DMs Only: Agents of the Fist

About The Game The board surrounds the idea that all the PCs are members of the Mailed Fist mercenary organization. Really need to read the Woldipedia on this organization!

Module 1 = The group starts out as recruits who are ready for graduation exercises. Individuals are selected into Fists, get introduced to their Sergeants, and complete in a three-part contest on who will be the Honor Fist at Graduation. Our two teams are paired together (a Fist = 1 Sergeant and 4 mercenaries) and they win the glory of being Honor Fist.

a. There is a Minotaur Fist that is rivals to the PCs. So far, it is only teasing and misleading information.

Interlude = The group is asked by a Quartermaster “Q” to find out why there are rats in her warehouse before she is demoted or worse. The group finds a box that is a rat’s nest and learns the rats had to have been moved in with malice.

Module 2 = The group is sent to recover a stolen magic book. The town of Cheerful Stay is attacked by undead, and there is another adventuring party in the area who defeat the PCs in combat, but don’t kill them. Eventually, the PCs get the book by asking nicely. There is a lot of bad blood between the other adventuring group, mostly because of personality conflicts between previous DM and the Players.

a. I would not bring any loose ends back to life with this module. Best let sleeping dogs lie.

Module 3 = Q is back and so is her trouble. She hires the Honor Fist to find out who is framing her before she is court martialled and executed. This should be a quick little module with the PCs taking out a wererats nest and clearing Qs name. This also changes their fortunes as they are recognized as special mission operatives, or …. Agents of the Fist!

Character Notes Cameron Honeytamer Steelshaper - Halfling Ranger/Bard - Played by David Feest The tiny leader of the group, or as close as the Fist gets. Hangs back in combat and peppers enemies with arrows, usually while buffing his allies with bardic performance. Also has a sword, but prefers ranged attacks. In roleplaying, he uses a lot of Diplomacy, and is very good at it. Also fairly sneaky, although that rarely comes up because of Bliss (see below).

Carver - Centaur Paladin - Played by John C. Hands down the tank of the group. Deals out massive damage with his spear and rarely gets hit. When he does, he’s got the HP to stay up. Usually charges right in and uses himself to block the casters. Outside of combat, generally hangs back unless he has a direct question/statement.

Tinker - Dwarf Rogue - Played by SteveK Prefers missle attacks, but has been sucked into playing secondary melee warrior most fights. Very much a skill-monkey, although not in the social skills. Concentrating his skills on locks and traps. If there’s a lock that needs picking or something that needs hiding, this guy’s your dwarf.

Prudence Grundle - Human Sorcerer - Played by Kathy Ice Prudence is a solid striker, pouring out consistent damage every round. Also a good buffer, but will likely move more into damage spells in the future. The one character that doesn’t have much of an “epic” background, but makes up for it with solid roleplaying. Outside of combat, she uses Diplomacy as her most effective skill.

Bliss - Halfling Sharpshooter/Blood Witch - Played by Cayzle Boy, Bliss is really… something else. Leave it to Cayzle to come up with one of the most oddball characters! :-) A large part of Bliss’ role-playing revolves around his companion, Mookie the raven. (read his Character Sheet). SteveK as Temp DM set up rules parameters for Bliss and they are on his PC sheet. Mookie is a role-playing companion and so incurs no combat advantage (he disappears in combat rounds). Bliss’ Stealth scores are epic, matched only by his shooting that bow of his. Play to him being comedy relief.

William the Courageous - Human Wizard - Played by Ken Pretty standard wizard stuff, conjurist specialist. Likes to summon a lot, but they don’t last too long these days, and Ken knows how to work summons well so it flows well. Other than that, William puts out solid damage each round with his school powers. Outside of combat, fairly quiet character who makes a lot of knowledge checks, being a wizard.

Nikolai - Half-Elf Monk - Played by JonathanT Fairly righteous character, probably the most LG of the bunch. Excellent in combat, rarely gets hit thanks to buffs and deals solid damage. Outside of combat, very active in the environment, eg. using acrobatics to get up somewhere for a better vantage point.

Linden - Centaur Cleric - Played by Jay B Decent damage output, although a little squishy. Obviously the healer, but mildly supported by Bard/Paladin in that regard. Very “easy-going” character (says dude a lot) and likes to joke about ingesting different substances. (Jay is playing the centaur like a 1960s flower child.  :-) Outside of combat, is usually the first one to question orders from their Sergeants.

