TERESALIA

(Goddess of Poetry and Song)

Priests’ Version

Realms of Responsibility

This goddess records remembers, and keeps alive and current every piece of Elennian history that has ever occurred in the form of songs and poetry. She is the patron of the arts.

Appearance

Teresalia is tall and thinnish with protruding facial bones, but has long beautiful legs. She keeps an eye on her “favorite” mortals by disguising herself as a songbird. She also has been known to assume the form of a bard while traveling The Wold.

Holy Symbol

Guru’s Requirements

Granted Powers(All)

+3 to saving throws vs. Mind control.

Charm/fascination as per p.23 of CPH. It takes one round of music or recitation before there can be any effects.

The Guru can turn undead as a cleric by music or poetry and again it takes one round of performance to turn and continual playing to maintain it. Two rounds after the Guru ceases to perform, the undead cease to be controlled.

The Guru can heal as per the Cure Light Wounds 1st-level Priest spell 3 times per day by music or poetry. All rolled 1’s and 2’s are counted as 3’s. The song or poem must be at least one round long to take effect and must be completed. As the Guru becomes able to cast the higher level “Cure” spells, he can “perform” 2 Cure Serious Wounds, 1 Cure Critical Wounds, 1 Cure Disease, or 1 Cure Blindness or Deafness instead of the Cure Light Wounds option. These are in addition to the normal memorized spells.

Non-weapon Proficiencies

Required-Writing/reading, Musical Instrument.

Recommended-Artistic Ability (composition), Religion, Healing.

Duties of the Guru

Guidance.

Marriage.

Education: Guru’s must encourage and support members of their flock (or of the general population) who show signs of talent with music or poetry.

Vigilance: Literature, song, and poetry often offend those who do not understand them or those who disagree with the attitudes expressed in those works of art, and so Gurus must be vigilant against the very human forces of censorship and repression.

Participation: in annual events where artists’ works are displayed.

Punishment of those who defile or destroy great works of art.

Maintenance: of the oral history of New Elenna etc. Gurus should never miss an opportunity to teach the oral history to a new generation.

Strictures

Guru’s gain only a 6-sided hit die at first level, not 8-sided. The above extra abilities in healing more than make up for this disadvantage. Guru’s gain 8-sided hit dice for all levels after 1st level.

Never miss an opportunity to perform using the Guru’s talent(s)

Give 10% to the church.
