DMs Only Geography: Dragon Sentinels of New Elenna
The North Dragon Sentinel is a pillar set on the coast at Windhorn Hamlet. Rumors say there may be a South Dragon Sentinel at an unknown location. They were created by the Teucri to keep the dragonkind of Dragon Bay from coming ashore.
There is a Sentinel Festival in Windhorn Hamlet. It is also called The Festival of Renewal. During the festival, several hundred “city folk” typically come down from the plateaus to see the renewing of the North Dragon Sentinel. On that day, the Sentinels cease to function, and the Gods of the Wold personally guard New Elenna to prevent dragon incursion.
In some stories, the Pillar of the North Sentinel is a statue with a "Head." Some say that the Head was once stolen, allowing dragons to enter Windhorn Hamlet and massacre the people. Others say that the dragons burrowed under the Pillar. Others say the massacre was on a Festival Day, and the gods were not watching, so that dragons entered the town.
There is also a tale that some heroes who have died defending Windhorn Hamlet have been immortalized as life sized white marble statues standing in the surf and aiding the main Sentinel in its task.