Notable NPCs

Note: The PCs are only 3rd level, and are not going to have THE big guy paying much attention to them. I have reduced the ranks of the NPCs (hopefully subtly) and they can slowly grow into talking to bigger people.

Pavillon Nuterius - Human/Fighter 12: 6’0” 185lbs Pavillon Nuterius is the former leader of the Wolf Regiment and current leader of the entire Mailed Fist. He is rather young, only 32, handsome, and quite charismatic. He is a great leader and well respected throughout the Fist. Unfortunately he feels the Might Makes Right and because the Mailed Fist has all the power, they should be in charge. Nuterius is also extremely ambitious. A certain nation (to be decided later) has not defaulted on their payments to the fist. Nuterius has decided that if they do not repay, in full, by (time to be decide later) that he will march the full force of the Mailed Fist and take the entire nation as payment.

Constance Palance - Human/Ranger 10: 5’7” 130lbs Newly promoted company commander in Wolf Regiment. Palance actually graduated with Pavillon Nuterius and is quite close to him. That being said, she realizes his ambition as his weakness. She has urged him not to consider waging war on a nation as a means of debt repayment. He thought she could be bought by promoting her to his former position. Palance is a very strong-willed woman who is unequaled in mounted warfare on her War Charger Ronin. She is hard-headed, and stubborn, but fair.

Sgt John Trimmack - Human/Fighter 6’3” 215lbs Sgt Trimmack has been with the Mailed first for 7 years. 3 of those were spent training in the Eyrie, and the last 4 were spent in the Forged. When Riddleport was destroyed, he was called back to the Eyrie for reassignment. He has been promoted extremely fast to this point in his career. It is expected that if this Special Assignment goes well, he will soon be promoted to Lieutenant and given charge of a larger unit. Sgt Trimmack is all for getting to know his people and having them work to their strengths. Sgt Trimmack is very dark complected, almost ebony in color. He is chiseled and very fit... the perfect soldier.

Sgt Durvan Helmbane - Dwarf/Ranger 4’8” 205lbs Sgt Helmbane is a lifelong soldier and long time Mailed Fist soldier but a newly promoted Sgt. He is gruff and very distrusting. He hates that Sgt Trimmack was promoted before him because it means he has to answer to him. Sgt Helmbane is a fantastic warrior, but causes trouble for Sgt Trimmack, often second guessing and questioning him in front of the troops. He respects Trimmack as a soldier, and does not question his ability, but thinks he would be the better leader of the newly formed group.]

Qualtmie Redfist Northernvoice - Halfling/Expert 3’2” 36lbs Qualtmie, who almost always goes by Q, is the Quartermaster for the Duty Shop in the Citadel. She is relatively new, having only been in the Citadel for 2 years. She is very worrisome and anxious most of the time, as her job is very demanding, and she has very little self-confidence. The Double Fist helped her rid the supply room of rather large rats while she was on probation, something she wants no one else to know about. She plans to hire the Double Fist to find out who is trying to get her fired in the third module.

Selifan - Necromancer, lost a powerful spellbook to a group of Pantheon’s. Anonymously hired the Fist to recover it. What the players don’t know… is the Pantheonians stole the book from Selifan the Necromancer, a powerful wizard who lives in the north in the Cursed Swamp. The Fist had been unknowingly hired by the necromancer to get this book back.

Panthenonians - Of the team that was still alive at the end of Module 2 is below. Highly suggest to NOT use these NPCs again… there is much Player hurt feelings involved. About the only way I see use of them is perhaps a gravestone in a future module that lists a name and how they hate the Mailed Fist.  :-): Rufford ranger ; scout type didn’t talk much Yelsid Neutral Cleric of Panthenon. Was as much a voice of reason the team had. Arjiksen pally; didn’t talk at all. Selyana sorcerer. Charm Personed 3 of the PCs, which is one reason the PCs lost the fight. Hot-headed, she let Yelsid do most of the talking

Map of Current Province: Fargunia and Zarthmoor The Citadel, which is the base of operation for the Mailed Fist is on the coast between Rhaedell and Ham City on a massive cliff overlooking the scene.
