20, HP 65/65
Sunday December 17th, 2017 5:40:17 PM

Elyngael wakes up and wanders around the headquarters. She see's Mack counting a bunch of gold and other trinkets. "You guys sure have a lot of money just lying around."

Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 24 (T 14 FF 20) , CMD: 26/21, HP 86/86
Sunday December 17th, 2017 6:03:51 PM

Atlas wakes from his long night of sleep. He wanders about doing his morning routine when he sees the treasure. He lets out a loud "Whoo hoo!" just on instinct. He then notices Mack and he quickly wakes up the halfling. "Get up buddy, I need to start counting so we know how much we have."

Atlas doesn't wait for Mack to get up, he just starts pulling it out from under him hoping for something spectacular to happen :-)

Yurr'Neshi (Kent) AC:(26)21/(21)17/(22)18; HP:60/60 CMD: 17 character sheet Mage Armor, stoneskin, haste
Sunday December 17th, 2017 8:44:32 PM

'Neshi enjoys the first real comfortable sleep he's had on what seems forever. Once awake he wanders out and down the hall hoping he remembers where the bathing chambers are and then heads to the kitchen to find something to eat. He hears others stirring but hasn't seem anyone yet, so unsure of protocols with this group as yet, gets the wood stove heating up and then looks to see what he could make a lot of should others appear shortly.

Hope fully finding a large square pan for the top of the stove, as well as sausages cheeses eggs onions and some seasoning he begins chopping and and cooking what appears to be on very large soufle like omelet.

'Osul looks at the table for a moment and asks, "So, are we supposed to gild it?"
He then heads back into the kitchen to ensure the reservoir is full for the day, and 'Neshi appears to have a handle on things for breakfast.

I count the coins one more time, just to make sure my math wasn't off.... and to feel the coins slide between my fingers. Although really, I much more like the sparkle of the gems. I spend a lot of time looking at those, and wondering why I like them so much.

Armand (Robert D) AC 17/touch11/flat15 HP 57/63 CMD 18 Character Sheet
Monday December 18th, 2017 8:38:15 PM

OOC Mack/Eric I don't know if we need another wand of healing, light, moderate, or otherwise, unless someone else is going to be in charge of it. Generally in battle Armand is going to have access to better party healing through channeling. And if you're too far away for channeling you're too far away for a wand to do any good. I believe we have several potions of cure light wounds that everyone should have access too, though we are getting to the level where we should consider getting potions of cure moderate as a stop gap if you are out of range of the cleric.

Beordir (Galen) AC: 22/15/17, CMD 20, Saves: 6/7/6, HP: 53 / 53
Monday December 18th, 2017 8:47:54 PM

Beordir comes in and grabs a roll before joining his friends at the table full of valuables. He watches as Mack finished counting it vaguely amused by the commotion. He accepts his share with thanks, before retiring back up stairs to study a hopefully more useful batch of spells.

Elyngael (Lynnette D) AC: 20 (T:14, FF:16), CMD 20, HP 65/65
Monday December 18th, 2017 9:09:49 PM

Elyngael accepts her share of the funds, buys Khan a big raw steak and takes him outside to eat it. She sits with Khan and looks around trying to decide what to do next.

Atlas Sunowl (Trey) AC: 24 (T 14 FF 20) , CMD: 26/21, HP 86/86
Tuesday December 19th, 2017 12:05:55 AM

Atlas listens in on the conversation, surprised at the lack of enthusiasm for all this treasure. "I like Armand's idea about upping to potions of Cure Moderate Wounds." He then looks around for a second and asks, "Anyone seen James?"

Talya (Jacob J) AC: 19 (T:13, FF:16), CMD 16, HP 50/50
Tuesday December 19th, 2017 3:07:55 AM

After a well-deserved rest, Talya wakes up and refreshes her spells. It's not long before she joins the others at the table of gold. Its not quite as alluring to her as to the others (knowledge is the true treasure after all), but she wouldn't mind getting a new staff...

Neshi finished of the egg frittata making sure to leave a couple of serving without meat and with a few extra veggies, slices up a bit of fruit and puts some bread and cheese on the table.

By now the odors of breakfast should be wafting down the halls.

Neshi looks around for a bell or some sort of signaling device and if found rings it once only.

