Item: Legacy Items

A Legacy Item is a magic item that stays with a PC whether they are in a Tap Game, a Challenge Game, or a Career Game. A Legacy Item is a unique Fate Item that has a gold piece value but cannot be lost, sold, destroyed, or abandoned. (It can be captured or removed for short periods.)

Legacy Items are rewards given to those who make an ongoing contribution to the Wold. A Woldian DM can choose to have two player characters or to have a player character and a Legacy Item. Assistant DMs are granted a Legacy Item but cannot have a second PC in any case.

NOTE: You do not have to follow the rules below to make a Legacy Item. For some people, the process is too convoluted. Feel free to use ANY stock magic item as your Legacy Item. It is a thank-you to our hard-working volunteers, and can be as simple and easy as you like!

For those who do not wish to take the time to create a custom legacy item, we have a few stock legacy items that anyone can take freely. (More items will be added to this list in time.)

A Legacy Item gains powers based on the PC's current level. The player creates the Legacy item with help from the Black Genie Center Board and the Development ACDM. The Development ACDM must approves all Legacy Items and their variations, which must be balanced and fit the rules for magic items in the DMG, but which do not have to be Woldian. If a Legacy Item IS especially Woldian, it may gain a minor power as a bonus as well.

Legacy Items are special for the following reasons:

  • 1) They can be nonstandard items not found in the DMG. If so, they are approved by the Development ACDM and they do not need to be Woldian, although they must be balanced and follow the DMG rules for creating new magic items.

Who can have a Legacy Item?

  • (1) Any Woldian DM with only one character
  • (2) any Woldian Assistant DM. As a rule, DMs and Assistant DMs lose their Legacy Item if they give up their Assistant DM positions for more than three months.

Sample Legacy Items

Ice Blade

A witch honors Celsiun, the Power of Ice Vein. His bound spirit familiar is a snow owl. His Legacy item is an ice dagger.

Note: The Development ACDM deems that this is particularly Woldian, and rules that as a bonus power, the witch can use the dagger to draw blood while incurring none of the usual penalties. After levels 7+ it also acts as a cold iron weapon at no extra cost. At levels 14+ it also acts as adamantine at no extra cost.

Battle Torc of Barratore Steelwind of the Starlight Clan

Barratore sought out and was blessed by a Heart of Imod in the Wemic city of Chessford in a ceremony to cleanse himself and prepare his heart, mind and body for his tasks ahead. As the sacred wine was poured over the young minotaur some of it was infused into his clan battle torc worn about the neck of all minotaurs from clan Starlight. Blessed by Imod and partially infused with his own spirit in the cleansing, the torc now draws upon the strength and character of Barratore and bestows it back upon him, divinely enhancing his natural charateristics.

The torc is a twist of copper, gold and silver, interwoven into one piece with a gap so that it may be put on or taken off. Representing the three taur races and how they must unify and discover thier missing selves to truly be one. The torc is worn around the neck, uses the Neck slot