He pulls his shirt out and makes a bit of a basket with the bottom front as his arm scoops his share from the table. Armand (Robert D) AC 17/touch11/flat15 HP 57/63 CMD 18 Character Sheet
Tuesday December 19th, 2017 8:18:58 PM

Armand continues to troll for the history of the Tree of Parting.

James comes into the head quarters carrying a large basket. You catch the smell of freshly baked breads. "Hello good sirs and mam's. I went out and bought a variety of breads and stuff for breakfast." He sniffs the air. "But I can tell you may be wanting a more hearty breakfast than fresh bread, butter, marmalade and honey. I shall endeavor to do better. Perhaps I shall take orders for servings in the evening? With that in mind what would you be wanting for lunch and dinner?"

OOC, I realize that there was no place for James to stay in the Head quarters. So I just added a room under the stairs. We can assume there is a duplicate room under each stair.

Mack: James, being a good butler, house setter, cook and general domestic master, has cinnamon and sugar creamed rice for you,

Atlas: James seems happy to see you as well, and pats you on the back affectionately, as he sets a big plate full of various pork products, fried potatoes and eggs in front of you.

Armand: seems stunned by the financial windfall and asks what he should do. James sets a bowl of grits, eggs, cheese, and sausage in front of him.

前sul: proposes a way of protecting the seed. James sets a plate of potatoes au gratin with ham and cream gravy.

Boerdir offers wisdom to Armand James sets an elven dish called Hot fruit salad in front of you. it's a dish of various melons, purple onions feta cheese and pepper that has been tossed in a hot bowl until the melon cubes are slightly browned, the feta cheese and onions are added after the cooking.

Yurr'Neshi no WLA at the Tree of Parting, but for a carnivore James has a awesome breakfast, but he first inquires if you wish you meats raw or cooked?

"Well guys and gals, I don't think anything is happening around here. I suggest we make a quick up to the Culver wood. We can plant the sapling at the edge of wood. I mean if anything evil is looking for the Tree's 'children' how hard is it going to be find a single tree in a forest?"

A little confused, Beordir muses, "Oh, I didn't know that was a purpose of a sword. Then, you could try Steel to Make you Sing."

To Armund's suggestion, Beordir worries, "If that storm watches us, we would seal that sapling's fate. Perhaps we should travel under some protection against scrying and tracking."

over flagons of ale, wine, and water. good food and dancing. the wardens discuss what to do with the sapling, what to name a sword and various other things. The wardens have suggestions. from the robust. 'slicer, Doom blade, to the odd. "The question of blood". as far as the sapling is concerned. the consensus seems to be to keep it at the tree for a spell until it has grown enough to have better protection from roving herbivores.

it seems that everyone wishes to live a little. what is normally just an average night at the Tree Top Tavern turns festive as it seems everyone in the tree turns up, and even for a close-knit group such as this everybody seems friendly and talkitive.

"I thought the storm was past?" Elyngael asks.

"Maybe a run to Culver Wood would be good. How far away is it.? (OOC Should Elyngael know how far away the Culver Wood is?)

Aren't we in the Culverwood already?

Atlas chuckles a little, "No Neshi, we're in the middle of nowhere. Culverwood is to the north a ways.
I think this would be a great time to show the new folks around. What does everyone think, in the morning we pack up and make a trip to Culverwood so that we can show the new folks around? Maybe we can find some trouble wandering about to keep us sharp. If so, I'm heading to bed so that we can start early."

(OOC: where on any of the Woldian maps is the Tree actually located. There is not on map which has it marked.......)

'Osul smiles and points up at one of the walls in the Tree Top Tavern which proudly displays a map of the region.
The tree is visible on the Izen map, which can then be used to better place it on the Culverwood map.

He is also more than a little please with the reaction of the team this time to visiting The Wood, and for the benefit of the more recent arrivals, he tells a little of his home and his travel to The Tree from The Wood a couple of years back.

Despite the general enthusiasm he asks, "Wasn't the sapling provided for us to commune with? I was assuming that would be much closer to The Tree."

Talyah nods, ready to go to bed after a day of scribing and researching.

"Be careful with that sword, Atlas. Names are strange and powerful things at the best of times..."

"Another walk through the Sea of Leaves. I'm in. On the morrow then..."

Beordir finishes his dinner and retires for the night.

(OOC Is the storm still near the Tree? I don't recall it fading once we dispersed the air elementals.)
